DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0013] The following specific embodiments relate to the accompanying drawings. The same figure numbers may be used to identify the same or similar elements in different drawings. In the following description, for the purpose of illustration and not limitation, specific details, such as specific structures, architectures, interfaces, technologies, etc., are described to provide a thorough understanding of the various aspects of each embodiment. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art who benefit from the present disclosure that the various aspects of each embodiment can be practiced in other examples that deviate from these specific details. In some cases, the description of well-known equipment, circuits, and methods is omitted so that the description of the various embodiments will not be obscured by unnecessary details. For the purpose of this document, the phrases "A or B" and "A / B" refer to (A), (B), or (A and B).

[0014] Figure 1 A network 100 is shown according to some embodiments. The network 100 may be a radio access network including an access node 104 and a user equipment (UE) 108. The access node 104 and the UE 108 may be capable of uplink (UL) or downlink (DL) beamforming, which may be facilitated by uplink or downlink beam management.

[0015] Uplink beam management may involve the UE 108 using spatial domain transmit filters (also referred to as "transmit (Tx) beams") based on indicated control or reference signals (e.g., sounding reference signals (SRS), channel state information-reference signals (CSI-RS), or synchronization signal blocks (SSBs)). For example, consider the use of CSI-RS / SSBs. The access node 104 may use beam 112 as a DL Tx beam to transmit CSI-RS / SSBs. The UE 108 may use different spatial domain receive filters (also referred to as "receive (Rx) beams") to measure the received CSI-RS / SSBs and determine that beam 112 is the best DL Rx beam for receiving the CSI-RS / SSBs (e.g., based on some received quality metrics).

[0016] If UE 108 supports beam correspondence, UE 108 may also use beam 116 as the best UL Tx beam. That is, UE 108 may transmit CSI-RS / SSB through beam 112 using the same spatial domain filter used by access node 104 in order to transmit uplink signals to access node 104 using beam 116. Beam correspondence may also be referred to as "full beam correspondence", which may mean that the transmit beam and the receive beam may be the same for a channel.

[0017] However, in some embodiments, UE 108 may not support full beam correspondence, but only partial beam correspondence. In various embodiments, according to some embodiments, UE 108 may provide access node 104 with an indication of whether UE 108 supports full beam correspondence or partial beam correspondence as part of a UE capability report.

[0018] With partial beam correspondence, the best transmit beam and receive beam may be related but not identical. For example, if beam 116 is determined to be the best DL receive beam and UE 108 only supports partial beam correspondence, access node 104 may determine that beam 120 related to beam 116 is the best UL transmit beam.

[0019] The UE corresponding to the partial beam may not perfectly reproduce the best receive beam for uplink transmission obtained in the downlink. Due to the error of the specific implementation, there may be multiple candidate uplink beams that may be the best for the uplink. In this case, the UE 108 can use the candidate uplink beam to transmit multiple SRS resources, and the access node 104 can determine which beam is the best for the uplink. The UE 108 can also know which candidate beams for the uplink are related to the obtained receive beamforming direction. In some embodiments, the UE 108 may be configured with relevant information.

[0020] Various embodiments describe management of uplink beams for UEs supporting partial beam correspondence. The present disclosure provides embodiments that support uplink beam management for UEs utilizing partial beam correspondence. Embodiments herein include mechanisms for maintaining the same understanding of the beam management process between UE 108 and access node 104, and mechanisms for beam management using SRS. For example, some embodiments provide mutual understanding of whether the SRS used for beam management is used for UE beam refinement or access node beam refinement. Some embodiments describe reducing the overhead and delay of downlink beam management by including an indication of SRS in a transmission configuration indication (TCI). Another problem that occurs is whether UE 108 should use the same beam to receive downlink signals or a refined (e.g., related) beam when SRS is indicated.

[0021] Some embodiments describe UL beam management for partial beam correspondence UEs.

[0022] In one embodiment, the access node 104 and the UE 108 may maintain the same understanding of whether the SRS resource or SRS resource set used for beam management is for access node beam refinement or UE beam refinement. In some embodiments, the access node 104 may transmit an indication of the beam to be used for the SRS resource to the UE 108 in the spatial relationship information. If the SRS resource or SRS resource set is used for access node beam refinement, the UE 108 may use the beam indicated by the spatial relationship information as a Tx beam to transmit the SRS resources in the SRS resource set; otherwise, the UE 108 may apply different beams in different SRS resources or symbols, and these different beams are related to the beam indicated by the spatial relationship information.

