Description

[0001] Related Applications

[0002] Pursuant to 35 U.S.C. §119(e), this application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 526,409, filed on July 12, 2023 (titled “PIVOTINGFAN”), the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field

[0003] The present invention relates to a fan with a pivoting fan housing that utilizes powerful directional airflow to simulate the wind resistance felt while performing physical fitness activities such as running, bicycling or rowing. Background Art

[0004] Exercising in a hot and stuffy environment can be uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. If a fan can direct airflow in the direction of the person during exercise, it can improve comfort and enhance exercise effectiveness. However, traditional fans usually blow air horizontally or in a fixed direction, which makes it difficult to achieve optimal airflow, especially during exercise. In addition, such traditional fans cannot simulate wind resistance during exercise. In addition, during exercise, traditional fans do not allow users to easily control airflow without affecting exercise or stopping exercise completely.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need for a portable fan that not only utilizes strong, directional vertical airflow to simulate the wind resistance felt when performing fitness activities, but also integrates with fitness equipment to allow the user to adjust the airflow without affecting the workout.

[0006] Furthermore, conventional fans that include a pivoting fan housing feature do not provide a convenient method for a user to manipulate the pivoting fan housing feature in order to adjust the fan housing to different angles between 0 degrees and 360 degrees.

[0007] Therefore, there is also a need for a portable fan that provides a handle that allows the angle of the pivoting fan housing to be adjusted in a more convenient manner. Summary of the invention

[0008] A fan is provided, comprising a base and a fan housing. The base may include right and left base supports. The fan housing may be positioned between the right and left base supports. In particular, the fan housing may be rotatably coupled to the base between the right and left base supports such that the fan housing may rotate relative to the base at least between 0 and 180 degrees.

[0009] The blower assembly may further be positioned within the interior space of the fan housing. The blower assembly may have at least one motor for rotating the blower to generate airflow. In one example, the blower assembly may be a centrifugal blower.

[0010] The air outlet can be further positioned near the blower assembly, allowing air to leave the interior space of the fan housing. A vertical grille can be positioned near the air outlet. The vertical grille allows the airflow to be oriented vertically along the X-axis or height of the fan. In other words, when in operation, the fan of the present invention can blow air specifically along the vertical plane of the user, thereby allowing the user to feel more air along the vertical plane of the user's body (i.e., the longitudinal plane and / or the frontal plane). This application is particularly useful in fitness or exercise, where the user can feel more airflow along a greater length of the longitudinal plane or axis of the user when performing physical exercise.

[0011] In another example, the fan of the present invention may include a base, a fan housing positioned on the base, and a blower assembly having a motor positioned in the interior space of the fan housing for rotating the blower to generate airflow. An air outlet may be further positioned near the blower assembly to allow air to leave the interior space of the fan housing. The air outlet may have a horizontal aspect ratio. A vertical grille may be positioned near the air outlet. The vertical grille may include a plurality of vertical blade elements extending along the height of the fan housing and extending outward from the blower assembly to guide airflow to be blown vertically from the fan housing.

[0012] In another example, the fan of the present invention may further include a handle that extends at least partially around the circumference of the fan housing, allowing the user to adjustably rotate or pivot the fan housing in a more convenient manner by providing multiple gripping positions for the user to grip and rotate the fan housing.

[0013] Other devices, apparatuses, systems, methods, features and advantages of the present invention will be or will become apparent to those skilled in the art after reading the following figures and detailed description. All such additional systems, methods, features and advantages should be included in this description, within the scope of the present invention, and protected by the accompanying claims. [0026] In this application, all "aspects", "examples", "implementations" and "implementations" described are considered non-limiting and non-exclusive. Therefore, the fact that a specific "aspect", "example", "implementation" or "implementation" is explicitly described herein does not exclude other "aspects", "examples", "implementations" or "implementations" from the scope of this disclosure, even if not explicitly described. In this disclosure, the terms "aspects", "examples", "implementations" or "implementations" can be used interchangeably, i.e., they are considered to have interchangeable meanings.

[0027] In addition, in this application, the terms "substantially", "approximately" or "roughly" when modifying a specified numerical value may be considered to include a numerical range that includes + / -10% of the numerical value. In addition, terms such as "communication" and "communications with..." or "interface" or "interface with..." (for example, a first component "communicates" or "communicates" with a second component) are used herein to indicate a structural, functional, mechanical, electrical, signal, optical, magnetic, electromagnetic, ionic or fluid relationship between two or more components or elements. Therefore, the fact that one component is said to communicate or interface with a second component does not exclude that additional components may exist between the first component and the second component and / or be operably associated or engaged with the first component and the second component.

