Abstract

The invention relates to a method for joining components by friction stir welding, in particular planar components such as sheets or plates. To achieve a particularly good mechanical and electrical connection, the invention provides that a first component (1) with a recess (5), in particular a bore, bounded by a cylindrical surface (4), and a second component (2) which has a projection (6) corresponding at least partially with the recess (5), are provided, wherein the projection (6) is positioned at least partially in the recess (5), after which the components are joined in the region of the cylindrical surface (4) using a friction stir welding tool (7) which has a pin and a shoulder (9).The invention further relates to a device for carrying out a friction stir welding process, wherein two components are joined together by means of a friction stir welding tool (7) which has a pin and a shoulder (9). Furthermore, the invention relates to a composite component (20) comprising a first component (1) and a second component (2), which are joined by friction stir welding.
