[0019] The present invention describes a stroller assembly that can be converted for different uses. For example, the stroller assembly can be converted between a walking or jogging mode and a trailer mode (for example, for use with a bicycle).

[0020] Certain strollers can be converted into trailers. However, such strollers may have limited functionality as trailers because they may not be able to adjust their center of gravity to achieve adequate stability.

[0021] The stroller assembly according to the present invention can change its center of gravity in different use modes and thus has relatively high stability in both trailer mode and stroller mode. In addition, the stroller assembly according to the present invention can be relatively more compact, easier to manufacture, or relatively simple to convert and use in different modes.

[0022] In an embodiment, the present invention describes a convertible stroller assembly that is convertible between a stroller configuration and a trailer configuration. The assembly includes a stroller frame that includes a pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs. The assembly further includes a plurality of wheels that are coupled to the stroller frame and include at least one removable front wheel. The assembly further includes a seat frame that is adjustably coupled to the stroller frame. The seat frame is adjustable between a first position and a second position lower than the first position relative to the pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs. The assembly is convertible between (i) a stroller configuration in which the front wheels are coupled to the stroller frame and the seat frame is in the first position and (ii) a trailer configuration in which the front wheels are not present and the seat frame is in a second position having a lower center of gravity than the first position.

[0023] Thus, in stroller mode, the passenger can sit in a higher position, and in trailer mode, the passenger can sit in a lower position. The shift in the passenger's weight can result in a shift in the center of gravity, and thus the stroller can provide sufficient stability in both jogging and trailer modes.

[0024] In one embodiment, a stroller assembly includes a rear frame assembly, a front frame assembly, and a handle hinged around a pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs. A seat frame can be secured to the rear frame assembly and can slide along the rear frame assembly between two different positions. The rear frame assembly can include corresponding detents, tabs, or locks to stably hold the seat frame in each position. In some embodiments, the seat frame may not be slidable, but rather can be securely secured by removal and reinstallation at each different position.

[0025] The stroller can be foldable, for example by relatively rotating the wheel hubs around parts of the stroller frame. For example, in the stroller mode, the stroller can be folded for storage.

[0026] When used in trailer mode (for example, by removing the front wheels), the center of gravity can be adjusted to provide greater stability. For example, the seat frame can be lowered.

[0027] The stroller assembly may further include a canopy bar for holding a canopy, and the canopy may be foldable. In some embodiments, the canopy is foldable in the stroller mode but is fixed in the trailer mode to provide additional protection to the occupant in the trailer mode.

[0028] The front wheels are removable. In some embodiments, in trailer mode, the wheels can be stowed in the rear or side storage areas or storage clips. The stroller assembly can further receive a hitch from a bicycle, for example, at the front portion or front wheel hub.

[0029] The handle may be adjustable or foldable and may provide additional protection for the occupant's body or head, for example, when the seat is in a lowered position.

[0030] Therefore, the stroller assembly according to the present invention can be converted between the stroller mode and the trailer mode without substantially departing from the functionality provided by the stroller. Compared to conventional strollers or trailers, the stroller assembly according to the present invention can be relatively more flexible, lightweight and compact.

[0031] Figure 1A is a conceptual perspective view of the convertible stroller assembly 10 in the stroller configuration. Figure IB is a conceptual side view of the stroller assembly 10 of Figure 1A. Figure 1C is a front side view of the stroller assembly 10 of FIG. 1A . Figure 1D is a top view of the stroller assembly 10 of FIG. 1A .

[0032] The convertible stroller assembly 10 is capable of being configured in a stroller configuration (shown in Figures 1A-1D) and a trailer configuration ( Figures 2A to 2D The assembly 10 includes a stroller frame 12 including a pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14.

[0033] The stroller frame 12 can be formed from one or more materials, such as metal, alloy, plastic, carbon fiber, composite materials, or combinations thereof. The wheel hub 14 can be formed from one or more materials, such as metal, alloy, plastic, carbon fiber, composite materials, or combinations thereof. In some embodiments, the seat frame 20 is slidably coupled to the stroller frame 12 and is slidable relative to a pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14 between a first position and a second position lower than the first position.

