Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present application relates generally to telecommunication equipment and, more particularly, to a platform assembly for a single pole antenna structure and an associated antenna assembly. Background Art
[0002] Various types of towers have been built to support one or more antennas, such as those used to broadcast television and radio frequency signals. Some towers are specifically designed to transmit and receive cellular phone signals and other types of radio frequency (RF) signals. As the demand for wireless data services grows, the traditional response is to increase the number and capacity of traditional cellular base stations (macro cells). Such macro cells are typically mounted on antenna towers. Traditional antenna towers have three or four brackets on which antennas are mounted and support remote radio units (RRUs). However, in some environments, structures known as "single poles" are used as mounting structures. A typical single pole 10 with an antenna 20 mounted on a mounting frame 30 is shown in FIG. 1. Single poles are typically used when fewer antennas / RRUs are to be installed, and / or when a structure of less height is required.
[0003] Radio frequency towers (including single poles) are typically designed to allow personnel to climb to the top and stay there to install and / or repair radio frequency antennas (e.g., cellular antennas) and other equipment connected to the tower. Platform 40 is typically installed near the top of a radio frequency tower (e.g., a cellular tower) to support workers who may be responsible for installing and / or maintaining radio frequency antennas (e.g., cellular antennas). Such a platform is designed to support the weight of a person and can also be used to support multiple radio frequency antennas. The single pole platform is a universal platform design that can simultaneously install multiple different communication devices. The platform can be fixed to the single pole 10 at different heights. Since the single pole can have different diameters, and the diameter of the single pole can be different at different heights, the annular mounting member 70 used to fix the platform to the single pole will change with the diameter of the pole and assume the main load-bearing function. An optional single pole platform assembly may be required, which allows easy manufacturing and more efficient installation while reducing manufacturing costs. Summary of the invention

[0031] According to an embodiment of the present invention, a platform assembly for a single pole is provided. The platform assembly of the present invention includes a T-arm assembly that allows the platform assembly to maintain the same profile and the same relative position at any position on the single pole (i.e., the outer profile of the platform assembly remains the same at different diameters). This also allows different antenna configurations on the platform assembly to have reduced passive intermodulation (PIM) interference. The platform assembly of the present invention includes a split pallet (platform) configuration that allows an RRU or other telecommunications equipment mounting kit to be secured to an adjustable arm member of the T-arm assembly, thereby allowing one or more RRUs or other telecommunications equipment to be mounted internally relative to an antenna mounted on a vertical antenna tube of the platform assembly. The platform assembly of the present invention may further include a built-in "kicker" reinforcement kit that can enhance the load capacity of the platform assembly. The platform assembly of the present invention is highly adaptable to different load configurations (e.g., light, medium, heavy, and extremely heavy), thereby allowing flexibility while also controlling costs. Reference will now be made to Figure 2A-Figure 8 Embodiments of the present invention are discussed in more detail.
[0032] refer to Figure 2A-2B and Figure 3 , shows a platform assembly 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The platform assembly 100 is configured to be fixed to the single pole 10, 10' by an existing mounting member (e.g., the ring mounting member 70). The platform assembly 100 includes a plurality of T-arm assemblies 200, which provide the platform assembly 100 with the flexibility of being fixed to single poles 10, 10' of different diameters (or diameters at different heights of the corresponding single poles 10, 10'). For example, in some embodiments, the platform assembly 100 includes three T-arm assemblies 200. Figure 2A-2B As shown, according to an embodiment of the present invention, the platform assembly 100 is configured to maintain the same profile and the same relative position (e.g., the position of the T-arm assembly 200 relative to the horizontal mounting tube 12) regardless of the diameter of the single pole 10, 10'. This allows the platform assembly 100 to be used with different antenna configurations while maintaining the ability to prevent passive intermodulation (PIM).
[0033] In addition, according to an embodiment of the present invention, Figure 2A-2B and Figure 3 As shown, each T-arm assembly 200 includes a "split pallet" configuration, wherein the grid (platform) 205 of each T-arm assembly 200 is separated by openings or gaps 210 (e.g., referring to Figure 4A-4B As discussed in further detail below, the openings 210 between the grilles 205 allow one or more mounting tubes 260 to be mounted to the adjustable arm members 208 of the corresponding T-arm assembly 200 (see also Figure 3 and Figure 4A-4BThis allows the RRU or other telecommunications equipment 60 secured to the mounting tube 260 to be positioned at the minimum required distance (e.g., 12 inches) from the horizontal mounting tube 12 (and antenna 50) (see, e.g., Figure 8 ), as required by telecommunications operator standard specifications.
