[0018] As used herein, the term "aerosol generating material" is a material that can generate an aerosol, for example, when heated, radiated, or supplied with energy in any other way. The aerosol generating material can be, for example, in the form of a solid, a liquid, or a gel, which may or may not contain active substances and / or flavorings. The aerosol generating material can include any plant-based material, such as a tobacco-containing material, and can, for example, include one or more of tobacco, tobacco derivatives, expanded tobacco, reconstituted tobacco, or tobacco substitutes. The aerosol generating material can also include other non-tobacco products, which may or may not contain nicotine depending on the product. The aerosol generating material can, for example, be in the form of a solid, a liquid, a gel, a wax, etc. The aerosol generating material can, for example, also be a combination or blend of materials. The aerosol generating material can also be referred to as a "smokable material".
[0019] The aerosol generating material may include a binder and an aerosol forming agent. Optionally, an activating agent and / or a filler may also be present. Optionally, a solvent may also be present, such as water, and one or more other components of the aerosol generating material may or may not be dissolved in the solvent. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating material is substantially free of plant material. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating material is substantially free of tobacco.
[0020] The aerosol generating material may include or may be an "amorphous solid". The amorphous solid may be a "monolithic solid". In some embodiments, the amorphous solid may be a dried gel. An amorphous solid is a solid material that may retain some fluid (e.g., liquid) inside it. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating material may, for example, include from about 50 wt%, 60 wt%, or 70 wt% amorphous solid to about 90 wt%, 95 wt%, or 100 wt% amorphous solid.
[0021] The aerosol-generating material may comprise an aerosol-generating film. The aerosol-generating film may comprise or may be a sheet material, which may optionally be shredded to form shredded material. The sheet material may be a rolled sheet material. The aerosol-generating sheet material or shredded material may be substantially free of tobacco.
[0022] According to the present disclosure, a "non-flammable" aerosol supply system is a system in which the constituent aerosol generating materials of the aerosol supply system (or components thereof) facilitate delivery of at least one substance to a user without combustion or ignition.
[0023] In some embodiments, the delivery system is a non-flammable aerosol supply system, for example, a powered non-flammable aerosol supply system.
[0024] In some embodiments, the non-flammable aerosol delivery system is an electronic cigarette, also known as a vaping device or an electronic nicotine delivery system (END), although it should be noted that the presence of nicotine in the aerosol-generating material is not required.
[0025] In some embodiments, the non-flammable aerosol supply system is an aerosol generating material heating system, also known as a heat-not-burn system. An example of such a system is a tobacco heating system.
[0026] In some embodiments, the non-flammable aerosol supply system is a hybrid system that uses a combination of aerosol generating materials to generate an aerosol, wherein one or more of the aerosol generating materials can be heated. Each aerosol generating material can be, for example, in the form of a solid, liquid or gel, and may or may not contain nicotine. In some embodiments, the hybrid system includes a liquid or gel aerosol generating material and a solid aerosol generating material. The solid aerosol generating material can include, for example, tobacco or non-tobacco products.
[0027] Generally, a non-flammable aerosol supply system may include a non-flammable aerosol supply device and an article, which is generally a consumable for use with the non-flammable aerosol supply device.
[0028] In some embodiments, the present disclosure relates to consumables that include an aerosol generating material and are configured for use with a non-flammable aerosol supply device. These consumables are sometimes referred to as articles in the present disclosure.
[0029] In some embodiments, a non-flammable aerosol supply system, such as a non-flammable aerosol supply device thereof, may include a power source and a controller. The power source may be, for example, an electrical power source or an exothermic power source. In some embodiments, the exothermic power source includes a carbon substrate that can be energized to distribute power in the form of heat to an aerosol generating material or a heat transfer material proximate to the exothermic power source.
[0030] In some embodiments, a non-flammable aerosol supply system may include an area for receiving a consumable product, an aerosol generator, an aerosol generating area, a housing, a mouthpiece, a filter, and / or an aerosol modifier.
