Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to edge gate nozzles and associated injection molds for injection molding plastics and other thermoplastic materials. Background Art

[0002] From the prior art, it is known that a side gate nozzle comprises a plurality of nozzle tips. The nozzle tips are in fluid communication with a common nozzle block, and the nozzle tips in the side gate nozzle are usually arranged laterally relative to the general direction of the side gate nozzle. The nozzle block is arranged upstream relative to the melt flow direction. The nozzle tips arranged downstream relative to the melt flow direction are respectively interconnected with a cavity, which is suitable for receiving molten plastic material via the nozzle tips during production. When the nozzle tip and the nozzle block interconnected therewith are maintained at a temperature above the melting temperature of the plastic material, the tool plate with at least one cavity arranged therebetween is maintained at a temperature significantly below the melting temperature of the plastic material, so that the plastic material injected into the cavity solidifies immediately upon contact with the cavity wall to effectively form a plastic part. The overall construction of the side gate nozzle must be carried out in such a way that the geometric deformations occurring due to different temperatures and changes during heating and operation have no negative impact on the overall system and performance. In addition, it is advantageous that, for example for maintenance reasons, when the nozzle tip can be easily removed, respectively detached from the associated cavity, it is necessary to ensure the precise alignment of the nozzle tip. From the prior art, it is known that there are various attempts to solve the above-mentioned problems. The selection is briefly described below.

The injection manifold assembly includes a plurality of melt outlets and a plurality of biasing components, wherein each melt outlet is fluidly connected to a corresponding mold cavity, and the plurality of biasing components are arranged along the center line of the injection manifold assembly. A nozzle seal is arranged between each injection manifold assembly melt outlet and its corresponding mold cavity. Each biasing component is arranged between a pair of melt outlets and a corresponding nozzle seal, and is used to bias the melt outlet and the nozzle seal outward from the center line of the injection manifold assembly toward its corresponding mold cavity, and to apply a preload thereto. Summary of the invention

[0009] Different from the prior art, the edge gate nozzle according to the present disclosure generally includes a supply block, a distribution block and a nozzle block connected to each other in the axial direction. According to the application field, at least the distribution block and the nozzle block can be integrally formed.

[0010] The nozzle block typically comprises at least one nozzle recess extending in an outward direction. At least one nozzle insert is arranged in the nozzle recess, the nozzle insert comprising at least one nozzle tip. The nozzle block may comprise a plurality of nozzle inserts, each nozzle insert being arranged in a respective nozzle recess or in a common nozzle recess. If present, the nozzle inserts are preferably arranged in the same horizontal plane relative to the generally axial direction.

[0011] The at least one nozzle insert in the mounted state is preferably held at least in the axial direction by a fixing screw which is directly interconnected with the nozzle block. A more precise adjustment is thus possible. Good results can be achieved when the fixing screw expands at least partially across the nozzle recess. In a preferred variant, the diameter of the fixing screw is greater than the diameter of the nozzle recess in the transverse direction.

[0012] The fixing screw usually interacts with an internal thread, which is preferably arranged at two opposite side walls of the nozzle recess. Thus, undesired movements (e.g. lifting) can be safely prevented, although other adjustments in the lateral direction and / or in the direction of the nozzle (e.g. due to thermal expansion) are still possible if necessary.

[0013] If present, the cover plate can be mechanically interconnected with the nozzle block and the mold plate of the injection mold in which the edge gate nozzle is arranged to compensate for torque when setting the fixing screws. The cover plate preferably comprises an opening, which is arranged coaxially with the fixing screws arranged below, thereby allowing access to the fixing screws in the installed state. In some cases, the fixing screws can be arranged in a cover plate, which is arranged above the nozzle insert.

[0014] For each nozzle tip, the nozzle insert comprises an inlet opening which is pressed against an outlet opening by a fixing screw, the outlet opening being arranged at the bottom of the nozzle recess. When the fixing screw is arranged concentrically with respect to the outlet opening, a good sealing performance is achieved between the inlet opening and the outlet opening of the nozzle insert, because the applied pressure can be evenly distributed in this way.

[0015] At least one nozzle tip attached to the nozzle insert preferably points in a corresponding outward direction similar to the recess.Depending on the field of application, two or more nozzle tips may be attached to a common nozzle insert.

[0016] Depending on the field of application, the nozzle block can have a cylindrical or cuboid shape, depending on the arrangement of the nozzle insert, the respective nozzle tip and their interconnection with the associated cavity.

