[0027] Figures 1 to 8 A display fixture 10 is shown according to an embodiment of the present invention, which can be used to support and display plants or other items on a railing or similar structure. The display fixture 10 includes an upper hoop 12, a lower support base 20, and a relative spring clip 30. The upper hoop 12 includes a generally circular front portion 14 that terminates at a rear transition portion 16. In the illustrated embodiment, the front portion 14 and the rear transition portion 16 of the upper hoop 12 are located in an upper plane that is generally horizontal when the display fixture 10 is placed on the railing. Although in the illustrated embodiment, the front portion 14 of the upper hoop 12 is circular, any other suitable shape may be used, such as an oval, square, rectangular, hexagonal, octagonal, etc.
[0028] The lower support base 20 includes a first support rod 22 and a second support rod 24, which intersect each other at a transition nose 26 near the front of the display fixture 10. The first support rod 22 and the second support rod 24 terminate at a rear base transition portion 28 near the rear of the display fixture 10. In the illustrated embodiment, the lower support base 20 including the first support rod 22 and the second support rod 24 and the transition nose 26 are located in a generally horizontal lower plane when the display fixture 10 is placed on the railing. Although the first support rod 22 and the second support rod 24 shown in the figure are straight and intersect each other at the transition nose 26 to form a generally triangular shape, any other suitable support rod shape and lower support base configuration can be used. For example, each of the first support rod and the second support rod can be bent to form an arc that meets at the front of the support base, for example, the lower support base can include a generally circular lower hoop of the same shape and diameter as the generally circular upper hoop 12, or a generally circular hoop with a diameter smaller than the upper hoop 12. In addition to the generally triangular shape of the support base 20 shown in the figures or the generally circular lower support base as described above, any other suitable shape or number of base support rods may be used. For example, additional support rods may be connected to the front portion of the above-mentioned support base rods and extend radially inward therefrom. Such additional base support rods may be connected at any desired location and may be located in substantially the same lower plane as the other support rods of the lower support base 20.
[0029] like Figures 1 to 8 As further shown, the display fixture 10 may include a front connecting arm 29 extending between the upper hoop 12 and the lower support base 20. In the illustrated embodiment, the front connecting arm extends vertically from the front portion 14 of the upper hoop 12 to the transition nose 26 of the lower support base 20. However, any other suitable number and position of connecting arms may be provided between the upper hoop 12 and the lower support base 20, for example, zero, two, three, etc. connecting arms. Although the front connecting arm 29 is shown as being vertical, any other suitable orientation may be used, wherein the connecting arm extends in a direction having a vertical component, for example, a straight connecting arm angled radially inward or outward as it extends from the upper hoop 12 to the lower support base 20.
[0030] like Figures 1 to 8 As further shown, the display fixture 10 includes opposing spring clips 30 that can be used to position the display fixture 10 on a railing post, as described more fully below. Figure 1 , Figure 2 , Figure 7 and Figure 8As best shown in the figure, the rear portion of the display fixture 10 includes first and second upper clamping recesses 32 and first and second lower clamping recesses 34 that form first and second clamping channels 35 for receiving a railing post when the display fixture 10 is placed on a railing or similar structure. The post-receiving upper clamping channels 35 can be constructed and arranged to engage with a railing post to hold the display fixture 10 in a desired position on the railing. In the illustrated embodiment, the first and second clamping channels 35 have recess openings facing away from each other, and the display fixture 10 is placed on the railing post by pinching the clamping channels 35 together. Alternatively, the first and second clamping channels can have recess openings facing each other, and the display fixture is placed on the railing post by pulling the clamping channels apart.
[0031] like Figures 1 to 6 As shown, the first and second rear connecting arms 36 can extend between the first and second upper clamping recesses 32 and the first and second lower clamping recesses 34, respectively. In the illustrated embodiment, the rear connecting arm 36 extends vertically between the upper hoop 12 and the lower support base 20. However, any other suitable shape and orientation of the connecting arm can be used. The upper transition portion 37 is disposed between the upper clamping recess 32 and the rear connecting arm 36. The lower transition portion 38 is disposed between the lower clamping recess 34 and the rear connecting arm 36.
[0032] like Figure 1 and Figure 2 As most clearly shown, the upper hoop 12 transitions into the first and second upper clamping recesses 32 at the first and second rear transition portions 16. Similarly, the first support rods 22 and the second support rods 24 of the lower support base 20 transition into the first and second lower clamping recesses 34 at the first and second rear base transition portions 28. As described above, the straight first and second support rods 22, 24 may be replaced with a continuous circular hoop, in which case the first and second rear base transition portions 28 may transition into the lower base hoop in a manner similar to the transition of the upper hoop 12 with the first and second rear transition portions 16.
