Technical Field

[0003] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications and to techniques for supporting network transmissions using broadcast sidelink communications. Background Art

[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

[0005] A wireless network may include multiple base stations (BS) that can support communications of multiple user equipments (UEs). A UE may communicate with a base station (BS) via a downlink (DL) and an uplink (UL). "DL" (or "forward link") refers to a communication link from a BS to a UE, and "UL" (or "reverse link") refers to a communication link from a UE to a BS. As will be described in more detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a NodeB, a LTE evolved nodeB (eNB), a gNB, an access point (AP), a radio head, a transmit receive point (TRP), a new radio (NR) BS, or a 5G NodeB.

[0006] The above-mentioned multiple access technology has been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different UEs to communicate at a city, country, region, or even global level. NR, which can also be referred to as 5G, is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by 3GPP. NR aims to better support mobile broadband Internet access by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and better integrating with other open standards using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) (CP-OFDM) on DL, using CP-OFDM or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on UL (or a combination thereof), as well as supporting beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation. [0033] For the purpose of describing the innovative aspects of the present disclosure, the following description is directed to certain implementations. However, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the teachings herein can be applied in a variety of different ways. Some examples in the present disclosure are based on wireless and wired local area network (LAN) communications in accordance with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 wireless standard, the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard, and the IEEE 1901 Power Line Communication (PLC) standard. However, the described implementations can be implemented in any device, system, or network that is capable of communicating in accordance with any wireless communication standard, including the IEEE 802.11 standard, the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard, and the IEEE 1901 Power Line Communication (PLC) standard. Standards, code division multiple access (CDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), global system for mobile communications (GSM), GSM / general packet radio service (GPRS), enhanced data GSM environment (EDGE), terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA), wideband CDMA (W-CDMA), evolution data optimized (EV-DO), 1xEV-DO, EV-DO version A, EV-DO version B, high speed packet access (HSPA), high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), high speed uplink packet access (HSUPA), evolved high speed packet access (HSPA+), long term evolution (LTE), AMPS to send and receive radio frequency signals, or send and receive other known signals for communication in a wireless, cellular or Internet of Things (IoT) network, such as a system utilizing 3G, 4G or 5G or further implementations or technologies thereof.

[0034] In a wireless network, a base station (BS) can communicate with multiple devices, such as various user equipment (UE). In some cases, the BS can send a group of data packets to a UE by using a network coding function to encode parts of a group of data packets and broadcasting the encoded packets to the UE. However, the network coding function may randomly select data packets for encoding, and some UEs may not receive or decode each transmitted packet in each transmission. In order to increase the delivery of data packets to the UE, the BS may encode and send parts of the group of data packets multiple times (and in some cases, an unlimited number of times). As a result, the BS or UE may consume unnecessary power and generate unnecessary communication traffic to handle repeated transmissions.

[0035] Some aspects described herein provide techniques and devices for supporting network transmission of side links. In some aspects, a BS may send a group of coded packets to multiple UEs and receive feedback messages from these UEs. The feedback message from the UE may indicate a group of decoded packets. Based on (multiple) feedback messages, the BS may determine a group of decoded packets, including packets that have been decoded by at least one UE. The BS may send a group of updated coded packets based on the difference between the packet pool used to generate the group of coded packets and the group of decoded packets. In some aspects, the BS may send an instruction to a first UE to send a side link communication including a group of lost packets to a second UE. The group of lost packets may include a subset of the group of coded packets decoded by the first UE but not decoded by the second UE. In some aspects, the side link communication may be a unicast communication or a broadcast communication.

[0036] Specific implementations of the subject matter described in the present disclosure may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential advantages. For example, the described aspects may facilitate the use of broadcast sidelink transmissions to diffuse communications from a BS to UEs that do not receive or decode the communications from the BS. In addition, the aspects described herein may facilitate sending a portion of a set of coded packets to a UE, updating the set of coded packets based on feedback from the UE indicating which packets in the sent packets have been decoded by at least one UE, and sending a portion of the updated set of coded packets to the UE. The aspects described herein may facilitate instructing a UE to use sidelink communications to send decoded packets to other UEs that have not decoded the packets. In this way, the various aspects may facilitate the use of sidelink communications to propagate lost packets to the UE, rather than retransmitting lost packets from the BS to the UE. As a result, the various aspects described herein may potentially reduce power consumption, latency, and network traffic between the BS and the UE. The various aspects described herein may also potentially save wireless resources and improve bandwidth efficiency.

