Abstract
Description
[0001] This application is a divisional application of Chinese patent application No. 201510042518.6. Technical Field
[0002] The present disclosure relates to a display device including a plurality of sub-pixels in one pixel, and an electronic device using the display device. Background Art
[0003] The stripe array structure and the delta array structure are called pixel array structures in a display device using an electro-luminescence (EL) element, etc. As another structure, a pixel array structure disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2011-249334 is known. Summary of the invention
[0004] The delta array structure is conducive to the wide opening of the pixel to achieve long life and wide viewing angle. However, it is difficult to avoid the uneven feeling of the line pattern in the row direction and column direction of the pixel. On the other hand, in the case of adopting the strip array structure, the uneven feeling can be avoided. However, the total length of the sub-pixel used for color separation in one pixel becomes longer, and the aperture ratio is reduced, and then, the brightness and life are deteriorated.
[0005] Therefore, as disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2011-249334, a pixel array structure that achieves high resolution and secures an aperture ratio is proposed. In the pixel array structure disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2011-249334, a first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel are formed on a column in one pixel, and a third sub-pixel is formed on two rows adjacent to the first sub-pixel and the second sub-pixel, and therefore, the aperture ratio is improved. In this pixel array structure, the opening width of the third sub-pixel in the row direction is greater than the opening widths of the first sub-pixel and the second sub-pixel.
[0006] However, in the pixel array structure disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2011-249334, since the opening width of the third sub-pixel in the row direction is different from the opening width of the first and second sub-pixels, the viewing angle characteristics are degraded. As an actual phenomenon, the color difference change occurs at the time of full-color emission (white light emission). As the pixel pitch becomes smaller, the phenomenon appears more obviously, and the hue of the image seen from the front of the display panel and the hue of the image seen obliquely are different from each other. Therefore, the viewing angle characteristics are degraded compared with the strip array structure and the delta array structure with the same opening width of the sub-pixels of each color. This phenomenon occurs significantly in high-resolution panels above 2000ppi, and the expectation of high-resolution displays has become a major problem in recent years. In particular, the resolution of the display panel used in the viewfinder or head-mounted display has reached a range above 2000ppi, and it is obvious that the display panel used for this application reduces the quality of the panel.
[0007] It is desirable to provide a display device and an electronic device that can achieve both a wide aperture and a wide viewing angle.
[0008] According to the present disclosure, a display device is provided, comprising a plurality of pixels arranged in a first direction and a second direction. Each pixel comprises: a first sub-pixel; a second sub-pixel arranged to be adjacent to the first sub-pixel in the first direction; a third sub-pixel arranged to be adjacent to at least one of the first sub-pixel and the second sub-pixel in the second direction; and a light shielding portion arranged corresponding to a position on which the third sub-pixel is arranged so as to limit the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel in the first direction.
[0009] According to the present disclosure, an electronic device is provided, comprising a display device in which a plurality of pixels are arranged in a first direction and a second direction.
[0010] In the display device or the electronic device according to the present disclosure, the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel in the first direction is limited by the light shielding portion.
[0011] According to the display device and the electronic device in the present disclosure, since the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel in the first direction is limited by the light shielding portion, a wide aperture and a wide viewing angle can be simultaneously achieved.
[0012] The effects described here are not limited thereto, and may be any effects described in the present disclosure. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0073] Overall structure of the display device 1
[0074] Figure 1 An example of a planar configuration of a display device in the first embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. The display device 1 is used for a television set or the like, and has a configuration in which a plurality of pixels 2 are arranged in a matrix shape in a first direction and a second direction in a display area 110 .
[0075] Each pixel 2 includes a first sub-pixel 2R, a second sub-pixel 2G, and a third sub-pixel 2B. The first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G are arranged adjacent to each other in the first direction. The third sub-pixel 2B is arranged adjacent to the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G in the second direction.
[0076] In this embodiment, the array structure of the pixel 2 will be described, wherein the first direction is the vertical direction (Y direction) in the display surface, and the second direction is the lateral direction (X direction) in the display surface. Figure 1 In the display plane, the display plane refers to the plane parallel to the panel surface (XY plane). Figure 1 In the description, the direction perpendicular to the plate surface will be used as the Z direction, that is, the thickness direction of the pixel 2 is the Z direction.
