Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present application relates to a dry powder composition. More specifically, the present application relates to a dry powder composition comprising cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and a method of treating human / animal hair and skin using the dry powder composition. Background Art

[0002] Regular washing of hair locks is carried out with traditional liquid or gel shampoos and then rinsed with water. Frequent hair washing requires a large amount of water. In the absence or shortage of water, it becomes difficult to wash hair, hair locks or skin, and frequent washing of hair or skin with water can make the hair or skin dry and damaged. As an alternative, dry shampoo can be used. When the dry shampoo is sprayed on the hair or skin, the carrier evaporates, and the dust or sebum on the hair or skin is absorbed by the powder, and the powder can be removed by simply brushing off or wiping over the scalp or gently rubbing the skin. This saves water, is more convenient for the user, and provides the consumer with cleaner and better-feeling hair and skin.

[0003] U.S. Patent No. US9,801,793 assigned to HERB UK Ltd. discloses a product comprising a dry shampoo composition and a spray bottle containing rice husk powder, montmorillonite clay, tapioca starch, corn starch and potato starch.

[0006] It has been observed that alumina and activated carbon are used in dry shampoo powders. However, they are ineffective. Disadvantages include residual residues, an ashy appearance, stickiness, etc.

[0007] In view of the above, there is still a need in the relevant art for an effective dry shampoo that: (i) helps to remove oil and sebum from hair locks, (ii) is harmless and convenient for users including bedridden patients and travelers, and (iii) can maintain the lubricating properties of hair locks. [0099]

[0100] Add water to the main container and start mixing. Add PVP and mix until evenly distributed. Add the remaining ingredients (ethyl ester of PVM / MA copolymer (50% ethanol solution), aminomethylpropanol (95%), guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, polyimide 1 (30% aqueous solution), cetrimonium chloride, lactic acid, PPG-2 hydroxyethyl cocamide, oleth-20, ammonia-terminated polydimethylsiloxane / cetrimonium chloride / trideceth-10, dicetyldimethylammonium chloride, phenoxyethanol and caprylyl glycol, and glycerin / glycerol acrylate / acrylic acid copolymer) separately, mixing until homogeneous after each addition. A leave-on volumizing shampoo is obtained.

[0103]

[0104] Formulate the dry powder composition into a whipped cream. The method involves adding the different ingredients provided in the table above in batches.

[0105] Example 10: Effect of Particle Size on Hair Properties

[0106] Test parameters of hair properties such as cleanliness, residue, combability, and gloss. Test average particle sizes of 4 μm and 11 μm relative to a baseline average particle size of 25 μm. Figure 1 Details are provided. It was observed that crosslinked PVP with a DV50 particle size in the range of 15 μm to 120 μm provided improved performance relative to the range of 4 μm to 11 μm. This was determined by evaluating hair treated with sebum and then with the crosslinked PVP material. The range of 15 μm to 120 μm DV50 provided less residue, improved hair color and gloss, as well as overall cleanliness and ease of combing.

[0107] Example 11: Comparison of Hair Properties with Commercially Available Samples

[0108] The dry powder containing PVP provides improved cleaning and hair condition, as evidenced by less fiber clumping and residue, and improved manageability, shine, and color perception. A technique called hyperspectral imaging was used, which collects data in the visible spectrum and analyzes the light background and color intensity of mannequin heads before and after treatment with sebum and dry shampoo. The dry powder containing PVP restores the shine and color levels of the hair to near the untreated (before) state. Details are provided in Figure 2 and Figure 3 are provided.

[0109] Example 12: Sorption Data

[0110] Measurement results were obtained by weighing a fixed amount of material and slowly adding sebum at elevated temperature. The mixture was observed to change from a sticky (Taffy) and cohesive phase (solid-like) to a liquid-like phase with free sebum. The sorption capacity was determined by the amount of sebum adsorbed before transitioning to the liquid-like system. Compared to starch-based materials, PVP absorbs / adsorbs more than 4 times the amount of sebum. Details are as Figure 4 provided.

[0111] Example 13: Acoustics of Combability

[0112] Acoustic analysis of combability over a wide frequency range of typical human hearing shows that the dry powder containing PVP provides lower decibels and a smaller frequency range compared to commercially available controls containing starch-based materials - and improved fiber alignment and less residue / drag are observed through the hair. Details are as Figure 5 provided.