[0037] Figure 1 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless network 100. The wireless network 100 may be or may include an element of a 5G new radio (NR) network, an LTE network, or another type of network. The wireless network 100 may include one or more base stations 110 (shown as BS 110a, BS 110b, BS 110c, and BS 110d) and other network entities. A base station (BS) is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as an NR BS, a node B, a gNB, a 5G node B (NB), an access point, or a transmit receive point (TRP). Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of a BS, a BS subsystem serving the coverage area, or a combination thereof, depending on the context in which the term is used. In some aspects, a BS may include multiple components. For example, a BS may include a decentralized random access network (RAN) or an open RAN (O-RAN) BS, which may include multiple physical devices distributed in multiple locations. In other examples, multiple devices may contribute to distributed resource allocation to support access link communication or side link communication.

[0038] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, another type of cell, or a combination thereof. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and may allow restricted access to UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 110a may be a macro BS for macro cell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS for pico cell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS for femto cell 102c. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms "eNB", "base station", "NR BS", "gNB", "TRP", "AP", "Node B", "5G NB", and "cell" may be used interchangeably herein.

[0039] In some examples, the cells may not necessarily be stationary, and the geographic area of the cells may move depending on the location of the mobile BS. In some examples, the BSs may be interconnected to each other and to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless network 100 through various types of backhaul interfaces, such as direct physical connections, virtual networks, or combinations thereof, using any suitable transport network.

[0040] The wireless network 100 may include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and transmit data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that can relay transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown, a relay base station 110d may communicate with the macro BS 110a and the UE 120d to facilitate communication between the macro BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay base station may also be referred to as a relay BS, relay base station, relay, or the like.

[0041] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs, such as a macro BS, a pico BS, a femto BS, or a relay BS, etc. These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).

[0042] A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other directly or indirectly, for example, via a wireless or wired backhaul.

[0043] Multiple UEs 120 (e.g., UE 120a, UE 120b, UE 120c, etc.) may be dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE may be stationary or mobile. UEs may also be referred to as access terminals, terminals, mobile stations, subscriber units, stations, etc. UEs may be cellular phones (e.g., smart phones), personal digital assistants (PDAs), wireless modems, wireless communication devices, handheld devices, laptop computers, cordless phones, wireless local loop (WLL) stations, tablet computers, cameras, gaming devices, netbooks, smartbooks, ultrabooks, medical devices or equipment, biometric sensors / devices, wearable devices (smart watches, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristbands, smart jewelry (e.g., smart rings, smart bracelets)), entertainment devices (e.g., music or video devices, or satellite radios), vehicle components or sensors, smart meters / sensors, industrial manufacturing equipment, global positioning system devices, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via wireless or wired media.

[0044] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors, or location tags that can communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. For example, a wireless node may provide connectivity to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) or to these networks via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer premises equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included in a housing that houses components of UE 120 (e.g., processor components, memory components, or other components). In some examples, the processor component and the memory component may be coupled together. For example, in other examples, the processor component (e.g., one or more processors) and the memory component (e.g., memory) may be operably coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, or electrically coupled.

[0045] Generally, any number of wireless networks can be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network can support a specific RAT and can operate on one or more frequencies. RAT can also be referred to as radio technology, air interface, etc. Frequency can also be referred to as carrier, channel, etc. Each frequency can support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.

[0046] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) can communicate directly (e.g., without using BS 110 as an intermediary for mutual communication) using one or more side link channels. For example, UE 120 can communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocol, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol, or the like), or mesh network. In such examples, UE 120 can perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and other operations performed by BS 110 as described elsewhere herein.

[0047] The devices of the wireless network 100 can communicate using an electromagnetic spectrum, which can be subdivided into various categories, frequency bands, or channels based on frequency or wavelength. For example, the devices of the wireless network 100 can communicate using an operating frequency band having a first frequency range (FR1), which can span from 410 MHz to 7.125 GHz. As another example, the devices of the wireless network 100 can communicate using an operating frequency band having a second frequency range (FR2), which can span from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz. The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are sometimes referred to as mid-band frequencies. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to as a "sub-6 GHz" band. Similarly, FR2 is also often referred to as a "millimeter wave" band, although it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) identified as a "millimeter wave" band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Therefore, unless otherwise stated, it should be understood that the term "sub-6 GHz" can broadly refer to frequencies less than 6 GHz, frequencies within FR1, mid-band frequencies (e.g., greater than 7.125 GHz), or a combination thereof. Similarly, unless otherwise stated, it should be understood that the term "millimeter wave" can broadly refer to frequencies within the EHF band, frequencies within FR2, mid-band frequencies (e.g., less than 24.25 GHz), or a combination thereof. It is contemplated that the frequencies included in FR1 and FR2 may be modified, and the techniques described herein are applicable to those modified frequency ranges.

