Description

Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a battery shell structure that holds a vehicle battery. General state of the art

[0002] A battery is installed in a vehicle to supply electrical energy to a starter when the engine is started and to supply electrical energy to electrical components. To install such a battery in a vehicle, the battery is placed on the battery tray, which is attached to the side of the vehicle body; the corresponding pointed hook parts of J-shaped bolts are hooked onto the left and right side parts of the battery tray; a battery strap is placed over the top of the battery; nuts are tightened together with the battery strap onto threaded parts of the J-shaped bolts (the threaded parts are positioned in the upper direction relative to the vehicle's up and down direction), thereby securing the battery to the battery tray (see patent literature 1 and 2).

[0003] Furthermore, many conventional battery tray structures are constructed using sheet metal materials because sheet metal materials exhibit higher structural strength. However, for holding smaller batteries, such as those in light vehicles, the battery trays are made of resin materials to reduce the vehicle's weight and lower costs (see patent literature 3). In these situations, J-shaped bolts are attached to hook parts provided on the left and right lateral parts of the resin-based battery tray. Brief description of the invention Problems to be solved by the invention

[0004] In compact vehicles equipped with a larger and therefore heavier battery, a significant degree of inertia is present when the vehicle is in motion. This inertia acts on the battery tray's mounting components via the large battery. Therefore, if the mounting is achieved by hooking pointed J-shaped bolts onto the left and right sides of the resin-based battery tray, as in lighter vehicles, there is a possibility that these hooked parts of the resin-based battery tray may deform. Consequently, the conventional battery shell structure described above has a problem in that the tightened nuts may have a reduced tightening torque due to the deformation of the hooked parts of the resin-based battery shell, or that the hooked parts of the resin-based battery shell may be damaged by breakage.

[0005] In view of the circumstances described above, it is an object of the present invention to provide a battery shell structure capable of stably holding a battery by ensuring a necessary degree of strength in the engagement parts, which are to be brought into engagement with J-shaped fastening bolts, by using a sheet metal bracket, while reducing the weight by using a resin-based battery shell. Means of solving the problems

[0006] To solve the problems of the conventional example described above, the present invention provides a battery tray structure in which a battery is placed on an upper surface of a resin-based battery tray and is attached to a side of a vehicle body, and in which the battery is secured by being inserted and held between a battery strap and the battery tray, by arranging the battery strap to support an upper surface of the battery so that it spans the battery, and by fastening J-shaped fastening bolts positioned over the battery together with the battery strap, wherein the battery tray structure is characterized in that it comprises: a sheet metal bracket configured to have a U-shaped cross-section with an opening at an upper surface, and provided to extend from a lower surface to each of the lateral surfaces of the battery tray, wherein in the sheet metal bracket, in two lateral surfaces thereof, engagement parts are formed which are to be brought into engagement with the fastening bolts, and, when the battery is inserted and held between the battery strap and the battery tray, a lower part of each of the fastening bolts engages with a corresponding engagement part of the sheet metal bracket.

[0007] Furthermore, according to the present invention, several first ribs are formed on the lower surface of the battery shell such that, starting from positions near two edges of an attachment point of the adjacent sheet metal holder, they project downwards and extend in directions which intersect the sheet metal holder.

[0008] Furthermore, according to the present invention, the first ribs are connected to a vehicle body mounting part of the battery tray.

[0009] In addition, the first ribs according to the present invention are linearly connected to each other at the mounting point of the sheet metal bracket, while those first ribs that are positioned in a connected part where the connection is realized are arranged so that they protrude less in height.