[0028] For purposes of reference and description, the fan 100, 800 of the present invention is considered to have a horizontal x-axis (x), a vertical y-axis (y), and a width z-axis (z), such as Figure 1 and Figure 8 As shown, the components of fans 100, 800 are positioned relative to each other along these axes. Unless otherwise specified or the context requires otherwise, the terms "axial" and "axially" are assumed to refer to the respective axis or any direction or axis parallel to the device axis. For convenience, movement relative to the device axis may alternatively include movement relative to the device axis. Figure 1 and Figure 8 Unless the context indicates otherwise, linear translation "along device axis z" is not limited to translation directly on the device axis (coincident with the device axis), but also includes translation parallel to the device axis z, depending on the context. Similarly, rotation "about device axis y" also includes rotation about an axis parallel to the device axis y, depending on the context.

[0029] In addition, especially if Figure 1 and Figure 8 As shown, the fan of the present invention is also considered to have a height (h), a length (l) and a width (w).

[0030] As shown and discussed below, examples of pivoting fans are provided. Figure 1-7 An example showing a fan pivoting, Figure 8-11 Another example of a pivoting fan is shown. In both examples, the pivoting fans are portable, freestanding fans. Portable is defined as having the ability to be easily carried or moved. Freestanding is defined as having the ability to remain stable and upright without external constraints. It should be further understood that the term "fan" may be used interchangeably with the term "blower," "air circulator," or any other term referring to a device that produces airflow for cooling and / or heating. It should also be noted that Figure 1-7 The pivoting fan and Figure 8-11 The features and functions of each of the pivoting fans shown may be interchanged or combined with one another.

[0031] In particular, if Figure 1-7 One example of a pivoting fan is shown with a vertical grille that serves both as a protective grille and for directing airflow vertically from the fan. In other words, as will be described in more detail below, Figure 1-7 The pivoting fan in has a vertical grille that discharges air vertically so that when in operation, the user can feel the air blown out from the fan along a large length of the user's vertical plane (ie, the longitudinal plane and / or the frontal plane).

[0032] Figure 1 A front perspective view of an example of a fan 100 with an air outlet 106 is shown. Figure 1 As shown, the fan 100 includes a base 104, a fan housing 102, and a blower assembly 108 positioned within an interior space 110 of the fan housing 102. The base 104 is defined by a portion of the fan 100 that supports the fan housing 102 above a support surface. In this example, the base 104 may include a right base support 116 and a left base support 118, which are spaced apart by a predetermined distance to form a space 120. The fan housing 102 may be rotatably coupled between the side supports 116, 118 within the space 120.

[0033] The fan housing 102 is mounted on the base 104 and can be rotated or fixed relative to the base 104. The fan housing 120 further defines an interior space 110, and the blower assembly 108 is located in the interior space. The blower assembly 108 is used to draw air into the interior space 110 of the fan housing 102 through the air inlet 124, 227, and exhaust the air flow through the air outlet 106. The air inlet 124, 227 can include a plurality of air inlet holes 122 and 226 (such as Figure 2 As shown in Figure 1 As further shown, the air inlets 124, 227 and the air inlet holes 124, 227 can be recessed inwardly from the outer surface of the left and right base supports 116, 118. In other words, the right and left base supports 116, 118 can include openings 126, 127 that expose the air inlets 124, 227 and the air inlet holes 122, 226. Such openings 126, 127 can include sidewalls 128 that slope inwardly from the outer surface of the base supports 116, 118 toward the fan housing 102. One of the purposes of the air inlets 124, 227 and the air inlet holes 122, 226 being recessed inwardly from the outer surface of the base supports 116, 118 is to help reduce and / or prevent foreign matter from entering the fan housing 102.