[0048] Figure 2 is a diagram illustrating an example 200 of a BS 110 communicating with a UE 120 in a wireless network 100. The BS 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and the UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where in general T≥1 and R≥1.

[0049] At BS 110, transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) data for each UE based on the (multiple) MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. Transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information) and control information (e.g., CQI request, grant, or upper layer signaling), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. Transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS) or demodulation reference signals (DMRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) or secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). A transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, or reference symbols (if applicable), and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 232a through 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and upconvert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 232a through 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a through 234t, respectively.

[0050] At UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from BS 110 or other BSs and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may also process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols if applicable, and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data of UE 120 to a data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to a controller / processor 280. The term "controller / processor" may refer to one or more controllers, one or more processors, or a combination thereof. In other examples, the channel processor may determine a reference signal received power (RSRP) parameter, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) parameter, a reference signal received quality (RSRQ) parameter, or a CQI parameter. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in a housing.

[0051] The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292. The network controller 130 may include, for example, one or more devices in a core network. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BS 110 via the communication unit 294.

[0052] In other examples, antennas (e.g., antennas 234a to 234t and / or antennas 252a to 252r) may include or may be included in one or more antenna panels, antenna groups, multiple groups of antenna elements, or antenna arrays. An antenna panel, an antenna group, a group of antenna elements, or an antenna array may include one or more antenna elements. An antenna panel, an antenna group, a group of antenna elements, or an antenna array may include a group of coplanar antenna elements or a group of non-coplanar antenna elements. An antenna panel, an antenna group, a group of antenna elements, or an antenna array may include antenna elements within a single housing or antenna elements within multiple housings. An antenna panel, an antenna group, a group of antenna elements, or an antenna array may include antenna elements coupled to one or more transmit or receive components (e.g., Figure 2 One or more antenna elements of one or more components).

[0053] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, or CQI) from a controller / processor 280. The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. If applicable, the symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266, further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM or CP-OFDM), and transmitted to the BS 110. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 254) of the UE 120 may be included in a modem of the UE 120. In some aspects, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antenna(s) 252, modulators 254, demodulators 254, MIMO detectors 256, receive processors 258, transmit processors 264, or TX MIMO processors 266. A processor (e.g., controller / processor 280) and memory 282 may use the transceiver to perform aspects of any of the processes described herein.

[0054] At BS 110, uplink signals from UE 120 and other UEs may be received by antenna 234, processed by demodulator 232, detected by MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information transmitted by UE 120. Receive processor 238 may provide decoded data to data sink 239 and decoded control information to controller / processor 240. BS 110 may include communication unit 244 and may communicate with network controller 130 via communication unit 244. BS 110 may include scheduler 246 for scheduling one or more UEs 120 for downlink communication, uplink communication, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 232) of base station 110 may be included in a modem of base station 110. In some aspects, base station 110 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antenna(s) 234, modulator 232, demodulator 232, MIMO detector 236, receive processor 238, transmit processor 220, or TX MIMO processor 230. A processor (e.g., controller / processor 240) and memory 242 may use the transceiver to perform aspects of any of the processes described herein.

[0055] In some implementations, the controller / processor 280 may be a component of a processing system. A processing system may generally refer to a system or series of machines or components that receives inputs and processes the inputs to produce a set of outputs (which may be delivered to other systems or components of, for example, the UE 120). For example, a “processing system of the UE 120” may refer to a system that includes various other components or subcomponents of the UE 120.

[0056] The processing system of UE 120 may interface with other components of UE 120, and may process information (e.g., input or signal) received from other components, output information to other components, etc. For example, a chip or modem of UE 120 may include a processing system, a first interface for receiving or obtaining information, and a second interface for outputting, sending, or providing information. In some cases, the "first interface" may refer to an interface between a processing system and a receiver of a chip or modem, so that UE 120 may receive information or signal input, and the information may be passed to the processing system. In some cases, the "second interface" may refer to an interface between a processing system and a transmitter of a chip or modem, so that UE 120 may send information output from the chip or modem. One of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the second interface may also obtain or receive information or signal input, and the first interface may also output, send, or provide information.

[0057] In some implementations, controller / processor 240 may be a component of a processing system. A processing system may generally refer to a system or series of machines or components that receives inputs and processes the inputs to produce a set of outputs that may be delivered to other systems or components of, for example, base station 110. For example, “a processing system of BS 110” may refer to a system that includes various other components or subcomponents of BS 110.