[0010] Furthermore, according to the present invention, a second rib on the battery shell, at the mounting point of the sheet metal bracket, is designed such that it extends in a direction perpendicular to the first ribs which are positioned in the connected part and extends along a longitudinal direction of the sheet metal bracket in such a way that two ends of it abut the lateral surfaces of the sheet metal bracket. Advantageous effects of the invention

[0011] As explained above, in the battery tray structure according to the present invention, a battery is placed on an upper surface of a resin-based battery tray and attached to a side of the vehicle body, and furthermore, the battery is secured by being inserted and held between a battery strap and the battery tray, by arranging the battery strap to support a top surface of the battery so that it spans the battery, and by fastening J-shaped fastening bolts positioned over the battery together with the battery strap. The battery tray structure comprises a sheet metal bracket configured as having a U-shaped cross-section with an opening at its upper end. This bracket extends from a lower surface to each of the lateral surfaces of the battery tray. Two lateral surfaces of the sheet metal bracket incorporate engagement elements that engage with the fastening bolts. When the battery is inserted and held between the battery strap and the battery tray, a lower portion of each fastening bolt engages with a corresponding engagement element of the sheet metal bracket. Consequently, in the battery tray structure according to the present invention, the battery tray is constructed using a resin material, while only the sheet metal bracket, which serves as a battery fastening element, is constructed using a metal material. It is therefore possible to reduce the weight of the entire battery casing and lower the cost of the components. Furthermore, in the battery casing structure according to the present invention, because the sheet metal bracket ensures sufficient strength in the engagement parts that engage with the fastening bolts, these engagement parts are free from deformation. Consequently, it is possible to prevent the nuts and similar components from experiencing reduced tightening torque due to deformation of the engagement parts, and to prevent the engagement parts from being damaged by breakage. It is therefore possible to realize a structure capable of stably holding the battery.

[0012] Furthermore, according to the present invention, several first ribs are formed on the lower surface of the battery shell such that, starting from positions near two edges of an attachment point of the adjacent sheet metal bracket, they project downwards and extend in directions that intersect the sheet metal bracket. Consequently, the position of the sheet metal bracket relative to the battery shell can be easily determined. It is therefore possible to improve the workability and increase the rigidity of the battery shell.

[0013] Furthermore, according to the present invention, the first ribs are connected to a vehicle body mounting part of the battery tray. Consequently, it is possible to improve the stiffness of that part of the battery tray which is positioned in the area between vehicle body mounting parts.

[0014] Furthermore, according to the present invention, the first ribs are linearly connected to one another at the mounting point of the sheet metal bracket, whereas those first ribs positioned in a connected section where the connection is realized are arranged such that they project less vertically. Consequently, it is possible to arrange the sheet metal bracket so that it is positioned on the battery tray without any problems, and it is also possible to improve the rigidity of the battery tray at the mounting point of the sheet metal bracket.

[0015] Furthermore, according to the present invention, a second rib on the battery tray, at the attachment point of the sheet metal bracket, is designed such that it extends in a direction perpendicular to the first ribs positioned in the connected part and extends along a longitudinal direction of the sheet metal bracket such that two ends of it abut the lateral surfaces of the sheet metal bracket. Consequently, it is possible to increase the rigidity of the battery tray at the attachment point of the sheet metal bracket. Moreover, it is possible to regulate movement of the sheet metal bracket, since the second rib abuts corner sections of the sheet metal bracket. It is therefore possible to reliably hold the battery in place on the battery tray. Manner of implementation of the invention

[0016] The present invention is explained in detail below with reference to an embodiment illustrated in the drawings.

[0017] Fig. Figures 1 to 7 are drawings illustrating a battery casing structure according to one embodiment of the present invention. Fig. In numbers 1 to 6, the arrow Fr indicates the direction towards the front of the vehicle.

