[0086] Referring to Figures 1 to 4 , an embodiment of the electrical connector 100 includes an insulating body 1, an upper terminal module 2, a lower terminal module 3, and a metal shell 4.

[0087] The insulating body 1 is made of, for example, an insulating material such as plastic. The insulating body 1 has, in this example, a mating socket 11 formed from a front end toward a rear end in a front-rear direction D1 (the direction indicated by the arrow is the front, and the reverse direction is the rear) and extending laterally in a left-right direction D2 (the direction indicated by the arrow is the right, and the reverse direction is the left), and a mounting socket 12 formed from a rear end toward a front end and communicating with the mating socket 11. The mounting socket 12 has a rear end opening 121 toward the rear, and a bottom opening 122 communicating with the rear end opening 121 and toward the lower side (the direction indicated by the arrow is the upper, and the reverse direction is the lower) in an up-down direction D3. The upper terminal module 2 and the lower terminal module 3 are arranged above and below each other and combined with each other in the insulating body 1. The metal shell 4 is provided outside the insulating body 1 in a covering manner and can function to shield electromagnetic interference. However, the metal shell 4 can be omitted in other embodiments, and is not limited to this embodiment.

[0088] Referring to Figures 5 to 9The upper terminal module 2 includes a plurality of upper terminals 21 arranged side by side along the left-right direction D2, and an upper insulating frame 22 for fixing the plurality of upper terminals 21. The plurality of upper terminals 21 includes a plurality of upper signal terminals 21a, and a plurality of upper ground terminals 21b. The plurality of upper signal terminals 21a forms a plurality of upper signal terminal pairs spaced apart by the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, and in this embodiment, one of the upper signal terminal pairs is arranged between each of the adjacent two upper ground terminals 21b. Each of the upper terminals 21 has an upper vertical section 211 extending vertically along the up-down direction D3, an upper horizontal section 212 extending horizontally along the front-rear direction D1, and an upper turning section 213 connecting between the upper vertical section 211 and the upper horizontal section 212. The upper vertical section 211 has a first upper holding portion 211a, an upper extension portion 211b extending downward from the first upper holding portion 211a, and an upper solder portion 211c extending rearward from the upper extension portion 211b, and the upper solder portions 211c of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b are soldered to a circuit board (not shown) by surface mount technology (SMT), for example. The upper horizontal section 212 has a second upper holding portion 212a, and an upper cantilever portion 212b extending forward from the second upper holding portion 212a.

[0089] The upper insulating frame 22 has a first covering portion 221 extending along the left-right direction D2 and covering the first upper holding portions 211a of the upper vertical sections 211, and a second covering portion 222 extending along the left-right direction D2 and covering the second upper holding portions 212a of the upper horizontal sections 212, wherein the first covering portion 221 is located relatively rearward, and the second covering portion 222 is located relatively forward. In addition, the first covering portion 221 and the second covering portion 222 are made of an insulating material such as plastic, and cover the first upper holding portions 211a and the second upper holding portions 212a by insert molding, but are not limited thereto. The first covering portion 221 has a plurality of first grooves 221a corresponding to positions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b. In detail, in this embodiment, the plurality of first grooves 221a are formed rearward from a front end surface of the first covering portion 221, and extend to surfaces of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, so that front surfaces of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b are exposed, but it should be noted that in other embodiments, the plurality of first grooves 221a can not extend to the surfaces of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, and in this case, the front surfaces of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b are not exposed from the first covering portion 221.

[0090] In addition, when the plurality of first grooves 221a extend to the surface of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, so that the front surface of the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b is exposed, in order to enable the first upper holding portions 211a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b to be stably held by the first covering portion 221, in the present embodiment, the portions of the first upper holding portions 211a of the upper ground terminals 21b on both sides in the left-right direction D2 are covered by the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulating frame 22 and are not exposed from the first grooves 221a. In detail, each of the both sides of the first upper holding portions 211a of each of the upper ground terminals 21b is formed with an inclined surface 211d that is inclined toward the position of the first groove 221a, and the inclined surface 211d is covered by the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulating frame 22 and is not exposed from the first groove 221a.

