[0017] The inventors have developed a beauty composition comprising at least one superabsorbent polymer, at least one water-soluble softening agent and at least one thickening agent, which can be stable.

[0018] As used herein, the term "stable" means that the composition does not undergo any of separation of its components, change in color and / or change in texture (such as buffering and elastomeric-like feel) over time, for example, for up to 2 years under ambient conditions (such as 25 °C / 65% RH) and 4 weeks under accelerated conditions (such as 50 °C / 65% RH).

[0019] Preferably, the beauty composition is silicone-free. However, it may have sensory properties such as a silky feel, softness, weightlessness and / or a cushionyl feel, similar to those of a beauty composition containing silicone. In other words, the texture of the beauty composition can be similar to that of a beauty composition containing silicone.

[0020] As used herein, the term "silicone-free" means that the total content of any silicone-based components such as silicone oil, silicone elastomer and / or silicone resin in the beauty composition is less than 1% by mass, or less than 0.5% by mass or less than 0.3% by mass or less than 0.2% by mass or less than 0.1% by mass. Preferably, the silicone-free composition does not contain any silicone-based components.

[0056] The embodiments described herein are further illustrated by the following working examples, but are in no way limited thereto. Examples

[0057]

[0058] Table 1 presents the ingredients of the cosmetic compositions studied and reports the results of the evaluation of the viscosity, stability, texture, and visual appearance of these compositions.

[0059] Based on Table 1, the composition of Control 6 containing squalane (non-microfluidized form) failed the stability test, and its texture, duration, and viscosity were outside the acceptable range. Additionally, Control Examples 1-3 showed that the absence of a thickening agent led to stability failure and too low viscosity. In contrast, Example 4 showed that even in the complete absence of a thickening agent, an increase in the amount of superabsorbent polymer would result in a viscosity higher than the desired level. Based on the evaluation of Controls 7-9, it was considered that the presence of both superabsorbent polymer and thickening agent might contribute to increased stability and help achieve the desired viscosity. However, a water-soluble composition without a microfluidized softening agent resulted in an unacceptable cushiony texture. Control 5 exemplified the use of all three components, namely superabsorbent polymer, water-soluble softening agent, and thickening agent, but at levels that might be outside the preferred range (as described above), allowing for the obtaining of a stable composition characterized by reduced viscosity and an incompletely desired texture. Examples 1-4 showed that by using specific levels of superabsorbent polymer, water-soluble composition of microfluidized softening agent, and thickening agent, a composition with silicone-like properties could be obtained.

[0060] Table 2

[0061]

[0062] Table 2 exemplifies how the components of an exemplary cosmetic composition are distributed between the different phases used to prepare the composition.

[0063] The composition was prepared as follows:

[0064] Phase A was prepared by adding deionized water and EDTA to a large beaker and then mixing at room temperature.

[0065] Phase B was prepared by premixing glycerin and xanthan gum. Then, this mixture was added to the large beaker.

[0066] Phase C was prepared by premixing 1,3-butanediol and Barcril AV to ensure they were well mixed. Then, this mixture was added to the large beaker, where all the components were mixed well for 10 - 15 minutes.

[0067] Phase D was prepared by adding a preservative such as phenoxyethanol to the large beaker and mixing the components well in the large beaker.

[0068] Phases A - F were mixed in a glass beaker with a HEIDON overhead stirrer and a prop mixer.

[0069] Viscosity measurements were carried out in 2-ounce glass jars under ambient conditions (25°C / 65% RH) using a Brookfield viscometer with #3 and #4 spindles.

[0070] The stability and texture of the samples stored at 50 °C for 4 weeks were visually evaluated. The following characteristics were observed:

[0071] Pass: Clear / transparent and smooth gel, silky feel, soft gel, smooth gel, cushioned feel, no separation and / or color in the composition

[0072] Fail: Water breaking through the gel, too thin (viscosity below 1500 cps), too thick (viscosity above 8500 cps), separation observed and color / transparency becoming hazy and milky

[0073] Although the foregoing relates to particularly preferred embodiments, it should be understood that the present invention is not limited thereto. Those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that various modifications can be made to the disclosed embodiments, and such modifications are intended to fall within the scope of the present invention.
