Abstract
Description
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 367,647, filed on July 5, 2022, entitled “TOKENSERVICES FOR NON-FUNGIBLE TOKENS,” the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Technical Field
[0003] At least some aspects of the present disclosure relate to electronic token services for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Background Art
[0004] An NFT is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger called a blockchain that can be sold and traded. NFTs can be associated with specific digital or physical assets (including, but not limited to, art, songs, and sports highlights, as well as licenses to use assets for specific purposes such as special events). There are at least three unresolved issues with NFTs. First, the process of redeeming NFT experiences is complicated. Second, it is difficult to identify fake NFTs. Third, it is challenging to establish ownership of NFTs.
[0005] NFTs have opened up new ways for brand storytelling and consumer interaction. However, the verification and access experiences associated with these NFTs have not kept pace. In the real world, the experience of redeeming NFTs is not smooth enough to attract digital natives. Verification of the authenticity or original authorship of NFTs can be a challenge due to fake NFTs, counterfeiting, unsolicited use of technology, time spent verifying NFTs on the blockchain, etc. In addition, the many steps required to prove ownership make it difficult to scale to a large audience, especially a savvy non-crypto audience or other use cases. For example, in order to view an NFT transaction using Etherscan.io, the following four steps must be followed, which takes at least a few minutes:
[0006] 1. Go to Etherscan.io and enter your wallet address in the search bar.
[0007] 2. Select the desired token you wish to view.
[0008] 3. Select the specific transaction hash (NFT) you would like to view.
[0009] 4. Verify the “Status” and “Tokens Transferred” of your NFT.
[0010] Currently, there is no effective way for people to authenticate their NFTs off-chain. Unless you know how to read the NFT smart contract details, there is no foolproof way to ensure the legitimacy of the NFT.
[0011] As the applications of NFTs begin to include collectibles, land records, collateral, etc., there is an urgent need for a method to verify the ownership and legitimacy of NFTs in a fast and secure manner. The present disclosure provides a solution that uses token service capabilities to bring together an ecosystem in which anyone can effectively establish the ownership and authenticity of tokens anywhere. Summary of the invention
[0012] In one aspect, the present disclosure describes a token processing server for processing non-fungible tokens, the token processing server comprising: a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing machine-executable instructions, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: issue a token ID based on metadata of a non-fungible token (NFT); and authenticate ownership of the NFT using a payment track in response to an access request for the NFT.
[0013] On the other hand, the present disclosure describes an off-chain token processing server for performing off-chain authentication on non-fungible tokens generated on a blockchain, the off-chain token processing server comprising: a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing machine-executable instructions, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: generate an off-chain token ID based on the identification characteristics of the NFT; store the off-chain token ID in a token library coupled to the processor, wherein the token library includes a mapping of the token ID to the NFT; and authenticate the NFT based on the off-chain token.
[0014] On the other hand, the present disclosure describes a method for processing non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the method comprising: receiving, by a token processing server, a request to generate an off-chain token ID for an NFT from an NFT market computer in response to purchasing the NFT; issuing, by the token processing server, the off-chain token ID based on metadata of the NFT; receiving, by the token processing server, an authentication request generated by an access point computer; authenticating, by the token processing server, ownership of the NFT based on information from a token repository associated with the token processing server; and providing, by the token processing server, an authentication decision to the access point computer based on the off-chain token ID.
[0015] For example, payment products include payment cards such as credit cards, debit cards, prepaid cards, digital wallets, etc., and electronic tokens associated with various entities involved in these transactions (e.g., users of the transaction token processing system) are managed (e.g., using transaction data obtained, for example, by a transaction processor during this processing). In one example, each token can be used to verify the ownership and legitimacy of the NFT. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0032] Before explaining various forms of token services for NFTs, it should be noted that the illustrative forms are not limited in application or use to the details of construction and arrangement of the parts shown in the drawings and description. The illustrative forms may be implemented or incorporated into other forms, variations and modifications, and may be practiced or performed in various ways. In addition, unless otherwise indicated, the terms and expressions used herein are selected for the purpose of describing the illustrative forms for the convenience of the reader and not for the purpose of limiting them.
[0033] Before discussing specific embodiments, aspects, or examples, some description of terms used herein is provided below.
[0034] A "digital wallet" may include an electronic device that allows a person to conduct e-commerce transactions. A digital wallet may be designed to simplify the purchase and payment process. A digital wallet may allow a user to load one or more payment cards onto the digital wallet in order to make payments without having to enter an account number or present a physical card.