[0018] A battery casing structure according to the embodiment of the present invention primarily comprises, as shown in Fig. Figures 1 to 7 show a battery tray 2, which holds and secures a battery 1 in a detachably attached manner; a battery strap 3; fastening bolts 4, each J-shaped; and a sheet metal bracket 5. The battery 1 is installed in an engine compartment E, which is provided in the front section of a vehicle, in a lateral position on one side, relative to the width of the vehicle. Thus, in the present embodiment, the battery tray 2 is attached to a side element (on the vehicle body side) 8, which is positioned on the left side of the vehicle, via a battery holder 6, which is positioned on the front of the vehicle, and an engine mount / battery holder 7, which is positioned on the rear of the vehicle. In other words, the battery tray 2 is designed such that vehicle body mounting parts 2a, provided at two locations on the left and right sides of the front of the vehicle, are attached to the upper part of the battery holder 6 by bolts and nuts or the like, while a vehicle body mounting part 2b, provided at one location on the rear of the vehicle, is attached to the upper part of the engine mount / battery holder 7 by a bolt and nut or the like. Furthermore, an outer lateral part of the battery holder 6 is welded to the inner lateral surface of an intermediate section, relative to the front and rear directions, of the side element 8. Additionally, an outer lateral part of the engine mount / battery holder 7 is attached to the inner lateral surface of the intermediate section, relative to the front and rear directions, of the side element 8 by a bolt and nut.In this situation, the side element 8 forms a vehicle body frame that is provided on both the left and right sides, relative to the width of the vehicle. The side element 8 extends along the front and rear of the vehicle.

[0019] As in Fig. As shown in Figures 1 to 6, the battery tray 2 according to the present embodiment is a resin-based battery tray formed in one piece using a resin material. Furthermore, the battery tray 2 comprises: an upper bottom surface 21 having a shape and size that allows the substantially parallelepiped battery 1 to be placed on it, appearing rectangular in plan view and attached to the battery holder 6 and the motor mount / battery holder 7; and vertical wall surfaces (side surfaces) 22 that surround the perimeter of the upper bottom surface 21 and have a predetermined height.Of the vertical wall surfaces 22, the intermediate section, with respect to the front and rear direction of the vehicle, is a vertical wall surface 22a, which is positioned on the inside (the side of the engine compartment E) of the vehicle, while extending in the front and rear direction of the vehicle, such that it is arranged, due to positioning arrangements with other peripheral components, such that it is higher than the height of the other vertical wall surfaces 22. The intermediate section is provided with an insertion opening 23 into which the lower end of one of the fastening bolts 4 is inserted such that the fastening bolt 4 and the sheet metal bracket 5 are able to engage with each other.

[0020] As in Fig. As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the battery strap 3, according to the present embodiment, is formed by bending circumferential sections and an intermediate section, with respect to the longitudinal direction, of a metal plate element upwards. The battery strap 3 is designed to have a band-like shape such that the parts positioned on the left and right sides each form a wide flat surface 31. The battery strap 3 is designed to support the top of the battery 1 by being placed on its upper side, spanning it along the width of the vehicle. Consequently, the battery strap 3 is designed to be of such a length that its two ends, positioned on the left and right sides, project outwards from the top of the battery 1 when the battery strap 3 is placed on its upper side.Furthermore, each of the wide, flat surfaces 31 of the battery band 3, located on the left and right sides, has an insertion hole 32 through which an upper part of another of the fastening bolts 4 is inserted. The insertion holes 32 are positioned so as not to interfere with the top of the battery 1.

[0021] Furthermore, as in Fig. Figures 1 to 3 show that, according to the present embodiment, the fastening bolts 4 are each a J-shaped long bolt positioned along the upward and downward direction of the vehicle when the battery 1 is secured. Each fastening bolt 4 is arranged to be longer than the distance in the upward and downward direction between the engagement parts (explained later) of the sheet metal bracket 5, which is provided for the battery tray 2, and the top of the battery 1, which is placed on the battery tray 2, such that an upper part of each fastening bolt 4 is positioned above the top of the battery 1. Furthermore, a threaded section 41 is formed in the upper part of each fastening bolt 4, which can be screwed into a nut 9.Furthermore, a hook part 42 is formed in a lower part of each of the fastening bolts 4, wherein the hook part 42 is formed by bending the lower end of each fastening bolt 4 diagonally upwards at an angle that is slightly more acute than a right angle.