[0033] like Figure 1 , Figure 2 , Figure 7 and Figure 8 As shown and labeled in FIG. 1 , the upper clamping recess 32 and the lower clamping recess 34 forming the clamping channel 35 are separated from each other by a clamp separation distance C before the display clamp 10 is installed on a railing post or other structure. As further shown, the rear connecting arms 36 are separated from each other by a rear arm separation distance A before installation. As described more fully below, during installation of the display clamp 10, the opposing spring clips 30 can be forced or flexed toward each other to reduce the clamp separation distance C and the rear arm separation distance A to fit the opposing spring clips 30 between adjacent railing posts to install the display clamp 10 on the railing.
[0034] like Figure 7 and Figure 8 As shown, the shape and size of the clamping channel 35 formed by the upper clamping recess 32 and the lower clamping recess 34 can be controlled to accommodate railing posts of various sizes and shapes. Each clamping channel 35 can have a radius R and a width W, such as in Figure 8 The clamping channel radius R can typically be in the range of 0.1 inches to 1 inch, or 0.2 inches to 0.8 inches, or 0.3 inches to 0.5 inches. For smaller-sized railing posts (such as iron posts or aluminum posts), R can be relatively small, while for larger-sized railing posts (such as wooden posts or vinyl posts), R can be relatively large. The clamping channel width W can typically be in the range of 0.4 inches to 2 inches, or 0.5 inches to 1.8 inches, or 0.6 inches to 1.5 inches. For smaller-sized railing posts, W can be relatively small, while for larger-sized railing posts, W can be relatively large.
[0035] The upper hoop 12 can be set to any suitable size. For example, when the upper hoop is circular in shape, it can have a typical diameter of 4 inches to 12 inches, for example, 5 inches to 10 inches, or 6 inches to 9 inches. The height of the upper hoop 12 measured from the plane of the lower support base 20 can typically be 2 inches to 6 inches or more, for example, 3 inches to 5 inches.
[0036] The height or length of each of the rear connecting arms 30 can be the same or similar to the height of the upper hoop 12. The opposing vertical arms can be located at a distance of 3 inches to 10 inches from each other and can be selected to be slightly greater than the distance between adjacent posts of the railing on which the plant display mounting system is mounted. Although in the figures, the plant display mounting system is mounted on adjacent posts, the rear support arms can be fixed to two posts with at least one post between them.
[0037] Fig. 9 and Fig.10 The embodiment according to the present invention is shown Figures 1 to 8 A display fixture 10 similar to the display fixture shown is mounted on a railing 100. The railing 100 includes a plurality of vertical railing posts 102. Fig. 9 As shown in the front view of FIG. 1 , the display fixture 10 supports and displays the plant P, wherein the display fixture 10 and the plant P extend forward from the railing. Fig.10, the opposing spring clips 30 of the display fixture 10 contact and partially surround an adjacent railing post 102 of the railing 100. The upper clamping recess 32 and the lower clamping recess 34 contact the adjacent post 102 and can be pressed outwardly thereon to hold the display fixture 10 in a selected position along the height of the railing post 102. Each rear connecting arm 36 extending between the corresponding upper clamping recess 32 and lower clamping recess 34 extends in a direction substantially parallel to the adjacent railing post 102.
[0038] Figures 11 to 13 The steps for mounting the display fixture 10 on the railing post 102 are schematically shown. Fig.11 In the embodiment, the clamp and the relative spring clip 30 are shown as above. Figure 1 , Figure 2 , Figure 7 and Figure 8 , with an initial position of the clamp separation distance C and the rear arm separation distance A shown in . The initial clamp separation distance C may typically be in the range of 2 inches to 12 inches, or 3 inches to 11 inches, or 4 inches to 10 inches. The initial rear arm separation distance A may typically be in the range of 1 inch to 10 inches, or 2 inches to 9 inches, or 3 inches to 8 inches. In certain arrangements where the railing posts are relatively far apart, it may be desirable to increase the initial distances C and A, for example, by pulling the opposing spring clips apart to slightly deform the upper hoop 12 and lower support base 20 prior to placement on the railing posts.
[0039] exist Fig.12 In the embodiment of the present invention, the relative spring clips 30 (including their corresponding upper clamping recesses 32, lower clamping recesses 34 and rear connecting arms 36) are forced or flexed together (i.e., by manual force) to an inwardly flexed position in which the flexed clip separation distance C' is less than the initial clip separation distance C, and the flexed rear arm separation distance A' is less than the initial rear arm separation distance A. The difference between the flexed clip separation distance C' and the initial clip separation distance C can be defined as a flexed clip separation ratio C':C, which can be typically less than 0.99:1, for example, less than 0.95:1 or less than 0.9:1. The clip separation ratio C':C can be typically in the range of 0.99:1 to 0.4:1 (e.g., 0.5:1 to 0.95:1, or 0.6:1 to 0.9:1). The flexed rear arm separation distance A' is less than the initial rear arm separation distance A, so that the flexed rear arm separation distance and the initial rear arm separation distance can be defined as a flexed rear arm separation ratio A':A, which is less than 0.99:1, for example, less than 0.95:1 or less than 0.9: 1. The flexed rear arm separation ratio A':A can be in the range of 0.99:1 to 0.4:1 (e.g., 0.95:1 to 0.5:1, or 0.6:1 to 0.9:1).