[0035] A "digital wallet provider" may include an entity that issues a digital wallet to a user that enables the user to conduct financial transactions, such as an issuing bank or a third-party service provider. A digital wallet provider may provide a standalone user-facing software application that stores an account number or a representation of an account number (e.g., a payment token) on behalf of a cardholder (or other user) to facilitate payments at more than one unrelated merchant, perform face-to-face payments, or load financial value into a digital wallet. A digital wallet provider may enable a user to access their account via a personal computer, mobile device, or access device. In addition, a digital wallet provider may also provide one or more of the following functions: store multiple payment cards and other payment products on behalf of a user; store other information including billing addresses, shipping addresses, and transaction history; initiate transactions by one or more methods, such as providing a username and password, NFC, or a physical token; and may facilitate pass-through or two-step transactions.
[0036] As used herein, an “electronic wallet,” “digital wallet,” or “mobile wallet” may store user profile information, payment information (including tokens), bank account information, etc., and may be used for a variety of transactions, such as, but not limited to, e-commerce, social networking, money transfers / personal payments, mobile commerce, proximity payments, gaming, etc., for retail purchases, digital goods purchases, utility payments, purchases of games or gaming credits from gaming sites, transfers of funds between users, and the like.
[0037] As used herein, the terms "electronic wallet", "electronic wallet mobile application", and "digital wallet" may refer to one or more electronic devices and / or one or more software applications configured to initiate and / or conduct transactions (e.g., payment transactions, electronic payment transactions, etc.). For example, an electronic wallet may include a user device (e.g., mobile device, smart watch) that executes an application and server-side software and / or database for maintaining transaction data and providing the transaction data to the user device.
[0038] As used herein, the term "electronic wallet provider" may include an entity that provides and / or maintains an electronic wallet and / or electronic wallet mobile application for a user (e.g., a customer). Examples of electronic wallet providers include, but are not limited to, Google Wallet. TM、Android Apple and Samsung and / or other similar electronic payment systems. In some non-limiting examples, a financial institution (e.g., an issuer institution) may be an electronic wallet provider. As used herein, the term "electronic wallet provider system" may refer to one or more computer systems, computer devices, servers, server groups, etc. operated by or on behalf of an electronic wallet provider.
[0039] As used herein, the term "electronic wallet transaction processing system" may refer to one or more electronic devices and / or software applications configured to process transactions initiated and / or conducted by an electronic wallet application and / or request authentication of a user for such a transaction. For example, an electronic wallet transaction processing system may include server-side software and / or a database for maintaining transaction data and / or account data and providing the transaction data and / or account data to a merchant system and / or a payment gateway system to process an electronic wallet transaction and / or authenticate a user for such an electronic wallet transaction. An "electronic wallet transaction processing system provider" may include entities that provide and / or maintain electronic wallet transaction processing systems, such as Visa Checkout, Mastercard MasterPass, and others. TM , PayPal Checkout and / or other similar electronic wallet transaction processing system providers. In some non-limiting examples, the transaction service provider system can be an electronic wallet transaction processing system.
[0040] A "token service provider" may refer to an entity that includes one or more server computers that generate, process, and maintain tokens in a token service system. The token service provider may include or communicate with a token library that stores the generated token IDs. Specifically, the token library may maintain a one-to-one mapping between token IDs and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Various entities in the tokenization ecosystem may assume the role of a token service provider. The token service provider may provide reports or data outputs to reporting tools regarding approved, pending, or rejected token requests, including any assigned token requester IDs. The token service provider may provide data outputs related to token-based transactions to reporting tools and applications, and present tokens and / or PANs in reporting outputs as appropriate.
[0041] "Token services system" refers to a system that facilitates the request, generation, and / or issuance of tokens, and the maintenance of an established mapping of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to token IDs in a repository (e.g., a token library). In some embodiments or aspects, the token services system may establish a token assurance level for a given token to indicate the confidence level of the token's binding to a PAN. The token services system may support token processing for payment transactions submitted using the token by de-tokenizing the token to obtain the actual PAN. In various embodiments or aspects, the token services system may include a token requester and a token services provider that interacts with the token requester. In some embodiments or aspects, the token services system may include only a tokenization computer, or include a tokenization computer in combination with other computers such as a transaction processing network computer.
[0042] A "token requester identifier" may include any characters, numbers, or other identifiers associated with an entity associated with a network token system. For example, a token requester identifier may be associated with an entity registered with the network token system. In some embodiments, a unique token requester identifier may be assigned to each domain of a token request associated with the same token requester. For example, a token requester identifier may identify a pairing of a token requester (e.g., a mobile device, a mobile wallet provider, etc.) with a token domain (e.g., e-commerce, contactless, etc.). The token requester identifier may include any format or type of information. For example, in one embodiment, the token requester identifier may include a numerical value, such as a ten or eleven digit number (e.g., 4678012345).