[0077] The arrangement of the sub-pixels is not limited to the illustrated example, but, for example, the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G may be arranged in opposite directions. That is, the first sub-pixel 2R may be arranged adjacent to the lower side of the second sub-pixel 2G.
[0078] Pixel 2 array structure
[0079] Each pixel 2 includes a light emitting element that emits light of a predetermined color and a color filter 23 that transmits the light of the predetermined color. Figure 2 An example of an array structure of a color filter portion of the pixel 2 in the display device 1 is shown. Figure 3 An example of the configuration of a color filter portion of one pixel is shown. Figure 4 An example of an array structure of light-emitting elements of the pixel 2 is shown. Figure 5 An example of a cross-sectional structure of the pixel 2 is shown.
[0080] The first sub-pixel 2R includes a first light emitting element 10R ( Figure 4 and Figure 5 ) and a first color filter 23R ( Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figure 5 The second sub-pixel 2G includes a second light-emitting element 10G ( Figure 4 and Figure 5 ) and a second color filter 23G ( Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figure 5 The third subpixel 2B includes a third light emitting element 10B ( ) that emits a third color light LB having a shorter wavelength than the first color light LR and the second color light LG. Figure 4 and Figure 5 ) and a third color filter 23B ( Figure 2 , Figure 3 and Figure 5 ).
[0081] For example, the first light emitting element 10R emits red light as the first color light LR. For example, the second light emitting element 10G emits green light as the second color light LG. For example, the third light emitting element 10B emits blue light as the third color light LB. Each of the first light emitting element 10R, the second light emitting element 10G, and the third light emitting element 10B may be formed of an inorganic EL element other than the organic EL element described below, a semiconductor laser, or a light emitting diode (LED).
[0082] In each pixel 2, the light shielding portion 24 is provided as a black matrix. The light shielding portion 24 is arranged to correspond to the position on which the third sub-pixel 2B is arranged so as to limit the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel 2B in the first direction (Y direction). Figure 2 and Figure 3 As shown in the figure, the light shielding portion 24 is formed by a first light shielding portion 24-1 and a second light shielding portion 24-2. The first light shielding portion 24-1 is arranged on the boundary portion of the pixels adjacent to each other in the first direction. The second light shielding portion 24-2 is arranged on the central portion of the third sub-pixel 2B in one pixel. In this way, in one pixel, the first pixel area 2B-1 and the second pixel area 2B-2 are formed in the third sub-pixel 2B, and the second light shielding portion 24-2 serves as a boundary.
[0083] It is preferable that the planar shapes of the first light emitting element 10R, the second light emitting element 10G, and the third light emitting element 10B correspond to Figure 4, and the shape of the position where the color filter 23 and the light shielding portion 24 are arranged as shown in . Preferably, in one pixel, the third light emitting element 10B is separated at a portion corresponding to the position where the second light shielding portion 24-2 is provided. The width of the third light emitting element 10B and the width of the light shielding portion 24 in the second direction may be different from each other. The first light emitting element 10R, the second light emitting element 10G, and the third light emitting element 10B (light emitting surface) may include a light emitting layer 16C and a lower electrode 14 (reflection surface).
[0084] The light shielding portion 24 is formed of a black resin film mixed with a black coloring agent or whose optical density is 1 or more, or a thin film filter using the mutual interference of thin films. It is preferable to use a black resin film because the black resin film can form the light shielding portion 24 inexpensively and easily. The thin film filter is formed by laminating a thin film formed of a metal, a metal nitride, or a metal oxide in one or more layers, and light is attenuated using the mutual interference of the thin films. In particular, for the thin film filter, a film of alternately laminating chromium and chromium (III) oxide (Cr2O3) may be included.
[0085] For example, the color filter 23 is formed of a resin mixed with a pigment. By selecting the pigment, the light transmittance can be adjusted so that the light transmittance in the wavelength band of the target color is high and the light transmittance in other wavelength bands is low.
[0086] like Figure 5 As shown in FIG. 1 , the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B are provided on the first substrate 11. The light shielding portion 24 and the color filter 23 are provided on the second substrate 21. The first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21 are formed of glass, a silicon (Si) sheet, a resin, or the like. The first substrate 11 and the second substrate 21 and the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B are arranged to be opposed to each other, the light shielding portion 24 and the color filter 23 are arranged inside, and the intermediate layer 30 formed of a resin layer 32 and a protective film 31 is provided between the two substrates.