[0058] The processing system of BS 110 may interface with other components of BS 110, and may process information (e.g., input or signal) received from other components, output information to other components, etc. For example, a chip or modem of BS 110 may include a processing system, a first interface for receiving or obtaining information, and a second interface for outputting, sending, or providing information. In some cases, the "first interface" may refer to an interface between a processing system and a receiver of a chip or modem, so that BS 110 may receive information or signal input, and the information may be passed to the processing system. In some cases, the "second interface" may refer to an interface between a processing system and a transmitter of a chip or modem, so that BS 110 may send information output from the chip or modem. One of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the second interface may also obtain or receive information or signal input, and the first interface may also output, send, or provide information.

[0059] The controller / processor 240 of the BS 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, or Figure 2 Any other component(s) of may perform one or more techniques associated with using broadcast sidelink communications to support network transmissions, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. For example, Figure 2 The controller / processor 240 of the BS 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, or any other component(s) (or combination of components) may perform or direct, for example, Figure 7 The process of 700 Figure 8 The process of 800 Fig. 9 10 or other processes described herein. Memory 242 and memory 282 may store data and program codes for BS 110 and UE 120, respectively. In some aspects, memory 242 and memory 282 may include non-transitory computer-readable media storing one or more instructions (e.g., code or program code) for wireless communication. For example, when one or more instructions are executed by one or more processors of BS 110 or UE 120 (e.g., directly executed, or after compilation, conversion, or interpretation), it may cause one or more processors, UE 120, or BS 110 to perform or direct, for example, Figure 7 The process of 700 Figure 8 The process of 800 Fig. 9 Operations of process 900 or other processes described herein.

[0060] In some aspects, in other examples, UE 120 may include components for receiving a set of coded packets from a BS, components for sending a feedback message indicating a set of decoded packets to the BS, components for receiving an instruction from a base station to send a broadcast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets, wherein the set of lost packets includes one or more decoded packets in the set of decoded packets, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, these components may include combining Figure 2 One or more components of the UE 120 are depicted, such as a controller / processor 280, a transmit processor 264, a TX MIMO processor 266, a MOD 254, one or more antennas 252, a DEMOD 254, a MIMO detector 256, or a receive processor 258.

[0061] In some aspects, in other examples, UE 120 may include components for receiving a set of coded packets from a BS, components for sending a feedback message indicating a first set of decoded packets to the BS, components for receiving a broadcast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets, wherein the set of lost packets includes one or more decoded packets of a second set of decoded packets that are not included in the first set of decoded packets, or a combination thereof.

[0062] In some aspects, in other examples, BS 110 may include: a component for sending a set of coded packets to multiple UEs; a component for receiving multiple feedback messages from multiple UEs, the multiple feedback messages including: a first feedback message received from a first UE, indicating a first set of decoded packets including a first subset of the set of coded packets, a second feedback message received from a second UE, indicating a second set of decoded packets including a second subset of the set of coded packets; a component for sending an instruction to the first UE, the instruction to send a broadcast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets, wherein the set of lost packets includes one or more decoded packets of the first set of decoded packets that are not included in the second set of decoded packets, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, in other examples, these components may include a combination of Figure 2 One or more components of BS 110 are depicted, such as one or more antennas 234, DEMOD 232, MIMO detector 236, receive processor 238, controller / processor 240, transmit processor 220, TX MIMO processor 230, MOD 232, or antenna 234.

[0063] Although it will Figure 2 The blocks in the diagram are illustrated as distinct components, but the functionality described above for the blocks may be implemented in a single hardware, software, or combined component, or in various combinations of components. For example, the functionality described for the transmit processor 264, the receive processor 258, the TX MIMO processor 266, or another processor may be performed by or under the control of the controller / processor 280.

[0064] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating an example 300 of sidelink communications.

[0065] like Figure 3As shown, the first UE 305-1 can communicate with the second UE 305-2 (and one or more other UEs 305) via one or more side link channels 310. UE 305-1 and 305-2 can use one or more side link channels 310 to communicate for P2P communication, D2D communication, V2X communication (e.g., which may include V2V communication, V2I communication, or V2P communication) or mesh networking. In some aspects, UE 305 (e.g., UE 305-1 or UE 305-2) may correspond to one or more other UEs described elsewhere herein, such as UE 120. In some aspects, one or more side link channels 310 may use a PC5 interface, or may operate in a high frequency band (e.g., a 5.9 GHz band). Additionally or alternatively, UE 305 may use a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) timing to synchronize the timing of a transmission time interval (TTI) (e.g., a frame, a subframe, a time slot, or a symbol).