[0043] In some embodiments, the token requester identifier can uniquely identify the pairing of the token requester and the token domain. Thus, in some embodiments, if the token requester can request tokens for multiple domains, the token requester can have multiple token requester identifiers, one for each domain.
[0044] For example, in some embodiments, the token requester identifier may include an 11-digit numerical value assigned by the network token system, and the token requester identifier may be unique within the token registry of each entity (and each domain). For example, the token requester identifier may include a code (e.g., the first 3 digits) for a token service provider such as the network token system, and the remaining digits (e.g., the last 8 digits) may be assigned by the token service provider for each requesting entity (e.g., mobile wallet provider) and each token domain (e.g., contactless, e-commerce, etc.).
[0045] In some embodiments, the token requester identifier can be used in a transaction during the authorization process. For example, the token requester identifier can be passed through a transaction request message to verify that the entity initiating the transaction is the same entity requesting and managing the token. In some embodiments, a token requester identifier can be assigned to an entity (e.g., a digital or mobile wallet provider, a merchant, a merchant of record, a payment enabler, etc.) during a login or registration process. In some embodiments, the acquirer / acquirer processor / payment enabler (i.e., a payment service provider) can populate the token requester identifier of each merchant, mobile wallet provider, consumer, etc. into the authorization message field before submitting the authorization request message to the payment processing network.
[0046] A "token repository" may refer to a repository that maintains established mappings. According to various embodiments or aspects, the token repository may also maintain other attributes of the token requester, which may be determined at registration time and which the token service provider may use to apply domain constraints or other controls during transaction processing. For example, the token repository may maintain a one-to-one mapping between a token and an account identification number represented by the token. The token repository may be part of a token service system. In some embodiments or aspects, the token repository may be provided as part of a token service provider. Alternatively, the token repository may be a remote repository accessible to the token service provider. The token repository may be protected by strong underlying physical and logical security due to the sensitive nature of the data mappings stored and managed therein.
[0047] In various aspects, the present disclosure provides a token service for NFTs that utilizes existing payment tracks, tokens, universal payment channels, and cryptographic APIs to enable everyone to participate in NFT commerce. In one aspect, a token ID is generated by a token service and returned to the NFT market. The NFT market provides a token ID to a token processing server so that the token ID can be stored in a token library off-chain. Off-chain storage allows NFT owners to quickly and easily provide proof of ownership of their NFTs. In addition, existing payment tracks or payment channels provide a convenient method for facilitating the transfer of funds from payers and payees in the exchange of purchasing NFTs and redeeming NFTs. In one aspect, tokens can be accessed or redeemed at a merchant's point of access (POA), and allow NFT owners and merchants to easily adopt NFTs in e-commerce using existing payment tracks and standard hardware (e.g., smartphones with NFTs, payment devices, etc.).
[0048] In various aspects, the present disclosure provides an efficient way for NFT owners to authenticate their NFTs off-chain and provide proof of authenticity and / or ownership. The present disclosure also provides a foolproof way to ensure the legitimacy of NFTs without having to know how to read NFT smart contract details. This solution leverages the off-chain token service provider capabilities to bring together an ecosystem where anyone, anywhere can effectively establish the ownership and authenticity of a token.
[0049] Therefore, the present disclosure provides an authentication service to improve NFT commerce. Potential users of the authentication service include merchants, digital wallet service providers, NFT markets, crypto wallet service providers, consumers, etc.
[0050] Figure 1 100 is a diagram showing a financial services company providing a token processing server 102 acting as a bridge between existing commerce 104 and NFT commerce 106 according to at least one aspect of the present disclosure. The financial services company and / or the token processing server 102 provide the bridge to enable NFT commerce. The financial services company and / or the token processing server 102 is a bridge between on-chain communication and off-chain communication. The token processing server 102 leverages existing payment rails, existing partners and members, token services, payment channels, and cryptographic APIs to enable NFT commerce, with little to no new hardware changes required by merchants in existing commerce, and no new behavior required by customers.
[0051] Figure 2 200 is a logical flow diagram of a method 200 for providing token services for NFTs according to at least one aspect of the present disclosure. According to the method 200, a token ID is issued 202 based on the NFT. Then, the ownership of the NFT is authenticated 204 using a payment track. Figure 3 and 4 Explain each of these functions.
