Description

[0001] CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0002] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2018-0156405, filed on Dec. 6, 2018, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes. Technical Field

[0003] The present invention relates to a battery cooling system for a vehicle, and more particularly, to a heat pump system for a vehicle for efficiently heating or cooling a battery module by using a chiller in which a coolant and cooling water perform heat exchange in an electric vehicle. Background Art

[0004] Generally, an air conditioner for a vehicle includes an air conditioning system for circulating a refrigerant to heat or cool the interior of the vehicle.

[0005] This air conditioning system maintains a comfortable in-vehicle environment by maintaining the temperature inside the vehicle at an appropriate temperature regardless of changes in the temperature outside the vehicle. It is configured to heat or cool the vehicle interior through heat exchange through the evaporator, while driving the refrigerant discharged from the compressor through the condenser, receiver-dryer, expansion valve and evaporator and circulate to the compressor again.

[0006] That is to say, in the air-conditioning system, the high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant compressed by the compressor is condensed through the condenser, and then evaporated in the evaporator through the receiver-drier and the expansion valve, thereby reducing the temperature and humidity in the car in the summer cooling mode.

[0007] Meanwhile, in recent years, as people's interest in energy efficiency and environmental pollution issues has increased, there has been a demand for the development of environmentally friendly vehicles that can substantially replace internal combustion engine vehicles. Environmentally friendly vehicles are generally fuel cell vehicles or electric vehicles driven by electricity, or hybrid vehicles driven by an engine and a battery.

[0008] Among environmentally friendly vehicles, electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles do not use a separate heater, which is different from the air conditioner of a general vehicle, and the air conditioner applied to the environmentally friendly vehicle generally refers to a heat pump system.

[0009] On the other hand, in the case of electric vehicles, the chemical reaction energy of oxygen and hydrogen is converted into electrical energy to generate driving force. In the current process, since heat energy is generated by the chemical reaction in the fuel cell, it is essential to effectively remove the generated heat to ensure the performance of the fuel cell.

[0010] In addition, even in hybrid vehicles, the motor is driven by using electricity supplied by a fuel cell or a battery, and the engine is operated using ordinary fuel to generate driving force. Therefore, the performance of the motor can only be guaranteed by effectively removing the heat generated by the fuel cell or battery and the motor.

[0011] Therefore, in a hybrid vehicle or electric vehicle according to the related art, a battery cooling system needs to be separately formed to have a separate sealed circuit as well as a cooler and a heat pump system to prevent heat from being generated in motors and electrical components as well as batteries (including fuel cells).

[0012] Accordingly, the size and weight of the cooling module provided at the front of the vehicle may increase, and the layout of connection pipes for supplying refrigerant and cooling water to the heat pump system, the chiller, and the battery cooling system may be complicated in the engine compartment.

[0013] In addition, the battery cooling system that heats or cools the battery according to the state of the vehicle so that the battery exhibits optimal performance is provided separately, so multiple valves are used to connect to the respective connecting pipes, and the noise and vibration generated by the frequent opening / closing operations of the valves are transmitted to the interior of the vehicle, reducing riding comfort.

[0014] The information disclosed in the background technology section of the present invention is only intended to deepen the understanding of the general background technology of the present invention, and should not be regarded as acknowledging or suggesting in any form that the information constitutes the prior art already known to those skilled in the art. [0055] Figure 1 is a block diagram of a battery cooling system for a vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0056] The battery cooling system for a vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention effectively manages the battery module 30 mounted on the electric vehicle to increase the total driving distance of the vehicle.

[0057] Here, in the battery cooling system, the first cooling device 10 for cooling the electrical components 14 and the motor 15, the second cooling device 20 for cooling the battery module 30, and the air conditioning device for cooling or heating the interior may cooperate with each other in the electric vehicle.

[0058] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a controller is connected to the air conditioning device to control the operation of the air conditioning device.

[0059] That is to say, referring to Figure 1 The battery cooling system includes a first cooling device 10 , a second cooling device 20 , a battery module 30 and a chiller 60 .

[0060] First, the first cooling device 10 includes a first radiator 12 and a first water pump 16 connected through a first coolant line 11. The first cooling device 10 circulates coolant to the first coolant line 11 by operating the first water pump 16 to cool the electric components 14 and the motor 15.

[0061] The first radiator 12 is provided at the front of the vehicle, and the cooling fan 13 is provided at the rear of the first radiator to cool the coolant through the operation of the cooling fan 13 and heat exchange with the outside air.

[0062] Here, the electrical components 14 may include a power control device, an inverter, or an on-board charger (OBC). The power control device and the inverter generate heat during driving, and the OBC generates heat when the battery module 30 is charged.