[0087] like Figure 5 As shown in , with respect to the first sub-pixel 2R and the third sub-pixel 2B, color separation is performed on each other in the second direction, and the color boundary 25 of the first color filter 23R and the third color filter 23B is a boundary. Similarly, with respect to the second sub-pixel 2G and the third sub-pixel 2B, color separation is performed on each other in the second direction, and the color boundary 25 of the second color filter 23G and the third color filter 23B is a boundary. Similarly, with respect to the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G, color separation is performed on each other in the second direction, and the color boundary 25 of the first color filter 23R and the second color filter 23G is a boundary.
[0088] In this way, in the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G, color separation is performed in both the first direction and the second direction by the color filter 23. That is, color separation is performed between pixels and between sub-pixels by the color filter 23. For this reason, with respect to the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G, the viewing angle is limited by the color filter 23 in the first direction and the second direction.
[0089] On the other hand, the third sub-pixel 2B has a configuration in which color separation is performed in the second direction by the color filter 23, but color separation is not performed in the first direction. That is, with respect to the third sub-pixel 2B, the viewing angle is limited in the second direction by the color filter 23, but the viewing angle is not limited in the first direction. With respect to the third sub-pixel 2B, the viewing angle in the first direction is limited by the light shielding portion 24. In this way, the viewing angle characteristics in the direction in which color separation is not performed are improved.
[0090] exist Figure 2 In, L BM-H represents the width of the light shielding portion 24 in the lateral direction, and L BM-V L represents the width of the light shielding portion 24 in the vertical direction. subpix1-H represents the opening width of the first sub-pixel 2R in the horizontal direction and L subpix1-V L represents the opening width of the first sub-pixel 2R in the vertical direction. subpix2-H represents the opening width of the second sub-pixel 2G in the horizontal direction, and L subpix2-V represents the opening width of the second sub-pixel 2G in the vertical direction.
[0091] In addition, L subpix3-H represents the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B in the lateral direction, and Lsubpix3-V Indicates the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B in the vertical direction. Here, the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B indicates each opening width of the first pixel area 2B-1 and the second pixel area 2B-2 of the third sub-pixel 2B. In the present embodiment, since the light shielding portion 24 is provided on the central portion of the third sub-pixel 2B in the first direction and on the boundary portion of one pixel, the opening width L of each of the first pixel area 2B-1 and the second pixel area 2B-2 in the vertical direction is subpix3-V The same size.
[0092] In the second direction, it is preferred that the width of the light shielding portion 24 is smaller than the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B. For example, it is preferred that the light shielding portion 24 has a rectangular basic shape, wherein the direction (second direction) separating the colors of the third sub-pixel 2B is the main axis, and as shown in Formula 1, it is preferred that the length of the main axis is smaller than the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B.
[0093] L BM-H <Lsubpix3-H …(Formula 1)
[0094] Furthermore, as shown in the following formula 2, it is preferable that the opening width of the first subpixel 2R and the opening width of the second subpixel 2G are larger than the opening width of the third subpixel 2B in the direction in which color separation is performed.
[0095] L subpix3-H <L subpix1-H
[0096] L subpix3-H <L subpix2-H …(Formula 2)
[0097] Because the extraction of light is reduced, it is preferable that the light shielding portion 24 is not arranged on the boundary portion (color boundary 25) of each of the color filters 23R, 23G, and 23B. As described above, it is preferable that, in one pixel, the third light emitting element 10B is separated at a portion corresponding to the position at which the second light shielding portion 24-2 is provided. The reason for separating the third light emitting element 10B in one pixel is to avoid a phenomenon in which light emitted from the third light emitting element 10B is emitted at the second light shielding portion 24-2, interferes in the unit of the display panel, and then generates an unexpected peak.
[0098] Pixel 2 drive circuit and light-emitting diode structure
[0099] Figure 6 An example of a circuit configuration of the display device 1 is shown. Figure 7 An example of a driving circuit of a pixel 2 in a display device 1 is shown. The display device 1 is a device used as an organic EL television apparatus, includes organic elements as light-emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B, and includes, for example, a signal line driving circuit 120 and a scanning line driving circuit 130 near a display area 110, which are drivers for image display.