[0034] The platform assembly 100 may include one or more reinforcement kits 300, 350 coupled to each T-arm assembly. The one or more reinforcement kits 300, 350 are configured to help support the T-arm assembly 200 and allow the platform assembly 100 to be adaptable to accommodate different load capacities (i.e., light loads, medium loads, heavy loads, and very heavy loads) (see, e.g., Figures 6A-6D ).
[0035] Now refer to Figures 4A-4E and Figure 5A-5B , shows a T-shaped arm assembly 200 and a reinforcement kit 300 according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figures 4A-4C As shown, each T-arm assembly 200 may include a platform frame 201 and an adjustable arm member (or spindle) 208. In some cases, the adjustable arm member 208 is tubular with a rectangular cross-section; in some examples, the aspect ratio of the rectangular arm member is greater than 1 (i.e., the height of the adjustable arm member 208 is greater than its width). A mounting plate 206 can be coupled to one end of the adjustable arm member 208. In some embodiments, the mounting plate 206 is configured to secure the adjustable arm member 208 to the annular mount 70. As discussed in further detail below, in some embodiments, the adjustable arm member 208 is configured to move (e.g., slide) relative to the platform frame 201, thereby allowing the T-arm assembly 200 to be adjustable, for example, to accommodate different diameters along the single rod 10, 10′ that the T-arm assembly 200 may encounter (e.g., see Figure 2A-2B ).
[0036] like Figure 4A-4C As shown, the platform frame 201 may include a pair of support members 202, 204 and a pair of bracket members 209 coupled to the support members 202, 204 and extending parallel to each other between the support members 202, 204, the pair of bracket members 209 being spaced apart to help define an opening or gap 210 between the grids 205. The support members 209 also provide additional structural support to strengthen the platform frame 201.
[0037] In some embodiments, one or more mounting tubes 260 are mounted on the adjustable arm member 208 via the mounting bracket 250. The one or more mounting tubes 260 extend through the opening 210 between the bracket member 209 and the grille 205. Figure 4BAs shown, in some embodiments, the mounting bracket 250 for the mounting tube 260 may include a pair of plate members 252, a plurality of clamping members 254, and a plurality of fasteners 255 (e.g., threaded rods or bolts and nuts). In some embodiments, the adjustable arm member 208 is clamped between the pair of plate members 252. The corresponding mounting tube 260 may be arranged between one or more clamping members 254 and one of the plate members 252. The plurality of fasteners 255 are inserted into the aligned holes in both the plate member 252 and the corresponding clamping member 254, and tightened to secure the mounting bracket 250 (and the mounting tube 260) to the adjustable arm member 208.
[0038] The mounting tube 260 is configured so that one or more RRUs (or other telecommunication devices) 60 can be mounted thereon. The mounting tube 260 facilitates positioning the one or more RRUs (or other devices) 60 inside (i.e., closer to the pole 10, 10') one or more antennas 50 mounted to the vertical antenna tube 14 of the platform assembly 100. For example, in some embodiments, the mounting tube 260 is positioned inside the platform assembly 100 relative to the horizontal mounting tube 12 so that the one or more antennas 50 and other telecommunication devices 60 are spaced apart from each other by a minimum required distance (e.g., 12 inches) (see, e.g., FIG. 1 ). Figure 8 The platform assembly 100 provides the ability to mount the antenna 50 to the vertical antenna tube 14 and the RRU or other device 60 to the mounting tube 260 extending through the opening 210 in the T-arm assembly 200 (i.e., internal mounting capability) without interfering with each other, which helps protect all mounting locations on the platform assembly 100 from PIM.