[0091] By directly covering the upper vertical segments 211 of the plurality of upper terminals 21 with the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulating frame 22, the coplanarity of the upper soldering portions 211c of the upper vertical segments 211 of the plurality of upper terminals 21 can be ensured, so as to facilitate the subsequent soldering operation with the circuit board, and since the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulating frame 22 does not need subsequent heating treatment operation, the pitch of the plurality of upper terminals 21 can be maintained and the signal integrity of the plurality of upper terminals 21 can be prevented from being affected. In addition, by the plurality of first grooves 221a corresponding to the positions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, the amount of insulating material used for covering the plurality of upper terminals 21 can be reduced, so as to shorten the electronic path and concentrate the amount of insulating material on the pair of upper signal terminals, so as to increase the coupling amount between the upper signal terminals 21a of the pair of upper signal terminals and reduce the crosstalk between the pair of upper signal terminals, and further improve the signal integrity.

[0092] In addition, in the present embodiment, the first covering portion 221 further has a plurality of windows 221b that respectively correspond to the positions of the plurality of first grooves 221a and respectively surround portions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b with air. Since the plurality of windows 221b surround the portions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b with air, the signal integrity can be further improved.

[0093] Referring to Figure 5 , Figure 7 , Figure 10 and Figure 11The second covering portion 222 of the upper insulating frame 22 has a plurality of second grooves 222a corresponding to positions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b. In detail, in the present embodiment, the plurality of second grooves 222a are formed downward from a top surface of the second covering portion 222 and extend to upper surfaces of the second upper holding portions 212a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b. Like the plurality of first grooves 221a, the plurality of second grooves 222a can also not extend to the upper surfaces of the second upper holding portions 212a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b in other embodiments. In addition, when the plurality of second grooves 222a extend to the upper surfaces of the second upper holding portions 212a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, in order to enable the second upper holding portions 212a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b to be stably held by the second covering portion 222, portions of the second upper holding portions 212a of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b on both side edges in the left-right direction D2 are covered by the second covering portion 222 of the upper insulating frame 22 and do not protrude from the second grooves 222a. Like the plurality of first grooves 221a, the plurality of second grooves 222a also have the same effect of improving signal integrity.

[0094] Referring to Figure 5 and Figures 12 to 15 The lower terminal module 3 includes a plurality of lower terminals 31 arranged side by side in the left-right direction D2 and a lower insulating frame 32 for fixing the plurality of lower terminals 31. The plurality of lower terminals 31 includes a plurality of lower signal terminals 31a and a plurality of lower ground terminals 31b. The plurality of lower signal terminals 31a forms a plurality of lower signal terminal pairs spaced apart by the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b. In detail, in the present embodiment, one of the lower signal terminal pairs is arranged between each of two adjacent lower ground terminals 31b. Each of the lower terminals 31 has a lower vertical section 311 extending vertically in the up-down direction D3 and a lower horizontal section 312 extending horizontally in the front-back direction D1 and connected to the lower vertical section 311. The lower horizontal section 312 has a lower holding portion 312a and a lower cantilever portion 312b extending forward from the lower holding portion 312a. The lower vertical section 311 has a lower extension portion 311a and a lower soldering portion 311b extending forward from the lower extension portion 311a. The lower soldering portions 311b of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b are used to be soldered to the circuit board by surface mount technology (SMT), for example.

[0095] The lower insulating frame 32 has a covering portion 321 covering the lower holding portions 312a of the lower horizontal sections 312. The covering portion 321 is made of, for example, an insulating material such as plastic, and covers the lower holding portions 312a by insert molding, but is not limited thereto. The covering portion 321 of the lower insulating frame 32 has a plurality of third grooves 321a corresponding to positions of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b. In detail, in the present embodiment, the plurality of third grooves 321a are formed upward from a bottom surface of the covering portion 321, and extend to lower surfaces of the lower holding portions 312a of the lower ground terminals 31b. As with the plurality of first grooves 221a, the plurality of third grooves 321a can not extend to the lower surfaces of the lower holding portions 312a of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b in other embodiments. In addition, when the plurality of third grooves 321a extend to the lower surfaces of the lower holding portions 312a of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b, in order to enable the lower holding portions 312a of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b to be stably held by the covering portion 321, portions of the lower holding portions 312a of the plurality of lower ground terminals 31b on both side edges in the left-right direction D2 are covered by the covering portion 321 of the lower insulating frame 32 and do not protrude from the third grooves 321a. As with the plurality of first grooves 221a, the plurality of third grooves 321a also have the same effect of improving signal integrity.