[0100] A pixel driving circuit 140 is disposed in the display area 110 . Figure 7 An example of a pixel driving circuit 140 is shown. The pixel driving circuit 140 is an active type driving circuit formed on the lower layer of the lower electrode 14 described below. That is, the pixel driving circuit 140 includes a driving transistor Tr1, a writing transistor Tr2, a capacitor (holding capacitance) Cs between the transistors Tr1 and Tr2, and a light emitting element 10R (10G or 10B) connected in series to the driving transistor Tr1 between the first power supply line (Vcc) and the second power supply line (GND). The driving transistor Tr1 and the writing transistor Tr2 are formed by ordinary thin film transistors, and their configuration is not particularly limited, that is, for example, it can be an inverse staggered structure (so-called bottom gate type) or it can be a staggered structure (top gate type).
[0101] In the pixel driving circuit 140, a plurality of signal lines 120A are arranged in the column direction, and a plurality of scan lines 130A are arranged in the row direction. The intersection of each signal line 120A and each scan line 130A corresponds to any one (sub-pixel) of the light-emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B. Each signal line 120A is connected to the signal line driving circuit 120, and an image signal is provided from the signal line driving circuit 120 to the source of the write transistor Tr2 via the signal line 120A. Each scan line 130A is connected to the scan line driving circuit 130, and an image signal is provided from the scan line driving circuit 130 to the gate of the write transistor Tr2 sequentially via the scan line 130A.
[0102] Figure 8 The cross-sectional configuration of the light-emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B is shown. The light-emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B are light-emitting elements in which an organic layer 16, a driving transistor Tr1 including a pixel driving circuit 140, a flat insulating film 12, a lower electrode 14 as an anode, an inter-electrode insulating film 15, and a light-emitting layer 16C described below; and an upper electrode 17 as a cathode; these are stacked in the above order from the side of the first substrate 11. The driving transistor Tr1 is electrically connected to the lower electrode 14 via a connection hole 12A provided on the flat insulating film 12.
[0103] The light emitting elements 10R, 10G and 10B are covered by a protective film 31 and then sealed by bonding the entire surface of the protective film 31 with a resin layer 32 therein to the second substrate 21. The protective film 31 is formed of silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon dioxide, metal oxide, etc. For example, the resin layer 32 is formed of a thermosetting resin or an ultraviolet curing resin. The intermediate layer 30 described above is formed of the protective film 31 and the resin layer 32.
[0104] The flat insulating film 12 flattens the surface of the first substrate 11 on which the pixel driving circuit 140 is formed, and preferably, because the excellent connection hole 12A is provided thereon, the flat insulating film 12 is formed of a material having high pattern accuracy. For example, as a forming material of the flat insulating film 12, an organic material such as polyamide, or an inorganic material such as silicon dioxide (SiO2) may be included.
[0105] The lower electrode 14 also acts as a reflective layer, and it is desirable that the reflectivity is as high as possible for improving the luminous efficiency. In particular, in the case where the lower electrode 14 is used as an anode, it is desirable that the lower electrode 14 is formed by a material having improved hole injection characteristics. As an example of the lower electrode 14, a single metal element or metal element alloy having a thickness (hereinafter referred to as thickness) equal to or greater than 100nm and equal to or less than 1000nm in the stacking direction may be included, such as chromium (Cr), gold (Au), platinum (Pt), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), tungsten (W) or silver (Ag). A transparent conductive film (such as indium tin oxide (ITO)) may be provided on the surface of the lower electrode 14. A material having a high reflectivity but having a hole injection barrier problem due to the presence of an oxide film or a low work function (such as an aluminum (Al) alloy) on the surface can be used as the lower electrode 14 by providing a suitable hole injection layer.
[0106] The inter-electrode insulating film 15 is for ensuring insulation between the lower electrode 14 and the upper electrode 17 and making the light emitting region into an ideal shape, and is, for example, an ideal shape formed of a photosensitive resin. The inter-electrode insulating film 15 is provided only to surround the lower electrode 14, and the region of the lower electrode 14 exposed from the inter-electrode insulating film 15 is the light emitting region. The organic layer 16 and the upper electrode 17 are also provided on the inter-electrode insulating film 15, but light emission occurs only from the light emitting region.