[0039] See also Figure 4C In some embodiments, mounting brackets 213 are coupled to opposite ends of each support member 202, 204. In some embodiments, mounting brackets 213 are configured to secure platform frame 201 to horizontal mounting tubes 12 of platform assembly 100 (e.g., see Figure 2A-2B ). For example, in some embodiments, the horizontal mounting tube 12 can be supported by and / or engaged with the support members 202, 204 and the mounting bracket 213, so that the horizontal mounting tube 12 is located on top of the support members 202, 204 and the mounting bracket 213 and is fixed to the top surface of the support members 202, 204 and the mounting bracket 213. For example, refer to U.S. Patent Application No. 2023 / 0024333 to Ojha et al., the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0040] like Figures 4A-4CAs shown, in some embodiments, the platform frame 201 of the T-arm assembly 200 further includes at least two grille edge members 203. The grille edge members 203 are coupled to the support members 202, 204. In addition, each platform frame 201 includes a pair of grilles (or platforms) 205 coupled to the grille edge members 202 and the support members 209 (see, for example, Figure 4A-4B ).like Figure 4A-4B As shown, an opening 210 defined by bracket members 209 is located between a pair of grilles 205, so that one or more mounting tubes 260 can pass through the opening 210 and extend between the grilles 205. The grilles 205 can be supported by the grill edge members 203, the support members 202, 204, and the bracket members 209, thereby providing a work platform on which a technician can stand. In some embodiments, the components of the T-arm assembly 200 that define the platform frame 201 are formed of weldments, except for the adjustable arm member 208 that allows movement relative to the platform frame 201. In some embodiments, the T-arm assembly 200 can include galvanized steel.
[0041] Still refer to Figure 4A-4C , the T-arm assembly 200 also includes a pair of locking mechanisms 220. In some embodiments, each locking mechanism 220 is coupled to a corresponding support member 202, 204. In some embodiments, each locking mechanism 220 may include an upper bracket member 222 and a lower bracket member 224. Each upper bracket member 222 may be fixed to a corresponding support member 202, 204. The upper bracket member 222 of the locking mechanism 220 may have an L-shaped profile, which helps to provide further structural support for the T-arm assembly 200. Each upper bracket member 222 is coupled to a corresponding lower bracket member 224 by a pair of fixing members 225 (e.g., bolts, screws, etc.). The pairs of fixing members 225 are spaced apart so that the adjustable arm member 208 can be inserted therebetween or slid therebetween (see, for example, Figure 4A-4B ). In some embodiments, the upper bracket member 222 and the lower bracket member 224 of the locking mechanism 220 are configured so that the adjustable arm members 208 having different heights can be clamped therebetween.
[0042] like Figure 4A-4B As shown, the adjustable arm member 208 is positioned to extend between the upper bracket member 222 and the lower bracket member 224 of the corresponding locking mechanism 220 and is slidable (i.e., adjustable) therebetween to accommodate different diameters along the height of the single pole 10, 10' (see, for example, Figure 2A-2B). Once the adjustable arm member 208 is moved (e.g., slid) to the desired position (i.e., the adjustable arm member 208 and the mounting plate 206 are positioned against the annular mounting member 70 fixed to the single pole 10, 10'), the fixing member 225 of the locking mechanism 220 is tightened to clamp the adjustable arm member 208 between the corresponding upper bracket member 222 and the lower bracket member 224 of the corresponding locking mechanism 220, thereby fixing the adjustable arm member 208 in the desired position relative to the platform frame 201 and against the single pole 10, 10'. Alternative locking mechanisms and / or brackets that can be used with the T-arm assembly 200 and platform assembly 100 of the present invention are described in commonly owned U.S. Patent Application No. 18 / 321,465 to Ai et al., the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0043] See also Figure 4A , Figure 4C-4D and Figure 5A-5B In some embodiments, the T-arm assembly 200 further includes one or more reinforcement kits 300, 350 (see also, for example Figures 6A-6D ). Figure 4A , Figure 4C and Figure 5A The reinforcement kit 300 shown is configured to be fixed to the adjustable arm member 208 to provide additional structural support to the T-arm assembly 200 (e.g., to enhance the load capacity of the platform assembly 100). In some embodiments, the reinforcement kit 300 is also configured to be fixed to the annular mounting member 70, similar to the T-arm assembly 200 (i.e., the adjustable arm member 208). The reinforcement kit 300 of the present invention is different from the conventional reinforcement kit 350, which requires a second annular mounting member 70 to fix the reinforcement kit 350 to the single pole 10, 10' (see, for example, Fig.6D ). The "built-in" reinforcement kit 300 of the present invention allows the platform assembly 100 to have the ability to handle heavier load capacity without having to use thick or high-grade materials, thereby making the platform assembly 100 of the present invention lighter than traditional "heavy" platform assemblies. However, as discussed further below, in some embodiments of the present invention, the traditional reinforcement kit 350 can still be used with the T-arm assembly 200 (see, for example, Figure 6C-6D ).
