Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a sunscreen or daily care composition comprising diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, at least one organic particulate UV filter and at least one UV filter selected from triazine derivatives, wherein the composition does not contain octocrylene. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of said composition to reduce fabric staining and to promote the washability of the sunscreen or daily care composition.

[0002] UV radiation causes harmful effects on human skin. In addition to the acute effect of skin sunburn, UV radiation is also known to increase the risk of skin cancer. In addition, prolonged exposure to UV-A and UV-B light may cause phototoxic and photoallergic reactions on the skin and may accelerate skin aging.

[0003] In order to protect human skin from UV radiation, there are various sunscreen UV filters (also referred to as UV absorbers), including UV-A filters, UV-B filters and broadband filters. These filters are added to sunscreen or cosmetic compositions. UV filters are organic or inorganic granular or non-granular compounds, which all have high absorption efficacy within the UV light range. UV light can be divided into UV-A radiation and UV-B radiation generally. Depending on the position of the absorption maximum, UV filters are divided into UV-A and UV-B filters. In the case where a UV filter absorbs both UV-A and UV-B light, it is referred to as a broadband absorber.

[0004] Since 2006, the European Commission has recommended that all sunscreen or cosmetic compositions should have a UV-A protection factor which is at least one third of the labeled sun protection factor (SPF), which primarily relates to UV-B protection.

[0005] However, the UV filters known in the prior art for use in sunscreen or cosmetic compositions have some disadvantages. This refers in particular to the disadvantages of certain UV filters, which are often discussed due to their health and environmental concerns, despite their approval for use in sunscreen or cosmetic compositions. The UV filters in question are, for example, octocrylene, homosalate or ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate.

[0006] There is therefore a need for sunscreen or cosmetic compositions for daily use which are effective for sun protection in the UV-B and UV-A range but do not contain the UV filters in question.

[0007] EP 2 837 407 A2 discloses odor-stable, octocrylene-free cosmetic compositions comprising one or more UV filters selected from triazine derivatives, titanium dioxide, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane and / or diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, wherein the composition is free of ethylhexyl salicylate, octocrylene, homomenhydrinate salicylate and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate.

[0008] EP 3 093 008 A1 relates to a sunscreen composition which is free of octocrylene and comprises diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid and one or more salicylates selected from ethylhexyl salicylate and homosalate.

[0012] EP 3 351 236 A1 relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a UV filter combination of diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane and polyglycerol fatty acid esters, wherein the composition is free of 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, oxybenzophenone, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate and octocrylene.

[0013] EP 3 354 253 A2 describes the use of diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate in cosmetic preparations for reducing soiling of textiles.

[0014] US 2003 / 0161793 A1 discloses a topically administrable cosmetic / dermatological sunscreen composition which does not contain any p-methylbenzylidene camphor but contains at least one UV-screening dibenzoylmethane compound and at least one UV-screening amino-substituted 2-hydroxybenzophenone compound of formula (I).

[0068] Before describing preferred embodiments of the present invention in detail, definitions important for understanding the present invention are given.

[0069] As used in this specification and the appended claims, the singular forms of "a" and "an" also include the corresponding plural forms, unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. In the context of the present invention, the terms "about" and "approximately" represent the precision intervals that a person skilled in the art understands to still ensure the technical effect of the described features. The term generally means a difference of ±20%, preferably ±15%, more preferably ±10%, and even more preferably ±5% from the numerical value shown. It should be understood that the term "comprising" is not restrictive. For the purposes of the present invention, the term "consisting of..." is considered to be a preferred embodiment of the term "comprising". If a group is defined below as comprising at least a certain number of embodiments, this is intended to also include a group that is preferably composed only of these embodiments.

[0070] Furthermore, the terms "first," "second," "third," or "(i)," "(ii)," "(iii)," "(iv)," and the like in the description and claims are used to distinguish between similar elements and not necessarily to describe a sequential or chronological order. It is to be understood that the terms so used are interchangeable under appropriate circumstances and that the embodiments of the invention described herein are capable of operation in other sequences than described or illustrated herein.

[0071] As used herein, the term "free of" in the context of a composition according to the invention not containing a specific compound or a specific group of compounds that may be combined under a collective term means that the composition does not contain said compound or said group of compounds in an amount greater than 0.8% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition. Furthermore, it is preferred that the composition according to the invention does not contain said compound or said group of compounds in an amount greater than 0.5% by weight, preferably the composition does not contain said compound or said group of compounds at all. The same definition applies to the term "free of".