[0031] In some embodiments, consumables for use with a non-flammable aerosol supply device may include an aerosol generating material, an aerosol generating material storage area, an aerosol generating material delivery component, an aerosol generator, an aerosol generating area, a shell, packaging material, a filter, a mouthpiece and / or an aerosol modifier.
[0032] The aerosol generating device may receive an article comprising an aerosol generating material for heating. In this context, an "article" is a component that, in use, comprises or contains an aerosol generating material that is heated to volatilize the aerosol generating material, and optionally an "article" is another component in use. A user may insert the article into the aerosol generating device before heating the article to generate an aerosol, which the user then inhales. The article may be, for example, of a predetermined or specific size, configured to be placed in a heating chamber of the device, the size of which is designed to receive the article.
[0033] refer to Figure 1 The aerosol supply system 10 comprises an aerosol supply device 100 for generating an aerosol from an aerosol generating material. The aerosol supply system 10 further comprises a replaceable article 110 comprising an aerosol generating material. In summary, the aerosol forming device 100 can be used to heat the article 110 to generate an aerosol or other inhalable medium that is inhaled by a user of the device 100.
[0034] The aerosol-forming device 100 comprises a body 102. A housing 202 surrounds and houses the various components of the body 102. A product aperture 104 is formed at one end of the body 102 through which a product 110 can be inserted to be heated by the aerosol generator 200.
[0035] The device 100 may further include a user-operable control element 150, such as a button or a switch, which when pressed operates the device 100. For example, a user may turn on the device 100 by operating the switch 150.
[0036] The aerosol generator 200 defines a longitudinal axis that is aligned with the axis of the article 110 .
[0037] In use, the article 110 may be fully or partially inserted into the aerosol generator 200 , where it may be heated by one or more components of the aerosol generator 200 .
[0038] The device 100 includes a device for heating an aerosol generating material. The device includes an aerosol generating component, a controller (control circuit) and a power source. The device forms a part of the main body 102. The aerosol generating component is configured to heat the aerosol generating material of the product 110 inserted through the product orifice 104, so that an aerosol is generated from the aerosol generating material. The power source supplies electricity to the aerosol generating component, and the aerosol generating component converts the supplied electrical energy into thermal energy for heating the aerosol generating material. The power source can be, for example, a battery, such as a rechargeable battery or a non-rechargeable battery. Examples of suitable batteries include, for example, lithium batteries (such as lithium ion batteries), nickel batteries (such as nickel-cadmium batteries) and alkaline batteries.
[0039] The power source may be electrically coupled to the aerosol generating assembly to supply power when needed and under the control of the controller to heat the aerosol generating material. The control circuit may be configured to enable and disable the aerosol generating assembly based on user input. The user input may be via a button press or opening a door of the device (e.g., a door covering a consumable receiving container). The control circuit may be configured to automatically enable and disable, for example, upon insertion of an article.
[0040] The aerosol generating assembly may include various components to heat the aerosol generating material via an induction heating process. Induction heating is a process of heating a conductive heating element (e.g., a susceptor) by electromagnetic induction. The induction heating assembly may include an induction element, such as one or more induction coils, and a device for passing a varying current (e.g., an alternating current) through the induction element. The varying current in the induction element generates a varying magnetic field. The varying magnetic field penetrates a susceptor (heating element) appropriately positioned relative to the induction element, and generates eddy currents in the susceptor. The susceptor has a resistance to the eddy currents, so the flow of the eddy currents against this resistance causes the susceptor to be heated by Joule heating. In the case where the susceptor includes a ferromagnetic material (e.g., iron, nickel, or cobalt), heat may also be generated by hysteresis losses in the susceptor, i.e., by the changing orientation of magnetic dipoles in the magnetic material, the changing orientation of the magnetic dipoles being the result of the alignment of the magnetic dipoles with the varying magnetic field. In induction heating, heat is generated inside the susceptor, thereby allowing rapid heating, compared to, for example, heating by conduction. In addition, no physical contact is required between the induction element and the susceptor, thereby allowing enhanced freedom in structure and application.
