Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a method for controlling or preventing plants from being infected by the plant pathogenic microorganism Corynespora cassiicola. Background Art
[0002] Coryneformis infects more than 530 species of plants from 53 families (Dixon, LJ, et al., 2009, Phytopathology 99 (9) 1015-27). Coryneformis is most common in tropical and subtropical areas. Also, it has been isolated from nematodes and human skin. Coryneformis is known to be a pathogen of many crop plants (e.g., beans, cowpeas, cucumbers, papayas, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes). The disease caused by Coryneformis is called target leaf spot or target spot on several plants (e.g., tomatoes).
[0003] The plant pathogen Coryneformis multifilaments has developed resistance to many current commercial solutions, which limits their effectiveness, and, although the development of new classes of agricultural chemical fungicides is ongoing, many of these new chemical classes are limited in their fungicidal spectrum and only control certain specific plant pathogens. That is, when a new chemical class is shown to control certain specific plant pathogens on certain specific crops, it is not expected that the same chemical class will prove useful for controlling the plant pathogen Coryneformis multifilaments on, for example, soybeans.
[0004] Therefore, there is a need to develop new methods for controlling or preventing infection by the plant pathogen Corynespora multilocus. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0119] The formulation typically comprises a liquid or solid carrier and optionally one or more conventional formulation adjuvants, which may be solid or liquid adjuvants, for example, non-epoxidized or epoxidized vegetable oils (e.g., epoxidized coconut oil, rapeseed oil or soybean oil), defoamers (e.g., silicone oils), preservatives, clays, inorganic compounds, viscosity modifiers, surfactants, binders and / or tackifiers. The composition may further comprise fertilizers, micronutrient donors or other preparations that influence plant growth, and comprises combinations containing the compounds of the invention and one or more other biologically active agents, such as bactericides, fungicides, nematicides, plant activators, acaricides and insecticides.
[0120] The compositions are prepared in a manner known per se, in the absence of auxiliaries, for example by grinding, sieving and / or compressing the solid compound according to the invention, and in the presence of at least one auxiliary, for example by intimately mixing and / or grinding the compound according to the invention with one or more auxiliary agents. In the case of the solid compounds according to the invention, the grinding / milling of the compound is to ensure a specific particle size.
[0121] Examples of compositions for use in agriculture are emulsifiable concentrates, suspension concentrates, microemulsions, oil dispersions, directly sprayable or dilutable solutions, spreadable pastes, diluted emulsions, soluble powders, dispersible powders, wettable powders, dusts, granules or capsules in a polymeric substance, these compositions comprising at least a compound as defined in any one of embodiments 1 to 14 and the type of composition being chosen to suit the intended purpose and the prevailing circumstances.

[0143] Examples of formulation types suitable for tank-mix compositions are solutions, dilute emulsions, suspensions or mixtures thereof, and dusts.
[0144] In view of the nature of the formulation, the application method (such as foliar application, drenching application, spraying application, atomization application, dusting application, broadcasting application, coating application or pouring application) can be selected according to the intended purpose and the prevailing circumstances.
[0145] Tank-mix compositions are generally prepared by diluting one or more premix compositions containing different pesticides and optionally additional adjuvants with a solvent (eg, water).
[0146] Suitable carriers and adjuvants can be solid or liquid and are the substances customary in formulation technology, for example natural or regenerated mineral substances, solvents, dispersants, wetting agents, tackifiers, thickeners, binders or fertilizers.
[0147] Generally, tank-mix formulations for foliar or soil application contain 0.1% to 20% (especially 0.1% to 15%) of the desired ingredients and 99.9% to 80% (especially 99.9% to 85%) of solid or liquid adjuvants (including, for example, solvents such as water), wherein the adjuvant may be a surfactant, in an amount of 0 to 20% (especially 0.1% to 15%) based on the tank-mix formulation.