[0063] Meanwhile, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the electric component 14 and the motor 15 may be disposed in series on the first coolant line 11 .

[0064] In addition, a first reservoir tank 17 is installed on the first coolant line 11 between the first radiator 12 and the first water pump 16. The coolant cooled by the first radiator 12 may be stored in the first reservoir tank 17.

[0065] The first cooling device 10 thus configured circulates the coolant cooled by the first radiator along the first coolant line 11 by operating the first water pump 16 to cool the electric components 14 and the motor 15 without overheating.

[0066] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the second cooling device 20 includes a second radiator 22 and a second water pump 26 connected through a second coolant line 21 , and circulates the coolant through the second coolant line 21 .

[0067] The second cooling device 20 may selectively provide the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 to the battery module 30 .

[0068] The second radiator 22 is disposed in front of the first radiator 12 and cools the coolant through the operation of the cooling fan 13 and heat exchange with the outside air.

[0069] In addition, the second reservoir tank 27 is installed on the second coolant line 21 between the second radiator 22 and the second water pump 26. The coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 may be stored in the second reservoir tank 27.

[0070] The second cooling device 20 configured in this manner can circulate the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 along the second coolant line 21 by operating the second water pump 26 .

[0071] The battery module 30 is mounted on a battery coolant line 31 , and the battery coolant line 31 is selectively connectable to the second coolant line 21 through a valve 40 .

[0072] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a controller is connected to the valve 40 to control the operation of the valve 40 .

[0073] Here, the valve 40 may selectively connect the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 between the second radiator 22 and the battery module 30 .

[0074] The battery module 30 , which supplies electric power to the electric components 14 and the motor 15 , is formed as a water-cooling type, which is cooled by a coolant flowing along a battery coolant line 31 .

[0075] That is, the battery module 30 is selectively connected to the second cooling device 20 through the battery coolant line 31 according to the operation of the valve 40. In the battery module 30, the coolant may be circulated by the operation of the third water pump 33 installed on the battery coolant line 31.

[0076] The third water pump 33 is installed on the battery coolant line 31 between the chiller 60 and the battery module 30. The third water pump 33 operates to circulate the coolant through the battery coolant line 31.

[0077] Here, the first water pump 16 , the second water pump 26 , and the third water pump 33 may be electric water pumps.

[0078] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a controller is connected to the first water pump 16 , the second water pump 26 , and the third water pump 33 to control operations of the first water pump 16 , the second water pump 26 , and the third water pump 33 .

[0079] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a chiller 60 is installed on the battery coolant line 31 , the coolant passes inside to the chiller 60 , and the chiller 60 is connected to the refrigerant line 51 of the air conditioning device through a refrigerant connection line 62 .

[0080] The chiller 60 heat-exchanges the coolant selectively flowing into the chiller 60 with the refrigerant supplied by the air conditioning device to control the temperature of the coolant. Here, the chiller may be a water-cooling type heat exchanger into which the coolant flows.

[0081] Meanwhile, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a heater 35 may be installed on the battery coolant line 31 between the battery module 30 and the chiller 60 .

[0082] When the battery module 30 needs to be heated, the heater 35 is turned on to heat the coolant circulating in the battery coolant line 31 , thereby causing the coolant with a raised temperature to flow into the battery module 30 .

[0083] The heater 35 may be an electric heater that operates based on power supply.

[0084] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a controller is connected to the heater 35 to control the operation of the heater 35 .

[0085] In addition, the first branch line 80 may be installed on the battery coolant line 31 and connect each battery coolant line 31 between the chiller 60 and the battery module 30 through the valve 40 .

[0086] In addition, the second branch line 90 is installed on the second coolant line 21 , and separates the battery coolant line 31 and the second coolant line 21 from each other.

[0087] The second branch line 90 may be selectively connected to the second coolant line 21 , whereby the second cooling device 20 forms an independent closed loop through the second coolant line 21 .

[0088] Meanwhile, a separate valve may be provided at a point where the second branch line 90 intersects the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31, or on the second branch line 90. Such a valve may be a three-way valve or a two-way valve.

[0089] Here, the valve 40 selectively connects the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 , or selectively connects the battery coolant line 31 and the first branch line 80 to control the flow of the coolant.

[0090] That is, when the battery module 30 is cooled using the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 , the valve 40 may connect the second coolant line 21 connected to the second radiator 22 with the battery coolant line 31 and shut off the first branch line 80 .

[0091] In addition, when the battery module 30 is cooled using the coolant that exchanges heat with the refrigerant, the valve 40 may connect the first branch line 80 and disconnect the connection between the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 .

[0092] Accordingly, the low-temperature coolant that has exchanged heat with the refrigerant in the chiller 60 flows into the battery module 30 through the first branch line 80 connected by the valve 40 , thereby effectively cooling the battery module 30 .

