Description

1 / 18 “RESTRICTION DEVICE FOR A HORIZONTAL SHAFT CRUSHER, MINERAL MATERIAL CRUSHING APPARATUS, METHOD FOR Restricting service access to a horizontal shaft crusher. Technical field

[001] The present invention generally relates to restricting service access to a horizontal shaft impactor, HSI, crushing chamber. The invention relates particularly, though not exclusively, to the safety restriction of at least one of the access openings and to the HSI rotor. Previous technique

[002] This section illustrates useful basic information without admitting that any technique described herein is representative of prior art.

[003] HSI crushers operate using a horizontal shaft that is equipped with radially extending thumping elements. The thumping elements break the stones by striking them with a significant non-yielding mass and throwing the stones against resistant surfaces. The HSI crusher has a housing within which the crushing takes place.

[004] For service access, some HSI crushers have a service opening closed by a door, cover or hatch, herein generally referred to as a hatch. The hatch is hinged to the housing. The hatch allows checking the condition of the raking elements when the crusher is stopped. Some HSI raking elements are also configured to be opened vertically by lifting a top part of the housing. Opening the entire top part allows replacement of the entire horizontal shaft with its raking elements and / or worn parts provided in Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, p. 8 / 36 2 / 18 opposite surfaces.

[005] As a safety feature, the horizontal shaft is locked by a pin in one of four different positions to prevent the shaft from rotating during operation. For example, the horizontal shaft may suddenly start rotating during the removal of some of the beater elements and residual mineral material that was on top of one side of the horizontal shaft. Such sudden rotation of the horizontal shaft can be dangerous. It is desirable to further improve the safety of HSI crusher maintenance and / or facilitate service access to the HSI crusher and provide a compact arrangement, especially for mobile crushing plants where space for maintenance operations is limited. Summary

[006] The appended claims define the scope of protection. Any examples and technical descriptions of apparatus, products and / or methods in the description and / or drawings not covered by the claims are presented not as embodiments of the invention, but as prior art or useful examples for understanding the invention.

[007] According to a first exemplary aspect of the invention, a restraint apparatus is provided for a horizontal shaft crusher comprising a crushing chamber and a service hatch for opening and closing a service entrance to the crushing chamber, the restraint apparatus comprising: - a first movable restriction between a locked state and an access state in which the first restriction restricts and allows, respectively, the opening of the service hatch for service access; and Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, p. 9 / 36 3 / 18 - a second movable constraint between an operating state and a control state, the second constraint comprising an engagement member; When the second constraint is in the control state, the engagement member is in a use position to restrict rotation of the horizontal shaft; When the second restriction is in the operating state, the engagement member is in an idle position so as not to restrict the rotation of the horizontal shaft; where the first and second constraints are collectively configured to: - Avoid moving the first restriction from the blocked state to the accessed state if the second restriction is in the working state; - Avoid moving the second constraint from the control state to the operating state if the first constraint is in the access state; - allow moving the first restriction from the access state to the blocking state; and - Allow moving the second constraint from the operational state to the control state.

[008] In the blocked state, the first restriction may keep the hatch closed to block access to the crushing chamber through a hatch opening covered by the service hatch. In the access state, the first restriction may allow the hatch to open in order to allow access to the crushing chamber through the hatch opening.

[009] In the operational state, the second restriction may allow operation of the horizontal axis, although the axis Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, p. 10 / 36 4 / 18 horizontal does not need to be constantly operating when the second constraint is in the operating state. In the control state, the second constraint can control the movement of the horizontal shaft by braking the shaft, being ready to brake the shaft, or having a service drive coupled to the shaft. The service drive may employ a drive motor used to drive the horizontal shaft, but powered by a service supply. The service supply may use a different hydraulic pump or the same hydraulic pump as the pump used to drive the horizontal shaft in operation for crushing mineral material, but with a lower power drive, such as a battery-operated motor.

[0010] The first constraint can be movable along a first free path. The first free path can refer to a path along which the first constraint moves when switching between the access state and the block state.

[0011] The second constraint may be movable along a second free path. The second free path may refer to a path along which the second constraint moves when switching between the control state and the operating state.

[0012] The first constraint can be configured to block the second free path, unless the first constraint is in the blocking state. The first constraint can comprise a first blocking member configured to block the second free path, unless the first constraint is in the blocking state. The first blocking member can comprise a first body. The Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 11 / 36 5 / 18 The first body can be molded to comprise a backing edge configured to abut a second body of the second constraint. The first body can be formed from a plate, optionally a steel sheet. The steel sheet can have a thickness of 16 mm ± 10 mm.

[0013] The second constraint can be configured to block the first free path, unless the second constraint is in the control state. The second constraint can comprise a second blocking member configured to block the first free path, unless the second constraint is in the control state. The second blocking member can comprise the second body. The second body can be shaped to comprise a backing edge configured to abut the first body of the first constraint. The second body can be formed from a plate, optionally a steel sheet. The second body can be a profile. The steel sheet can have a thickness of 16 mm ± 10 mm.