[0040] exist Fig.13 In the embodiment, the relative spring clip 30 has been Fig.12 The inwardly flexed position shown is released to a resting position on the guardrail post 102. Thus, the opposing spring clips 30 (including the upper and lower clamping recesses 32, 34 and the rear connecting arm 36) are in a resting position on the adjacent guardrail post 102. In the resting position, the opposing spring clips 30 define a resting clip separation distance C" and a resting rear arm separation distance A". The resting clip separation distance C" may be greater than the flexed clip separation distance C'. Similarly, the resting rear arm separation distance A" may be greater than the flexed rear arm separation distance A'. The resting clip separation distance C" may be equal to or less than the initial clip separation distance C. Similarly, the resting rear arm separation distance A" may be equal to or less than the initial rear arm separation distance A.
[0041] Fig.14 and Fig.15 A display fixture kit 50 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown. The display fixture kit 50 includes the display fixture 10 and a packaging bag 52. In the illustrated embodiment, the packaging bag 52 is mounted on the first support rod 22 and the second support rod 24 of the lower support base 20. However, the packaging bag 52 can be mounted at various locations on the lower support base (as described above), or can be mounted at any other suitable location on the display fixture 10. The packaging bag 52 is mounted on the lower support base 20. Fig.14 is shown in the closed position and in Fig.15 is shown in the open position. Fig.15 As shown, the package 52 has an interior 54 that houses a length of buffer tube 40 that may be removed and cut to length as described more fully below.
[0042] Figures 16 to 20 The steps of cutting and installing the buffer section 42 on the upper and lower clamping recesses 32, 34 of the display fixture 10 and then placing the display fixture 10 and the buffer section 42 on the railing post 102 are shown. Fig.16 In Fig.15 An initial length of buffer tube 40 is shown cut into buffer segments 42 . Fig.16 The buffer tube 40 is shown separately before being cut into buffer segments. As shown, the buffer tube 40 may include longitudinal slits 41 that facilitate placement of the buffer segments 42 onto their respective upper and lower clamping recesses 32 and 34. Fig.17 As shown, the cushioning member segment 42 can be bent to open its cushioning member slit 41. Fig.18 In Fig.17 The curved buffer section 42 is pressed into the upper clamping recess 32 of the display fixture 10. Fig.19In FIG. 1 , the display fixture 10 having four cushioning sections 42 disposed therein is positioned for installation on adjacent railing posts 102 of a railing 100 . Fig.19 In the position shown, the spring clip 30 is in its Figure 1 , Figure 2 , Figure 7 and Figure 8 The initial position of the clamp separation distance C and the rear arm separation distance A. Fig. 20 Then, the previously bent Fig.12 The opposing spring clip 30 in the illustrated position is deployed to the illustrated seating position to engage the opposing railing post 102 .
[0043] Fig.21 and Fig. 22 1 shows another embodiment of the display fixture 110 according to the present invention. Each display fixture 110 has Figures 1 to 8 The embodiment shown has similar structural features, except that the front connecting arm 29 is absent. Fig.21 In FIG. 1 , two display fixtures 110 are mounted on different pairs of railing posts 102. Fig. 22 In the embodiment shown, a single display fixture 110 is mounted on adjacent railing posts 102.
[0044] The display fixture can be made of a single or multiple piece rod or wire. Any suitable cross-sectional shape and specification or thickness rod can be used, for example, a diameter of 0.1 inch to 0.3 inch or 0.4 inch, or 0.12 inch to 0.25 inch, or 0.15 inch to 0.2 inch. The rod can be made of any suitable material, such as metal, for example steel, aluminum, etc. For example, the rod can include steel, which can be optionally painted, powder coated or dip-coated. Alternatively, the rod can be made of relatively rigid plastic, in which case the shape and thickness of the rod can be adjusted to provide enough support and flexibility for the display fixture. The rod can be set to any desired color.
[0045] In one embodiment, plants or other items can be displayed at any desired height up and down along the column. In another embodiment, plants or other items can be displayed at the base of the railing by using the column and the bottom bar or the ground for support. This allows the user to have an unobstructed top bar and a top-down view of container gardening, rather than the surface of the window sill flower box (resting on the top of the railing) or the bottom of the hanging flower pot. The rear relative spring clips 30 can be squeezed together to slide between the two columns and then unfolded when released to partially wrap around the column. Contact with the column stabilizes the display fixtures 10 and 110 and prohibits more than a small movement from side to side or from front to back. Some columns may require additional support with commercially available rolling bands, washers, clips, etc. around the column under the device. In one embodiment, the structure can slide down along the column to contact the ground, floor or bottom bar. In this embodiment, the ground, floor or bottom bar can provide support for the weight of plants and flower pots.
[0046] Placed outside, display fixtures can provide curb appeal and create more living space inside an outdoor living space. Placed inside, display fixtures can secure plants or other items to railing posts so that they will not blow away due to wind conditions, for example. Placed on indoor railings or stairs, display fixtures can provide a decorative element for indoor plants and seasonal decorations.