[0041] The assembly 10 is capable of being in (i) a stroller configuration in which the front wheels 18 are coupled to the stroller frame 12 and the seat frame 20 is in a first position (shown in Figures 1A-1D) and (ii) a second position in which the front wheels 18 are not present and the seat frame 12 is in a lower center of gravity than the first position (shown in Figures 1A-1D). Figures 2A to 2D 10 and any occupants. In the stroller configuration, the user can walk, jog, or run behind the stroller assembly 10 to propel the stroller assembly 10 and any occupants forward. In the trailer configuration, the user can attach the stroller (now used as a trailer) to the back of a bicycle (or other vehicle) and can pull the trailer and any occupants forward behind the bicycle (or other vehicle).

[0042] Figure 2A is a conceptual perspective view of the convertible stroller assembly 10 of FIG. 1A in a trailer configuration 10a. Figure 2B yes Figure 2A A conceptual side view of a stroller assembly 10a is shown. Figure 2C yes Figure 2A FIG. 1 is a front side view of the stroller assembly 10 a. Figure 2D yes Figure 2A FIG. 1 is a top view of the stroller assembly 10 a.

[0043] Starting with the configuration 10 shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the seat frame 20 can be lowered to the second position (for example, after being removed from the stroller frame 12), and the front wheels 18 removed from the assembly stroller frame 12 to produce configuration 10a. The removal of the front wheels 18 and the lowering of the seat frame 20 can be performed in any order. In some embodiments, the seat frame 20 is not removed from the stroller frame 12 and remains attached to the stroller frame 12 during movement or lowering. For example, the seat frame 20 can slide along the stroller frame 12. Vice versa, Figures 2A to 2D , the seat frame 20 can be raised to a first position and the front wheels 18 coupled to the stroller frame 12 to produce the configuration 10a. The coupling of the front wheels 18 and the raising of the seat frame 20 can be performed in any order and with or without removing the seat frame 20 from the stroller frame 12.

[0044] The stroller frame 12 can include several frame portions or subassemblies. For example, the stroller frame 12 can include a rear frame assembly 22 coupled to a pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14. In some embodiments, the plurality of wheels 16 includes at least two rear wheels coupled to the rear frame assembly 22. In some embodiments, the plurality of wheels 16 includes no more than two rear wheels coupled to the rear frame assembly 22. In some embodiments, the plurality of wheels 16 includes exactly two rear wheels (and a single front wheel 18) coupled to the rear frame assembly 22.

[0045] The seat frame 20 can be slidably coupled to the rear frame assembly 22, e.g., slidable along the rear frame assembly 22 toward and away from the pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14 (in the directions of the double-headed dashed arrows shown in FIG. 1B ). For example, the rear frame assembly 22 can define parallel rails or slots, and portions of the seat frame 20 can be engaged in the rails or slots to slide along the rails or slots.

[0046] In an embodiment, the rear frame assembly 22 includes a rear axle 24 coupled between a pair of opposing rear bars 26. At least two rear wheels can be coupled to the rear axle 24. Each of the pair of opposing rear bars 26 can define a respective hub end 28 coupled to a respective hub in the pair of laterally opposing hubs 14 and a respective axle end 30 coupled to the rear axle 24. As seen in Figures 1A and 1B, each of the opposing rear bars 26 can be angled downward from a respective hub in the pair of laterally opposing hubs 14 to the rear axle 24.

[0047] The opposing rear bars 26 can ultimately support and bear against the seat frame 20 and any occupant. In some embodiments, each rear bar in the pair of opposing rear bars 26 defines a corresponding channel. The seat frame 20 can be slidably secured between and within the corresponding channels of the pair of opposing rear bars.

[0048] In an embodiment, the stroller frame 12 includes an upper frame assembly 32 coupled to the pair of laterally opposing wheel hubs 14. For example, the upper frame assembly 32 can extend upward and / or rearward from the laterally opposing wheel hubs 14. For example, a user can hold or grasp a portion of the upper frame assembly 32 to guide the movement of the stroller assembly 10 in the stroller mode. The upper frame assembly 32 can also act as a truss to redistribute load or weight and further support the lower frame assembly 22 and the stroller frame 12 as a whole.

[0049] In some embodiments, the upper frame assembly 32 includes a crossbar 34 coupled between a pair of opposing upper bars 36. In some such embodiments, each of the pair of opposing upper bars 36 defines a respective hub end 38 coupled to a respective one of the pair of laterally opposing hubs and a respective crossbar end 40 coupled to the crossbar 34. In some embodiments, each of the opposing upper bars angles upward from a respective one of the pair of laterally opposing hubs 14 to the crossbar 34. The crossbar 34 can provide lateral support and stability to the upper assembly 32 and the stroller frame 12 as a whole.