[0041] refer to Figure 2 The aerosol supply device 10 comprises a housing 202 and a cover 204. The aerosol supply device 10 has a mouth end 205 from which a user can inhale an aerosol. The aerosol supply device 10 also has a distal end 207 opposite to the mouth end 205. The aerosol supply device 10 has an elongated shape defining a longitudinal direction.
[0042] The housing 202 includes a cavity. The cavity can be an energy storage compartment, such as a compartment for accommodating a battery (not shown). The aerosol supply device 10 can be electrically connected to the cavity so that the energy storage device accommodated in the cavity can be used to supply electrical energy to operate the aerosol supply device 10. The housing 202 includes an orifice 203, which provides access to the cavity, such as to insert and / or remove the battery. In this embodiment, the orifice 203 is positioned at the distal end 207 of the aerosol supply device 10. The housing 202 further includes a housing connector 206, which is configured to engage with the cover 204 to keep the cover 204 in place. The housing connector 206 is positioned in the orifice 203. The housing connector 206 extends inward from the housing 202 toward the center of the orifice 203.
[0043] The cover 204 is configured to close the aperture 203. The cover 204 includes a cover connector 208, which can engage with the housing connector 206 so that the cover 204 can be releasably attached to the housing 202. The cover 204 can move between a connection position and a non-connection position relative to the housing 202. In the connection position, the cover connector 208 engages with the housing connector 206 to resist the relative movement between the housing 202 and the cover 204. In the connection position, the cover 204 closes at least a portion of the aperture 203. In the non-connection position, the cover connector 208 is spaced apart from the housing connector 206 (i.e., not engaged with the housing connector 206) so that the cover 204 can move relative to the housing 202. In the non-connection position, the cover 204 can be removed from the aperture 203, thereby allowing access to the cavity through the aperture 203. Advantageously, this arrangement provides a simple and / or effective way in which a cavity, such as a battery compartment, can be selectively approached and covered. Thus, the time and effort spent replacing, repairing or recycling a battery tends to be reduced by the above arrangement.
[0044] In this embodiment, the housing connector overlaps the aperture, covering a portion of the aperture. In other embodiments, the housing connector does not overlap the aperture. In some embodiments, the cover completely closes the aperture. In other embodiments, the cover does not close the entire aperture, for example, the cover can be configured to close a limited portion of the aperture. In this embodiment, the movement of the cover from the connected position to the non-connected position includes rotation of the cover relative to the housing around the longitudinal direction. In other embodiments, the movement of the cover from the connected position to the non-connected position does not include rotation of the cover relative to the housing around the longitudinal direction, for example, the movement can include linear movement.
[0045] refer to Figure 3A and Figure 3B The housing connector 206 includes two housing collars 302. Each housing collar 302 can be considered as a protrusion, or a lip, or a flange. The housing collar 302 extends radially inward from the inner wall of the cavity of the housing 202.
[0046] The cover connector 208 includes two cover edges 304. The cover edges 304 extend radially outward from the cover 204. Each cover edge 304 defines a corresponding channel. Each channel can be considered a slot, groove or flange. Each channel is sized to receive a corresponding housing collar 302 therein. Each housing collar 302 has a shape that is complementary to its corresponding channel. Each housing collar 302 can be received in its corresponding channel. In the connection position ( Figure 3B ), each housing collar 302 is positioned within its corresponding channel, thereby preventing the cover 204 from moving in the longitudinal direction relative to the housing 202. In the connected position, the cover edge 304 is inside the cavity.
[0047] In the connected position, each housing collar 302 abuts and / or engages the cover rim 304 in a longitudinal direction to resist movement that could separate the cover 204 from the housing 202 .
[0048] The housing connector 206 and the cover connector 208 extend in a circumferential direction relative to the aperture 203. As explained in more detail below, the total circumferential extent of the housing connector 206 and the cover connector 208 is less than the circumference of the aperture 203.
[0049] The inner radial spacing between the two housing collars 302 is less than the distance between the radial outer edges of the two cover rims 304. Thus, when each housing collar 302 is received within its respective channel, the cover 304 is retained by the housing 202 because the cover rim 304 cannot move past the housing collar 302 and through the aperture 203. The housing collar 302 and the cover rim 304 overlap in the connected position.