[0072] The term "sunscreen composition" relates to any topical product that reflects and / or absorbs a certain portion of the UV radiation. Thus, the term "sunscreen composition" is to be understood as including not only sunscreen compositions, but also any cosmetic composition that provides UV protection. The term "topical product" relates to a product that is applied to the skin and may, for example, relate to a spray, a lotion, a cream, an oil or a gel. The sunscreen composition may comprise one or more active agents, such as organic or inorganic UV filters, and other ingredients or additives, such as emulsifiers, emollients, viscosity modifiers, stabilizers, preservatives or fragrances.

Emollients generally prevent the evaporation of water from the skin by forming an occlusive coating. They can be divided into different groups depending on their polarity index.

[0090] The term "polarity index" relates to non-polar or polar oils. Non-polar oils are mainly based on hydrocarbons and lack electronegative elements, such as oxygen. In contrast, polar oils contain heteroatoms of varying electronegativity, which generate a dipole moment. However, such oils are still insoluble in water, i.e. hydrophobic. The polarity index can be determined by measuring the interfacial tension between the respective oil and water.

[0091] The term "benzoic acid C 12 -C 15 "Alkyl esters" involve benzoic acid and C 12 -C 15 Alkyl chain fatty alcohol esters. 12 -C 15 An alkyl chain is defined as having C 12 , C 13 , C 14 or C 15 The length of the alkyl chain.

[0092] The definition of "broadband" protection (also called broad spectrum or extensive protection) is based on a "critical wavelength". For broadband coverage, UV-B and UV-A protection must be provided. According to US requirements, a critical wavelength of at least 370 nm is required to achieve broad spectrum protection. In addition, the European Commission recommends that all sunscreen or cosmetic compositions should have a UVA protection factor that is at least one third of the labeled sun protection factor (SPF), e.g. if a sunscreen composition has an SPF of 30, the UVA protection factor must be at least 10.

[0093] The term "fabric staining" as used herein relates to the observation that sunscreen compositions, especially those that provide good UV-A protection, leave yellow stains on textiles. This is undesirable because the sunscreen compositions typically come into contact with textiles during or after application to human skin, resulting in stains being observed on textiles. Fabric staining can be measured by L*a*b as described in detail below.

[0094] The term "washability" as used herein describes the extent to which stains caused by a sunscreen composition on a textile can be removed from the textile after a certain number of washing cycles. To evaluate washability, the staining of the fabric is measured before and after one or more washing cycles. The washing cycles are carried out with a commercial liquid washing gel at a temperature of 30-50°C. The difference in fabric staining is usually determined after 1-3 washing cycles.

[0187] In terms of the preferred embodiments above, it is understood that free of means that the composition does not contain a substance or a combination thereof as defined above. In particular, it is understood that the composition does not contain a substance or a combination thereof as defined above in a total amount greater than 0.8% based on the total weight of the composition. In addition, it is understood that the composition does not contain a substance or a combination thereof as defined above in a total amount greater than 0.5% by weight.

[0188] In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the sunscreen or day care composition comprises no substances or combinations thereof as defined above at all.

[0189] In one embodiment of the present invention, the sunscreen or day care composition as defined above further comprises at least one emollient having a polarity index <30 mN / m.

[0190] In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the sunscreen or day care composition as defined above further comprises at least one emollient having a polarity index <30 mN / m selected from:

[0191] - Esters of linear or branched fatty acids and linear or branched fatty alcohols;

[0192] - Esters of aromatic carboxylic acids with linear or branched fatty alcohols;

[0193] - esters of di- and tricarboxylic acids with linear or branched alcohols;

[0194] - Esters of hydroxycarboxylic acids with linear or branched fatty alcohols;

[0195] - Esters of linear or branched fatty acids with polyols;

[0196] -C6-C 18 Fatty acid based mono-, di- and triglycerides;

[0197] -Guerbet alcohol.

[0198] In a more preferred embodiment of the present invention, the sunscreen or day care composition as defined above further comprises at least one emollient having a polarity index <30 mN / m, selected from benzoic acid C 12 -C 15 Alkyl Esters, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate / Dicaprate, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate / Dicaprate, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Octyldodecanol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Isopropyl Myristate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Phenethyl Benzoate, Dibutyl Adipate, Diisopropyl Adipate, Triethyl Citrate, and Tributyl Citrate.