[0034] As described above, vertical grille 114 is further located near air outlet 106. As shown, vertical grille 114 includes a plurality of vertical grilles or blade elements 112a, 112b, 112c. It should be understood that vertical grille or blade elements 112a, 112b, 112c are examples of the plurality of vertical grilles or blade elements of fan 100, and the number thereof can vary without departing from the scope of the present invention. Vertical grille or blade elements 112a, 112b, 112c extend or extend along the height of fan housing 102. As further shown, vertical grille or blade elements 112a, 112b and 112c extend outwardly from the interior space 110 of fan housing 102 and / or from blower assembly 108. Vertical grille 114 not only helps to protect or guard blower assembly, but also can vertically guide the airflow generated by blower assembly 108 and discharged through air outlet 106. In other words, as will be discussed in more detail below, the vertical grille 114, together with the vertical blades or grille elements 112a, 112b, and 112c, allows the airflow generated by the blower assembly 108 to be blown out of the fan housing 102 in a vertical manner or orientation, thereby allowing the user to feel the airflow along the vertical axis or plane of the user's body. The vertical grille 114 also helps to prevent objects (not shown) from entering the interior space 110 of the fan housing 102.

[0035] Figure 2 yes Figure 1 FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a fan 100. Figure 2 As shown, the base 104 includes side supports 116 and 118. The side supports 116 and 118 are spaced apart by a predetermined distance so that the fan housing 102 can be rotatably coupled between the side supports 116 and 118. Figure 2 As further shown, the fan housing 102 may rotate about the slip rings 232 , 233 . Figure 2 Also shown are trim rings 228 , 230 located about the air inlets 122 , 226 , respectively.

[0036] As further shown, the blower assembly 202 can include a blower 204 (having a plurality of blades or impellers 236, 238), a motor 206 having a motor output shaft, and a motor mount 208. As shown, the blower 204 is constructed as a single unit and is a centrifugal blower. The blower 204 is coupled to the motor output shaft of the motor 206. The motor mount 208 is used to mount the motor 206 to the fan housing 102.

[0037] Blower 204 can further include multiple blades or impellers 236, 238. In operation, motor 206 rotates blower 204 and blades 236, 238. The rotation of the rotation axis of blower 204 and impellers 236, 238 around the motor output shaft allows impellers 236, 238 to generate airflow, which flows into the interior space 110 of fan housing 102 and passes through air outlet 106 and vertical grille 114. The motor 206 of the blower assembly can be an electric motor using alternating current or direct current. In addition, in one example, the motor of the present invention can provide a directional airflow of at least 2000-3000FPM (feet per minute), or more preferably 2200-2500FPM. This strong airflow is intended to simulate the resistance felt when performing physical exercise (such as running or riding a bicycle), while keeping the user cool even during high-intensity exercise.

[0038] like Figure 2 As further shown, the fan housing 102 may include a right fan housing 208, a left fan housing 210, a right housing cap 214, and a left housing cap 212. A control button 216 may also be provided on the fan 100. Such control button 216 may include a power switch and at least three wind speed settings. Such control button 216 may further be connected to or communicate with a printed circuit board (PCB) housed in the PCB housing 222. The printed circuit board may further communicate with a remote control device for remotely controlling fan settings. The printed circuit board may include an integrated circuit, a processor, and / or a controller that communicates with a power supply (not shown). The printed circuit board may also communicate with the motor 206 to control the operation of the motor 206.

[0039] Control wires (not shown) may also connect the control button 216 and / or PCB to the motor 206. In addition, a wire cover 218 and a cable clamp 224 may also be provided to conceal and support any wires in the fan 100. Using the cable clamp 224 helps prevent long-term wear on the wires.

[0040] Figure 3 yes Figure 1 A front view of the fan 100 is shown. Figure 3 As shown, the front view of the fan 100 shows that the fan 100 (i.e., the base 104) has a trapezoidal shape, allowing the fan 100 to be more stable. In other words, the base supports 116 and 118 are slanted inward from the bottom of the base toward the fan housing 102. By slanting the base supports 116 and 118 inward from the bottom of the base toward the fan housing 102, the risk of the fan 100 tipping over is greatly reduced.

[0041] like Figure 3As further shown, the air outlet 106 is shown to have a horizontal aspect ratio (i.e., the width of the air outlet is greater than the height). Although the air outlet 106 has a horizontal aspect ratio, the vertical grille 114 allows the airflow discharged from the air outlet 106 or discharged through the air outlet 106 to be vertically oriented, so that the airflow or flow is concentrated between the airflow boundaries 302, 304. Therefore, the vertical grille 114 allows the airflow generated from the blower assembly 108 to be blown out vertically from the fan housing 102 along the height of the fan housing 102, thereby maintaining the vertical plane or axis orientation or focus along the user's body. Compared with other fans using horizontal grilles and / or horizontal blades or grille elements, by orienting the airflow along the vertical plane or axis of the user's body, the user will be able to feel the air along a greater length of his body. A further advantage of this vertical airflow structure is that it better simulates or imitates the wind resistance felt by the user when performing physical activities (such as running or cycling). Thus, despite the horizontal aspect ratio of the air outlet 106, the vertical grille 114 structure allows the airflow of the present invention to be oriented so that the airflow extends along a greater length of the user's vertical plane or axis (rather than the user's transverse or horizontal plane).