[0093] On the other hand, when the battery module 30 is heated, the coolant circulating along the battery coolant line 31 is blocked from flowing into the second radiator 22 by the operation of the valve 40, so that the coolant heated by the operation of the heater 35 flows into the battery module 30, thereby quickly heating the battery module 30.

[0094] Meanwhile, in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, although it is described that the valve is not provided in the second branch line 90 as an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the valve may be used to selectively connect the second branch line 90 when necessary.

[0095] That is, the second branch line 90 can control the flow of coolant circulating through the second coolant line 21, the battery coolant line 31, the first branch line 80 selectively connected according to each mode of the vehicle (heating, cooling or dehumidification), and the operation of the second water pump 26 and the third water pump 33, thereby controlling the connection and disconnection of the second branch line 90.

[0096] Meanwhile, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the air conditioning apparatus includes a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) module 52 , a condenser 54 , a first expansion valve 56 , an evaporator 58 , and a compressor 59 connected through a refrigerant line 51 .

[0097] First, the HVAC module 52 is connected through a refrigerant line 51 , has an opening / closing door 53 therein, and controls the outside air passing through the evaporator 58 to selectively flow into the interior heater 57 according to the heating, cooling, and heating / dehumidification modes of the vehicle.

[0098] That is, in the heating mode of the vehicle, the open / close door 53 is opened to allow the outside air passing through the evaporator 58 to flow into the interior heater 57. On the other hand, in the cooling mode of the vehicle, the open / close door 53 closes the interior heater 57 to allow the outside air cooled when passing through the evaporator 58 to flow directly into the vehicle.

[0099] The condenser 54 is connected to the refrigerant line 51 to pass the refrigerant through the refrigerant line 51 , and is connected to each of the first coolant line 11 and the second coolant line 21 to circulate the coolant in each of the first cooling device 10 and the second cooling device 20 .

[0100] That is, the condenser 54 may be a water-cooling type heat exchanger in which a coolant flows into the condenser 54. The condenser 54 may include a first heat radiating unit 54a, a second heat radiating unit 54b, and a partition 54c.

[0101] First, the first heat radiating unit 54a is connected to the first coolant line 11. Therefore, the first heat radiating unit 54a may allow the refrigerant supplied by the compressor 59 to be heat-exchanged with the coolant supplied by the first cooling device 10 first.

[0102] The second heat radiating unit 54b is connected to the second coolant line 21. Therefore, the second heat radiating unit 54b may heat-exchange the refrigerant passing through the first heat radiating unit 54a with the coolant supplied by the second cooling device 20.

[0103] In addition, the partition 54c can separate the first heat radiating unit 54a and the second heat radiating unit 54b in the condenser 54 to prevent the coolant supplied by each of the first cooling device 10 and the second cooling device 20 from mixing. The partition 54c can allow the refrigerant to pass so that the refrigerant flows from the first heat radiating unit 54a into the second heat radiating unit 54b.

[0104] Therefore, the refrigerant passing through the condenser 54 may firstly exchange heat with the coolant supplied through the first coolant line 11 , and secondly exchange heat with the coolant supplied through the second coolant line 21 .

[0105] That is, the condenser 54 causes the refrigerant supplied by the compressor 59 to firstly exchange heat with the coolant supplied by the first cooling device 10 to condense the refrigerant. Likewise, the condenser 54 causes the refrigerant to secondly exchange heat with the coolant supplied by the second cooling device 20 to condense the refrigerant. By such operation, the condenser 54 can reduce the temperature of the refrigerant and increase the condensation amount.

[0106] Meanwhile, a sub-condenser 55 for additionally condensing the refrigerant passing through the condenser 54 may be installed on the refrigerant line 51 between the condenser 54 and the evaporator 58 .

[0107] The sub-condenser 55 is disposed in front of the second radiator 22, and performs heat exchange between the refrigerant flowing into the sub-condenser 55 and the outside air. That is, the sub-condenser 55 may be an air-cooling type heat exchanger.

[0108] Accordingly, the sub-condenser 55 further condenses the refrigerant condensed by the condenser 54 to increase secondary cooling of the refrigerant, thereby improving the coefficient of performance (COP), ie, the cooling performance coefficient of the power required by the compressor.

[0109] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a first expansion valve 56 is installed on a refrigerant line 51 connecting the sub-condenser 55 and the evaporator 58. The first expansion valve 56 receives and expands the refrigerant passing through the sub-condenser 55. The first expansion valve 56 may be a mechanical expansion valve.

[0110] The compressor 59 is connected between the evaporator 58 and the condenser 54 through the refrigerant line 51. The compressor 59 compresses the gaseous refrigerant.

[0111] Meanwhile, a second expansion valve 64 may be installed on the refrigerant connecting line 62 .