[0066] like Figure 3 As further shown, the one or more sidelink channels 310 may include a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) 315, a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) 320, or a physical sidelink feedback channel (PSFCH) 325. The PSCCH 315 may be used to transmit control information, similar to a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) or a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) used for cellular communication with the base station 110 via an access link or access channel. The PSSCH 320 may be used to transmit data, similar to a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) or a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) used for cellular communication with the base station 110 via an access link or access channel. For example, the PSCCH 315 may carry sidelink control information (SCI) 330, which may indicate various control information for sidelink communication, such as one or more resources (e.g., time resources, frequency resources, or space resources), where a transport block (TB) 335 may be carried on the PSSCH 320. The TB 335 may include data. The PSFCH 325 may be used to transmit sidelink feedback 340, such as hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback (eg, acknowledgement or negative acknowledgement (ACK / NACK) information), transmit power control (TPC), or scheduling request (SR).

[0067] In some aspects, one or more sidelink channels 310 may use a resource pool. For example, a scheduling assignment (e.g., included in SCI 330) may be transmitted in a subchannel across time using specific resource blocks (RBs). In some aspects, a data transmission associated with a scheduling assignment (e.g., on PSSCH 320) may occupy adjacent RBs in the same subframe as the scheduling assignment (e.g., using frequency division multiplexing). In some aspects, a scheduling assignment and an associated data transmission are not transmitted on adjacent RBs.

[0068] In some aspects, the UE 305 may operate using a transmission mode in which resource selection or scheduling is performed by the UE 305 (e.g., rather than the BS 110). In some aspects, the UE 305 may perform resource selection or scheduling by sensing channel availability for transmission. For example, the UE 305 may measure received signal strength indicator (RSSI) parameters associated with various sidelink channels (e.g., sidelink-RSSI (S-RSSI) parameters), may measure reference signal received power (RSRP) parameters associated with various sidelink channels (e.g., PSSCH-RSRP parameters), may measure reference signal received quality (RSRQ) parameters associated with various sidelink channels (e.g., PSSCH-RSRQ parameters), and may select a channel for transmitting sidelink communications based at least in part on the measurement(s).

[0069] Additionally or alternatively, the UE 305 may perform resource selection or scheduling using the SCI 330 received in the PSCCH 315, which may indicate occupied resources or channel parameters. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 305 may perform resource selection or scheduling by determining a channel busy rate (CBR) associated with various sidelink channels, which may be used for rate control (e.g., by indicating a maximum number of resource blocks that the UE 305 can use for a particular set of subframes).

[0070] In a transmission mode in which resource selection or scheduling is performed by the UE 305, the UE 305 may generate sidelink grants and may send these grants in the SCI 330. For example, the sidelink grant may indicate one or more parameters (e.g., transmission parameters) to be used for an upcoming sidelink transmission, such as one or more resource blocks (e.g., for TB 335) to be used for an upcoming sidelink transmission on the PSSCH 320, one or more subframes to be used for an upcoming sidelink transmission, or a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) to be used for an upcoming sidelink transmission. In some aspects, the UE 305 may generate a sidelink grant that indicates one or more parameters of a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS), such as a periodicity of the sidelink transmission. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 305 may generate a sidelink grant for event-driven scheduling, such as for an on-demand sidelink message.

[0071] Figure 4 is a diagram illustrating an example 400 of side link communications and access link communications.

[0072] like Figure 4 As shown, the transmitter (Tx) / receiver (Rx) UE 405 and the Rx / Tx UE 410 can communicate with each other via a side link, as described above in conjunction with Figure 3 As further shown, in some sidelink modes, BS 110 can communicate with Tx / Rx UE 405 via a first access link. Additionally or alternatively, in some sidelink modes, BS 110 can communicate with Rx UE 410 via a second access link. Tx / Rx UE 405 or Rx / Tx UE 410 can correspond to one or more UEs described elsewhere herein, such as Figure 1 120. Therefore, the direct link between the UE 120 (e.g., via the PC5 interface) may be referred to as a side link, and the direct link between the BS 110 and the UE 120 (e.g., via the Uu interface) may be referred to as an access link. Side link communications may be transmitted via the side link, and access link communications may be transmitted via the access link. Access link communications may be downlink communications (from the BS 110 to the UE 120) or uplink communications (from the UE 120 to the BS 110).

