[0039] As a niche market within wearable devices, smart rings have gradually gained favor with tech giants and consumers in recent years. They typically connect wirelessly to devices such as smartphones to monitor human health and push notifications to users via their phones.

[0040] While current smart rings offer convenience in areas like health monitoring, they generally lack key sensors and input / output components, such as microphones. This lack of components limits the application of smart rings in many functions, such as voice control, calls, and high-quality multimedia experiences. For example, if users need to make voice calls or interact with smart assistants while using a smart ring, they must rely on other devices, such as smartphones or headphones, which undoubtedly increases the complexity of use and reduces convenience. Furthermore, smart rings without speakers cannot provide audio feedback, which may affect the user experience in certain situations, such as not being able to directly hear notifications or music through the ring while exercising.

[0041] Embodiments of this disclosure provide a ring 100 to solve, or at least partially solve, the aforementioned problems or other potential problems present in conventional rings. Figure 1 A perspective view of a ring 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown; Figure 2 An exploded view of the ring 100 is shown; Figure 3 and Figure 4 The side view and front view of the ring 100 are shown respectively; and Figure 5 A cross-sectional view of the ring 100 is shown. (As shown) Figures 1 to 5 As shown, the ring 100 according to an embodiment of this disclosure generally includes a housing 101 and a functional component 102. The housing 101 is configured to have an annular shape to be suitable for a user to wear on their finger. The housing 101 has a cavity and a sound pickup hole 1013 formed on its outer wall. The cavity also has a generally annular shape. The sound pickup hole 1013 allows sound to pass through and enter the cavity.

[0042] In some embodiments, to ensure that sound can enter the cavity while maintaining the waterproof and dustproof capabilities of the ring 100, a waterproof and sound-permeable membrane may be provided on the inner side of the outer wall where the pickup hole 1013 is located. The waterproof and sound-permeable membrane can effectively prevent water from entering the cavity and causing damage to the functional component 102, while also allowing sound to pass through and enter the cavity.

[0043] In some embodiments, to facilitate user input of sound through the pickup hole 1013, when the ring 100 is worn on the index finger, the pickup hole 1013 is located on the outer wall of the ring 100 on the thumb side or on the outer wall of the ring 100 on the back of the finger. In this way, when the user needs to input voice commands or voice information through the ring 100, when the user raises the hand wearing the ring 100 and places it near the mouth, the pickup hole 1013 can be close to the user's mouth, thereby facilitating the entry of the user's voice into the cavity and improving the pickup performance of the ring 100.

[0044] Functional component 102 is arranged in the cavity and is capable of performing various functions required by the ring 100. According to embodiments of this disclosure, functional component 102 includes at least a microphone unit 1022 and a communication unit 1021. The communication unit 1021 can establish a data transmission link with an external device and transmit data through appropriate means, including but not limited to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular networks, or near-field communication (NFC). Considering the low-power transmission performance of Bluetooth, embodiments of this disclosure will primarily describe the concept according to this disclosure using the ring 100 connecting to an external device via Bluetooth as an example. It should be understood that other communication methods are similar and will not be described in detail below. Furthermore, external devices in this document may include, but are not limited to, terminal devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, or desktop computers, as well as headphones or speakers.

[0045] The microphone unit 1022 is configured to receive external sound from the pickup hole 1013 and is electrically connected to the communication unit 1021 to transmit the external sound to an external device. By equipping the microphone unit 1022, in certain usage scenarios, such as when it is inconvenient for the user to take out an external device like a mobile phone, the user can use the microphone unit 1022 on the ring 100 to input voice information or voice commands to the external device, conveniently controlling the external device to perform various functions or input information. In this way, the user experience when using the ring 100 and external devices can be significantly improved.