[0112] That is, the second expansion valve 64 is installed on the refrigerant connection line 62 connecting the sub-condenser 55 and the chiller 60 .

[0113] Here, when the battery module 30 is cooled by the refrigerant in the cooling mode of the vehicle, the second expansion valve 64 operates The second expansion valve 64 may expand the refrigerant flowing through the refrigerant connection line 62 and allow the expanded refrigerant to flow into the chiller 60 .

[0114] That is, the second expansion valve 64 expands the condensed refrigerant discharged from the sub-condenser 55 and causes the expanded refrigerant to flow into the chiller 60 in a state where the refrigerant is cooled, further reducing the water temperature of the coolant passing through the chiller 60 .

[0115] Accordingly, the coolant whose temperature is reduced when passing through the chiller 60 flows into the battery module 30 , whereby the battery module can be cooled more effectively.

[0116] The following will refer to Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figure 4 The operation and effects of a battery cooling system for a vehicle configured according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention are described in detail.

[0117] First, refer to Figure 2 An operation when a battery module is cooled using a coolant in a battery cooling system for a vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is described.

[0118] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of an operation state when a battery module is cooled using a coolant in a battery cooling system for a vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0119] Reference Figure 2 In the first cooling device 10, the first water pump 16 is operated to cool the electric components 14 and the motor 15. Accordingly, the coolant cooled by the first radiator 12 circulates in the electric components 14 and the motor 15.

[0120] In the second cooling device 20 , the second water pump 26 is operated to cool the battery module 30 .

[0121] Here, the valve 40 connects the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 so that the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 is supplied to the battery module 30 .

[0122] At the same time, the first branch line 80 is disconnected by the operation of the valve 40. In addition, the second branch line 90 is disconnected. Accordingly, the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 are connected through the disconnected first and second branch lines 80 and 90.

[0123] That is, the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 are connected to each other by selective operation of the valve 40 , and may form a closed loop in which the coolant circulates.

[0124] Therefore, the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 may circulate along the second coolant line 21 and the battery coolant line 31 by the operation of the second water pump 26 and the third water pump 33 .

[0125] That is, the cooled coolant exhausted from the second radiator 22 flows into the battery module 30 through the battery coolant line 31 and cools the battery module 30 .

[0126] The coolant cooling the battery module 30 passes through the heater 35 and the chiller 60 (the operations of which are turned off) along the battery coolant line 31 , and then flows into the second radiator again through the second coolant line 21 .

[0127] That is, since the low-temperature coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 cools only the battery module 30 , the battery module 30 may be effectively cooled.

[0128] At the same time, the air conditioning device does not work because the vehicle's cooling mode is not working.

[0129] When cooling the battery module according to the vehicle's cooling mode, its operation will refer to Figure 3 Give a description.

[0130] Figure 3 is a schematic diagram of an operation state when the electric components and the battery module are cooled according to a cooling mode of the vehicle in the battery cooling system for the vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

[0131] Reference Figure 3 In the first cooling device 10 , the first water pump 16 is operated to cool the electric components 14 , the motor 15 , and the condenser 54 . Accordingly, the coolant cooled by the first radiator 12 circulates in the electric components 14 , the motor 15 , and the condenser 54 .

[0132] That is, in the first cooling device 10 , the coolant cooled by the first radiator 12 may be supplied to the condenser 54 by the operation of the first water pump 16 .

[0133] In the second cooling device 20 , the second water pump 26 is operated to supply the coolant to the condenser 54 .

[0134] At the same time, the first branch line 80 is connected by the operation of the valve 40. In addition, the second branch line 90 is connected.

[0135] Accordingly, the connection of the second coolant line 21 with the battery coolant line 31 is disconnected by the connected first and second branch lines 80 and 90 and the valve 40 .

[0136] That is, in the second cooling device 20 , the switched-on second branch line 90 is connected to the second coolant line 21 to independently form a closed loop in which the coolant circulates.

[0137] Furthermore, the battery coolant line 31 may form a closed loop in which the coolant independently circulates by the connected first branch line 80 .

[0138] Accordingly, the coolant cooled by the second radiator 22 circulates along the second coolant line 21 and the second branch line 90 to cool the condenser 54 by the operation of the second water pump 26 .

[0139] The components of the air conditioning apparatus operate to cool the interior of the vehicle, and thus refrigerant circulates along the refrigerant line 51 .

[0140] Therefore, the condenser 54 condenses the refrigerant by using the coolant flowing along the first coolant line 11 and the second coolant line 21 .

[0141] Meanwhile, the coolant supplied to the condenser 54 through the first coolant line 11 first condenses the refrigerant passing through the first heat radiating unit 54a of the condenser 54. The coolant supplied to the condenser 54 through the second coolant line 21 secondly condenses the refrigerant passing through the second heat radiating unit 54b of the condenser 54.