[0073] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example call flow 500. Figure 5 As shown, BS 110 (e.g. Figure 1-4 Depicted in and together with Figure 1-4 The BS 110 described herein) and a plurality of UEs 120 (shown as UE A, UE B, and UE M) (e.g. Figure 1-4 Depicted in and together with Figure 1-4 In some aspects, BS 110 may communicate with UE 120 via access link communications, and UEs may communicate with each other via side link communications.

[0074] As shown in reference numeral 505, BS 110 may send a set of coded packets to UE 120. In some aspects, BS 110 may generate the set of coded packets using a network code coding function f operating on a packet pool S. For example, the packet pool S may include a set of data packets {p1, p2, ..., pn} to be transmitted. For example, BS 110 may generate a set of f(S) coded packets {q1, q2, ..., qm} corresponding to a portion of the packet pool S {p1, p2, p3}. In some aspects, the network code coding function may include a random matrix.

[0075] BS 110 may send the set of coded packets using an access link between BS 110 and each UE 120. Each UE 120 may receive a subset of the set of coded packets. The subset of coded packets received by a UE 120 may include packets that are different from a subset of coded packets received by another UE 120.

[0076] As indicated by reference numeral 510, each UE 120 decodes a coded packet in the set of coded packets received by the particular UE 120. In some aspects, the UE 120 may decode the received coded packets using a decoding function corresponding to the encoding function used by the BS 110 to generate the set of coded packets. In some aspects, the BS 110 may send the decoding function to the UE 120.

[0077] In some aspects, BS 110 may send a network coding configuration to UE 120 (e.g., UE A 120). The network coding configuration may include a set of network coding parameters. In some aspects, the set of network coding parameters may indicate a network coding algorithm, a coding function, a coding matrix, a maximum number of decoding iterations, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the network coding configuration may be carried in a media access control (MAC) control element (MAC-CE), a downlink control information (DCI), a radio resource control (RRC) message, or a combination thereof.

[0078] In some aspects, the network coding configuration may be updated. For example, in some aspects, BS 110 may determine that the performance of UE 120 associated with the set of network coding parameters satisfies a poor performance threshold. In some aspects, BS 110 may determine that the performance of UE 120 satisfies the poor performance threshold by receiving a network coding parameter change request from UE 120. In some aspects, the network coding parameter change request may be carried in at least one of a MAC-CE, uplink control information (UCI), or a combination thereof.

[0079] In some aspects, BS 110 may send a set of additional network coding parameters to UE 120 based on determining that the performance of UE 120 meets the poor performance threshold. In some aspects, the set of additional network coding parameters may be carried in at least one of a MAC-CE, a DCI, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, BS 110 may send a set of additional network coding parameters to UE 120 as part of a configuration message, and may send a network coding parameter switching indication to UE 120 based on determining that the performance of UE 120 meets the poor performance threshold. In some aspects, the network coding parameter switching indication may be configured to cause UE 120 to instantiate the set of additional network coding parameters. In some aspects, the network coding parameter switching indication may be carried in at least one of a MAC-CE, a DCI, or a combination thereof.

[0080] As shown in reference numeral 515, UE 120 may send and BS 110 may receive multiple feedback messages. The feedback messages may include feedback indicating the coded packets decoded by each UE 120. For example, UE A 120 may send a first feedback message indicating a first set of decoded packets including a first subset of the set of coded packets. As shown, for example, the feedback message from UE A 120 may indicate that UE A 120 decoded packet p1. UE B 120 may send a second feedback message indicating a second set of decoded packets including a second subset of the set of coded packets. As shown, for example, the feedback message from UE B 120 may indicate that UE B 120 decoded packets p2 and p3. Similarly, as shown, for example, the feedback message from UE M 120 may indicate that UE M 120 decoded packet p3.

[0081] In some aspects, the feedback message may include a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) status report, a radio link control (RLC) status report, a medium access control (MAC) hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback message, a dedicated decoding feedback message, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the dedicated decoding feedback message may include a network coding sublayer report.

[0082] As shown in reference numeral 520, BS 110 may generate a set of updated coded packets. For example, in some aspects, BS 110 may determine a group of decoded packets based on the feedback message. BS 110 may generate the set of updated coded packets based on the difference between the packet pool S used to generate the set of f(S) coded packets and the group of decoded packets. For example, in some aspects, BS 110 may generate an updated packet pool S' by subtracting each data packet decoded by at least one UE 120 from the packet pool S. The set of f(S') updated coded packets may be generated using the same encoding function f used to generate the set of f(S) coded packets.