[0017] For assembly and / or maintenance, the nozzle insert can be arranged displaceably in the nozzle recess relative to the outward direction. Thus, it is possible to interconnect the nozzle insert in a slidable manner relative to the cavity.

[0018] In addition, the nozzle block may include at least one guide groove in the outward direction, into which a pin-shaped retaining device, usually attached to the nozzle insert, engages, and the pin-shaped retaining device limits the movement of the nozzle insert in the outward direction. The retaining device may be integrally formed with the nozzle insert, or designed as a separate element attached to the nozzle insert. The guide groove may be arranged, for example, at least partially at the wall of the nozzle recess. During operation, preferably, the nozzle insert is supported by a spacer (first spacer) in the outward direction opposite to the direction of the melt flow. The spacer can be removably attached to the nozzle block and / or the distribution block. The first spacer may be at least partially composed of a material having a smaller thermal expansion coefficient than the material of the nozzle block, however, various materials are also possible, such as steel or titanium alloys. In the opposite direction, during operation, the nozzle insert is held by a pin-shaped retaining device in contact with the end portion of the guide groove in the direction of the melt flow. If appropriate, the pin-shaped retaining device may have a rectangular cross section so as to contact the correspondingly formed end portion of the guide groove in a planar manner, thereby preventing the misalignment of the nozzle tip relative to the cavity.

[0019] In some variations, the spacer may be formed as a hollow cylinder or a beam. The spacer may be attached to the nozzle block and / or the distributor block by at least one screw.

[0020] Good results are possible when the spacer supports the nozzle insert via the contact surface in an elastically pretensioned manner in the outward direction, i.e. against a spring force. This can be achieved by designing the spacer as a spring, for example by forming the spacer as a hollow cylinder which comprises a slit in the axial direction, thereby allowing a spring-like displacement of the hollow cylinder wall in the radial outward direction, thus elastically supporting the nozzle insert during operation and / or assembly.

[0021] In some variants, at least two nozzle inserts are arranged adjacent to each other. If appropriate, their lateral position can be defined by a second spacer, which can be arranged to be laterally movable. Preferably, the second spacer at least partially consists of a material having a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the nozzle block.

[0022] When the first spacer and / or the second spacer is made of a material having a low thermal expansion coefficient, such as Invar alloy When made, good results can be achieved.

[0023] The cover plate of the side gate nozzle may include at least one alignment through hole in the axial direction to temporarily connect the cover plate to the nozzle block in a torsion-resistant manner in the installed state. The nozzle block may include at least one opening, which is preferably coaxially aligned with the associated through hole of the cover plate in the assembled state. A temporary torsion-resistant connection can be established between the cover plate and the nozzle block by inserting an elongated connecting device into the through hole and extending into the opening. The connecting device provides a torsion-resistant connection between the cover plate and the nozzle block by forming a shape fit with the through hole and / or the opening. If appropriate, in particular when having a rotationally symmetrical shape, the side gate nozzle can be interconnected with the injection mold by at least one anti-rotation element, preventing damage to the nozzle tip of the side gate nozzle, for example when a torque is applied to the fixing screw. The anti-rotation element is arranged between the side gate nozzle and the injection mold and supports the side gate nozzle in the circumferential direction relative to the injection mold. Therefore, when extending into the corresponding cavity of the injection mold, the torque applied to the fixing screw is kept away from the nozzle tip. If present, at least one anti-rotation element may extend from the outside of the nozzle block and / or the distributor block essentially in radial direction for easy and secure insertion of the edge gate nozzle into the injection mold. Preferably, the anti-rotation element is configured to engage with corresponding receiving recesses and / or protrusions in the mold plate in a form-locking manner during assembly of the mold. Depending on the design, the anti-rotation element may be formed as a pin, for example. In addition to the circumferential support, the anti-rotation element may also provide a detachable connection between the edge gate nozzle and the injection mold in radial direction and / or axial direction.

[0024] For optimal performance of the edge gate nozzle, the heating element can be at least partially arranged in a groove outside the nozzle block and / or the distribution block to control the temperature of the melt. Preferably, the heating element includes at least one meandering turn between two adjacent nozzle recesses. The heating element can be formed as a strip, cable, flat or tubular heating element arranged in the groove. The groove can at least partially surround the nozzle block and / or the distribution block in a meandering or sinusoidal manner. In addition, a temperature sensor can be arranged in the nozzle block and / or the distribution block for precise adjustment of the melt temperature.