[0142] Therefore, the condenser 54 can increase the condensation amount of the refrigerant.

[0143] In addition, the coolant passing through the chiller 60 circulates along the battery coolant line 31 and the first branch line 80 by operation of the third water pump 33 to cool the battery module 30 .

[0144] The coolant circulating along the battery coolant line 31 is cooled by heat exchange with the refrigerant supplied to the chiller 60. The coolant cooled by the chiller 60 is supplied to the battery module 30. Therefore, the battery module 30 is cooled by the cooled coolant.

[0145] Here, the second expansion valve 64 expands some of the refrigerant passing through the sub-condenser 55 , and connects the refrigerant connection line 62 to supply the expanded refrigerant to the chiller 60 .

[0146] Therefore, some of the refrigerant discharged from the sub-condenser 55 is expanded by the operation of the second expansion valve 64 to enter a low-temperature state and flows into the chiller 60 connected to the refrigerant connection line 62 .

[0147] Thus, the refrigerant flowing into the chiller 60 exchanges heat with the coolant and flows into the compressor 59 through the refrigerant connecting line 62 .

[0148] That is, the coolant whose temperature is increased when cooling the battery module 30 is cooled by heat exchange with the low-temperature and low-pressure refrigerant in the chiller 60. The cooled coolant is supplied to the battery module 30 again through the battery coolant line 31.

[0149] That is, when the above-mentioned operation is repeatedly performed, the coolant may effectively cool the battery module 30 .

[0150] Meanwhile, the remaining refrigerant discharged from the sub-condenser 55 flows through the refrigerant line 51 to cool the interior of the vehicle, and sequentially passes through the first expansion valve 56 , the evaporator 58 , the compressor 59 , and the condenser 54 .

[0151] Here, the outside air flowing into the HVAC module 52 is cooled by the low-temperature refrigerant flowing into the evaporator 58 while passing through the evaporator 58 .

[0152] In this case, the opening / closing door 53 closes the portion where the cooled outside air passes through the interior heater 57 to prevent the cooled outside air from passing through the interior heater 57. Therefore, the cooled outside air directly flows into the vehicle, cooling the interior of the vehicle.

[0153] Meanwhile, the refrigerant having an increased condensation amount while sequentially passing through the condenser 54 and the sub-condenser 55 is expanded and supplied to the evaporator 58 so that the refrigerant may evaporate at a lower temperature.

[0154] That is, in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first and second heat radiating units 54a and 54b of the condenser 54 condense the refrigerant first and second times and the sub-condenser 55 additionally condenses the refrigerant, so secondary cooling of the refrigerant becomes advantageous.

[0155] Furthermore, since the refrigerant that has been subjected to secondary cooling evaporates at a lower temperature in the evaporator 58 , the temperature of the coolant that is heat-exchanged in the evaporator 58 can be further lowered, thereby improving cooling performance and efficiency.

[0156] That is, when the above-described process is repeatedly performed, the refrigerant is cooled by heat exchange while passing through the chiller 60 , while cooling the interior in a cooling mode of the vehicle.

[0157] The coolant cooled by the chiller 60 flows along the battery coolant line 31 connected to the valve 40 by operation of the valve 40, and flows into the battery module 30. Therefore, the battery module 30 can be effectively cooled by the low temperature coolant supplied to the battery coolant line 31.

[0158] Will refer to Figure 4 The operation when the battery module is heated in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention is described.

[0159] Figure 4 is a schematic diagram of an operation state when a battery module is heated in a battery cooling system for a vehicle according to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention.

[0160] Reference Figure 4 , in the first cooling device 10 and the second cooling device 20, the operations of the first water pump 16 and the second water pump 26 are stopped. Therefore, the coolant stops flowing in the first coolant line 11 and the second coolant line 21. In addition, the operation of the air conditioning device is stopped.

[0161] In this state, the first branch line 80 is connected by the operation of the valve 40. In addition, the connection of the battery coolant line 31 with the second coolant line 21 is disconnected by the connected first branch line 80 and the operation of the valve 40.

[0162] Therefore, the battery coolant lines 31 connected to the battery modules 30 may form a closed loop in which the coolant independently circulates by the connected first branch lines 80 .

[0163] Thus, the coolant circulates in the battery coolant line 31 by the operation of the third water pump 33. In this case, the heater 35 is turned on to heat the coolant circulating in the battery coolant line 31.

[0164] The coolant whose temperature is increased while passing through the heater 35 flows into the battery module 30 through the first branch line 80 and the battery coolant line 31. Therefore, the battery module 30 can be effectively heated by the high-temperature coolant supplied to the battery coolant line 31.

