AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing medical-grade Pt alloys lack sufficient mechanical properties, X-ray visibility, and biocompatibility, making them unsuitable for precise medical device applications, particularly in environments requiring high stress resistance and imaging visibility.
Method used
A Pt alloy composition with a high Pt content and added elements Ti, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, or Ta, utilizing precipitation strengthening to enhance mechanical properties while maintaining X-ray visibility and biocompatibility.
Benefits of technology
The Pt alloy exhibits improved tensile strength, elastic limit, and processability, ensuring stable performance in medical devices like embolization coils and guide wires, with enhanced X-ray visibility and reduced risk of damage or fracture.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a medical Pt alloy comprising a Pt alloy containing a metal M. In the Pt alloy according to the present invention, the metal M contains at least one of 6-11 at% of Ti, 3.5-9 at% of Zr, 5-11 at% of Nb, 6-16 at% of Mo, 4-9 at% of Hf, and 5-10 at% of Ta. The Pt alloy comprises the metal M with a total content of 3.5-18 at%, with the balance being Pt and inevitable impurities. The medical Pt alloy of the present invention has biocompatibility and X-ray visibility and also has good mechanical properties and workability. The medical Pt alloy of the present invention is formed into a medical member in the form of a Pt alloy wire rod or another form and then applied to medical devices such as embolization coils, guide wires, stents, and catheters.