[0083] As indicated by reference numeral 525, BS 110 may send and UE 120 may receive the set of f(S') updated coded packets. For example, BS 110 may generate a set of f(S') coded packets {q'1, q'2, ..., q'm} corresponding to a portion {p4, p5, p6} of the updated packet pool S'. As indicated by reference numeral 530, BS 110 may send an instruction to UE A 120 to send a unicast sidelink communication including the set of lost packets to UE B 120. In some aspects, the instruction to send the unicast sidelink communication may be an instruction to send the communication in a unicast manner. As indicated by reference numeral 540, BS 110 may send an instruction to UE A 120 to send a unicast sidelink communication including the set of lost packets to UE B 120. In some aspects, the instruction to send the unicast sidelink communication may be an instruction to send the communication in a unicast manner. Figure 5 As shown, for example, the set of lost packets (shown as including packet p1) may include one or more decoded packets in the first set of decoded packets (the set of packets decoded by UE A 120) that are not included in the second set of decoded packets (the set of packets decoded by UE B 120).

[0084] In some aspects, the instructions may also indicate one or more other transmissions to one or more other UEs. For example, as shown, the instructions may also indicate that UE A 120 transmit a unicast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets (shown as including packet p1) to UE M 120. In some aspects, BS 110 may transmit the instructions to UE A 120 using a unicast transmission, which may include a transmission sent in a unicast manner.

[0085] Based on the instruction, as shown in reference numeral 535, UE A 120 may send the group of lost packets (packet p1) to UE B 120 and UE M 120. In some aspects, UE A 120 may use unicast side link communication to send the group of lost packets. In some aspects, BS 110 may send a side link configuration to UE A 120, and the instruction may be based on the side link configuration. In some aspects, the instruction may also be based on a side link topology associated with UE A 120. In some aspects, BS 110 may receive an indication of a side link topology from UE A 120. In some aspects, the side link topology may indicate any number of side link connections between UE A 120 and any number of other UEs. For example, the side link topology may indicate a side link connection between UE A 120 and UE B 120. In some aspects, based on determining a change in the side link topology, UE A 120 may send and BS 110 may receive an update of the side link topology. In some aspects, BS 110 may receive an indication of the sidelink topology from any UE 120 .

[0086] According to various aspects, BS 110 may send any number of instructions to UE 120. For example, as indicated at reference numeral 540, BS 110 may send instructions to UE B 120 to send unicast sidelink communications including a set of lost packets to UE A 120 and to send unicast sidelink communications including a set of lost packets to UE M 120. As shown, for example, BS 110 may instruct UE B 120 to send packets p2 and p3 to UE A 120, and to send packet p2 to UE M 120. Based on the instructions, UE B 120 may send a set of lost packets (packets p2 and p3) to UE A 120, and a set of lost packets (packet p2) to UE M 120, as indicated at reference numeral 545.

[0087] As indicated at reference numeral 550, BS 110 may send an instruction to UE M 120 to send a unicast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets to UE A 120. As shown, for example, BS 110 may instruct UE M 120 to send packet p3 to UE A 120. Based on the instruction, UE M 120 may send a set of lost packets (packets p3) to UE A 120, as indicated at reference numeral 555.

[0088] As indicated by reference numeral 560, each UE 120 may decode the received coded packets. For example, in some aspects, a UE 120 may decode a subset of the set of updated coded packets received by the UE 120 and a set of lost packets received from another UE 120 via sidelink communication. As indicated by reference numeral 565, the UE 120 may send and the BS 110 may receive feedback messages indicating the decoded packets of the corresponding group. For example, UE A 120 may send a feedback message indicating that UE A 120 has decoded packets p1, p4, and p5. UE B 120 may send a feedback message indicating that UE B 120 has decoded packets p2, p3, and p5. UE M 120 may send a feedback message indicating that UE M 120 has decoded packets p3 and p6. According to various aspects, the feedback message may be repeated. Figure 5 The process shown continues until each UE has decoded the packets in the packet pool S.

[0089] Figure 6 600 is a diagram illustrating an example call flow. Figure 6 As shown, BS 110 (e.g. Figure 1-5 Depicted in and together with Figure 1-5 The BS 110 described herein) and a plurality of UEs 120 (shown as UE A, UE B, and UE M) (e.g. Figure 1-5 Depicted in and together with Figure 1-5 In some aspects, BS 110 may communicate with UE 120 via access link communications, and UE 120 may communicate with each other via side link communications.