[0052] Figure 3A system 300 for issuing a token ID based on an NFT according to at least one aspect of the present disclosure is provided. Initially, an NFT author 302 creates (1) an NFT anywhere and then places it on an NFT market computer 304. An NFT purchase is initiated (2) with the NFT market computer 304. The NFT market computer 304 requests and receives (3) a token ID from a token processing server 308. The token processing server 308 generates a token ID and stores it in a token library 310 associated with the token processing server 308. In various aspects, the token processing server 308 generates a token ID based on characteristics of the NFT, such as metadata and / or public / private keys associated with the NFT. The token processing server 308 provides (4) a token ID to the NFT market computer 304 based on identification characteristics of the NFT in response to a purchase or request. In at least one example, the token processing server 308 provides a token ID based on a public key and / or private key associated with the NFT. It should be understood that the token library 310 maintains a mapping between the NFT and the identification characteristics of the NFT used to generate the token ID. In at least one example, the token processing server 308 provides a token ID based on metadata associated with the NFT. The NFT owner 312 receives (5) the NFT image, private key, and token ID from the NFT market computer 304 to complete the purchase transaction. The private key corresponds to the public address of the NFT location on the blockchain and allows for on-chain authentication of NFT ownership. The NFT owner 312 pushes the token ID into the digital wallet 314. Push provisioning is a general capability that enables the NFT owner 312 to "push" the token ID from the crypto wallet 306 to a destination wallet 314 or merchant. The NFT owner 312 can move (7) the private key to any custodial wallet. Finally, the NFT owner 312 can access the token ID through the same digital wallet application 314 on their user device. The NFT owner can access the token ID as a way to display proof of ownership or authenticity at the POA. Additionally, a digital wallet mobile application (e.g., the X Pay app) and a reloadable debit card allow NFT owners 312 to shop, pay bills, and send money locally and abroad through existing payment rails (e.g., credit and debit cards).
[0053] In one aspect, the token processing server 308 may be Figure 2 and Figure 3 and implemented as a token processing server 308 in the network token system shown in column 16, line 43 to column 32, line 2 of U.S. Patent No. 11,093,936, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0054] Figure 4A system 400 for authenticating ownership of an NFT using a payment track according to at least one aspect of the present disclosure. In one aspect, an NFT owner 312 accesses (1) his digital wallet application (e.g., XPay) at a point of access 402 (POA). In one example, the POA 402 can be a physical merchant computer or point-of-sale terminal that allows a user to communicate via short-range wireless communication (e.g., NFC, RFID, Bluetooth, etc.). In addition, the NFT owner 312 can tap a receiver of the POA 402 with his user device to initiate communication with the POA 402. In another aspect, the NFT owner 312 can access his digital wallet through the merchant application using an API. When the user device is tapped or waved at the receiver of the POA 402, the merchant computer's POA computer 402 can capture data from the user device of the NFT owner 312. In one aspect, in an off-chain process, the NFT owner 312 may have registered as a token requestor with a token library and may have provided a token in a wallet application of a user device 314 (e.g., an NFC-enabled mobile phone). The NFT owner 312 can use the wallet application of the user device 314 to request access to the NFT. The merchant computer 402 can capture the token, token expiration date, token password (or other chip-based dynamic password), and POS input mode (as token presentation mode) from the user device 314. In one embodiment, the token requester identifier can be encrypted as part of the token and / or chip password data. The token requester identifier can correspond to the token ID at the token library 310.
[0055] The merchant computer 402 receives a request from the NFT owner 312 to access their NFT, and the merchant computer 402 sends an off-chain authentication request (2) to the token processing server 308 using an existing payment track. The token processing server 308 verifies the token against the token repository 310 to determine the authenticity of the token and identify further routing. The token processing server 308 can verify (3.1) the NFT against the token ID stored in the token repository 310, such as Figure 3As described in. In one aspect, the token processing server 308 receives NFT or token information provided by the NFT owner from the POA 402, and the token processing server 308 authenticates the NFT information against the NFT information stored in the token library 310. If the token ID is not stored in the token library 310, the token processing server 308 verifies (3.2) the authenticity of the NFT upon request by performing on-chain verification of the NFT using the blockchain, utilizing the appropriate NFT market computer 304. The NFT market computer 304 verifies (3.2) the public / private keys associated with the NFT blockchain and the NFT owner's crypto wallet 306. In one aspect, on-chain verification of the NFT can be performed at the time of purchase, and the token processing server 308 receives the token. In this regard, the token ID can be available in the token library 310 for off-chain authentication at a later time.
[0056] Once the verification process is complete, the token processing server 308 provides an authentication decision to the merchant computer / POA 402 through an existing payment track as an off-chain communication. The merchant computer 402 / point of access (POA) / authentication point computer provides access to the NFT to the NFT owner 312 based on the received authentication decision, such as access to an event or process. In one aspect, the NFT can provide event access. In this regard, the NFT can provide a more secure access method relative to conventional vouchers, tickets, or cards.