[0107] The organic layer 16 has a structure in which a hole injection layer 16A, a hole propagation layer 16B, a light-emitting layer 16C, an electron propagation layer 16D, and an electron injection layer 16E are sequentially stacked from the lower electrode 14. In the above, if necessary, a layer other than the light-emitting layer 16C can be provided. According to the respective light-emitting colors of the light-emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B, the organic layer 16 may have different structures. The hole injection layer 16A is a buffer layer for improving the hole injection efficiency and preventing leakage. The hole propagation layer 16B is a layer for improving the hole propagation efficiency propagated to the light-emitting layer 16C. The light-emitting layer 16C is a layer that emits light when an electric potential is applied and recombination occurs between electrons and holes. The electron propagation layer 16D is a layer for improving the hole propagation efficiency propagated to the light-emitting layer 16C. The electron injection layer 16E is a layer for improving the electron injection efficiency.
[0108] The thickness of the upper electrode 17 is about 10nm, and is formed of an alloy of aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca) or sodium (Na). Among the above, magnesium and silver alloy (Mg-Ag alloy) is preferred due to high conductivity and low absorption in a thin film state. The ratio of Mg:Ag in the Mg-Ag alloy is not particularly limited, but is ideally within a range of about 20:1 to 1:1 based on the film thickness. In addition, the material of the upper electrode 17 may be an aluminum (Al) and lithium (Li) alloy (Al-Li alloy).
[0109] The upper electrode 17 also has the function of a semi-permeable reflective layer. That is, the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B include the resonator structure MC1, and the light generated at the light emitting layer 16C resonates by the resonator structure MC1 between the lower electrode 14 and the upper electrode 17. The resonator structure MC1 causes the light generated at the light emitting layer 16C to resonate and be extracted from the semi-permeable reflective surface P2, wherein the interface between the lower electrode 14 and the organic layer 16 is the reflective surface P1, the interface between the intermediate layer 18 and the electron injection layer 16E is the semi-permeable reflective surface P2, and the organic layer 16 is the resonant portion. In this way, if the resonator structure MC1 is included, the light generated at the light emitting layer 16C is disturbed by multiple layers, the half-value width of the continuous light extracted from the semi-permeable reflective surface P2 side is reduced, and then, the peak intensity can be increased. That is, the luminous intensity in the front direction increases, and therefore, the color purity of the luminous light can be improved.
[0110] There is a position (resonance surface) where the extracted luminous intensity becomes maximum between the reflection surface P1 and the semi-permeable reflection surface P2. It is preferable that the optical path L1 between the reflection surface P1 and the semi-permeable reflection surface P2 satisfies a predetermined condition in order to improve the extraction efficiency.
[0111] like Fig. 9 As shown in , the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B may be elements that do not include the semi-permeable reflection surface P2 and reflect the light generated at the light emitting layer 16C at the reflection surface P1 and interfere between the reflected light and the light generated at the light emitting layer 16C.
[0112] 1.2 Specific Design Examples
[0113] In the display device 1 in the present embodiment, the viewing angle characteristics can be adjusted in the direction in which color separation is not performed by changing the lateral size (width) of the light shielding portion 24. For example, by reducing the width of the light shielding portion 24, the viewing angle characteristics in the vertical direction of the third sub-pixel 2B can be changed to a wide angle, and the viewing angle characteristics of the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G can be combined. The viewing angle characteristics in the lateral direction can be adjusted so that the widths of the first color filter 23R of the first sub-pixel 2R and the second color filter 23G of the second sub-pixel 2G and the width of the third color filter 23B of the third sub-pixel 2B become different from each other.
[0114] Fig.10 An example of the design of the pixel 2 in this embodiment is shown. The dimensions of each part are as follows.