[0199] In a preferred embodiment, the sunscreen or daily care composition comprises the at least one emollient in an amount of 1-20% by weight, preferably 2-15% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition. It should be understood that these amounts relate to each individual emollient in the sunscreen or daily care composition. Therefore, each individual emollient in the sunscreen or daily care composition is preferably present in an amount of 1-20% by weight, preferably 2-15% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition. If two or more emollients are present in the sunscreen or daily care composition, the total amount of emollients may preferably be in the range of 1-35% by weight, preferably 2-25% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition.

[0200] With regard to the above preferred embodiment regarding the addition of the at least one emollient having a polarity index <30 mN / m, the inventors of the present invention surprisingly found that the addition of at least one emollient as defined above improves the solubility properties and the effectiveness of the UV filters as defined above in octocrylene-free sunscreen or day care compositions. In this context, it is understood that the wavelength of the maximum absorption value (λmax) is an indicator describing the effectiveness of the UV filter molecule. It gives the wavelength at which the absorption value is maximum.

[0201] In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the sunscreen or day care composition has a UV-A protection which is at least one third of the sun protection factor as defined above. For example, if the sun protection factor of a sunscreen composition is 30, the UV-A protection of a given sunscreen composition must be at least 10. In particular with regard to UVA protection, the sunscreen or day care composition comprises:

[0202] (i) 2-[4-(Diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoic acid hexyl ester (INCI Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate); and

[0203] (ii) 2,2'-methylenebis[6-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol] (INCI methylenebis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol, MBBT), 2,4,6-tris(biphenyl-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (INCI terphenyl triazine, TBPT); and

[0204] (iii) tris(2-ethylhexyl)-4,4',4"-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyltriimino)tribenzoate (INCI Ethylhexyl Triazone, EHT), 2,4-di{[4-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-2-hydroxy]phenyl}-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (INCI Diethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, BEMT);

[0205] Wherein the composition does not contain ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI Octocrylene).

[0206] With regard to the above preferred embodiments concerning a UV-A protection of at least one third of the sun protection factor as defined above, the inventors of the present invention surprisingly found that the presence of the organic particulate UV filter 2,4,6-tris(biphenyl-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (INCI terphenyl triazine, TBPT) in a sunscreen composition as defined above increases the sun protection factor while providing a UV-A protection of at least one third of the sun protection factor (SPF). In other words, this means that the presence of the organic particulate UV filter terphenyl triazine increases the SPF without unbalancing the absorbance in the UV-A region and thus providing a UV-A protection of at least one third of the sun protection factor.

[0207] In addition, with respect to the above preferred embodiments regarding UVA protection, it should be understood that the UVA protection of a sunscreen or daily care composition can be further determined by using the so-called Boots star rating system. This method requires measuring the transmittance of ultraviolet (UV) radiation through a sunscreen product over the entire Earth's UV range before and after exposure to a fixed dose of simulated sunlight UV. For each sunscreen product tested, two separate UVA:UVB ratios need to be calculated. The measurement of the initial UVA:UVB absorbance ratio requires measuring the transmittance through the sunscreen sample at least 15 minutes and no more than 30 minutes after the sunscreen sample is applied to the substrate. The second UVA:UVB absorbance ratio measurement is a post-absorbance measurement that takes into account any photodegradation of the UV filters of the sunscreen sample. Therefore, a sunscreen sample with an initial UVA:UVB ratio is exposed to a fixed dose of 17.5 J / cm 2 UV radiation. The total irradiance (290-400nm) is 45-90W / m 2 ; UVA (320-400nm) irradiance is 90-97% of the total irradiance. This dose is roughly related to the sunlight UV dose that may fall on an unshaded horizontal surface when exposed to midsummer noon sunlight for 1 hour. The photostability of the sunscreen product is further defined as at least 95% retention of the initial UVA:UVB ratio. If less than 5% degradation is observed, the sunscreen product is sufficiently photostable and is marked with the initial UVA:UVB ratio. Conversely, if the UVA:UVB ratio decreases by more than 5%, the product is marked with the post-exposure UVA:UVB ratio. The star rating rate is further assigned based on the initial and post-exposure UVA:UVB ratios and is 3-5 stars.