[0050] The diameter of the aperture 203 is substantially equal to or greater than the distance between the radially outer edges of the two cover rims 304. The inner radial spacing between the two housing collars 302 is substantially equal to or greater than the outer distance between opposing portions of the cover 202 where the two cover rims 304 do not exist.
[0051] In order to releasably attach the cover 202 to the housing 204, the cover 202 is first arranged so that the cover edge 304 is aligned with the portion of the housing without the housing collar 304, and / or the housing collar 304 is aligned with the portion of the cover 204 without the cover edge 304. In this arrangement, the cover 204 can be moved into and / or through the aperture 203 in the longitudinal direction. This is possible because the total circumferential extent of the housing connector and the cover connector is less than the circular length of the aperture. The circumferential spacing between the housing collars 302 is greater than the circumferential extent of each cover edge 304. The circumferential spacing between the cover edges 304 is greater than the circumferential extent of each housing collar 302.
[0052] The cover 204 is then rotated about the longitudinal axis so that the cover rim 304 engages and / or abuts the housing collar 302 and the housing collar 302 is received within its corresponding channel. In this position, the cover 204 is held in position relative to the housing 202. Advantageously, this arrangement can ensure that the opposing edges of the cover 204 are fixed to the housing 202, thereby improving the retention of the cover 204 to the housing 202.
[0053] To disengage the cover 202 from the housing 204, the cover 202 is rotated in the opposite direction so that the cover edge 304 is aligned with the portion of the housing 202 without the housing flange 304, and / or the housing flange 304 is aligned with the portion of the cover 204 without the cover edge 304. In this arrangement, the cover 204 can be moved out and / or through the aperture 203.
[0054] In this embodiment, the cover is a substantially circular shape. In other embodiments, the cover is not a circular shape, for example, the cover can have a square or diamond shape. In this embodiment, the cover connector includes two channels. Each channel is configured to receive a corresponding flange. In other embodiments, the cover connector does not include two channels, for example, the cover connector can include only one channel, or the cover connector can include a flange. In some embodiments, the channel can be positioned on the adjacent side of the cover. In this embodiment, the housing connector includes two flanges. In other embodiments, the housing connector does not include two flanges, for example, the housing connector can include only one flange, or the housing connector can include a channel instead. In some embodiments, the flange can be positioned on the adjacent side of the housing.
[0055] refer to Figure 4 and Figure 5 , the cover 204 includes a cover limiter 402. The housing 202 includes a housing limiter 502. The cover limiter 402 is configured to contact the housing limiter 502 on the housing 202 to limit the cover 204 from moving beyond the connected position. In other words, the cover limiter 402 engages with the housing limiter 502 in the connected position to prevent further rotation of the cover 204 relative to the housing 202 (in either direction). Figure 4 In the illustrated embodiment, the cover limiter 402 includes two struts. Each strut extends in a direction perpendicular to the plane defined by the cover 402, i.e., in a longitudinal direction. Each strut is configured to engage with a corresponding housing limiter 502 to hold the cover in place when in the connected position.
[0056] In this embodiment, the lid limiter includes two pillars. In other embodiments, the lid limiter does not include two pillars, for example, the lid limiter may include only one pillar, or the lid limiter may include a flexible arm. In some embodiments, the lid limiter may be a protrusion.
[0057] refer to Figure 5 In some embodiments, the housing 202 includes a housing limiter 502. The housing limiter 502 is configured to engage with the cover limiter 402 to limit the cover 204 from moving beyond the connected position. Figure 5In the illustrated embodiment, the housing limiter 502 includes two deformable arms 503. Each arm 503 is configured to engage with a corresponding pillar of the cover limiter 402. Each arm 503 is sized so that when the pillar rotates, its corresponding pillar applies force to the arm 502, thereby deforming the arm 502. The force applied to the arm 503 can be in the circumferential direction and / or the radial direction. Each arm 503 includes a recess 504, in which its corresponding pillar rests in the connected position. Since the arm 503 includes a radially extending protrusion, a recess 504 is formed, wherein the protrusion contacts the pillar. The recess 504 can be considered as a pawl and / or snap for the cover limiter 402. When moving from the non-connected position to the connected position, the pillar on the cover 204 passes over the protrusion on the housing limiter 502. When in the connected position, the cover 204 is locked in place relative to the housing 202.