[0046] In some embodiments, the chamber may include at least a microphone chamber 1011 and a communication chamber 1012 to accommodate a microphone unit 1022 and a communication unit 1021, respectively. In some embodiments, the microphone chamber 1011 and the communication chamber 1012 may be independent and sealed chambers, and the electrical connection between them is established only by appropriate means, as will be further explained below. The pickup hole 1013 mentioned above is arranged on the outer wall corresponding to the microphone chamber 1011 to facilitate the introduction of sound from the outside into the microphone chamber 1011. Keeping the microphone chamber 1011 and other parts of the chamber, including the communication chamber 1012, independent and sealed can improve the sound pickup performance of the microphone unit 1022 and improve the waterproof capability of the entire ring 100. Of course, in some alternative embodiments, the microphone chamber 1011 and the communication chamber 1012 may also be chambers that are interconnected in terms of airflow, and the embodiments of this disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0047] In some embodiments, the ring 100 may further include a sealing ring. For ease of description, this sealing ring will be referred to hereinafter as a first sealing ring 103. The first sealing ring 103 is disposed in the microphone cavity 1011 and is located between the outer wall and the microphone unit 1022 to form a pickup cavity between the pickup hole 1013 and the microphone unit 1022. In this way, the pickup performance of the microphone unit 1022 can be further improved.

[0048] In some embodiments, functional component 102 may further include a speaker unit (not shown). The speaker unit may be arranged in a speaker cavity within the chamber. Housing 101 also includes a sound outlet formed on its outer wall to allow sound played by the speaker unit to exit from inside the chamber. The sound outlet may be an array of multiple holes to facilitate sound output. In some embodiments, to ensure sound output while preventing water or other foreign objects from entering the chamber, similar to the pickup hole 1013, a waterproof and sound-permeable membrane may be provided on the inner side of the outer wall forming the sound outlet.

[0049] In some embodiments, the speaker unit may be electrically connected to the communication unit 1021 and used to play sound data received via the communication unit 1021. In this way, users can conveniently hear sound through the ring 100 without headphones or other sound output devices, thereby further improving the user experience.

[0050] In some embodiments, to facilitate user operation of the ring 100, the ring 100 may also include a button 104. The button 104 may include at least one of a mechanical button 104, a capacitive button 104, and a pressure-sensitive button 104. For ease of description, the following description will primarily use a mechanical button 104 as an example to illustrate the concept of this disclosure. It should be understood that the same applies to other types of buttons 104, and they will not be described in detail below.

[0051] In some embodiments, when the ring 100 is worn, the button 104 is located on the thumb side of the ring 100. This allows the user to easily press and operate the button 104. In some embodiments, the functional component 102 further includes a button unit 1023. The button unit 1023 is disposed in a chamber and coupled to the button 104. The button unit 1023 is configured to generate a press input signal in response to receiving a user press on the button 104. The press input signal can be transmitted to an external device via the communication unit 1021, thereby providing input to the external device to achieve the corresponding function. Furthermore, in some embodiments, the press input signal can also be used to directly control the opening and closing of the microphone unit 1022 and / or the speaker unit, which will be further described below.

[0052] In some embodiments, for ease of installation of the button 104 and for easy pressing by the user, the housing 101 includes a button hole 1010, and the chamber also includes a button cavity 1014 corresponding to the button hole 1010. One end of the button 104 is connected to the button unit 1023 within the button cavity 1014, and the other end of the button 104 is exposed to the outside through the button hole 1010 for pressing by the user.

[0053] In some embodiments, to prevent moisture or dust from entering the cavity through the key hole 1010, the finger ring 100 may further include a second sealing ring 105. The second sealing ring 105 is disposed in the key cavity 1014 and surrounds the key hole 1010. The second sealing ring 105 includes an insulating layer disposed between the key 104 and the key unit 1023. In this way, the key unit 1023 can be effectively isolated in the sealed key cavity 1014 while still allowing the user to press the exposed key 104, thereby improving waterproofing and enhancing the user experience.

[0054] In some embodiments, functional component 102 may further include a processor disposed within the chamber. The processor is configured at least to control the microphone unit 1022 to turn on or off based on a press input signal. That is, the processing unit may be coupled to button unit 1023 to cause the user to turn the microphone unit 1022 on or off in response to a press input signal generated by the user pressing button 104. For example, when a user needs to input voice commands to an external device, they can turn on the microphone unit 1022 and input sound into the microphone unit 1022 by long-pressing (or other suitable pressing method). In some embodiments, the processor may also control the speaker unit to turn on or off based on a press input signal.