[0022] Furthermore, as in Fig. Figures 1 to 4 and 7 show that the sheet metal bracket 5, according to the present embodiment, is formed by bending the two ends of a metal plate element, having a predetermined length and width, in the same direction such that it has a U-shaped cross-section with an opening at the top. The sheet metal bracket 5 is a rigid element that extends along the width of the vehicle from the lower floor surface 24 to each of the vertical wall surfaces 22 of the battery tray 2 when the battery 1 is installed. Therefore, the sheet metal bracket 5 comprises: a main bracket body 51, which has a linear shape and a length that allows it to extend across the entire width of the lower floor surface 24 of the battery tray 2; and support elements 52, each extending upright to the left and right of one of the other two ends of the main bracket body 51.An engagement hole (the engagement part) 53, with which the hook part 42 of a corresponding fastening bolt 4 is engaged by insertion and hooking, is formed in an upper part of each of the support parts 52. Furthermore, to avoid any obstruction that may occur during engagement with the hook parts 42 of the fastening bolts 4, the engagement holes 53 are positioned at a height above the outer vertical wall surface 22, which extends in the front and rear directions of the vehicle, while the sheet metal bracket 5 is installed with the battery tray 2. Additionally, flanges 54 are formed on the front and rear edge sections of the sheet metal bracket 5, which are bent towards the rear surface such that the rigidity of the sheet metal bracket 5 is increased by the flanges 54.

[0023] Furthermore, as in Fig. 3 and Fig. As shown in Figure 5, several first ribs 25 are formed on the lower bottom surface 24 of the battery tray 2 according to the present embodiment such that, starting from positions near both the front and rear edges of an attachment point 24a of the adjacent sheet metal bracket 5, they project downwards with a predetermined height and extend in directions that intersect the main body 51 of the sheet metal bracket 5 (towards the front and rear of the vehicle). Each of the first ribs 25 is formed as a plate-like piece having a predetermined thickness. The first ribs 25 are provided at predetermined intervals on the battery tray 2 in the lateral direction of the vehicle, while they extend linearly along the battery tray 2 in the front and rear directions of the vehicle.By providing the first ribs 25 in this manner, the position of the sheet metal bracket 5, relative to the battery tray 2, can be easily determined, and it is possible to ensure high rigidity of the entire battery tray 2, which is made of resin, in conjunction with the sheet metal bracket 5, which is provided along the width direction of the vehicle. Furthermore, as in . Fig. Figures 3 to 6 show a pair of engaging claws 26 located near the front and rear edges of the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5, on both the left and right sides of the lower base surface 24 of the battery tray 2. These claws project towards the underside of the vehicle and are positioned at a distance that allows them to engage with the front and rear edge sections of the sheet metal bracket 5. The engaging claws 26 are designed to determine the position of the sheet metal bracket 5 in the front and rear directions of the vehicle and to regulate movement of the sheet metal bracket 5.

[0024] Furthermore, in the battery shell structure according to the present embodiment, the several first ribs 25, as in Fig. 3 and Fig. Figure 5 shows the first ribs 25 on the front of the vehicle, which are positioned on the outside with respect to the width of the vehicle, connected to the vehicle body mounting parts 2a, which are provided on the front of the vehicle on the battery tray 2. This arrangement further increases the stiffness of that part of the battery tray 2 which is positioned in the area between the vehicle body mounting parts 2a on the lower floor surface 24.

[0025] Furthermore, as in Fig. 3 and Fig. Figure 5 shows that the several first ribs 25, which are provided on the lower bottom surface 24 of the battery tray 2, are linearly connected to each other at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5. Furthermore, first connected ribs 25a, which are positioned in a connected section where the connection is made, are arranged such that they project less vertically from the lower bottom surface 24 than the first ribs 25 provided on the front and rear of the vehicle. In other words, the first connected ribs 25a are designed to have a projection height that is reduced according to the thickness of the sheet metal bracket 5 and the height of the flanges 54, such that a recess is formed along the length in the front and rear directions of the vehicle, corresponding to the front-to-rear width of the sheet metal bracket 5.With this arrangement, the sheet metal bracket 5 is reliably positioned at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5 on the battery tray 2 in order to improve the rigidity of the battery tray 2 at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5.