[0096] Referring to Figures 1 to 5The upper insulating frame 22 of the upper terminal module 2 and the lower insulating frame 32 of the lower terminal module 3 are disposed together in the mounting slot 12 of the insulating body 1, and the upper cantilever portions 212b of the plurality of upper terminals 21 and the lower cantilever portions 312b of the plurality of lower terminals 31 extend forward to the mating slot 11 of the insulating body 1. In detail, the upper insulating frame 22 of the upper terminal module 2 and the lower insulating frame 32 of the lower terminal module 3 are inserted into the mounting slot 12 from the rear end opening 121 of the mounting slot 12, and the upper solder portion 211c of the upper terminal 21 of the upper terminal module 2 and the lower solder portion 311b of the lower terminal 31 of the lower terminal module 3 extend from the bottom opening 122 of the mounting slot 12 for soldering to the circuit board. The second covering portion 222 of the upper insulating frame 22 of the upper terminal module 2 and the covering portion 321 of the lower insulating frame 32 of the lower terminal module 3 are interlocked in a concave-convex manner. For example, the second covering portion 222 has a plurality of downwardly extending protrusions 222b, and the covering portion 321 has a plurality of recesses 321b that are interlocked with the plurality of protrusions 222b. In addition, in this embodiment, the upper insulating frame 22 also has two upper fastening portions 223 formed on the top surface of the second covering portion 222, and two side fastening portions 224 formed on the lower ends of both sides, and the lower insulating frame 32 also has two lower fastening portions 322 formed on the bottom surface of the covering portion 321. The insulating body 1 has a plurality of fastened portions 13 corresponding to the two upper fastening portions 223, the two side fastening portions 224 and the two lower fastening portions 322 respectively. For example, the upper fastening part 223, the side fastening part 224 and the lower fastening part 322 are in the shape of fastening blocks, while the fastened part 13 is in the shape of a fastening hole communicating with the mounting slot 12, but this is not a limitation.

[0097] Furthermore, the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulating frame 22 located at the rear, together with the second covering portion 222 of the upper insulating frame 22 located at the front and the covering portion 321 of the lower insulating frame 32, define an air channel A. The air channel A extends from bottom to top through the upper insulating frame 22 and communicates with a plurality of first grooves 221a, and extends rearward after passing the upper turning section 213 of the upper terminal 21. The bottom of the air channel A is exposed from the bottom opening 122 of the mounting slot 12 of the insulating body 1, and the top of the air channel A is exposed from the portion of the rear opening 121 of the mounting slot 12 of the insulating body 1 above the second covering portion 222. The air channel A improves the heat dissipation performance of the electrical connector 100.

[0098] In summary, the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulation frame 22 of the electric connector 100 directly covers the upper vertical segments 211 of the plurality of upper terminals 21 to ensure the coplanarity of the upper welding portions 211c of the upper vertical segments 211 of the plurality of upper terminals 21, facilitating the subsequent welding operation, and since the first covering portion 221 of the upper insulation frame 22 does not need subsequent heating treatment operation, the spacing of the plurality of upper terminals 21 can be maintained to avoid affecting the signal integrity of the plurality of upper terminals 21. In addition, the first covering portion 221 and the second covering portion 222 are integrally formed on the upper insulation frame 22, making the upper terminal module 2 more stable. In addition, by corresponding to the positions of the plurality of upper ground terminals 21b, the plurality of first grooves 221a can reduce the amount of insulation material used for covering the plurality of upper terminals 21, so as to shorten the electronic path, and concentrate the amount of insulation material on the upper signal terminal pair to increase the coupling amount between the upper signal terminals 21a of the upper signal terminal pair and reduce the crosstalk between the upper signal terminal pair, thereby improving the signal integrity.

[0099] However, the above is only an embodiment of the present application, which cannot limit the scope of the present application. Any simple equivalent changes and modifications made in accordance with the claims and content of the specification are still within the scope of the present application.