[0058] In this embodiment, the housing restraint 502 includes two deformable arms 503. In other embodiments, the housing restraint 502 does not include two deformable arms, for example, the housing restraint 502 may include only one arm, or the housing restraint 502 may instead include one or more struts.
[0059] In other embodiments, the cover restraint and housing restraint are reversed, with the struts included in the housing restraint and the arms included in the cover restraint.
[0060] In other embodiments, the cover connector and the housing connector are reversed so that the cover connector includes a lip extending radially inwardly and the housing connector includes a lip extending radially outwardly. In such embodiments, the cover can be assembled over the distal end of the housing.
[0061] Advantageously, the above arrangement of the housing limiter and the cover limiter tends to prevent the cover from being accidentally moved out of the connected position. This provides a cover that can be moved between a connected position and a non-connected position relative to the housing. In addition, when the cover is moved to the connected position, the cover connector engages the housing connector so that when the cover is in the connected position, the cover connector and the housing connector connect the cover to the housing. In addition, the cover limiter is arranged to contact the housing limiter to limit the cover from moving beyond the connected position. In this way, a releasable attachment of the cover can be provided without causing any structural weaknesses or reduction in usability.
[0062] refer to Figure 6 , a tool 602 may be provided to rotate the cover 204 to attach the cover 204 to the housing 202 or to detach the cover 204 from the housing 202. The cover 204 includes an engagement opening 604. The engagement opening 604 may be a tool engagement member. The engagement opening 604 has a shape of a central circle, wherein two opposing wings are arranged on the edge of the circle.
[0063] The tool 602 includes a head and a handle. The head includes an engagement protrusion 606 having a shape complementary to the shape of the engagement opening 604. The engagement protrusion 606 can be assembled in the engagement opening 604. The handle extends from the head. The handle has a certain length in the extension direction so that the handle can be held or grasped by a human hand. When the engagement protrusion 606 is positioned in the engagement opening 604, the rotation of the tool 602 around the head, for example, by rotating the handle around the head, will cause the cover 204 to rotate. The rotation of the cover 204 can cause the cover 204 to be attached / detached relative to the housing 202.
[0064] Advantageously, the provision of the tool 602 tends to allow easier attachment / detachment of the cover 204. Advantageously, the provision of the tool 602 can allow the cover 204 to be lighter and / or have a more compact shape, thereby making the aerosol supply device 10 smaller and / or lighter. For example, since the rotation of the cover 204 can be provided by the engagement opening, there is no need to add parts to the cover 204 to facilitate the rotation of the cover 204. In addition, the engagement opening 604 is equivalent to removing material from the cover 204, thereby making the cover 204 lighter. Advantageously, the shape of the engagement opening 604 and / or the wing portion of the engagement protrusion 606 can further facilitate the rotation of the cover 204.
[0065] In this embodiment, the tool is provided. In other embodiments, the tool is not provided. In this embodiment, the shape of the engagement opening and / or the engagement protrusion is a central circle, wherein two opposing wings are arranged on the edge of the circle. In other embodiments, the shape of the engagement opening and / or the engagement protrusion is not a central circle with two opposing wings arranged on the edge of the circle, for example, the shape of the engagement opening and / or the engagement protrusion can be a line, or two discrete circles, or an ellipse, or an irregular shape. In this embodiment, the shape of the engagement opening and the engagement protrusion is the same. In other embodiments, the shape of the engagement opening and the engagement protrusion is not the same, for example, the engagement opening is larger than the engagement protrusion. In some embodiments, a limited portion of the engagement protrusion is complementary to a limited portion of the engagement opening. In this embodiment, the cover includes the engagement opening, and the tool includes the engagement protrusion. In other embodiments, the cover does not include the engagement opening, and the tool does not include the engagement protrusion, for example, the cover includes the engagement protrusion, and the tool includes the engagement opening.
