In accordance with the instant invention, methods of modifying and / or modulating a microbiome (e.g., the composition of a microbiome) are provided. The methods of the instant invention comprise contacting the microbiome (e.g., the assemblage of organisms composing the microbiome) with a compound excreted by an organism (e.g., nematode), particularly an organism that naturally lives in or is part of the microbiome.