[0042] Figure 4 and Figure 5 Show Figure 1 1 and 10. As shown, the fan housing 102 is shaped like a teardrop, wherein a circular section 406 transitions to two flat-shaped sections 408, 410 that meet at point 412. The air outlet 106 is positioned near one of the flat sections 410 so that air is discharged from the flat section 410 of the fan housing 102. It should also be understood that although the fan housing is shaped like a teardrop, the fan housing 102 can be configured in other shapes, including but not limited to square, circular, and triangular. As shown, the benefit of the fan housing 102 being shaped like a teardrop is that it allows the fan housing to rotate more easily due to its circular section 406, while still being able to provide a strong, directional vertical airflow due to its flat sections 408, 410 and the airflow discharged from one of the flat sections 410.

[0043] In addition, the fan housing 102 can rotate around the axis of rotation 402. The use of rotational motion (as shown by arrow 404) allows the air outlet 106 of the fan housing 102 to be directionally adjusted along the rotational motion 404. The range of the rotational motion 404 of the fan housing 102 can be between 0 degrees and 360 degrees, thereby allowing the air outlet 106 to eject airflow at any angle between 0 degrees and 360 degrees. In other examples, the range of the rotational motion 404 of the fan housing 102 can be at least between 0 degrees and 180 degrees. The base 104 of the fan 100 is further designed to allow unrestricted rotational motion 404 of the fan housing 102. In this example, no part of the base 104 can interfere with the 360-degree rotational motion 404 of the fan housing 102. In other examples, the base 104 of the fan 100 can be designed to limit the rotational motion 404 of the fan housing 102 so that the blocking point 412 rotates through the base 104.

[0044] Figure 6 yes Figure 1 A rear perspective view of the fan. Figure 6 Specifically shown are vertical grilles 114 and vertical blade / grate elements 112a, 112b, 112c that can extend continuously and evenly around the entire circumference of the fan housing 102. In other words, the vertical blade / grate elements 112a, 112b, 112c can extend continuously and evenly around the circular segment 406, the two flat shape segments 408, 410, and the point 412, and can extend outward from the interior space 110 of the fan housing 102 or from the blower assembly 108.

[0045] Figure 7 exhibit Figure 1 Top view of the fan. Figure 7 Another view of vertical vane / grate elements 112a, 112b, 112c extending continuously and uniformly around the fan housing 102 and extending outwardly from the interior space 110 of the fan housing 102 or from the blower assembly 108 is shown. Figure 7 Another view of the base supports 116 and 118 is shown slanted or angled inwardly from the bottom of the base toward the fan housing 102 .

[0046] As described above, the fan 100 can be operated at a single speed or at multiple speeds. The fan 100 can also include a timer, a light, an LED display, a manual controller, a bedtime dimming function, and / or a cable storage. Standard electrical components (although not shown) are also provided to power the fan motor and control its operation.

[0047] Figure 88 is a front perspective view of another example of a fan 800. Similar to the fan 100, the fan 800 includes a base 804 and a fan housing 802. The base 804 is defined by the portion of the fan 800 that supports the fan housing 802 above the support surface. The base 804 can include (as in this example) right and left side supports 1102, 1104 spaced a predetermined distance apart, and the fan housing 802 can be rotatably coupled between the side supports 1102, 1104 so that the fan housing 802 rotates or pivots relative to the base 804.

[0048] The fan housing 120 further defines an interior space in which the blower assembly and the blower 1110 are located. The blower 1110 is used to draw air into the interior space of the fan housing 802 through the air inlets 808, 1118 and exhaust the air flow through the grille 806. Similar to the fan 100, the air inlets 808, 1118 and the air inlet holes can be recessed inwardly from the outer surfaces of the right and left base supports 1102 and 1104.

[0049] like Figure 8 As further shown, power cables 812 and other wiring (not shown) may be extended through or contained within the interior space of fan 800 so that power cables 812 and other wiring remain stationary during rotation of fan housing 802. For example, power cables 812 may be extended through the interior space of base 804 to connect to motor 1112. As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, the advantages of such a cable / wiring configuration are to prevent exposure of wiring or power cables between the motor and its controller to the environment, as well as to eliminate bending of the cables or wires during rotation of fan housing 802. As described above, such a cable / wiring configuration may also be incorporated into fan 100.