[0025] In order to align the nozzle insert in the lateral direction and to align the nozzle tip relative to the cavity, in particular during insertion of the nozzle insert, the supporting means can be arranged adjacent to the nozzle recess in an outward direction. If present, the supporting means extends at least partially in the radial direction to support the nozzle insert at least in the lateral direction during installation and / or operation. Depending on the design, the supporting means can be formed as at least one protrusion extending from the nozzle block in the radial direction. Preferably, the protrusion can at least partially surround the nozzle recess and be arranged in a manner flush with two side walls of the nozzle recess. In some variants, one protrusion of each nozzle recess extends from the bottom and the side walls of the nozzle recess in the radial direction with a substantially U-shaped cross-section.

[0026] In order to easily and damage-free insert the nozzle insert into the nozzle recess of the side gate nozzle, the side gate nozzle may include at least one guiding device protruding from at least one of the two opposite side walls of the nozzle recess to prevent undesired tilting of the nozzle insert in the axial direction during installation and / or operation. Preferably, the guiding device is arranged so that the distance between the guiding device and the bottom of the nozzle recess is substantially equal to the height of the nozzle insert in the axial direction, so that during installation and / or operation, the guiding device at least temporarily interacts with the top surface of the nozzle insert. The guiding device can be formed as a protrusion from the side wall of the nozzle recess in the lateral direction. In some variations, the guiding device can extend between the two opposite side walls of the nozzle recess.

[0027] Good results are possible when the nozzle insert comprises a lead-in recess extending along one side of the nozzle insert to temporarily accommodate the guide means formed as a projection during insertion into the nozzle recess.

[0028] Another aspect of the present disclosure relates to an injection mold, which generally includes at least one cavity module, the cavity module including at least one cavity half connected to the side gate nozzle as described above. Preferably, the cavity module includes at least one nozzle tip recess connected to the cavity half, for accommodating the nozzle tip of the side gate nozzle, and forming a detachable connection between the nozzle tip and the nozzle tip recess.

[0029] When the injection mold is combined with a side gate nozzle, the side gate nozzle includes a nozzle insert that is displaceably arranged in an outward direction, and high efficiency in inserting and / or removing the nozzle insert during maintenance and / or assembly is possible. This allows the nozzle insert to be inserted and removed without separating the side gate nozzle block from the cavity module. Assembling the nozzle insert into an injection mold with an attached side gate nozzle may include the following steps. When the nozzle insert is inserted into the nozzle recess, the nozzle insert moves in an axial direction until the retaining device engages in the guide groove. The nozzle insert then moves in an outward direction while being guided by the retaining device in the guide groove until the nozzle tip slides in the nozzle tip recess. In this position, the retaining device contacts the end portion of the guide groove. In the next step, when the first spacer is inserted in the axial direction and the fixing screw is applied and tightened, the position of the nozzle insert is fixed in the outward direction.

[0030] Preferably, at least one nozzle tip recess comprises a sealing portion which, in the mounted state, interacts with the nozzle tip to provide a seal between the nozzle tip recess and the nozzle tip.

Fig.19 A perspective and partially exploded and partially sectioned view of a seventh variant of the edge gate nozzle 1 is shown, and Fig. 20 Shown from different perspectives Fig.19 The seventh variation. Figure 21 to Figure 24 Some intermediate steps of inserting the nozzle insert 6 are shown.

[0059] For example, Figures 1 to 20 As can be seen in FIG. 1 , the edge gate nozzle 1 according to the present disclosure generally comprises a supply block 2, a distribution block 3 and a nozzle block 4 which are interconnected in the axial direction (here the z direction). The nozzle block 4 comprises at least one nozzle recess 5 in which a nozzle insert 6 is arranged, as described in more detail below. The nozzle insert 6 in the assembled state is held in the axial direction, preferably by a fixing screw 7 which is directly or indirectly interconnected with the nozzle block 4.

[0060] In accordance with Figures 1 to 7 and Figures 10 to 12 In a variant of the invention, the fixing screw 7 is expanded completely across the nozzle recess 5. Figure 6 As can be seen in the figure, the diameter of the fixing screw 7 is greater than the width 29 of the nozzle recess 5 in the transverse direction 18. In these variants, the fixing screw 7 interacts with an internal thread 15, which is arranged in the upper region of the corresponding nozzle recess 5. The internal thread 15 extends in two opposite side walls 16 of the nozzle recess 5, such as Figure 3 and Fig.12 The internal thread 15 is arranged in the upper region of the nozzle recess 5 above the nozzle insert 6. Thus, the nozzle insert 6 in the installed position can be pressed against the bottom 8 of the nozzle recess 5 in a controlled and individual manner.