[0165] As described above, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a battery cooling system for a vehicle is adopted, and a battery module is effectively heated or cooled by using a chiller in which a coolant and a refrigerant perform heat exchange in an electric vehicle, thereby promoting simplification of the system.

[0166] Furthermore, according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the battery module 30 is effectively heated or cooled, contributing to the optimal performance of the battery module 30 , and the total driving distance of the vehicle is increased through the effective management of the battery module 30 .

[0167] In addition, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerant is doubly condensed using the coolant supplied to each of the first and second cooling devices 10 and 20 using the condenser 54 to improve condensation performance, and the refrigerant is additionally condensed through the sub-condenser 55 to improve cooling performance and reduce power consumption.

[0168] Furthermore, according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, by simplifying the entire system, the manufacturing cost and weight can be reduced, and the space utilization rate can be improved.

[0169] Will refer to Figure 5 A battery cooling system for a vehicle according to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention is described.

[0170] Figure 5 is a block diagram of a battery cooling system for a vehicle according to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention.

[0171] Reference Figure 5 The battery cooling system includes a first cooling device 110 , a second cooling device 120 , a battery module 130 and a chiller 160 .

[0172] First, the first cooling device 110 includes a first radiator 112 and a first water pump 116 connected through a first coolant line 111. The first cooling device 110 circulates coolant to the first coolant line 111 by operating the first water pump 116 to cool the electric components and the motor.

[0173] The first radiator 112 is disposed at the front of the vehicle, and the cooling fan 113 is disposed at the rear of the first radiator to cool the coolant through operation of the cooling fan 113 and heat exchange with external air.

[0174] Here, the driving motor may include a first driving motor 115a and a second driving motor 115b corresponding to the front wheel and the rear wheel, respectively.

[0175] Also, the electrical component may include two electrical components, a first electrical component 114a and a second electrical component 114b, corresponding to two driving motors (ie, a first driving motor 115a and a second driving motor 115b), respectively.

[0176] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first electrical component 114a and the first motor 115a can be arranged in parallel with the second electrical component 114b and the second motor 115b arranged in the first coolant line 111 through a branch line 118 arranged in the first coolant line 111 (bypassing the second electrical component 114b and the second motor 115b).

[0177] That is, each of one end and the other end of the branch line 118 may be connected to the first coolant line 111 between the first radiator 112 and the second electric component 114 b .

[0178] Here, the first water pump 116 may be disposed on the first coolant line 111 close to the first radiator 112 based on the branch line 118 , and the sub-water pump 119 may be installed on the first coolant line 111 based on the branch line 118 connected to the second electric component 114 b and the motor 115 b .

[0179] The sub-water pump 119 may be used to prevent a phenomenon in which a coolant flow rate is insufficient due to an increase in flow resistance of the coolant circulating in the first coolant line 111 and the branch line 118 .

[0180] Meanwhile, the first electrical component 114a and the second electrical component 114b may include a power control device, an inverter, or an on-board charger (OBC). The power control device and the inverter generate heat during driving, and the OBC generates heat when the battery module 130 is charged.

[0181] In addition, a first reservoir tank 117 is installed on the first coolant line 111 between the first radiator 112 and the first water pump 116. The coolant cooled by the first radiator 112 may be stored in the first reservoir tank 117.

[0182] The first cooling device 110 configured in this way circulates the coolant cooled by the first radiator along the first coolant line 111 and the branch line 118 by operating the first water pump 116 and the auxiliary water pump 119 to cool the first and second electrical components 114a and 114b and the first and second motors 115a and 115b without overheating.

[0183] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the second cooling device 120 includes a second radiator 122 and a second water pump 126 connected through a second coolant line 121 , and circulates the coolant to the second coolant line 121 .

[0184] The second cooling device 120 may supply the coolant cooled by the second radiator 122 to the battery module 130 .

[0185] The second radiator 122 is disposed in front of the first radiator 112 and cools the coolant through the operation of the cooling fan 113 and heat exchange with external air.

[0186] In addition, the second reservoir tank 127 is installed on the second coolant line 121 between the second radiator 122 and the second water pump 126. The coolant cooled by the second radiator 122 may be stored in the second reservoir tank 127.

[0187] The second cooling device 120 configured in this manner may circulate the coolant cooled by the second radiator 122 along the second coolant line 121 by operating the second water pump 126 .

[0188] The battery module 130 is mounted on a battery coolant line 131 , and the battery coolant line 131 is selectively connectable to the second coolant line 121 through a valve 140 .

[0189] Here, the valve 140 may selectively connect the second coolant line 121 and the battery coolant line 131 between the second radiator 122 and the battery module 130 .