[0148] Typically, premix formulations for foliar application contain 0.1% to 99.9% (especially 1% to 95%) of the desired ingredient and 99.9% to 0.1% (especially 99% to 5%) of a solid or liquid adjuvant (including, for example, a solvent such as water), wherein the adjuvant may be a surfactant, in an amount of 0 to 50% (especially 0.5% to 40%) based on the premix formulation.
[0149] Typically, tank-mix formulations for seed treatment applications contain 0.25% to 80% (especially 1% to 75%) of the desired ingredients and 99.75% to 20% (especially 99% to 25%) of solid or liquid adjuvants (including, for example, solvents such as water), wherein the adjuvant may be a surfactant, in an amount of 0 to 40% (especially 0.5% to 30%) based on the tank-mix formulation.
[0150] Typically, premix formulations for seed treatment applications contain 0.5% to 99.9% (especially 1% to 95%) of the desired ingredients and 99.5% to 0.1% (especially 99% to 5%) of solid or liquid adjuvants (including, for example, solvents such as water), wherein the adjuvant may be a surfactant, in an amount of 0 to 50% (especially 0.5% to 40%) based on the premix formulation.
[0151] Whereas commercial products will preferably be formulated as concentrates (eg, premix compositions (formulations)), the end user will typically use a diluted formulation (eg, a tank-mix composition).
[0152] Preferred seed treatment premix formulations are aqueous suspension concentrates. Conventional treatment techniques and machines, such as fluidized bed technology, drum milling methods, rotostatic seed treatment machines and drum coating machines, can be used to apply the formulation to the seeds. Other methods (such as spouted beds) may also be useful. The seeds may be pre-sized before coating. After coating, the seeds are typically dried and then transferred to a sizing machine for sizing. Such procedures are known in the art. The compound of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in soil and seed treatment applications.
[0153] Typically, the premix composition of the present invention contains 0.5% to 99.9% by mass, especially 1% to 95%, advantageously 1% to 50% of the desired ingredients and 99.5% to 0.1% by mass, especially 99% to 5% by mass of solid or liquid adjuvants (including, for example, solvents such as water), wherein the adjuvant (or adjuvant) may be a surfactant, in an amount of 0 to 50% by mass, especially 0.5% to 40%, based on the mass of the premix formulation.
[0154] In addition, further, other biocidal active ingredients or compositions can be combined with the composition of the present invention, and used in the method of the present invention and applied simultaneously or sequentially with the composition of the present invention. When applied simultaneously, these other active ingredients can be prepared or mixed in, for example, a spray tank together with the composition of the present invention. These other biocidal active ingredients can be fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, bactericides, acaricides, nematicides and / or plant growth regulators.
[0155] In addition, the compositions of the invention may also be administered with one or more inducers of systemic acquired resistance ("SAR" inducers). SAR inducers are known and described, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 6,919,298 and include, for example, salicylates and the commercial SAR inducer acibenzolar-S-methyl.
[0156] The compounds as defined in any one of Examples 1 to 14 are usually used in the form of compositions and can be applied to crop areas or plants to be treated simultaneously or sequentially with other compounds. For example, these other compounds can be fertilizers or micronutrient donors or other preparations that affect plant growth. They can also be selective herbicides or non-selective herbicides, together with insecticides, fungicides, bactericides, nematicides, molluscicides or mixtures of several of these preparations, if desired together with other carriers, surfactants or adjuvants that are commonly used in the field of formulations to promote application.
[0157] The compounds of formula (I) can be used in the form of (fungicidal) compositions for controlling or protecting against the plant pathogen Coryneformis multilocus, which compositions comprise at least one compound as defined in any one of Examples 1 to 14 as active ingredient (in free form or in the form of an agrochemically acceptable salt) and at least one of the above-mentioned adjuvants.
[0158] Plants and / or target crops according to the invention include conventional as well as genetically enhanced or genetically engineered varieties, such as, for example, insect-resistant (e.g., Bt. and VIP varieties) as well as disease-resistant, herbicide-tolerant (e.g., glyphosate-resistant and glufosinate-resistant corn varieties, marketed under the trade names and Commercially available) and nematode-tolerant varieties. By way of example, suitable genetically enhanced or genetically engineered crop varieties include Stoneville 5599BR cotton and Stoneville 4892BR cotton varieties.
