Technical Field
[0002] This disclosure relates to an aerosol generating apparatus for use with an aerosol generating article. In particular, this disclosure relates to an aerosol generating apparatus including a housing and a heater assembly configured to heat the aerosol generating article. The housing includes a cavity at least partially defined by a curved, concave inner wall of the housing. This disclosure also relates to an aerosol generating system including an aerosol generating apparatus and an aerosol generating article configured for use with the aerosol generating apparatus. Background Technology
[0003] Aerosol-generating articles, such as those in which an aerosol-generating matrix containing a tobacco matrix is heated rather than burned, are known in the art. In heated aerosol-generating articles, aerosols are generated by heating the aerosol-generating matrix.
[0004] One type of aerosol generation system is an electrically operated smoking system. Known handheld electrically operated smoking systems typically include an aerosol generation device comprising a rechargeable battery, control electronics, and an electric heater for heating an aerosol-generating article specifically designed for use with the aerosol generation device. In some instances, the aerosol-generating article comprises an aerosol-forming matrix, such as a tobacco stick or tobacco rod, and when the aerosol-generating article is inserted into the aerosol generation device, the heater, housed within the aerosol generation device, is inserted into or positioned around the aerosol-forming matrix.
[0005] A heating element can be incorporated into an aerosol generating apparatus to generate inhalable vapor. Such an apparatus heats the aerosol generating matrix contained within an aerosol generating article without burning the aerosol generating matrix. In doing so, the aerosol generating matrix can generate an aerosol, which can then be delivered to a user.
[0006] Such aerosol-generating articles can be in the form of conventional cigarettes. In this case, the aerosol-generating matrix can be wrapped in cigarette paper. This method may be suitable when the aerosol-generating matrix comprises strands or strips of material (e.g., strands of cast tobacco or strands of shredded tobacco).
[0007] However, this method may not be effective in preserving other forms of aerosol generating matrix, such as granular or powdered aerosol generating matrices. Such aerosol generating articles are susceptible to leakage of the aerosol generating matrix during their storage, handling, and use. Leakage of the aerosol generating matrix can be exacerbated by high ambient temperatures and humidity. Loss of the aerosol generating matrix through leakage can adversely reduce the lifespan of aerosol generating articles that include the aerosol generating matrix. Leakage of the aerosol generating matrix can negatively impact the overall performance of the aerosol generating article. For example, leakage of the aerosol generating matrix can negatively affect the consistency of the inhalable aerosols generated by an aerosol generating system that includes the aerosol generating article.
[0008] To provide an aerosol generating article in which the loss or leakage of the aerosol generating matrix is reduced or prevented even when the aerosol generating article is heated to the temperature required to generate aerosols from the aerosol generating matrix, an aerosol generating article comprising a container may be provided. Such an aerosol generating article may be able to retain different forms of the aerosol generating matrix, such as granular or powdered aerosol generating matrix. Such an aerosol generating article comprising a container, when used in combination with a suitable aerosol generating apparatus, can be easily handled and manipulated by the consumer. However, prior art aerosol generating apparatus may not be suitable for heating aerosol generating articles comprising containers. For example, inserting a heating element into an aerosol generating article comprising a container may adversely cause leakage of the aerosol generating matrix from the container. Additionally, existing heaters configured to externally heat the aerosol generating article may not provide effective heating sufficient to generate a consistent aerosol from the aerosol generating article comprising a container. Summary of the Invention
[0009] There is a need for an aerosol generating apparatus suitable for use with an aerosol generating article, such as an aerosol generating article including a container.
[0010] An aerosol generating apparatus is required, wherein the aerosol generating matrix of the aerosol generating product is uniformly distributed when disposed in the aerosol generating apparatus.
[0011] There is a need for an aerosol generation device that can provide more consistent aerosol delivery throughout the user experience.
[0012] According to this disclosure, an aerosol generating apparatus is provided. The aerosol generating apparatus can be used with an aerosol generating article. The aerosol generating apparatus may include a housing. The housing may define a cavity. The cavity is configured to receive an aerosol generating article. The housing is movable between an open position and a closed position. The open position is configured such that the aerosol generating article can be inserted into the housing. The closed position is configured such that the aerosol generating article can be inserted into the cavity of the housing. The closed position is configured such that the aerosol generating article can be accommodated within the housing. The closed position is configured such that the aerosol generating article can be accommodated within the cavity of the housing. The aerosol generating apparatus may include a heater assembly. The heater assembly is configured to heat the aerosol generating article. The heater assembly is configured to heat the aerosol generating article when it is disposed in the cavity. The cavity may be at least partially defined by a curved concave inner wall of the housing. The curved concave inner wall of the housing is configured to receive at least a portion of the aerosol generating article. The cavity may be a substantially enclosed space. The curved concave inner wall may have a radius of curvature of at least 1 mm in the first direction.
