Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an agrochemical composition, and in particular, to a herbicidal composition comprising a PS II photosynthesis inhibitor herbicide and an acetolactate synthase inhibitor herbicide. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a herbicidal composition comprising an aniline herbicide and a pyrimidinylsulfonylurea herbicide. The present disclosure also relates to a method for preparing the herbicidal composition and a method for using the herbicidal composition to control weeds. Background Art

[0002] Herbicides are chemicals specifically used to control weeds. The mode of action of herbicides is a biochemical or physical mechanism that is used to control unwanted plants or weeds. Most herbicides control unwanted plants or weeds by disrupting or altering one or more metabolic processes of the plants. However, there are certain unwanted plant / weed species or groups of unwanted plant / weed species that are insensitive to certain herbicides. This may be because the herbicides use different biochemical pathways or the herbicides have slightly different enzymes. Therefore, herbicides are usually selected for use based on their mode of action.

[0003] In addition, compositions containing herbicides have been used for weed control for decades. However, they still have some drawbacks. These compositions do not have any herbicidal activity / sufficient herbicidal activity against specific harmful / unwanted plants, the range of harmful / unwanted plants that can be controlled by the herbicide is not wide enough, the selectivity and compatibility of the herbicide with the crop are too low, resulting in unnecessary damage and / or an unnecessary reduction in the crop harvest yield, the initial herbicidal activity is unacceptable or not strong enough and / or the duration of the herbicidal activity is not long enough. For these reasons, there is a continuous need to develop herbicidal compositions that overcome the above drawbacks.

[0004] The use of herbicidal combinations is a widespread and well-documented practice in the agricultural field. Herbicidal combinations offer significant advantages over single applications, including improved and extended weed control, reduced herbicide application rates and costs, shorter exposure times for improved effects, reduced strict use restrictions, increased selectivity, a wider range of weed control, and reduced residual problems. However, in such combinations, the selection of the inert ingredients is crucial because, very often, adding one active ingredient to a composition of another single active ingredient further exacerbates the stability problems.

[0005] Propanil is an aniline herbicide with the chemical name 3',4'-dichloropropionanilide, and it is a widely used contact herbicide. However, in addition to having a relatively low melting point, propanil is prone to hydrolysis. If the energy input during the formation of the aqueous paste is too high, the formation of this paste may make it more difficult to achieve stability during processing. Therefore, there are several limitations on the inactive ingredients that can be used to prepare propanil granules.

[0006] Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl is a pyrimidinylsulfonylurea herbicide with the chemical name 1-(2-chloro-6-propylimidazo[1,2-b]pyridazin-3-ylsulfonyl)-3-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)urea. Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl is used as a rice herbicide to control annual and perennial paddy weeds, including Echinochloa, Cyperus, and broadleaf weeds. Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl shows characteristics that are safer for human health and the environment.

[0007] Patent application CN106489972A discloses a herbicidal composition containing pyrazosulfuron-ethyl and propanil in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 1:100 as active ingredients. This composition may also contain an agrochemical active compound (pyrazosulfuron-ethyl). In addition, this application does not disclose aspects related to improving the stability and suspension of the composition containing propanil and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl.

[0008] PCT publication WO2016116797A1 discloses a composition containing modified crystalline propanil and at least one other insecticide (pyrazosulfuron-ethyl). However, this publication does not disclose aspects related to improving the stability and suspension of the composition.

[0009] The inventors of the present disclosure have found that known compositions containing a combination of propanil and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl have poor suspension, and generally cannot pass the wet sieve test, and the shelf life of these compositions is short. These products show a considerable amount of precipitation over time, usually forming hard rock-like lumps at the bottom of the storage container. The increase in precipitation further exacerbates the problem of nozzle blockage during spraying application by farmers. Therefore, it has been found that when such compositions are prepared as diluted liquids or solutions for spraying, due to the relatively high insoluble content, after a certain period of time, the composition loses its sprayability. This sometimes leads to farmers rejecting otherwise useful products, which is undoubtedly undesirable.

[0010] Therefore, there is still a need to develop a stable herbicidal composition containing propanil and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl (preferably in the free acid form) to address the above challenges and also not affect the efficacy associated with the herbicidal composition.

Detailed Description

[0315] Example :

[0316] Example 1: Propanil and pyribenzoxim WDG composition

[0317] The agrochemical composition of the present invention is formulated as water-dispersible granules (WG or WDG).

[0318]

[0319] Method :

[0320] Propanil is mixed with pyribenzoxim, alkyl sulfate (sodium lauryl sulfate), polycarboxylate dispersant (potassium polycarboxylate), and at least one agrochemically acceptable excipient to obtain a mixture. The mixture is ground and a dough is prepared. The dough is extruded to obtain granules. The obtained granules are dried in the temperature range of about 45°C to about -50°C to obtain the agrochemical composition.

[0321] Examples 2 - 5: Study on suspensibility and wet - sieve retention

[0322] The suspension and wet sieve retention studies were carried out on the compositions in Examples 2-5, and the results are listed in Table 1.

[0323] Table 1: Study on suspensibility and wet - sieve retention

[0324]

[0325] As can be seen from the results in Table 1, Examples 2 and 5 have a combination of an alkyl sulfate (sodium lauryl sulfate) and a polycarboxylate dispersant (potassium polycarboxylate). When examined according to CIPAC Method MT 184 and CIPAC Method MT 185, respectively, the compositions from these two examples exhibited a suspension of greater than 75% w / w and a wet sieve retention of less than 0.1% w / w. The compositions of Examples 3 and 4 do not have a combination of an alkyl sulfate (sodium lauryl sulfate) and a polycarboxylate dispersant (potassium polycarboxylate), and they do not have the desired properties, i.e., when examined according to CIPAC Method MT 184 and CIPAC Method MT 185, respectively, a suspension of greater than 75% w / w and a wet sieve retention of less than 0.1% w / w.

[0326] Therefore, sodium lauryl sulfate is essential for wet sieving, and potassium polycarboxylate is essential for suspension and dispersibility. Thus, it is clearly seen from the study of the suspension and wet sieve retention parameters that a combination of an alkyl sulfate and a polycarboxylate dispersant is essential for the compositions of propanil and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl to exhibit the desired suspension and wet sieve retention.

[0327] Example 6: Stability under AHS conditions

[0328] The stability of the water-dispersible granule composition disclosed in Example 1 was evaluated. The stability of the composition was continuously measured for about 14 days under accelerated heat stability (AHS) conditions at about 54 °C and has been disclosed in Table 2.

[0329] Table 2: Stability study

[0330]

[0331] After accelerated storage at 54 °C ± 2 °C for 14 days, there were no significant changes in the physical or chemical properties (i.e., active ingredient content, wet sieve test, and suspension) of the composition.

[0332] Example 7: Real - time data of stability study

[0333] The stability of the water-dispersible granule composition disclosed in Example 1 was evaluated. The stability of the composition was determined for 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 months and is disclosed in Table 3.

[0334] Example 3: Stability study

[0335]

[0336] Therefore, it was observed that when stored for a period of 6 months to 30 months, propanil and pyribenzoxim WDG were stable.