[0023] Figure 2 An operational flow / algorithm structure 200 is shown according to some embodiments. The operational flow / algorithm structure 200 may be performed by the UE 108 or a component thereof (eg, baseband circuitry).

[0024] The operation flow / algorithm structure 200 may include: at 204, reading the spatial relationship information configured for each SRS resource in the SRS resource set. As used herein, an SRS resource may be the location of an SRS in the time domain and the frequency domain. Factors defining the location and bandwidth of an SRS and concepts related to SRS resources and SRS resource sets may be defined in accordance with the description provided in the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Technical Specification (TS) 38.211v15.3.0 (2018-09-27). The spatial relationship information may be provided from the access node 104 to the UE 108. In some embodiments, the spatial relationship information may be provided in higher layer signaling, such as, but not limited to, radio resource control (RRC) or MAC CE signaling.

[0025] The operation flow / algorithm structure 200 may further include determining whether the spatial relationship information is the same or different for all SRS resources in the set at 208. Specifically, it may be determined whether the spatial domain filters to be used for the SRS resources in the SRS resource set are the same / different.

[0026] The spatial domain filter may be the same as the analog beamforming used by the UE. Based on the spatial relationship information indicated by the access node 104, the UE 108 may determine the spatial filter / analog beamforming to use for uplink transmissions. Thus, the signaled spatial relationship information may define the spatial filter / analog beamforming of the UE 108. The spatial relationship information signaling may include an identification of a reference signal used for analog beam acquisition.

[0027] If it is determined at 208 that the spatial relationship information is the same for all SRS resources in the group, then the operational flow / algorithm structure 200 may proceed to applying the transmit beam of the SRS resource associated with the beam indicated by the spatial relationship information for each SRS resource at 212. For example, consider that the SRS resource set includes SRS resources #0 and #1. If the spatial relationship information configures spatial domain filter #0 for both SRS resources #0 and #1 (e.g., the spatial domain filter corresponds to Figure 1 116), the UE 108 may determine a spatial domain filter #1 associated with the spatial domain filter #0 (eg, the spatial domain filter corresponding to Figure 1 Beam 120) should be used for transmission of SRS resources #0 and #1.

[0028] In some embodiments, UE 108 may use a different beam for the SRS resources if a different beam is associated with the indicated beam. Figure 1 If spatial domain filter #2 of beam 124 is also correlated with spatial domain filter #0, UE 108 may transmit SRS resource #0 using spatial domain filter #1 and transmit SRS resource #1 using spatial domain filter #2.

[0029] If it is determined at 208 that the spatial relationship information is different for all SRS resources in the set, the operational flow / algorithm structure 200 may proceed to apply the same transmit beam indicated by the spatial relationship information for each SRS resource of the set at 216. For example, assuming that the SRS resource set includes SRS resources #0-#1 as described above, and the spatial relationship information configures spatial domain filter #0 for SRS resource #0 and spatial domain filter #1 for SRS resource #1, the UE 108 may determine that spatial domain filter #0 should be used for transmission of SRS resource #0, and spatial domain filter #1 should be used for transmission of SRS resource #1.

[0030] The operation flow / algorithm structure 200 may be based on the assumption that the UE 108 expects all SRS resources in the set to be configured with the same spatial relationship information or different spatial relationship information. However, in some embodiments, the spatial relationship information may be the same only for a subset of SRS resources in the set. In these embodiments, the UE may apply the same Tx beam as indicated by the spatial relationship information to SRS resources with different spatial relationship information, and may apply the related Tx beam to the SRS resources of the subset with the same spatial relationship information.

[0031] Alternatively, if the spatial relationship information is the same only for a subset of SRS resources of the set, the UE 108 may apply the Tx beam associated with the beam indicated by the spatial relationship information to all SRS resources of the set. For example, consider that SRS resources #0-#3 are configured with spatial domain filter #0; and SRS resource #4 is configured with spatial domain filter #2. In this case, SRS resources #0-#3 may each be configured with spatial domain filter #1 associated with spatial domain filter #0, and SRS resource #4 may be configured with spatial domain filter #3 associated with spatial domain filter #2.

[0032] In some embodiments, the operational flow / algorithm structure 200 can be applied to SRS for beam management, codebook or non-codebook beam management, or antenna switching. In addition, in some embodiments, the operational flow / algorithm structure 200 can be applied to beam management using periodic, semi-persistent, or periodic SRS.

[0033] Some embodiments describe downlink beam management for partial beam correspondence UEs.

[0034] In some embodiments, the SRS may be indicated in a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state configured or indicated by control signaling (e.g., downlink control information (DCI), RRC, MACCE, etc.) for receiving downlink signals such as but not limited to CSI-RS, PDCCH, or PDSCH. Figure 3 Included is a timing diagram 300 showing an example of timing for SRS based TCI indications according to some embodiments.