[0061] In accordance with Figures 13 to 15 In a functionally different variant, the fixing screws 7 do not interact directly with the nozzle block 4. Instead, the fixing screws 7 are arranged in a separate cover plate 17. The cover plate 17 allows direct access to the fixing screws 7 from the outside. However, when the cover plate 17 is removed, for example for maintenance of one of the nozzle inserts 6, all the remaining nozzle inserts 6 also become loose.

[0062] For leak-free delivery of the melt, the nozzle insert 6 comprises an inlet opening 9 which is usually pressed directly against an outlet opening 10 via corresponding fixing screws 7, which is arranged at the bottom of the nozzle recess 5. Figure 3 , Figure 5 , Figure 7 and Fig.18As can best be seen in FIG. 1 , a good seal is achieved between the inlet opening 9 and the outlet opening 10 of the nozzle insert 6 when the fixing screw 7 is arranged concentrically relative to the corresponding outlet opening 10 in the bottom 8. In this way, the applied sealing pressure can be evenly distributed. Figure 5 and Fig. 9 As shown, at least one nozzle tip 11 pointing in an outward direction 12 is attached to the nozzle insert 6. In all the variants shown, the melt is conveyed from the inlet opening 9 of the nozzle insert 6 to the nozzle tip 11 attached to the nozzle insert 6 via an insert melt channel 30, which is arranged inside the nozzle insert 6 and connects the inlet opening 9 and the nozzle tip 11 to one another.

[0063] from Figure 5 As can be seen from the sectional view of , for the purpose of assembling and / or maintaining the edge gate nozzle 1 according to the present disclosure, the nozzle insert 6 is arranged displaceably with respect to the outward direction 12. To achieve this, the nozzle block 4 comprises at least one guide groove 21 in the outward direction 12, into which the pin-shaped retaining means 22 of the nozzle insert 6 engages. In this way, the displacement of the nozzle insert 6 in the outward direction 12 during assembly is guided by the at least one guide groove 21. The guide groove 21 is at least partially arranged in the wall of the nozzle recess 5. From Figure 8 As can be seen in FIG. 1 , two or more nozzle inserts 6 can be arranged in one nozzle recess 5, in this case two nozzle inserts 6 are arranged in a common nozzle recess 5. During operation, the nozzle insert 6 is held by the first spacer 14 in an outward direction 12 opposite to the direction of the melt flow 13, e.g. Figure 7 Preferably, the first spacer 14 consists at least partially of a material having a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the nozzle block 4. During operation, in the opposite direction, the nozzle insert 6 is held in the direction of the melt flow 13 by a pin-shaped retaining device 22 in contact with the end portion 23 of the guide groove 21. However, in the seventh variant of the edge gate nozzle 1, as Figures 19 to 24 As shown, the retaining device 22 is formed integrally with the nozzle insert 6 and is block-shaped.

[0064] exist Figures 10 to 12 In some of the variants shown, at least two adjacent nozzle inserts 6 are spaced apart from one another in the transverse direction 18 by a transversely movable second spacer 19. The second spacer 19 is arranged at Fig.12 As can best be seen in FIG. 4 , it at least partially consists of a material with a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the nozzle block 4 .

[0065] In some variants, the cover plate 17 of the edge gate nozzle 1 comprises an alignment through hole 20 in the axial direction z, such as Figure 4As shown, in order to temporarily connect the cover plate 17 and the nozzle block 4 to each other in a torsion-proof manner in the installed state. In some variants, the cover plate 17 is mounted to the mold plate, such as Figures 16 to 18 Visible in.

[0066] Figures 16 to 18 Another aspect of the present disclosure is shown and relates to an injection mold 24 comprising at least one cavity module 25 including at least one cavity half 26 connected to the edge gate nozzle 1 . Fig.16 The injection mold 24 shown comprises four cavity modules 25 arranged in two pairs, wherein between the two cavity modules 25 of each pair there is arranged a Fig.10 The side gate nozzle 1 is shown. Each cavity module 25 includes a cavity half 26 for each nozzle insert 6 / nozzle tip 11. The cavity module 25 also includes at least one nozzle tip recess 27, which is connected to the cavity half 26 for accommodating the nozzle tip 11 of the side gate nozzle 1 and forming a detachable connection between the nozzle tip 11 and the nozzle tip recess 27. Fig.18 Best visible in Fig.18 yes Fig.16 A cross-sectional view of a portion of the injection mold 24, Fig.18 It is also shown that at least one nozzle tip recess 27 includes a sealing portion 28 which interacts with the nozzle tip 11 in the assembled state to provide a seal therebetween. Fig.17 It is shown in Fig.16 Detailed view of the side gate nozzle 1 of the injection mold 24 , which shows the side gate nozzle 1 arranged between two cavity modules 25 .