[0014] The first constraint can be configured to form a floor surface on which an operator can step to use the service hatch when the first constraint is in the access state.

[0015] The first constraint can be articulated to move along the first free path. The first constraint may have a sliding attachment that allows the first constraint to slide along the first free path.

[0016] The second constraint can be articulated to move along the second free path. The second constraint may have a sliding fastener that allows the second constraint to slide along the second free path. Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 12 / 36 6 / 18

The service hatch may be hinged so that, when open, an edge of the service hatch prevents the second restriction from moving to the operational state. The second restriction may be hinged perpendicular to the geometric axis of articulation of the first restriction. Perpendicular may refer to an angle between 80 and 100 degrees. The second restriction may have a geometric axis of articulation such that, near the service hatch, the service hatch rotates to the open configuration by more than 1 mm; 5 mm; 1 cm; 2 cm; or 5 cm, unless the second restriction is in the control state.

[0018] The coupling member may comprise a brake configured to inhibit the horizontal shaft from starting to rotate due to an unbalanced load. The brake may be a disc brake. The brake may be configured to brake or not brake the horizontal shaft while the second restraint is in the control state.

[0039] In the following description, similar reference signs denote similar elements or steps.

[0040] Figure 1 shows a schematic drawing of a crushing plant 100 of an embodiment. The crushing plant comprises a horizontal shaft crusher 110 having a housing 120 surrounding a crushing chamber 130, a horizontal shaft 140 and raking elements 142 loaded by the horizontal shaft 140. The horizontal shaft crusher 110 further comprises a service hatch 150, the service hatch 150 for opening and closing a service entrance to the Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, p. 17 / 36 11 / 18 crushing chamber 130. The horizontal shaft crusher 110 further comprises a restraint device 160. The restraint device 160 is configured to control that the service hatch 150 is not opened while the horizontal shaft 140 can be operated to crush or rotate on its own when unbalanced. The crushing plant further comprises tracks 170 or wheels to provide maneuverability in quarries, on-site or on the road.

[0041] In one embodiment, the restraint device 160 is fixed to the crushing plant via a body of the crushing plant. One or more parts of the restraint device may be fixed to the housing 120.

[0042] Figure 2 shows a schematic drawing of a restraint device of an embodiment, the horizontal axis 140 and the service hatch 150. The restraint device 160 comprises a first movable restraint 210 (e.g., using first joints 212) between a locked state and an access state in which the first restraint 210 restricts and permits, respectively, the opening of the service hatch 150; and a second movable restraint 220 (e.g., using second joints 222) between an operational state and a control state. The second restraint comprises an engagement member 224, 530.

[0043] In the control state, the coupling member 224, 530 is in a use position to restrict the rotation of the horizontal shaft 140. In the operating state, the coupling member 224, 530 is in an idle position so as not to restrict the rotation of the horizontal shaft 140.

[0044] The first and second constraints 210, 220 are collectively configured to: Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 18 / 36 12 / 18 - avoid moving the first restriction 210 from the blocked state to the access state if the second restriction 220 is in the working state; - avoid moving the second constraint 220 from the control state to the operating state if the first constraint 210 is in the access state; - allow moving the first restriction 210 from the access state to the blocking state; and - Allow moving the second constraint 220 from the operating state to the control state.

[0045] In Figure 2, the coupling member 224 comprises a brake 224 configured to inhibit the horizontal shaft 140 from starting to rotate due to an unbalanced load. The brake 224 is, for example, a disc brake.

[0046] Figure 2 also shows a plurality of crushing elements 142, such as beater elements in the crushing chamber, to cause crushing forces on objects of mineral material being crushed. The crushing elements 142 in Figure 2 are loaded by the horizontal axis 140.

[0047] The first constraint 210 is mobile along a first free path 230. The first free path 230 refers to a path along which the first constraint 210 moves when switching between the access state and the blocking state.

[0048] The second constraint 220 is movable along a second free path 240. The second free path 240 refers to a path along which the second constraint 220 moves when switching between the operating state and the control state. Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 19 / 36 13 / 18

[0049] The first constraint 210 in Figure 2 is articulated to move along the first free path 230. In an alternative embodiment, the first constraint 210 has a sliding fastening that allows the first constraint 210 to slide along a first free path.

[0050] The second constraint 220 in Figure 2 is articulated to move along a second free path 240. In an alternative embodiment, the second constraint 220 has a sliding fastener that allows the second constraint 220 to slide along the second free path.

[0051] In one embodiment, the first restriction 210 is integrated into the service hatch 150. The service hatch 150 may be articulated horizontally. For example, the service hatch 150 may be articulated so that, when opened, an edge of the service hatch 150 prevents the second restriction 220 from moving to the operational state. The second restriction 220 may be articulated perpendicular to the geometric axis of articulation of the first restriction 210. The second restriction 220 may have a geometric axis of articulation close to the service hatch 150 so that the service hatch 150 turns towards the open configuration by more than 1 mm; 5 mm; 1 cm; 2 cm; or 5 cm, unless the second restriction 220 is in the control state.

