METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION OF HERBAL EXTRACTS

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for preparing pharmaceutical compositions and other herbal products derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs, including astragali root (Milkvetch - Huang Qi), Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuan Xiong), Angelicae sinensis root (Chinese angelica - Dan Gui), and polygalae root (Thinleaf milkwort- Yuan Zhi). The method involves a single extraction of the TCM herbs by heating in a hydro-alcoholic solvent, where the alcohol may be ethanol. Figure 2 provides a summary description of an embodiment of the method. The invention also relates to products of the method of the invention, and their use in the treatment of stroke and various neurological disorders.