[0159] The terms "plants" and / or "target crops" are to be understood as also including plants which have been rendered tolerant to herbicides such as bromoxynil or classes of herbicides such as, for example, HPPD inhibitors, ALS inhibitors such as primisulfuron, prosulfuron and trifloxysulfuron, EPSPS (5-enol-pyrovyl-shikimate-3-phosphate-synthase) inhibitors, GS (glutamine synthetase) inhibitors or PPO (protoporphyrinogen-oxidase) inhibitors as a result of conventional methods of breeding or genetic engineering. Examples of crops which have been rendered tolerant to imidazolinones such as imazamox by conventional methods of breeding (mutagenesis) are Summer rapeseed (canola). Examples of crops that have been rendered tolerant to herbicides or herbicides by genetic engineering methods include glyphosate-resistant and glufosinate-resistant maize varieties, which are based on and Commercially available under the trade name ANTIQUID®.
[0160] The terms "plants" and / or "target crops" are to be understood as including those that are naturally or have been rendered resistant to harmful insects. This includes plants that have been transformed using recombinant DNA technology so as to, for example, synthesize one or more selectively acting toxins, such as are known from, for example, toxin-producing bacteria. Examples of toxins that may be expressed include delta-endotoxins, vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vips), insecticidal proteins of bacterial colonizing nematodes, and toxins produced by scorpions, arachnids, wasps and fungi. Examples of crops that have been modified to express Bacillus thuringiensis toxins are Bt maize, Bt thuringiensis toxins ... (Syngenta Seeds). Examples of crops that include more than one gene encoding insecticide resistance and thereby expressing more than one toxin are (Syngenta Seeds). Crops or their seed material may also be resistant to multiple types of pests (so-called stacked transgenic events when produced by genetic modification). For example, a plant may have the ability to express an insecticidal protein while being tolerant to a herbicide, such as Herculex (Dow AgroSciences, Pioneer Hi-Bred International).
[0161] The term "plants" and / or "target crops" is to be understood as also including plants which have been transformed by the use of recombinant DNA techniques so that they are able to synthesize selectively active antipathogenic substances, such as, for example, so-called "pathogenesis-related proteins" (PRPs, see, for example, EP-A-0 392 225). Examples of such antipathogenic substances and transgenic plants which are able to synthesize such antipathogenic substances are known, for example, from EP-A-0 392 225, WO 95 / 33818 and EP-A-0 353 191. Methods for producing such transgenic plants are generally known to the person skilled in the art and are described, for example, in the publications mentioned above.
[0162] Toxins that can be expressed by transgenic plants include, for example, insecticidal proteins from Bacillus cereus or Bacillus popilliae; or insecticidal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis, such as delta-endotoxins, for example Cry1Ab, Cry1Ac, Cry1F, Cry1Fa2, Cry2Ab, Cry3A, Cry3Bb1, or Cry9C, or vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vips), for example Vip1, Vip2, Vip3, or Vip3A; or insecticidal proteins of bacterial colonizing nematodes, for example Photorhabdus spp. or Xenorhabdus spp., such as Photorhabdus spp. luminescens), Xenorhabdus nematophilus; toxins produced by animals, such as scorpion toxins, spider toxins, bee toxins and other insect-specific neurotoxins; toxins produced by fungi, such as streptomycin, plant lectins, such as pea agglutinin, barley agglutinin or snowdrop agglutinin; agglutinin; protease inhibitors, such as trypsin inhibitors, silk proteinase inhibitors, potato glycoproteins, cystatins, papaya Protease inhibitors; ribosome inactivating proteins (RIPs), such as ricin, maize-RIP, abrin, luffa seed toxin, saponin or bryophyllin; steroid metabolizing enzymes, such as 3-hydroxysteroid oxidase, ecdysteroid-UDP-glycosyl-transferase, cholesterol oxidase, ecdysteroid inhibitors, HMG-COA-reductase, ion channel blockers such as sodium channel or calcium channel blockers, juvenile hormone esterase, diuretic hormone receptor, stilbene synthase, bibenzyl synthase, chitinase and glucanase.