[0190] The battery module 130 , which supplies power to the first and second electric components 114 a and 114 b and the first and second motors 115 a and 115 b , is formed as a water-cooling type, which is cooled by a coolant flowing along a battery coolant line 131 .

[0191] That is, the battery module 130 can be selectively connected to the second cooling device 120 through the battery coolant line 131 according to the operation of the valve 140. In the battery module 130, the coolant may be circulated by the operation of the third water pump 133 installed on the battery coolant line 131.

[0192] The third water pump 133 is installed on the battery coolant line 131 between the chiller 160 and the battery module 130. The third water pump 133 operates to circulate the coolant through the battery coolant line 131.

[0193] Here, the first water pump 116 , the second water pump 126 , and the third water pump 133 may be electric water pumps.

[0194] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a chiller 160 is installed on the battery coolant line 131 , the coolant passes inside to the chiller 160 , and the chiller 160 is connected to the refrigerant line 151 of the air conditioning device 150 through a refrigerant connection line 162 .

[0195] The chiller 160 heat-exchanges the coolant selectively flowing into the chiller 160 with the refrigerant supplied from the air conditioning device 150 to control the temperature of the coolant. Here, the chiller 160 may be a water-cooling type heat exchanger into which the coolant flows.

[0196] Meanwhile, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a heater 135 may be installed on the battery coolant line 131 between the battery module 130 and the chiller 160 .

[0197] When the battery module 130 needs to be heated, the heater 135 is turned on to heat the coolant circulating in the battery coolant line 131 , thereby allowing the coolant with a raised temperature to flow into the battery module 130 .

[0198] Meanwhile, a first branch line 180 may be installed on the battery coolant line 131 , which connects each battery coolant line 131 between the chiller 160 and the battery module 130 through the valve 140 .

[0199] In addition, a second branch line 190 is installed on the second coolant line 121 , which separates the battery coolant line 131 and the second coolant line 121 from each other.

[0200] The second branch line 190 may be selectively connected to the second coolant line 121 , whereby the second cooling device 120 forms an independent closed loop through the second coolant line 121 .

[0201] Meanwhile, a separate valve may be provided at a point where the second branch line 190 intersects the second coolant line 121 and the battery coolant line 131 or on the second branch line 190. Such a valve may be a three-way valve or a two-way valve.

[0202] Here, the valve 140 selectively connects the second coolant line 121 and the battery coolant line 131 , or selectively connects the battery coolant line 131 and the first branch line 180 to control the flow of the coolant.

[0203] That is, when the battery module 130 is cooled using the coolant cooled by the second radiator 122 , the valve 140 may connect the second coolant line 121 connected to the second radiator 122 with the battery coolant line 131 and disconnect the first branch line 180 .

[0204] Furthermore, when heating the battery module 130 or when cooling the battery module 130 using the coolant that performs heat exchange with the refrigerant, the valve 140 may connect the first branch line 180 and disconnect the connection between the second coolant line 121 and the battery coolant line 131 .

[0205] Accordingly, the low-temperature coolant that has exchanged heat with the refrigerant in the chiller 160 flows into the battery module 130 through the first branch line 180 connected by the valve 140 , thereby effectively cooling the battery module 130 .

[0206] On the other hand, when the battery module 130 is heated, the coolant circulating along the battery coolant line 131 is blocked from flowing into the second radiator 122 by the operation of the valve 140, so that the coolant heated by the operation of the heater 135 flows into the battery module 130, thereby quickly heating the battery module 130.

[0207] Meanwhile, in the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, although it is described that the valve is not provided in the second branch line 190 as an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the valve may be used to selectively connect the second branch line 190 when necessary.

[0208] That is, the second branch line 190 can control the flow of coolant circulating through the second coolant line 121, the battery coolant line 131, the first branch line 180 selectively connected according to each mode of the vehicle (heating, cooling or dehumidification), and the operation of the second and third water pumps 126 and 133, thereby controlling the connection and disconnection of the second branch line 190.

[0209] Meanwhile, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the air conditioning device 150 includes a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) module 152 , a condenser 154 , a first expansion valve 156 , an evaporator 158 , and a compressor 159 connected through a refrigerant line 151 .

[0210] First, the HVAC module 152 is connected through the refrigerant line 151, has an opening / closing door 153 therein and controls the external air passing through the evaporator 158 to selectively flow into the interior heater 157 according to heating, cooling, and heating / dehumidification modes.

[0211] That is, in the heating mode of the vehicle, the open / close door 153 is opened to allow the outside air passing through the evaporator 158 to flow into the interior heater 157. On the other hand, in the cooling mode of the vehicle, the open / close door 153 closes the interior heater 157 to allow the outside air cooled when passing through the evaporator 158 to flow directly into the vehicle.