[0115] Pitch of one pixel: 9.9μm
[0116] L BM-H :3.0μm
[0117] L BM-V :0.8μm
[0118] L subpix1-H :6.1μm
[0119] L subpix2-H :6.1μm
[0120] L subpix3-H :3.8μm
[0121] L subpix1-V :4.95μm
[0122] L subpix2-V :4.95μm
[0123] L subpix3-V :4.15μm
[0124] For example, the gap D between the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B and the color filter 23 is G ( Figure 5 ), and the opening width of the sub-pixel is 1:1, preferably, the opening width L of the first sub-pixel 2R in the horizontal direction is subpix1-H The opening width L of the second sub-pixel 2G in the vertical direction subpix2-H are respectively the opening width L of the third sub-pixel 2B in the horizontal direction described below. subpix3-H one to three times.
[0125] 1<L subpix1-H <L subpix3-H <3
[0126] 1<L subpix2-H <L subpix3-H <3
[0127] Due to interference in the unit of the display panel compared to the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G emitting light having a wavelength longer than the third color light LB, the third sub-pixel 2B emitting the third color light LB having a shorter wavelength has a higher light extraction efficiency in the low-angle side (less than 20 degrees), and therefore, the viewing angle characteristic is not particularly good. In order to control this characteristic, by reducing the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B in the lateral direction, the viewing angle characteristics of each of the first sub-pixel 2R, the second sub-pixel 2G, and the third sub-pixel 2B are consistent with each other, and therefore, the color difference is improved.
[0128] If the width L of the light shielding portion 24 in the lateral direction is BM-H is reduced, the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel 2B in the vertical direction increases (the viewing angle in the horizontal direction is not affected). subpix3-V The opening width is less than L subpix1-V and L subpix2-V The opening width needs to be reduced by MB-H To increase the viewing angle characteristics of the third sub-pixel 2B. BM-H The value of is obtained from formula (3), the viewing angle characteristics of each sub-pixel in the vertical direction are consistent with each other, and therefore, the color difference is improved. In actual applications, this value does not have to completely satisfy formula (3), but can be a value that basically satisfies formula (3).
[0129] L BM-H =L subpix3-H ×L subpix3-V / L subpix1-V
[0130] L BM-H =L subpix3-H ×L subpix3-V / L subpix2-V ...Formula (3)
[0131] Fig.11 Shows Fig.10 2 in the horizontal direction in the design example. Fig.12 Shows Fig.10 The viewing angle characteristics of pixel 2 in the vertical direction in the design example in FIG. Fig.11 and Fig.12 , white tristimulus values of X, Y and Z are shown. Stimulus value X corresponds to the first color light LR emitted by the first subpixel 2R. Stimulus value Y corresponds to the second color light LG emitted by the second subpixel 2G. Stimulus value Z corresponds to the third color light LB emitted by the third subpixel 2B.
[0132] like Fig.10 In the design example shown in , by making LBM-V 0.8 μm, as Fig.12 The tristimulus values X, Y, and Z in the viewing angle characteristics shown in FIG. 1 are consistent with each other, and it can be seen that the color difference of the viewing angle characteristics is reduced. In addition, in the viewing angle characteristics in the lateral direction, by making the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B smaller than that shown in FIG. Fig.11 The opening widths of the first sub-pixel 2R and the second sub-pixel 2G shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 are consistent with each other in tristimulus values X, Y, and Z, and the color difference of the viewing angle characteristic is reduced.
[0133] Next, Fig.13 and Fig.14 The width L of the light shielding portion 24 is shown in FIG. BM-H The viewing angle characteristics of pixel 2 in the vertical direction when changed. Fig.13 Shows Fig.10 The width L of the light shielding portion 24 in the design example shown in BM-H Larger (L BM-H =3.8μm), and Fig.14 Shows Fig.10 The width L of the light shielding portion 24 in the design example shown in BM-H Smaller (L BM-H =0.8μm) viewing angle characteristics.
[0134] exist Fig.13 It can be seen that by making the width L of the light shielding portion 24 BM-H The viewing angle characteristic of the third sub-pixel 2B (stimulus value Z) in the vertical direction becomes smaller. Fig.14 It can be seen that by making the width L of the light shielding portion 24 BM-H The width L of the light shielding portion 24 is changed to be smaller so that the viewing angle characteristic of the third sub-pixel 2B (stimulus value Z) in the vertical direction becomes wider. BM-H By changing the pixel width that limits the viewing angle, the viewing angle characteristics can be adjusted. BM-H As design parameter adjustment, an optimal design value may be set according to the pixel pitch (opening width) or the gap DG value between the light emitting elements 10R, 10G, and 10B and the color filter 23 .