[0050] The crossbar 34 may also be used to couple or secure other components. For example, the assembly 10 may include a handle 42 coupled to the upper frame assembly 32. The handle 42 may include a u-shaped bar rotatably coupled to the crossbar 34.

[0051] In some embodiments, the assembly 10 further includes a fold lock assembly 44 coupled to the upper frame assembly 32. The fold lock assembly 44 prevents the convertible stroller assembly 10 from folding about the pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14. The fold lock assembly 44 may include a button 46 configured to temporarily overcome resistance to folding. For example, a cable, chain, pin, or some other mechanism that prevents one or more portions of the stroller frame 12 from folding about the wheel hubs 14 may ultimately be mechanically coupled to the button 46, and pressing the button 46 may disengage the cable or pin, allowing folding to proceed.

[0052] In some embodiments, the assembly 10 further includes a canopy bar 48 secured to the stroller frame 12 or the seat frame 20. In some embodiments, the canopy bar 48 is secured to the seat frame 20 so that the canopy bar 48 slides with the seat frame. In some embodiments, the canopy bar 48 can be secured to both the stroller frame 12 and the seat frame 20. For example, as the seat frame 20 moves, a portion or end of the canopy bar 48 can move through a tube, channel, or slot extending through or along a portion of the stroller frame 12 (e.g., within or along the rear bar 26). In some embodiments, the canopy bar 48 is secured to the seat frame 20 and is configured to move relative to the stroller frame 12 along with the seat frame 20.

[0053] The canopy bar 48 defines a U-shaped body that extends upwardly from the stroller frame 12 or from the seat frame 20 .

[0054] The canopy bar 48 can be rotatably or fixedly mounted relative to the wheel hub 14. For example, the canopy bar 48 may or may not be rotatable relative to the wheel hub 14. In some embodiments, the canopy bar 48 can rotate about the wheel hub 14 only when the seat frame 20 is raised, and can be locked or unable to rotate about the wheel hub 14 when the seat frame 20 is lowered. For example, when the seat frame 20 is lowered, a portion of the canopy bar 48 can be pulled into another portion of the stroller frame 12, such as the rear bar 26, which can prevent rotational movement of the remainder of the canopy bar 48.

[0055] Although not shown in Figures 1A to 2D, it should be understood that fabric or lining can be secured to the canopy rods 48 to form the canopy. The fabric or lining may be intended to be removably coupled by the user, or it may not be intended to be removable by the user. Thus, the fabric or lining can be removably or permanently secured to the canopy rods 48.

[0056] In some embodiments, the stroller frame 12 includes a front frame assembly 52 coupled to the pair of laterally opposed wheel hubs 14. The front frame assembly 52 can facilitate distributing the load or weight of the occupant along the stroller frame 12. The front frame assembly 52 can also facilitate folding the assembly 10, such as for storage or transport. For example, one or both of the front frame assembly 52 and the rear frame assembly 32 can be configured to rotate toward each other about the wheel hubs 14 to ultimately fold the stroller assembly 10, and rotate away from each other to unfold the stroller assembly.

[0057] One or more components may be coupled to the front frame assembly 52. For example, the front wheel 18 may be removably coupled to the front frame assembly 52. The front frame assembly 52 may further include a fork 54 to which the front wheel 18 may be removably coupled. For example, the fork 54 may define an opening through which a front axle may be coupled, wherein the front wheel 18 is rotatably coupled about the front axle. The front axle (or ultimately the wheel 18) may be removed from the fork 54 by a user.

[0058] In some embodiments, the front frame assembly 52 further includes a front hub 56. The fork 54 can be coupled to the front hub 56. The front hub 56 can define a coupling slot 58, and the coupling slot 58 can be configured to receive a coupling rod 60 ( Figures 2A to 2D ). The hitch bar 60 can extend from a bicycle or another vehicle and thus can be used to secure the stroller assembly 10 in the trailer configuration 10a to the bicycle or vehicle.

[0059] In some embodiments, the front frame assembly 52 further includes a footrest bar 62. In some such embodiments, the footrest bar 62 can be coupled to the front hub 56, such as rotatably coupled to the front hub 56. Thus, an occupant in the seat frame 20 can rest their feet on the footrest bar 62.

[0060] Thus, the stroller assembly according to the present invention is convertible between a stroller mode or configuration and a trailer mode or configuration.

[0061] Figure 3 FIG1 is a conceptual perspective view of a stroller 100 including the convertible stroller assembly 10 of FIG1A in a stroller configuration.