[0035] UE 108 may sequentially transmit SRS resource #0 using multiple spatial domain filters (corresponding to transmit beams #1, #2, and #3) at 304, 308, and 312. At 316, access node 104 may transmit control signaling for receiving a downlink signal (e.g., PDCCH / PDSCH / CSI-RS). The control signaling may have or otherwise be configured to indicate a TCI state for SRS resource #0. In some embodiments, the TCI state may indicate a particular transmission of SRS resource #0 as the latest transmission of SRS resource #0 at least K slots / symbols prior to receiving the downlink signal. In some embodiments, K may be an integer based on UE capabilities. In this way, the TCI state may also provide an indication of transmit beam #2.

[0036] In the first option, when the spatial relationship information is based on a downlink reference signal, the UE 108 may use a receive beam associated with the indicated transmit beam, or a receive beam indicated by the spatial relationship information for the SRS. For example, if beam #4 is associated with beam #2, the UE 108 may use receive beam #4 to receive downlink transmissions from the access node 104. As another example, consider that an SSB or CSI-RS with a certain ID (e.g., ID=#1) is configured as a source reference signal in the spatial relationship information of an SRS resource with a certain ID (e.g., ID=#2). Such a spatial relationship may be used by the UE 108 as a reference transmit beam for SRS transmission, where a local beam is scanned around a beam acquired from a downlink based on the SSB or CSI-RS with the ID. If the SRS resource is also configured in the TCI state for another downlink signal (e.g., PDCCH / PDSCH), the QCL type D information (e.g., receive beamforming at the UE) used for reception of that DL signal (e.g., PDCCH / PDSCH) will be directly determined by the SSB or CSI-RS with this ID.

[0037] In a second option, the UE 108 may use the same receive beam as the indicated Tx beam. For example, the UE 108 may use receive beam #2 which is equal to transmit beam #2.

[0038] In some embodiments, whether UE 108 should use the first option or the second option may be predefined or determined by the corresponding downlink signal type or the configuration of the downlink signal. For example, in one embodiment, if CSI-RS repetition = on, the first option should be used, and for other cases, the second option should be used.

[0039] Figure 4 An operational flow / algorithm structure 400 is shown according to some embodiments. The operational flow / algorithm structure 400 may be performed by the UE 108 or a component thereof (eg, baseband circuitry within the UE 108).

[0040] The operational flow / algorithm structure 400 may include, at 404, determining spatial relationship information. The spatial relationship information may correspond to a CSI resource in a CSI resource set. In some embodiments, the spatial relationship information may include a spatial domain filter for each CSI resource in the CSI resource set. In some embodiments, the spatial relationship information may be provided to the UE 108 by one or more configuration messages from the access node 104.

[0041] The operational flow / algorithm structure 400 may also include, at 408, selecting a spatial transmit filter based on the determination of the spatial relationship information. In some embodiments, the spatial transmit filter for the SRS resource may be the spatial relationship information indicated for the SRS resource. In other embodiments, the spatial transmit filter for the SRS resource may be related to the spatial relationship information indicated for the SRS resource. The selection of the spatial transmit filter based on the determination of the spatial relationship information may be similar to the above reference to Figure 2 described.

[0042] The operational flow / algorithm structure 400 may also include, at 412, causing an uplink transmission to be transmitted using the spatial transmit filter selected at 408. In some embodiments, the uplink transmission may be, for example, a physical uplink control channel transmission, a physical uplink shared channel transmission, or the like.

[0052] In some embodiments, the RF circuit 555 may include multiple parallel RF chains or branches for one or more of transmit or receive functions; each chain or branch may be coupled to an antenna panel 575 .

[0053] In some embodiments, the protocol processing circuit 515 may include one or more instances of control circuits (not shown) to provide control functions for the digital baseband circuit 525 (or simply "baseband circuit 525"), the transmit circuit 535, the receive circuit 545, the RF circuit 555, the RFFE 565, and one or more antenna panels 575.

[0054] UE reception may be established by and via one or more antenna panels 575, RFFE 565, RF circuitry 555, receive circuitry 545, digital baseband circuitry 525, and protocol processing circuitry 515. [0057] Cell transmission can be established by and via the protocol processing circuit 520, the digital baseband circuit 530, the transmit circuit 540, the RF circuit 560, the RFFE 570, and one or more antenna panels 580. The transmit component of the UE 505 can apply a spatial filter to the data to be transmitted to form a transmit beam transmitted by the antenna elements of the one or more antenna panels 580.