[0135] 1.3 Effect
[0136] As described above, according to the present embodiment, the viewing angle of the third sub-pixel 2B in the first direction (Y direction) is limited by the light shielding portion 24. Therefore, a wide aperture and a wide viewing angle can be achieved at the same time.
[0137] Fig.15 It shows that when no light shielding part (L BM_H and LBM_V =0), as the viewing angle characteristic of pixel 2 in the vertical direction, Fig.10 A comparative example of the design example shown in . In the structure of the comparative example, since there is no shading portion 24, the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B in the vertical direction increases. For this reason, in the viewing angle characteristics in the vertical direction, when white is displayed, in the image seen at an angle with respect to the display surface, the stimulation value Z of the third sub-pixel 2B increases relatively, and blue color difference occurs. On the other hand, in the array structure of the pixel 2 of the present embodiment, since the shading portion 24 is provided in the third sub-pixel 2B, the viewing angle characteristics (stimulation value Z) of the third sub-pixel 2B can be controlled, and the color difference can be reduced. In addition, in the viewing angle characteristics in the lateral direction, by making the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B with a short wavelength in the lateral direction smaller than the opening widths of other sub-pixels, the viewing angle characteristics of each pixel in the lateral direction can be consistent with each other, and then, the color difference can be improved. In this way, a wide opening (long life) and a wide viewing angle can be achieved while maintaining excellent visibility.
[0138] The effects described herein are merely examples and are not limited thereto, and other effects may be possible. It will be described below that the above-described situation is also applicable to other embodiments and modified examples.

[0144] The planar shape of the light shielding portion 24 is not limited to a rectangle, an ellipse, or a circle, but any other planar shape may be adopted.
[0145] 1.4.3 Third Modification
[0146] Fig.18 An example of an array structure of a color filter portion of a pixel 2 in a third modification example is shown. Fig.18 and Fig.19As shown, the width L of the first light shielding portion 24-1 of the light shielding portion 24 in the lateral direction is BM-H1 and the width L of the second light shielding portion 24 - 2 in the lateral direction BM-H2 Can be different from each other.
[0147] 1.4.4 Fourth Modification
[0148] Fig. 20 FIG. 4 shows an example of the array structure of the color filter portion of the pixel 2 in the fourth modification. Fig. 20 As shown in Figure 5 According to the cross-sectional structure shown in FIG. 1 , the resin layer 32 may be omitted from the intermediate layer 30 .
[0149] 1.4.5 Fifth variant
[0150] Fig.21 FIG. 4 shows an example of the array structure of the color filter portion of the pixel 2 in the fifth modification example. Fig.21 As shown in Figure 5 In the cross-sectional structure shown in FIG, the positions of the light shielding portions 24 arranged in the thickness direction (Z direction) may be different. Figure 5 In the cross-sectional structure shown in FIG. 1 , the light shielding portion 24 is provided on the side opposite to the intermediate layer 30. Fig.21 As shown in FIG. 8 , the light shielding portion 24 may be provided on a side surface close to the intermediate layer 30 .
[0151] 2. Second Embodiment (Example in which the light shielding portion 24 is arranged in a position other than the central portion in one pixel)
[0152] 2.1 Construction
[0153] In this embodiment, the array structure of the pixels 2, especially the positions where the light shielding portions 24 are arranged, is different from the array structure of the display device 1 in the first embodiment described above.
[0154] In this embodiment, the configuration and function related to the portion other than the array structure of the pixel 2, in particular, the position of the light shielding portion 24 can be the same as that in the first embodiment. In addition, this configuration can be adopted in a modification example in which this embodiment is combined with the first embodiment.
[0155] Fig. 22 An example of the array structure of the color filter portion of the pixel 2 in this embodiment is shown. Fig.23 An example of the configuration of a color filter portion of one pixel in this embodiment is shown. Fig.24 An example of an array structure of light-emitting elements of the pixel 2 is shown.