[0055] Of course, it should be understood that the above examples of controlling the microphone unit 1022 and / or speaker unit to turn on or off via button 104 are merely illustrative and not intended to be within the scope of this disclosure. Button 104 and button unit 1023 may also have other uses, and the microphone unit 1022 or speaker unit may be turned on or off in other ways. For example, in some embodiments, the press input signal emitted by button unit 1023 may also provide corresponding input for other functions of external devices to achieve corresponding functions. In some embodiments, the microphone unit 1022 or speaker unit may also be turned on or off by control of external devices.

[0056] In some embodiments, the ring 100 can provide light and / or vibration output in addition to sound output via the speaker unit. For example, in some embodiments, the functional component 102 may also include an indicator light unit 1024. The indicator light unit 1024 is electrically connected to the communication unit 1021 to output light with a predetermined frequency and / or predetermined color, at least based on control signals provided by the communication unit 1021. For example, an external device may output a specified signal to the indicator light unit 1024 via the communication unit 1021. The indicator light outputs flashing, constant light (for a predetermined time), single color, and / or alternating multi-color light, etc., according to the corresponding signal.

[0057] In some embodiments, the indicator light unit 1024 may be arranged in the indicator light cavity 1015 of the chamber. The indicator light cavity 1015 has a light output portion 1016 formed on its outer wall, thereby allowing light to be emitted from the indicator light cavity 1015. In some embodiments, the light output portion 1016 may be a through hole formed on its outer wall. In this case, in order to maintain the airtightness of the indicator light cavity 1015 while allowing light to pass through, a light-transmitting but airtight material may be provided inside the through hole. In some embodiments, the light output portion 1016 may also be a transparent or translucent portion formed on its outer wall.

[0058] In some embodiments, the light output portion 1016 may have a suitable shape and size. For example, in some embodiments, the light output portion 1016 may be a through-hole for light to pass through, and the cross-sectional shape of the through-hole may include, but is not limited to, a circle, an ellipse, a square, a triangle, a star, a polygon, or other suitable regular or irregular shapes. In some embodiments, alternatively or additionally, the indicator light cavity 1015 also has a light output portion formed on the sidewall. In such embodiments, the light output portion 1016 may also be a light strip extending along at least a portion of the contour of the ring 100. That is, the light output portion formed on the sidewall may be semi-annular or annular.

[0059] In some embodiments, the ring 100 may further include a vibrator unit (not shown). The vibrator unit is disposed in the chamber and electrically connected to the communication unit 1021 to vibrate at least based on a control signal provided by the communication unit 1021. For example, when an external device has a matter that requires user attention, the external device can send a control signal to the vibrator unit through the communication unit 1021 to control the vibrator to vibrate, thereby reminding the user to handle the matter presented in the external device.

[0060] In some embodiments, the ring 100 may further include a battery unit 106. The battery unit 106 may include a battery management unit 1061 and a battery component 1062. The power management unit 1061 is disposed in a battery management cavity 1017 within a chamber. The battery component 1062 is disposed in the battery cavity and coupled to the power management unit 1061 to supply power to the functional components 102 via the power management unit 1061. The battery management unit 1061 is capable of managing the power supply from the battery component 1062 to the various units in the functional components 102, thereby ensuring the normal operation of each unit. The battery component 1062 may have a shape corresponding to the annular chamber of the ring 100, thereby enabling a larger capacity battery to be arranged in a limited space to ensure the ring 100's battery life.

[0061] In some embodiments, the battery unit 106 may further include charging contacts 1063 and / or a wireless charging module. Specifically, a pair of charging contacts 1063 are arranged to expose the exterior of the housing 101 and coupled to the power management unit 1061 to connect to an external charging terminal to charge the battery component 1062. The pair of charging contacts 1063 may be arranged inside the ring 100. When charging is required, the user can remove the ring 100 from their finger and couple the charging contacts 1063 to the external charging terminal to charge the battery component 1062.

[0062] In some embodiments, as mentioned above, the battery cell 106 may further include a wireless charging module disposed within the housing 101 and configured to couple with an external charging coil to charge the battery component 1062. At least a portion of the wireless charging module may be disposed within a cavity or in a wall of the housing 101 (e.g., in the outer housing 1018 or inner housing 1019, as will be mentioned below) to facilitate coupling with an external charging coil to charge the battery component 1062.