[0208] Therefore, in a particularly preferred embodiment, the present invention relates to a sunscreen composition comprising:

[0209] (i) diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate; and

[0210] (ii) diethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine; and

[0211] (iii) ethylhexyl triazone; and

[0212] (iv) methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol and / or terphenyl triazine, wherein the sunscreen composition has an in vitro Boots rating UVA:UVB ratio of 17.5 J / cm 2 The UV irradiation before is at least 0.9 and at 17.5 J / cm 2 After UV irradiation, it was 0.86.

[0213] For the purposes of the present invention, in particular for the first and second embodiments, the following preferences with regard to the UV filters are relevant with regard to the above-listed embodiments of the invention.

With regard to the above preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that combinations of organic particulate UV filters are also possible if two or more organic particulate UV filters are present, for example a combination of methylenebis-benzotriazolyltetramethylbutylphenol and terphenyl triazine.

[0222] If a combination of two organic particulate UV filters is present, the following combinations are individually preferred:

[0223] - methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (MBBT) and terphenyl triazine (TBPT);

[0234] In a preferred embodiment, the sunscreen or daily care composition comprises the at least one organic particulate UV filter in an amount of 0.5-10% by weight, preferably 1-5% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition. It should be understood that these amounts relate to each individual organic particulate UV filter in the sunscreen or daily care composition. Therefore, each individual organic particulate UV filter in the sunscreen or daily care composition is preferably present in an amount of 0.5-10% by weight, preferably 1-5% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition. If two or more organic particulate UV filters are present in the sunscreen or daily care composition, the total amount of organic particulate UV filters may preferably be in the range of 1-30% by weight, preferably 3-30% by weight, based on the total weight of the sunscreen or daily care composition.

[0235] It is to be understood that the above preferred embodiments relate to the at least one organic particulate UV filter being present in the sunscreen or day care composition in addition to 2-[4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoic acid hexyl ester (INCI Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate) and the at least one UV filter chosen from triazine derivatives.

[0315] With regard to the preferred and particularly preferred embodiments above, it will be understood that the sunscreen or day care composition is preferably present in the form of an emulsion in its final formulation. Preferred emulsions of the present invention include W / O, O / W, O / W / O, W / O / W or PIT emulsions.

[0316] For the purposes of the present invention, the following preferences are relevant with regard to the use of a sunscreen composition according to an embodiment as defined above to reduce fabric staining and / or to improve the washability of the sunscreen or day care composition on textiles.

[0317] As indicated above, the present invention relates in one embodiment to the use of a sunscreen or day care composition as defined above, especially as defined in relation to the first and second embodiments, in the form of an emulsion for reducing fabric staining of the sunscreen or day care composition.

[0318] The fabric staining caused by the sunscreen composition is preferably measured by the so-called L*a*b method. With this method, the color difference between two samples can be determined based on numerical values. The advantage of this method is that it does not rely on a device for measuring color. On the contrary, the color difference can be determined based on the numerical values of different colors. As used herein, the color difference between the sunscreen composition stain on the textile and the textile alone is measured to determine the fabric staining of the sunscreen composition. Therefore, different sunscreen compositions and their fabric staining performance can be measured by the color of their stain on the textile and the color of the textile alone. The lower the color difference, the smaller the observed fabric staining. Similarly, the color difference between the sunscreen composition stain on the textile and the textile alone after one or more washing cycles can be measured to determine the potential reduction of fabric staining after washing, i.e., washability. The color difference is displayed in absolute color coordinates and can be referred to as Δ. First, the color of the two samples is measured. Then, using the resulting chromaticity values, the CIE L*a*b coordinates calculate the difference. The L*a*b color space defined by the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) is modeled according to the color antagonism theory. This theory states that two colors cannot be both red and green or both yellow and blue. Use the following formula to determine the total color difference between the two samples:

[0319] ΔE*=[ΔL*2+Δa*2+Δb*2]1 / 2

[0320] In this context, L* denotes lightness, a* is the red / green coordinate and b* is the yellow / blue coordinate. The delta values of L* (ΔL*), a* (Δa*) and b* (Δb*) can be positive or negative. The total difference given as ΔE* is always positive.

[0321] ΔL*(L*Sample 1 - L*Sample 2) = difference in lightness and darkness (+ lighter, - darker).

[0322] Δa*(a*sample 1 - a*sample 2) = difference between red and green (+ redder, - greener).

[0323] Δb*(b*sample 1 - b*sample 2) = difference in yellow and green (+ more yellow, - more green).

[0324] ΔE* = total color difference.