[0044] like Figure 4C and Figure 5A As shown, in some embodiments, the reinforcement kit 300 includes a main support member 302 (e.g., a tube), a mounting bracket 310, and a locking mechanism 320. In some embodiments, the main support member 302 can be pivotally coupled to the mounting bracket 310 and / or the locking mechanism 320. Figure 4D and Figure 5AAs shown, the mounting bracket 310 of the reinforcement kit 300 is configured to receive the end of the main support member 302, which is secured to the mounting bracket 310 by fasteners 315 (e.g., bolts and nuts). The locking mechanism 320 of the reinforcement kit 300 is secured to the opposite end of the main support member 302 and is configured to engage the adjustable arm member 208 in a manner similar to the locking mechanism 220 of the T-arm assembly 200 described herein. For example, as Figure 5A As shown, in some embodiments, the locking mechanism 320 of the reinforcement kit 300 includes a pair of clamp brackets 324, which are coupled together by a pair of fixing members 325 (e.g., bolts and nuts, etc.). The fixing members 325 extend through the alignment holes 324a in the clamp brackets 324. In some embodiments, a pair of main support brackets 322 are coupled to one of the clamp brackets 324 (i.e., the lower clamp bracket) of the locking mechanism 320. For example, in some embodiments, the fixing members 325 also extend through the alignment holes 322a in the main support brackets 322 and the (lower) clamp brackets 324 to fix the brackets 322, 324 together. The main support brackets 322 are spaced apart from each other and are positioned so that the ends of the main support member 302 can be fixed between the main support brackets by fasteners 315 (e.g., bolts and nuts).
[0045] Once the locking mechanism 320 of the reinforcement kit 300 is positioned at a desired position along the adjustable arm member 208 (i.e., the adjustable arm member 208 is located between the clamping brackets 324), the fixing member 325 is tightened to clamp the adjustable arm member 208 between the clamping brackets 324 of the locking mechanism 320, thereby fixing the reinforcement kit 300 at a desired position along the adjustable arm member 208.
[0046] In some embodiments, the mounting bracket 310 of the reinforcement kit 300 is coupled to the mounting plate 306, 206', and the mounting plate 306, 206' is configured to be fixed to the annular mount 70. Figure 4A , Figure 4C and Figure 4D As shown, in some embodiments, the mounting plate 306 can be a separate plate from the mounting plate 206 coupled to the end of the adjustable arm member 208. Figure 4D As shown, the separate mounting plates 206, 306 are configured to be secured to the mounting plate 74 of the annular mount 70 (e.g., via fasteners 215 received through aligned holes 206a, 306a in the mounting plates 206, 306 and the mounting plate 74 of the annular mount 70, respectively) (e.g., see Figures 6A-6D5A-5B, the mounting plates 206, 306 may be replaced with a single mounting plate 206' to which both the adjustable arm member 208 and the mounting bracket 310 of the reinforcement kit 300 are secured (e.g., by welding). The single mounting plate 206' may be secured to the mounting plate 74 of the annular mount 70 in a similar manner (i.e., via fasteners 215 received through alignment holes 206a' in the mounting plate 206' and the mounting plate 74 of the annular mount 70) to secure the T-arm assembly 200 and the reinforcement kit 300 to the annular mount 70.
[0047] Reference now Figures 6A-6D , shows different platform configurations according to embodiments of the present invention, namely, a combination of a T-arm assembly 200 and reinforcement kits 300, 350. Different platform configurations can be implemented on a single pole 10, 10' based on the required load capacity of each platform assembly 100, 100', 100", 100''.
[0048] Fig. 6A The illustrated platform assembly 100 ′ shows the T-arm assembly 200 without the reinforcement kits 300 , 350 . Fig. 6A The illustrated configuration of the platform assembly 100' may be used for "light duty" load carrying capabilities, as is understood in the art. Figure 6B The platform assembly 100 is shown as a T-arm assembly 200 having a reinforcement kit 300 as described herein. Figure 6B The illustrated configuration of the platform assembly 100 may be used for a "medium duty" load capacity, as is understood in the art. Figure 6C The illustrated platform assembly 100" shows a T-arm assembly 200 having a conventional reinforcement kit 350 as described herein. Figure 6C As shown, the reinforcement kit 350 requires a conventional ring mount secured to the mono-pole 10, 10'.