[0156] In the array structure of the pixel 2 of the present embodiment, the second light shielding portion 24-2 of the light shielding portion 24 is arranged at a position different from the central portion of the third sub-pixel 2B in the first direction. For this reason, in one pixel, the sizes (opening sizes) of the first pixel area 2B-1 and the second pixel area 2B-2 in the third sub-pixel 2B are different from each other, and the second light shielding portion 24-2 is the boundary. In this way, the viewing angle characteristics of the first pixel area 2B-1 and the viewing angle characteristics of the second pixel area 2B-2 are different from each other. Fig. 22 In, L subpix3-V1 L represents the opening width of the first pixel region 2B-1 in the vertical direction. subpix3-V2 represents the opening width of the second pixel region 2B-2 in the vertical direction.
[0157] In this embodiment, it is preferred that the planar shapes of the first light emitting element 10R, the second light emitting element 10G, and the third light emitting element 10B are as follows: Fig.24 The shape of the position where the color filter 23 and the light shielding portion 24 are arranged as shown in . Preferably, in one pixel, the third light emitting element 10B is separated at a portion corresponding to the position where the second light shielding portion 24-2 is provided. In the second direction, the width of the third light emitting element 10B and the width of the light shielding portion 24 may be different from each other. The first light emitting element 10R, the second light emitting element 10G, and the third light emitting element 10B may include a light emitting layer 16C (light emitting surface) and a lower electrode 14 (reflection surface), respectively.
[0158] 2.2 Function and Effect
[0159] Fig.25 FIG. 2 shows the viewing angle characteristics of the third sub-pixel 2B in the vertical direction in this embodiment. Fig.25 In the left diagram of FIG. 1 , the viewing angle characteristics of each of the first pixel region 2B-1 and the second pixel region 2B-2 in the third sub-pixel 2B are separately shown. Fig.25 The left diagram of shows the viewing angle characteristics of the entire third sub-pixel 2B.
[0160] The viewing angle characteristic can be adjusted by shifting the position of the light shielding portion 24 from the central part of a pixel and changing the opening width of the third sub-pixel 2B in the vertical direction in one pixel. Since the viewing angle characteristic of the entire third sub-pixel 2B is the sum of the viewing angle characteristic of the vertically wide pixel (the second pixel area 2B-2) and the viewing angle characteristic of the narrow pixel (the first pixel area 2B-1), the inflection point can be set at a position such as Fig.25 The entire viewing angle characteristics shown in the right diagram in FIG, and the viewing angle characteristics can be finely adjusted.
[0161] 3. Third Embodiment (Example of Four-Color Display Device 1A)
[0162] Fig.26 1 is a diagram showing an example of a planar configuration of a display device 1A in the present embodiment. The display device 1A in the present embodiment has a configuration of a plurality of pixels 2A of four-color sub-pixels, wherein a fourth sub-pixel 2W is added to the first sub-pixel 2R, the second sub-pixel 2G, and the third sub-pixel 2B, and the display device 1A is arranged in a matrix shape in the first direction and the second direction.
[0163] In the present embodiment, the configuration other than the portion related to the array structure, action, and effect of the pixel 2A may be similar to that in the first embodiment.
[0164] In the display device 1A in this embodiment, the fourth sub-pixel 2W is arranged adjacent to the first sub-pixel 2R in the second direction (X direction). The third sub-pixel 2B is arranged adjacent to the second sub-pixel 2G in the second direction (X direction), and is arranged adjacent to the fourth sub-pixel 2W in the first direction (Y direction).
[0165] The sub-pixels are not limited to the example shown in the arrangement, for example, the fourth sub-pixel 2W and the third sub-pixel 2B may be arranged in opposite directions. That is, the third sub-pixel 2B may be arranged adjacent to the first sub-pixel 2R in the second direction (X direction), and the fourth sub-pixel 2W may be arranged adjacent to the second sub-pixel 2G in the second direction (X direction).
[0166] In the following, reference is made to Figure 27 to Figure 29 as well as Figure 30 to Figure 32 A first example and a second example of the array structure of the pixel 2A will be described. Each pixel 2A includes a light-emitting element that emits color light and a color filter 23A that propagates the color light. The fourth sub-pixel 2W includes a fourth light-emitting element that emits a fourth color light and a fourth color filter 23W that propagates the fourth color light from the fourth light-emitting element. For example, the fourth light-emitting element of the fourth sub-pixel 2W is an element that emits white light.