[0090] As shown in reference numeral 605, BS 110 may send a set of coded packets (e.g., shown as packets p1, p2, and p3) to UE 120. In some aspects, BS 110 may generate the set of coded packets using a network code coding function f operating on a pool of packets S. For example, the pool of packets S may include a set of data packets {p1, p2, ..., pn} to be transmitted. For example, BS 110 may generate a set of f(S) coded packets {q1, q2, ..., qm} corresponding to a portion of the pool of packets S {p1, p2, p3}. In some aspects, the network code coding function may include a random matrix.

[0091] BS 110 may send the set of coded packets using an access link between BS 110 and each UE 120. Each UE 120 may receive a subset of the set of coded packets. The subset of coded packets received by a UE 120 may include packets that are different from a subset of coded packets received by another UE 120.

[0092] As indicated by reference numeral 610, each UE 120 decodes a coded packet in the set of coded packets received by the particular UE 120. In some aspects, the UE 120 may decode the received coded packets using a decoding function corresponding to the encoding function used by the BS 110 to generate the set of coded packets. In some aspects, the BS 110 may send the decoding function to the UE 120.

[0093] In some aspects, BS 110 may send a network coding configuration to UE 120 (e.g., UE A 120). The network coding configuration may include a set of network coding parameters. In some aspects, the set of network coding parameters may indicate at least one of a network coding algorithm, a coding function, a coding matrix, a maximum number of decoding iterations, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the network coding configuration may be carried in at least one of a MAC-CE, a DCI, an RRC message, or a combination thereof.

[0094] In some aspects, the network coding configuration may be updated. In some aspects, the network coding parameter change request may be carried in at least one of a MAC-CE, a UCI, or a combination thereof.

[0095] In some aspects, BS 110 may send a set of additional network coding parameters to UE 120 based on determining that the performance of UE 120 meets the poor performance threshold.

[0096] As shown in reference numeral 615, UE 120 may send and BS 110 may receive multiple feedback messages.

[0097] In some aspects, the feedback message may include a PDCP status report, an RLC status report, a MAC HARQ feedback message, a dedicated decoding feedback message, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the dedicated decoding feedback message may include a network coding sublayer report.

[0098] As shown in reference numeral 620, BS 110 may generate a set of updated coded packets.

[0099] As indicated by reference numeral 625, BS 110 may send, and UE 120 may receive, the set of f(S') updated coded packets. For example, BS 110 may generate a set of f(S') coded packets {q'1, q'2, ..., q'm} corresponding to a portion {p4, p5, p6} of the updated packet pool S'. As indicated by reference numeral 630, BS 110 may send instructions to UE A 120, UE B 120, and UE M 120 to send a broadcast sidelink communication including a set of lost packets to UE B 120. In some aspects, the instruction to send the broadcast sidelink communication may be an instruction to send the communication in a broadcast manner. For example, as shown in FIG. Figure 6As shown, the set of lost packets may include one or more decoded packets in the first set of decoded packets that are not included in the second set of decoded packets. In some aspects, BS 110 may send instructions to UE 120 using a unicast transmission, which may include a transmission sent in a unicast manner.

[0100] Based on these instructions, as shown in reference numeral 635, UE A 120, UE B 120 and UE M 120 can use broadcast communication to send the lost packets of the corresponding group to other UEs 120. In some aspects, BS 110 can send a side link configuration to one or more UEs 120, and these instructions can be based on the side link configuration. In some aspects, in other examples, the side link configuration can indicate a side link transmission resource, a frequency configuration and / or a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) pool. In some aspects, these instructions can also be based on one or more side link topologies associated with one or more UEs 120. In some aspects, BS 110 can receive an indication of the side link topology from UE 120. In some aspects, the side link topology can indicate any number of side link connections between UE 120 and any number of other UEs. For example, the side link topology can indicate a side link connection between UE A 120 and UE B 120. In some aspects, based on determining a change in the side link topology, UE 120 can send and BS 110 can receive an update to the side link topology.

[0101] As indicated by reference numeral 640, each UE 120 may decode the received coded packets. For example, in some aspects, a UE 120 may decode a subset of the set of updated coded packets received by the UE 120 and a set of lost packets received from another UE 120 via sidelink communication. As indicated by reference numeral 645, the UE 120 may send and the BS 110 may receive feedback messages indicating the decoded packets of the corresponding groups. Figure 6 The process shown continues until each UE has decoded the packets in the packet pool S.

[0102] Figure 7 700 is a diagram illustrating an example process 700 performed, for example, by a UE. Figure 1-6 Depicted in and together with Figure 1-5An example of a UE 120) being described that performs operations associated with network transmission supporting a sidelink.