[0052] In one embodiment, the first restriction 210 comprises one or more additional parts. In one embodiment, the first restriction 210 comprises a hydraulic or electrical circuit. The circuit may comprise a hatch latch actuator 154 for operating a latch 152. Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 20 / 36 14 / 18

[0053] In one embodiment, the second restriction 220 comprises one or more additional parts. In one embodiment, the second restriction 220 comprises a hydraulic or electrical circuit. The circuit may comprise a brake actuator.

[0054] In one embodiment, the second restriction is configured to release the hatch latch 152 only when the brake 224 has secured the shaft 140. The hatch latch 152 can be configured to force the stabilization of the shaft 140 before the hatch 150 is opened. The brake 224 can be released or disabled in a controlled manner while the hatch is open, so that the brake 224 is ready to be used again to secure the shaft 140.

[0055] Figure 3 shows a three-dimensional drawing of a restraint device of an embodiment when the first restraint 210 is in the blocking state and the second restraint 220 is in the operating state, and Figure 4 shows a three-dimensional drawing of the restraint device of Figure 3 when the second restraint 220 is in the control state.

[0056] In Figure 3, the first constraint 210 comprises a first blocking member configured to block the second free path, unless the first constraint 210 is in the access state. Here, the first blocking member has a first body that is formed to comprise a backing edge configured to abut with a second body of the second constraint 220. The first body is formed by a plate, optionally, of a steel sheet. The plate has a thickness, for example, of at least 16 mm ± 10 mm. Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 21 / 36 15 / 18

[0057] The second constraint 220 of Figure 3 comprises a second locking member configured to block the first free path unless the second constraint 220 is in the control state. The second locking member may comprise the second body. The second body may be shaped to comprise a backing edge configured to abut the first body of the first constraint 210. The second body may be formed from a plate, optionally a steel sheet. The second body may be a profile. The steel sheet may have a thickness of at least 16 mm ± 10 mm.

[0058] The first constraint 210 in Figure 3 is configured to form a floor surface on which an operator can step to use the service hatch 150 when the first constraint 210 is in the access state (when the first constraint 210 shown in Figure 4 is rotated downwards) outside the path of the service hatch 150.

[0059] Figure 5 shows a front view of an alternative restraint device 500 in which the second restraint 220 comprises a service actuator instead of or in addition to the brake to allow controlled service rotation of the horizontal shaft 140 at a service speed. The service speed may be such that the crushing elements loaded by the horizontal shaft move at most 1 cm / s; 2 cm / s; 5 cm / s; or 10 cm / s.

[0060] As shown in Figure 5, an actuator 510 can be provided to move the second constraint. The actuator in Figure 5 is a hydraulic cylinder. In other embodiments, the actuator is, or comprises, a solenoid, linear motor, pneumatic cylinder, or rotary actuator. In one embodiment Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 22 / 36 16 / 18 also or only the first restriction 210 is moved by a second actuator (not shown). The second actuator may be similar to or different from the actuator of the second restriction 220.

[0061] In Figure 5, the service actuator comprises a motor 520, such as a hydraulic motor or an electric motor. In Figure 5, the service actuator has a gear arrangement configured to engage the horizontal shaft. Figure 5 shows a first sprocket 530 driven by the motor 520 (e.g., via a gear) and a second sprocket 540 attached to the horizontal shaft 140.

[0062] The service actuator may comprise a braking mechanism. The braking mechanism may comprise one or more check valves if the 520 motor is a hydraulic motor. The braking mechanism may comprise a gear with a transmission ratio greater than 7:1, 10:0 or 50:1 in revolutions of a motor rotor relative to revolutions of a coupling element configured to operate as or drive the coupling member.

[0063] Figure 6 shows a flowchart of a service access restriction method 600 for the horizontal shaft crusher 110 comprising the crushing chamber 130 and the service hatch 150 for opening and closing a service entrance 150 to the crushing chamber 130; the method comprising: - 610. Support the first restriction 210 in a mobile fashion between the locking state and the access state, in which the first restriction 210 restricts and allows, respectively, the opening of the service hatch 150 for service access; - 620. Support the second restriction 220 in a mobile fashion between the control state and the operating state; Petition 870260000790, dated 06 / 01 / 2026, page 23 / 36 17 / 18 - 630. Movably support the coupling member 224, 530 by the second restriction 220 so that when the second restriction 220 is in the control state, the coupling member 224, 530 is in a use position to restrict the rotation of the horizontal shaft 140; and when the second restriction 220 is in the operating state, the coupling member 224, 530 is in an idle position so as not to restrict the rotation of the horizontal shaft 140; - 640. Use the first and second constraints 210 and 220 collectively to avoid moving the first constraint 210 from the blocked state to the accessed state if the second constraint 220 is in the working state; - 650. Use the first and second constraints 210,220 collectively to avoid moving the second constraint 220 from the control state to the operation state if the first constraint 210 is in the access state; - 660. Use the first and second constraints 210,220 collectively to allow moving the first constraint 210 from the access state to the blocking state; and - 670. Use the first and second constraints 210,220 collectively to allow moving the second constraint 220 from the operating state to the control state.