[0163] Further, in the context of the present invention, delta-endotoxins (e.g., Cry1Ab, Cry1Ac, Cry1F, Cry1Fa2, Cry2Ab, Cry3A, Cry3Bb1 or Cry9C) or vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vips) (e.g., Vip1, Vip2, Vip3 or Vip3A) are understood to include obviously also mixed toxins, truncated toxins and modified toxins. Mixed toxins are recombinantly produced by new combinations of different domains of those proteins (see, e.g., WO 02 / 15701). Truncated toxins, such as truncated Cry1Ab, are known. In the case of modified toxins, one or more amino acids of the naturally occurring toxin are replaced. In such amino acid replacements, it is preferred that a non-naturally occurring protease recognition sequence is inserted into the toxin, such as, for example, in the case of Cry3A055, a cathepsin-G-recognition sequence is inserted into the Cry3A toxin (see WO 03 / 018810).
[0164] Further examples of such toxins or transgenic plants capable of synthesizing such toxins are disclosed in, for example, EP-A-0 374 753, WO 93 / 07278, WO 95 / 34656, EP-A-0 427 529, EP-A-451 878 and WO 03 / 052073.
[0165] Methods for preparing such transgenic plants are generally known to the person skilled in the art and are described, for example, in the publications mentioned above. CryI-type deoxyribonucleic acids and their preparation are known, for example, from WO 95 / 34656, EP-A-0 367474, EP-A-0 401 979 and WO 90 / 13651.
[0166] The toxins contained in the transgenic plants render the plants tolerant to harmful insects. Such insects can be found in any insect taxonomic group, but are particularly common among beetles (Coleoptera), two-winged insects (Diptera), and moths (Lepidoptera).
[0167] Transgenic plants comprising one or more genes encoding insecticide resistance and expressing one or more toxins are known and some of them are commercially available. Examples of such plants are: (corn variety expressing Cry1Ab toxin); YieldGard (corn variety expressing Cry3Bb1 toxin); YieldGard (corn varieties expressing Cry1Ab and Cry3Bb1 toxins); (corn variety expressing Cry9C toxin); Herculex (a corn variety expressing the Cry1Fa2 toxin and the enzyme phosphinothricin N-acetyltransferase (PAT) that confers tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate ammonium); NuCOTN (cotton variety expressing Cry1Ac toxin); Bollgard (cotton variety expressing Cry1Ac toxin); Bollgard (cotton varieties expressing Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab toxins); (cotton varieties expressing Vip3A and Cry1Ab toxins); (potato variety, expressing Cry3A toxin); GT Advantage (GA21 glyphosate tolerance trait), CB Advantage (Bt11 corn borer (CB) trait) and

[0176] As used herein, the term "locus" means a place where or on which plants grow, or where seeds of cultivated plants are sown, or where seeds are to be placed in the soil. It includes soil, seeds, and seedlings, together with established vegetation.
[0177] The term "plant" refers to all physical parts of a plant, including seeds, seedlings, saplings, roots, tubers, stems, stalks, leaves and fruits.
[0178] The term "plant propagation material" is understood to mean the reproductive parts of plants, such as seeds (which can be used for the propagation of plants), and vegetative materials, such as cuttings or tubers (e.g. potatoes). For example, seeds (in the strict sense), roots, fruits, tubers, bulbs, rhizomes and parts of plants may be mentioned. Germinated plants and young plants that will be transplanted after germination or after emergence may also be mentioned. These young plants may be treated completely or partially by dipping and protected before transplanting. Preferably, "plant propagation material" is understood to mean seeds.
[0179] Pesticides referred to herein using their common names are known, for example, from “The Pesticide Manual”, 15th edition, British Crop Protection Council 2009.