[0013] According to this disclosure, an aerosol generating apparatus is provided for use with an aerosol generating article. The aerosol generating apparatus includes a housing defining a cavity configured to receive an aerosol generating article. The housing is movable between an open position, in which the aerosol generating article can be inserted into the housing, and in a closed position, the aerosol generating article can be accommodated within the housing. The aerosol generating apparatus includes a heater assembly configured to heat the aerosol generating article when it is disposed in the cavity. The cavity is at least partially defined by a curved concave inner wall of the housing. The curved concave inner wall of the housing is configured to receive at least a portion of the aerosol generating article. The cavity is a substantially enclosed space. The curved concave inner wall has a radius of curvature of at least 1 mm in a first direction.
[0014] With its curved concave inner wall, the cavity of the device can receive aerosol-generating articles and provide improved aerosols. The curved concave inner wall provides a volume for accommodating the aerosol-generating articles. This allows the aerosol-generating matrix of the aerosol-generating articles to be reliably and uniformly distributed within the cavity, resulting in more reliable heating and gas flow through the aerosol-generating articles. Because the curved concave inner wall reduces variations in matrix distribution, the resulting aerosol properties are more consistent across different aerosol-generating devices and systems.

More specifically, the extension of a planar object in the first dimension and the second dimension perpendicular to the first dimension may be at least two, five, or ten times greater than its extension in the third dimension perpendicular to the first and second dimensions.
[0024] As used herein, the term "longitudinal" refers to the direction aligned with the airflow path through the aerosol-generated article within the aerosol generating apparatus. The longitudinal direction can be aligned with the aerosol outlet of the apparatus. The recess may form at least 70% of the cavity. The recess may form at least 80% of the cavity. The recess may form at least 90% of the cavity. [0031] A curved concave inner wall may have at least a portion with zero Gaussian curvature. A curved concave inner wall may have zero Gaussian curvature. Those skilled in the art will understand that the term "Gaussian curvature" is an intrinsic invariant of a surface under isometric transformation. Gaussian curvature is the product of the two principal curvatures of a surface. A surface with positive Gaussian curvature is a sphere, a surface with negative Gaussian curvature is a hyperboloid (saddle shape), and a surface with zero Gaussian curvature is called a developable surface. A developable surface can be flattened by a pure bending transformation (isometric transformation) without stretching or compression. In the case of isometric transformation (bending only), a 2D plane can be transformed into a curved surface, provided that the Gaussian curvature of the surface does not change during the transformation. As an example, a flat sheet with zero Gaussian curvature still has zero Gaussian curvature after it is rolled into a cylinder. If the Gaussian curvature of a surface changes during its deformation, it must be accompanied by stretching, resulting in a distortion of the distance between material points on the surface. This transformation occurs when a spherical shell is formed from a flat sheet. For non-stretchable sheets, this would be impossible if the sheet did not wrinkle (wrinkling can introduce irreversible creases into the sheet). If the sheet is stretchable, it can stretch instead of wrinkle, but the shell will require at least one singularity, where the material points must be distorted.
[0032] An aerosol generating device is provided by means of a curved, concave inner wall of a cavity with zero Gaussian curvature. This device can receive the aerosol-generated article without stretching it, while simultaneously allowing the aerosol-generated article to fill the aerosol generating cavity. This provides particularly suitable aerosols and an improved user experience.

[0147] like Figure 3 As can be seen, in the open position, the aerosol generating article 20 can be received in the base 300. In the closed position, the aerosol generating article is housed within the device housing 11 between the cap 200 and the base 300.
[0148] The cap 200 includes a curved concave inner wall 210. The curved concave inner wall 210 has a semi-cylindrical shape. The curved concave inner wall 210 has a radius of curvature of at least 1 mm. The curved concave inner wall 210 defines a recess having a recess width 206. The recess has a recess depth in the longitudinal direction 201.
[0149] The curved concave inner wall 210 is configured to receive part of the aerosol-generated article 20. The curved concave inner wall 210 has zero Gaussian curvature. The curved concave inner wall 210 is a deployable surface.
[0150] The cap 200 includes a first arm 250 and a second arm 260. For example, as... Figure 4 As shown, the first cap arm 250 and the second cap arm 260 extend along the length of the cap 200 in the longitudinal direction 201. The curved concave inner wall 210 and the first cap arm 250 and the second cap arm 260 define a recess having a recess height 205.
[0151] like Figure 3As shown in (b), the first cap arm 250 and the second cap arm 260 are configured to hold the aerosol-generating article between the cap 200 and the base 300 when the cap and base are in the closed position.
[0152] The cap 200 includes a first cap extension 241 and a second cap extension 242. Figure 4 The curved concave inner wall 210 and Figure 3 Similar to the curved concave inner wall 210, a concave shape is provided, which the inner portion 29 of the aerosol generating article 20 can easily conform to. Given that... Figure 4 The curved concave inner wall 210 has zero Gaussian curvature and defines the shape of the unfoldable surface, so that the inner portion 29 can conform to the shape of the curved concave inner wall 210 without stretching.
[0156] Figure 5 A second embodiment of the aerosol generating apparatus 100 and the aerosol generating article 20 is shown, wherein the aerosol generating apparatus is in the off position.