[0057] The authentication time for on-chain authentication is directly dependent on the underlying block rate of the specific blockchain (e.g., Solana’s current block rate is approximately 400 milliseconds; Ethereum’s current block rate is approximately 14 seconds). Once the token processing server receives the on-chain authentication in the form of a token ID, the rest of the communication is performed off-chain. The division between on-chain and off-chain communications is necessary to leverage existing payment rails, existing partners and members, tokens, payment channels, and crypto APIs. Therefore, the token processing server allows the NFT platform to integrate seamlessly with existing customer and merchant hardware. Finally, using existing payment rails allows merchants and customers to perform transactions in a more secure manner without requiring new behavior from customers and merchants. In some cases, merchants and / or customers may not be aware that a transaction uses an NFT.
[0058] Figure 5 is a logical flow diagram of a method 500 for issuing a token ID based on NFT metadata according to at least one aspect of the present disclosure. Figure 3According to method 500, an NFT author 302 creates 502 an NFT and places it in a market computer 304. An NFT owner 312 purchases 504 the NFT from the NFT market computer 304. A token processing server 308 receives 506 a request from the NFT market computer 304 to generate a token ID associated with the NFT. The token processing server 308 generates a token ID and stores it 508 in a token library 310. The token processing server 308 provides 510 the token ID to the NFT market computer 304 based on the NFT metadata and / or public and private keys. The NFT owner 312 pushes the token ID to a digital wallet 314.
[0059] Figure 6 is a logic flow diagram of a method 600 for authenticating ownership of an NFT using a payment rail in accordance with at least one aspect of the present disclosure. Figure 3 and Figure 4 According to method 600, an NFT owner initiates 602 an NFT access request at a point of access 402 (POA). The NFT owner can access his digital wallet through an application on his user device and provide a token ID to the POA through contactless tap communication. The token processing server 308 receives 604 an off-chain authentication request from the POA / merchant computer 302 on an existing payment track. The token processing server 308, together with the NFT market computer 304, verifies 606 the ownership of the NFT on the chain. The NFT market computer 304 verifies 608 the public / private key with the crypto wallet 306. The token processing server 308 provides 614 an authentication decision to the merchant computer 402 on the existing payment track (outside the chain). The token processing server 308 verifies 612 the authenticity of the token against the token library 310 and identifies the further routing of the token. In addition, the token processing server 308 provides 614 an authentication decision to the merchant computer 402 on the existing payment track (outside the chain).
[0060] Figure 7 is a logic flow diagram of a method 700 for delivering a seamless experience for authenticating an NFT that authorizes an NFT owner to access a special event in accordance with at least one aspect of the present disclosure. For example, an NFT token acts as a secure and unique key that allows the NFT owner to participate in the special event. Before the NFT owner 312 is authorized to access the special event, the process includes purchasing the NFT via the NFT token processing server 308 and creating a token ID associated with the NFT. Also refer to Figure 3 and 4According to method 700, a user becomes an NFT owner 312 by purchasing 702 an NFT on an NFT marketplace through a market computer 304. Similarly, prior to the event, an NFT token processing server 308 creates 704 a token ID. The NFT market computer 304 sends a request to the token processing server 308 to create a token ID based on the NFT metadata, and after receiving the metadata, sends the token ID to the public address of the NFT owner 312 to enable the NFT owner 312 to push the token ID to the digital wallet 314.
[0061] At the gate of a special event of the NFT owner 312, according to method 700 and also with reference to Figure 3 and Figure 4 , the NFT point of access (POA) computer 402 initiates verification of the NFT, authenticates the NFT using existing tracks, and authorizes the NFT owner 312 to access the special event. At the NFT owner's special event, the NFT owner 312 initiates 706 verification of the NFT at the access point 402 by tapping a user device (e.g., a smart watch) with a digital wallet application 314 on a POA receiver. The digital wallet application 314 stores the NFT credentials (e.g., token ID) provided to the POS terminal / gateway or any other POA device so that the NFT owner 312 can pass through the gate. Next, the token ID is authenticated 708 via the existing payment track. The payment terminal / gateway securely sends the data to the token processing server 308 on the payment track. For example, the payment gateway securely sends the data (business as usual data fields + token data) on the payment track to a payment processing company, which then sends the data to the token processing server 308 to determine whether the token ID is valid and / or associated with the NFT owner 312. If authentication is successful, the token processing server 308 sends a reply and authorizes 710 the NFT owner 312 to access the NFT owner's special events.