[0212] The condenser 154 is connected to the refrigerant line 151 to allow the refrigerant to pass through the refrigerant line 151 , and is connected to each of the first coolant line 111 and the second coolant line 121 to allow the coolant to circulate in each of the first cooling device 110 and the second cooling device 120 .

[0213] That is, the condenser 154 may be a water-cooling type heat exchanger in which a coolant flows into the condenser 154. The condenser 154 may include a first heat radiating unit 154a, a second heat radiating unit 154b, and a partition 154c.

[0214] First, the first heat radiating unit 154a is connected to the first coolant line 111. Therefore, the first heat radiating unit 154a may allow the refrigerant supplied by the compressor 159 to be heat-exchanged with the coolant supplied by the first cooling device 110 first.

[0215] The second heat radiating unit 154b is connected to the second coolant line 121. Therefore, the second heat radiating unit 154b may heat-exchange the refrigerant passing through the first heat radiating unit 154a with the coolant supplied by the second cooling device 120.

[0216] In addition, the partition 154c may separate the first heat radiating unit 154a and the second heat radiating unit 154b in the condenser 154 to prevent the coolant supplied by each of the first cooling device 110 and the second cooling device 120 from mixing. The partition 154c may allow the refrigerant to pass so that the refrigerant flows from the first heat radiating unit 154a into the second heat radiating unit 154b.

[0217] Therefore, the refrigerant passing through the condenser 154 may firstly exchange heat with the coolant supplied through the first coolant line 111 , and secondly exchange heat with the coolant supplied through the second coolant line 121 .

[0218] That is, the condenser 154 causes the refrigerant supplied by the compressor 159 to firstly exchange heat with the coolant supplied by the first cooling device 110 to condense the refrigerant. Likewise, the condenser 154 causes the refrigerant to secondly exchange heat with the coolant supplied by the second cooling device 120 to condense the refrigerant. Through such operation, the condenser 154 can reduce the temperature of the refrigerant and increase the condensation amount.

[0219] Meanwhile, a sub-condenser 155 for additionally condensing the refrigerant passing through the condenser 154 may be installed on the refrigerant line 151 between the condenser 154 and the evaporator 158 .

[0220] The sub-condenser 155 is disposed in front of the second radiator 122 , and heat is exchanged between the refrigerant flowing into the sub-condenser 155 and the outside air.

[0221] Accordingly, the sub-condenser 155 further condenses the refrigerant condensed by the condenser 154 to increase secondary cooling of the refrigerant, and thus the coefficient of performance (COP), ie, the cooling performance coefficient of the power required by the compressor, can be improved.

[0222] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a first expansion valve 156 is installed on the refrigerant line 151 connecting the sub-condenser 155 and the evaporator 158. The first expansion valve 156 receives the refrigerant passing through the sub-condenser 155 and expands it.

[0223] The compressor 159 is connected between the evaporator 158 and the condenser 154 through the refrigerant line 151. The compressor 159 compresses the gaseous refrigerant.

[0224] Meanwhile, a second expansion valve 164 may be installed on the refrigerant connecting line 162 .

[0225] That is, the second expansion valve 164 is installed on the refrigerant connection line 162 connecting the sub-condenser 155 and the chiller 160 .

[0226] Here, when the battery module 130 is cooled by the refrigerant in a cooling mode of the vehicle, the second expansion valve 164 operates The second expansion valve 164 may expand the refrigerant flowing through the refrigerant connection line 162 and allow the expanded refrigerant to flow into the chiller 160 .

[0227] That is, the second expansion valve 164 expands the condensed refrigerant discharged from the sub-condenser 155 and flows the expanded refrigerant into the chiller 160 in a state where the refrigerant is cooled, further reducing the temperature of the coolant passing through the interior to the chiller 160 .

[0228] Accordingly, the coolant whose temperature is reduced when passing through the chiller 160 flows into the battery module 130 , whereby the battery module can be cooled more effectively.

[0229] As described above, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, with the battery cooling system for a vehicle, the battery module 130 is effectively heated or cooled by using the chiller 160 in which the coolant and the refrigerant perform heat exchange in the electric vehicle, thereby promoting simplification of the system.

[0230] Furthermore, according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the battery module 130 is effectively heated or cooled, contributing to the optimal performance of the battery module 130 , and the total driving distance of the vehicle is increased through the effective management of the battery module 130 .

[0231] In addition, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerant is doubly condensed by the condenser 154 using the coolant supplied to each of the first and second cooling devices 110 and 120 to improve condensation performance, and the refrigerant is additionally condensed by the sub-condenser 155 to improve cooling performance and reduce power consumption.

[0232] Furthermore, according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, by simplifying the entire system, the manufacturing cost and weight can be reduced, and the space utilization rate can be improved.