[0067] When the injection mold 24 is combined with the side gate nozzle 1 including the nozzle insert 6 displaceably arranged in the outward direction, high efficiency in inserting and / or removing the nozzle insert 6 during maintenance and / or assembly is possible. This allows the nozzle insert 6 to be inserted and removed without separating the side gate nozzle block 4 from the cavity module. Fig.18 So that it can be understood that assembling the nozzle insert 6 into the injection mold 24 with the inserted side gate nozzle 1 can include the following steps. When the nozzle insert 6 is inserted into the nozzle recess 5, the nozzle insert 6 is moved in the axial direction z until the retaining device 22 engages in the guide groove 21. The nozzle insert 6 is then moved in the outward direction 12 while being guided by the retaining device 22 in the guide groove 21 until the nozzle tip 11 slides in the nozzle tip recess 27. In this position, the retaining device 22 is in contact with the end portion 23 of the guide groove. In the next step, when the first spacer 14 is inserted in the axial direction z and the fixing screw 7 is applied and tightened, the position of the nozzle insert 6 is fixed in the outward direction 12, x.

[0068] like Figures 19 to 24 As shown, the seventh variation of the side gate nozzle 1 includes a rotationally symmetrical nozzle block 4. In this variation, the side gate nozzle 1 includes four symmetrically arranged anti-rotation elements 36, which extend from the outside of the nozzle block 4 in the radial direction for easily and securely inserting the side gate nozzle 1 into the injection mold 24 (not shown). The anti-rotation elements 36 are pin-shaped elements.

[0069] Furthermore, the seventh variant of the edge gate nozzle 1 comprises a heating element 32 which is arranged in a recess 33 outside the nozzle block 4 and the distribution block 3. Fig.19 and Fig. 20 As can be seen in FIG. 3 , the groove 33 surrounds the nozzle block 4 and the distribution block 3 in a zigzag manner. Figure 21 to Figure 24 As shown, the heating element 32 comprises a meandering turn between respective two adjacent nozzle recesses 5, and the heating element 32 comprises longitudinal sections in the axial direction towards and away from the meandering turn. The variant shown comprises a plurality of meandering turns.

[0070] like Figure 21 to Figure 24 As can be best seen in the figure, the nozzle block 4 comprises, for each nozzle recess 5, a skirt-like protrusion 34 extending in radial direction from the nozzle block recess 5 for preventing damage to the respective nozzle insert 6, in particular during assembly of the edge gate nozzle 1 and / or the separate nozzle insert 6 in the injection mold 24 (not shown). In the variant shown, the protrusion 34 is arranged around the respective nozzle recess 5, which extends in radial direction from the bottom 8 and the side wall 16 of the nozzle recess 5 with a substantially U-shaped cross section.

[0071] In order to easily and damage-free insert the nozzle insert 6 into the nozzle recess 5 of the side gate nozzle 1, the side gate nozzle 1 comprises at least one guide device 35, which protrudes from two opposite side walls 16 of the nozzle recess 5 so as to be inserted into the nozzle recess 5. Fig.23 During the intermediate step of the installation shown, the movement of the nozzle insert 6 in the axial direction z is restricted. This prevents an undesired tilting of the nozzle insert 6 in the axial direction z. Fig. 20 As shown, the guide means 35 is arranged at a height equal to the height 38 of the nozzle insert 6 in the axial direction from the bottom of the nozzle recess 5. In the variant shown, the guide means 35 is formed as a projection from the two side walls 16 of the nozzle recess 5 in the transverse direction 18. Figures 19 to 24 As can be seen in FIG. 5 , the nozzle insert 6 comprises two lead-in recesses 37, each of which extends along one side of the nozzle insert 6 to temporarily accommodate the guide means 35 formed as a projection during insertion into the nozzle recess 5, as shown in FIG. Fig. 22 Best visible in.