[0063] In some embodiments, housing 101 may further include an outer housing 1018 and an inner housing 1019. The outer housing 1018 includes a pickup hole 1013, as mentioned above, formed thereon. In some embodiments, similar to the pickup hole 1013, the sound outlet hole and / or button hole 1010, as mentioned above, may also be formed on the outer housing 1018. The outer housing 1018 may have a complete annulus and a U-shaped cross-section in the radial direction, thereby facilitating the arrangement of the various units in the functional component 102. The inner housing 1019 is arranged radially inside the outer housing 1018 and is hermetically coupled to the outer housing 1018 to form a chamber. In some embodiments, similar to the outer housing 1018, the inner housing 1019 may also have a complete annulus and a U-shaped cross-section in the radial direction, thereby facilitating the arrangement of the various units in the functional component 102. As mentioned above, in some embodiments, at least a portion of the wireless charging module (e.g., a charging coil) may be arranged in the inner housing 1019 or the outer housing 1018.

[0064] In some embodiments, the inner housing 1019 can be formed by potting and curing. Specifically, the outer housing 1018 can be first placed in an appropriate position in a mold, and the various units of the aforementioned functional component 102 can be placed according to predetermined positions. After the various units of the functional component 102 are placed in the appropriate positions on the outer housing 1018, the positions of the various units can be fixed by appropriate jigs, and liquid adhesive can be poured into the mold. After the adhesive cures, appropriate grinding or trimming can be performed to form a sealed chamber and the inner housing 1019. In this way, the ring 100 can be made easier to manufacture and has better sealing performance, improving the sealing and waterproof performance of the ring 100.

[0065] The various parts of the chamber formed in this way—namely, the microphone chamber 1011, indicator light chamber 1015, button chamber 1014, communication chamber 1012, battery management chamber 1017, and the speaker chamber and vibrator chamber (not shown in the figure)—can each be an independent chamber. These chambers are electrically connected only through appropriate electrical connections (such as the flexible circuit board mentioned below). This method improves the overall waterproofing of the ring 100 and the stability and reliability of the functional components 1012.

[0066] Of course, it should be understood that the above-described arrangement of the various parts within the chamber is merely illustrative and is not intended to limit the scope of protection of this disclosure. The various parts within the chamber may also have other arrangements. For example, in some alternative embodiments, at least some of the chambers may be interconnected or isolated from each other by other suitable means, and this disclosure does not impose any limitations on this.

[0067] In some embodiments, to facilitate the arrangement of the various units of the functional component 102 within the annular cavity, the various units of the functional component 102 may be arranged on a flexible printed circuit board, such that the functional component 102 is arranged along the annular cavity of the ring 100. The flexible circuit board may have a certain strength, or only a certain structural strength at specific locations, thereby providing support, for example, when the button 104 is pressed, ensuring the reliability of the ring 100 and the corresponding units.

[0068] In some embodiments, functional component 102 further includes a sensor, which is at least partially disposed within housing 101 and configured to receive user-related status data.

[0069] In some embodiments, the sensor may include GPS, IMU, etc., to obtain the user's motion information.

[0070] In some embodiments, the sensor may include a motion sensor and / or a health sensor. For example, the health sensor is at least partially disposed within the housing 101 and configured to determine the user's health data based on acquired vital signs information, including at least one of heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation. This health data may be transmitted via the communication unit 1021 to an external device for further use and processing to enhance the user experience.

[0071] For example, health sensors may include heart rate sensors, blood oxygen sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, accelerometers, electrical skin response (EDA) sensors, and / or bioimpedance analysis (BIA). Heart rate sensors can use photoplethysmography (PPG) or electrocardiography (ECG) techniques to monitor heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV). Blood oxygen sensors can use PPG sensors with red and infrared light to estimate blood oxygen saturation. Temperature sensors can measure skin surface or internal body temperature to monitor changes in body temperature. Pressure sensors can detect changes in the pressure of gases or liquids for blood pressure monitoring, etc. Accelerometers can measure body movement and activity levels for motion tracking.