[0050] Fig. 9 yes Figure 8 A rear perspective view of the fan 800. Fig. 9 A handle 810 of the fan housing 802 is shown that extends partially around the circumference of the fan housing 802. In particular, the handle 810 extends around the entire outer surface of the rear cover 1002 of the fan housing 802. By extending around the circumference of the fan housing 802, the handle 810 allows the user to adjustably rotate or pivot the fan housing 802 in a more convenient manner because it provides multiple gripping positions for the user to grip and rotate the fan housing 802. In one example, the handle 810 can extend around at least one quarter of the circumference of the fan housing 802. In other examples, the handle 810 can extend around at least half of the circumference of the fan housing 802.

[0051] like Fig. 9As shown, a cable clip 814 can be incorporated into the base 804 to allow for convenient winding of the power cable 812 to allow for securement of the power cable 812 and to allow for quick and easy winding and unwinding.

[0052] Fig.10 yes Figure 8 A top view of fan 800 is shown. Fig.10 The shape of the rear cover 1002 of the fan housing 802 is shown. As shown, the outer surface of the rear cover 1002 is concave. This concave outer surface of the rear cover 1002 allows the user to have more room to hold or grasp the handle 810 along any portion of the handle 810 extending around the circumference of the fan housing 802. As further shown, similar to the fan 100, the base supports 1102 and 1104 are tilted inwardly from the bottom of the base toward the fan housing 802. By tilting the base supports 1102 and 1104 inwardly from the bottom of the base toward the fan housing 802, the risk of the fan 800 tipping over is greatly reduced.

[0053] Fig.11 yes Figure 8 A cross-sectional view of a fan. Fig.11 As shown, the base 804 includes side supports 1102, 1104. The side supports 1102, 1104 are spaced apart by a predetermined distance so that the fan housing 802 can be rotatably coupled between the side supports 1102, 1104. Fig.11 As further shown, fan housing 802 may rotate about slip rings 1106 , 1108 . Fig.11 Also shown are trim rings 1120, 1122 located around the air inlet covers 808, 1118, respectively.

[0054] As further shown, the fan housing 802 can include a blower 1110, a motor (not shown) having a motor output shaft, and a motor mount 1112. As shown, the blower 1110 is constructed as a single unit and is a centrifugal blower. The blower 1110 is coupled to the output shaft of the motor. The motor mount 1112 is used to mount the motor to the fan housing 802.

[0055] Blower 804 can be configured the same as blower 204. In addition, the motor of fan 800 can provide a directional airflow of 2500 FPM (feet per minute) similar to the motor of fan 100. Such a strong airflow is intended to simulate the resistance felt when performing physical exercise (such as running or cycling), while keeping the user cool even during high-intensity exercise.

[0056] like Fig.11As further shown, the fan housing 802 may include a right fan housing cap 1114 and a left fan housing cap 1116. A controller 1115 may also be provided on the fan 800. This controller 1115 may be in the form of a lever, and may include a power switch and at least three wind speed settings. The controller 1115 is constructed in the form of a lever to provide the convenience of controlling the fan 800 without removing the gloves on the user's hands, or to allow the user to use other body parts (such as the user's feet) to control and switch the fan settings. This controller 1115 may be further connected or communicated with a printed circuit board (PCB) housed in the fan 800. The printed circuit board may further communicate with a remote controller. The printed circuit board may include an integrated circuit, a processor and / or a controller communicating with a power supply (not shown). The printed circuit board may also communicate with a motor to control the operation of the motor. A control line (not shown) may also connect the controller 1115 and / or the printed circuit board to the motor.

[0057] It will be understood that terms such as "in communication" and "in communication with..." (e.g., a first component is "in communication with" or "connected to" a second component) are used herein to indicate a structural, functional, mechanical, electrical, signal, optical, magnetic, electromagnetic, ionic, or fluid relationship between two or more components or elements. Thus, the fact that one component is said to be in communication with or interface with a second component does not exclude that additional components may be present between and / or operably associated with or engaged with the first and second components.

[0058] It will be appreciated that various aspects or details of the invention may be modified without departing from the scope of the invention. Furthermore, the above description is intended for purposes of illustration only and not limitation - the invention being defined by the claims.