[0058] In some embodiments, the UE 505 and AN 510 may include beamforming circuitry disposed in corresponding transmit / receive circuitry, RF circuitry, or RFFE, which may be used to manage transmit / receive beamforming communications as described herein.

[0059] Beam management refers to a set of L1 / L2 processes that acquire and maintain a set of transmit / receive points (TRP or TRxP) and / or UE beams that can be used for DL and UL transmission / reception. Beam management includes various operations or processes, such as beam determination, beam management, beam reporting, and beam scanning operations / processes. Beam determination refers to the ability of a TRxP or UE to select its own Tx / Rx beam. Beam measurement refers to the ability of a TRP or UE to measure the characteristics of a received beamforming signal. Beam reporting refers to the ability of a UE to report information about a beamforming signal based on beam measurements. Beam scanning refers to the operation of transmitting and / or receiving a beam covering a spatial area during a time interval in a predetermined manner.

[0060] The Tx / Rx beam correspondence at the TRxP holds if at least one of the following conditions is satisfied: The TRxP can determine the TRxP Rx beam for uplink reception based on the UE's downlink measurements on one or more Tx beams of the TRxP; and the TRxP can determine the TRxP Tx beam for downlink transmission based on the TRxP's uplink measurements on one or more Rx beams of the TRxP. The Tx / Rx beam correspondence at the UE holds if at least one of the following is satisfied: The UE can determine the UE Tx beam for uplink transmission based on the UE's downlink measurements on one or more Rx beams of the UE; the UE can determine the UE Rx beam for downlink reception based on the indication from the TRxP (based on the UE's uplink measurements on one or more Tx beams); and the ability indication for UE beam correspondence related information of the TRxP is supported.

[0061] In some specific embodiments, DL beam management includes process P-1, process P-2, and process P-3. Process P-1 is used to implement UE measurements on different TRxP Tx beams, thereby supporting the selection of the TRxP Tx beam / UE Rx beam. For beamforming at the TRxP, process P-1 generally includes intra-TRxP / inter-TRxP Tx beam scanning from different beam sets. For beamforming at the UE, process P-1 generally includes UE Rx beam scanning from different beam sets.

[0062] Process P-2 is used to implement UE measurements on different TRxP Tx beams, thereby possibly changing the inter-TRxP / intra-TRxP Tx beam. Process P-2 can be a special case of process P-1, where process P-2 is used for a potentially smaller set of beams for beam refinement than process P-1. Process P-3 is used to implement UE measurements on the same TRxP Tx beam when the UE uses beamforming, thereby changing the UE Rx beam. Processes P-1, P-2, and P-3 can be used for aperiodic beam reporting.

[0063] The UE measurements based on the RS (at least CSI-RS) for beam management are composed of K beams (where K is the total number of configured beams), and the UE reports the measurement results of N selected Tx beams (where N may or may not be a fixed number). The RS-based process for mobility purposes is not excluded. If N < K, the beam information to be reported includes the measurements of the N beams and the information indicating the N DL Tx beams. Other information or data may be included in or included together with the beam information. When the UE is configured with K'> 1 non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resources, the UE may report N' CSI-RS resource indicators (CRIs).

[0064] The UE may trigger a mechanism for recovering from a beam failure, which is referred to as "beam recovery", "beam failure recovery request procedure", etc. A beam failure event may occur when the quality of the beam pair link of the associated control channel drops below a threshold, when an associated timer times out, etc. When a beam failure occurs, the beam recovery mechanism is triggered. The network may explicitly configure resources for UL transmission of signals for the UE for recovery purposes. Configuration of resources is supported in the case where a base station (e.g., TRP, gNB, etc.) monitors from all or some directions (e.g., random access area). The UL transmission / resource for reporting a beam failure may be located in the same time instance as the physical random access channel (PRACH) or resources orthogonal to the PRACH resources, or at a time instance different from the PRACH (configurable for the UE). Transmission of DL signals is supported to allow the UE to monitor beams for identifying new potential beams.

[0065] For beam failure recovery, if one, multiple, or all serving PDCCH beams fail, a beam failure may be indicated. If a beam failure is indicated, a beam failure recovery request procedure is initiated. For example, when a beam failure is detected on a serving SSB / CSI-RS, the beam failure recovery request procedure may be used to indicate a serving gNB (or TRP) for a new SSB or CSI-RS. A beam failure may be detected by lower layers and indicated to the UE's media access control (MAC) entity.

[0066] Beam management also includes providing or not providing beam-related indications.