[0180] The compound for use in the method of the invention as defined in any one of Examples 1 to 14 can be the sole active ingredient of the composition, or it can be mixed with one or more additional active ingredients (such as pesticides, fungicides, synergists, herbicides or plant growth regulators) as appropriate. In some cases, the additional active ingredients can produce unexpected synergistic activity.
[0181] The compositions according to the invention may also contain further solid or liquid adjuvants, such as stabilizers, for example non-epoxidized or epoxidized vegetable oils (e.g. epoxidized coconut oil, rapeseed oil or soybean oil), defoamers (e.g. silicone oils), preservatives, viscosity regulators, adhesives and / or tackifiers, fertilizers or other active ingredients for obtaining specific effects, such as bactericides, fungicides, nematicides, plant activators, molluscicides or herbicides.

These methods for preparing the compositions and the use of compound (I) for preparing these compositions are also subject matter of the present invention.
[0183] Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of a compound as defined in any one of embodiments 1 to 14, a composition comprising at least one compound as defined in any one of embodiments 1 to 14, or a fungicidal or insecticidal mixture comprising at least one compound as defined in any one of embodiments 1 to 14 (mixed with other fungicides or insecticides as described above) for controlling or preventing infestation of plants, such as plants (such as crop plants), their propagation materials (such as seeds), harvested crops (such as harvested food crops), or non-living materials by insects or phytopathogenic microorganisms, preferably fungal organisms.
[0184] Another aspect of the present invention relates to a method for controlling or preventing plants (e.g. plants (e.g. crop plants)), their propagation materials (e.g. seeds), harvested crops (e.g. harvested food crops), or non-living materials from being infested by phytopathogenic microorganisms or spoilage microorganisms or organisms potentially harmful to humans (especially fungal organisms), which method comprises applying a compound as defined in any one of Embodiments 1 to 14 as an active ingredient to these plants, parts of these plants or their loci, their propagation materials, or any parts of these non-living materials.
[0185] Control or prevention means the reduction of infestation by insects or phytopathogenic or spoilage microorganisms or organisms potentially harmful to humans, especially fungal organisms, to such a level that an improvement is demonstrated.
[0186] The preferred method of controlling or preventing crop plants from being infected by plant pathogenic microorganisms (especially fungal organisms) or insects is leaf application, which includes applying a compound as defined in any one of Examples 1 to 14 or an agrochemical composition containing at least one of the compounds. Frequency of application and application ratio will depend on the risk of infection by the corresponding pathogen or insect. However, the compound with formula (I) can also be applied to the soil (soil application) by roots (systemic action) by irrigating the place of plants with liquid formulations or by applying the compound in solid form, for example, in granular form to the soil. In rice crops, such granules can be applied to the paddy field of irrigation. The compound with formula (I) can also be applied to seeds (coating) by impregnating seeds or tubers with liquid formulations of fungicides or coating them with solid formulations.

[0194] experiment:
[0195] The fungus conidia from frozen storage is directly mixed in the nutrient broth (PDB potato dextrose broth). The DMSO solution of the test compound is placed in a microtiter plate (96 wells) and the nutrient broth comprising the fungus spore is added thereto. These test plates are hatched at 24°C and after 3-4 days, the inhibition of growth (to the control percentage of the multi-primary coryneform bacteria) is determined by photometry at 620nm. The activity of the compound is drawn by comparing the growth inhibition in the treated test solution with the growth in the untreated control solution (check). The concentration of the compound is 6.7, 2.2, 0.74, 0.25, 0.082 and 0.027ppm.
[0196] The following compounds gave at least 70% control of Corynespora polymyxinii at 6.7 ppm when compared to untreated controls which showed extensive disease development under the same conditions: Examples 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16.
[0197] The compounds as defined in any one of Examples 1 to 14 can be distinguished from other compounds by a greater efficacy at low application rates, which can be verified by a person skilled in the art using the experimental procedures outlined in the above biological tests, using lower application rates (if necessary) such as 6ppm, 3ppm, 2.2ppm, 1.5ppm, 0.8ppm, 0.74ppm, 0.25ppm, 0.2ppm, 0.082ppm or 0.027ppm.