[0325] To determine fabric staining according to the invention, the color of the stain on the textile is compared with the color of the textile alone. Preferably a white textile is used. In the case where the stain is only yellow, Therein, the visibility of the sunscreen composition stain is represented by Δb*. Since the color of the sunscreen composition stain is generally yellow, ΔE* is considered to be the same as Δb* for the purposes of the present invention.

[0326] In another embodiment, the present invention relates to the use of a sunscreen or day care composition as defined above, especially as defined with respect to the first and second embodiments, in the form of an emulsion to improve the washability of the sunscreen or day care composition on textiles.

[0327] As used herein, washability relates to the extent to which a sunscreen composition stain on a textile can be removed by washing. The washability, i.e., removability, of a sunscreen composition stain can be determined by measuring the color difference of the stain according to the above-mentioned L*a*b* method before and after one or more washing cycles.

[0328] With regard to the above embodiments, it will be appreciated that the following sunscreen or daily care compositions are preferred with respect to reducing fabric staining and promoting washability of the sunscreen or daily care compositions on textiles.

[0329] In one embodiment of the use according to the invention, the sunscreen or daily care composition comprises:

[0330] (i) 2-[4-(Diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoic acid hexyl ester (INCI Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate); and

[0331] (ii) at least one organic particulate UV filter, wherein the at least one organic particulate UV filter is preferably 2,2'-methylenebis[6-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol] (INCI METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYL PHENOL); and

[0332] (iii) at least one UV filter selected from triazine derivatives;

[0333] Wherein the composition does not contain ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate (INCI Octocrylene).

[0334] In this regard, it is understood that the at least one UV filter chosen from triazine derivatives is as defined above. Furthermore, it is understood that the composition as defined above preferably does not comprise 2-ethylhexyl (2E)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)acrylate (INCI ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMIC ACID ESTER) and does not contain parabens.

[0335] The present invention is further illustrated by the following examples. Example

The second UVA:UVB absorbance ratio measurement is a post-absorbance measurement that takes into account any photodegradation of the UV filters of the sunscreen sample. Therefore, the sunscreen sample with the initial UVA:UVB ratio is exposed to a fixed dose of 17.5 J / cm2. 2 UV radiation. The UVA:UVB ratio before and after irradiation is as follows and Figure 1 Displayed in.

However, composition 3 of the present invention, which contained methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (nano) instead of diethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, exhibited significant reduction in fabric staining.

[0368] Measurement of interfacial tension (polarity index)

[0369] The interfacial tension of the corresponding emollients listed below was measured using Tensimat Densimat TD2000.

[0370] Table 6.1

[0371]

[0372] UV filter performance

[0373] The wavelength of the maximum absorption value (λmax) is an indicator of the effect of a UV filter molecule. It gives the wavelength at which the absorption value is maximum. For UVA filters, the wavelength of the maximum absorption value should be close to 359 nm, which corresponds to the top of the PPD (permanent tanning) effect spectrum. The PPD effect spectrum corresponds to the product of the PPD (permanent tanning) action spectrum and the light intensity (see ISO 24443).

[0374] UV / Vis spectrophotometer Perkin Elmer Lambda 25 was used to measure the UV transmission spectrum of each DHHB-emollient mixture from 290nm to 400nm. For each mixture, 3 concentrations of stock solutions of 1mM DHHB were prepared. In addition, three dilutions of each stock solution were prepared so that each DHHB-emollient solution had 9 measurements in total. All solutions were then filled in a UV transparent quartz cuvette of 1cm optical path length to measure UV transmittance.

[0377]

[0378] Solubility measurements

[0379] 0.02 g of UV filter was added to 2 ml of the corresponding emollient shown below, which was pre-filled in a 20 ml capped vial. The vial was placed in a thermostatic water bath (25° C.) and the blend was stirred for 7 days. If the UV filter tested was completely soluble, additional filter was added until precipitation was observed. After 7 days, the sample was centrifuged at 13000 rpm for 30 minutes. If the supernatant was turbid, it was filtered through a 0.2 μm non-sterile Membrex 25PET filter. Each sample was diluted with a suitable solvent before measurement or measured in a quartz cuvette with a 1 cm optical path length without further dilution in the case of lower concentrations. The concentration of the UV filter was then determined by UV / Vis spectroscopy using a Perkin Elmer Lambda 20 device (according to Method A in Herzog B., Giesinger J., Schnyder M., SOFW Journal, 2013, 139 (7), pages 7-14).