[0026] In addition, as in Fig. Figure 5 shows a second rib 27 on the battery tray 2, at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5, such that it extends in the direction perpendicular to the first connected ribs 25a and along the longitudinal direction of the sheet metal bracket 5. The second rib 27 is designed as a plate-like piece that has essentially the same height as those of the first connected ribs 25a and a predetermined thickness. The second rib 27 is located in a central part of the first connected ribs 25a, with respect to the front and rear directions of the vehicle. The second rib 27 is designed to extend across the entire width of the battery tray 2 in the lateral direction of the vehicle such that its two ends 27a abut the lateral surfaces of the support elements 52 of the sheet metal bracket 5, which is attached at the mounting point 24a, on the left and right sides. This arrangement increases the rigidity of the battery tray 2 at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5. Furthermore, since the two ends 27a of the second rib 27 are positioned between the main bracket body 51 and the support elements 52 of the sheet metal bracket 5, resting against the corner sections on the left and right, it is possible to regulate movement of the sheet metal bracket 5, such as parallel movement in the lateral direction of the vehicle and rotational movement about an axis extending in the front and rear directions of the vehicle. As a result, it is possible to securely hold the battery 1 on the upper base surface 21 of the battery tray 2.

[0027] An example of a workflow for installing the battery 1 into an engine compartment E using the battery shell structure according to the embodiment of the present invention will now be explained.

[0028] First, the sheet metal bracket 5 is positioned from the underside of the vehicle over the first ribs 25, the first connected ribs 25a, and the engaging claws 26 at the mounting point 24a of the sheet metal bracket 5 on the battery tray 2. The positions of the main bracket body 51 and the support elements 53 are determined by the contact of the lower floor surface 24, the vertical wall surfaces 22, and the like, such that the sheet metal bracket 5 is attached to the battery tray 2. Subsequently, the battery tray 2 is attached to the side element 8 over the battery holder 6 and the engine mount / battery holder 7, such that the battery 1 is positioned on the upper floor surface 21 of the battery tray 2.

[0029] In this situation, the fastening bolts 4 are held downwards by their hook parts 42. For the fastening bolt 4 positioned on the outside of the vehicle, relative to the battery 1, the hook part 42 is inserted directly into the engagement hole 53 of the sheet metal bracket 5. For the fastening bolt 4 positioned on the inside of the vehicle, relative to the battery 1, the fastening bolt 4 is engaged by inserting the hook part 42 into the engagement hole 53 of the sheet metal bracket 5 via the insertion opening 23 formed in the vertical wall surface 22a of the battery tray 2, and pulling the fastening bolt 4 towards the top of the vehicle, such that the hook part 42 is hooked. The battery strap 3 is then positioned on top of the battery 1, which is placed on the upper base surface 21 of the battery tray 2, such that the battery strap 3 spans the battery 1 along the width of the vehicle. The threaded parts 41 of the fastening bolts 4 are inserted into the insertion holes 32 provided at the two ends on the left and right of the battery strap 3, and a nut 9 is screwed onto each of the threaded parts 41 that project from the ends of the battery strap 3 towards the top of the vehicle to secure the battery 1 together with the battery strap 3. As a result, the battery 1 is secured by being inserted and held between the battery strap 3 and the battery tray 2 and is installed in the engine compartment E. The work is thus completed (see ). Fig. 2).

[0030] As explained above, in the battery tray structure according to the embodiment of the present invention, while the battery tray 2, on which the battery 1 is placed, is the resin-based battery tray made of a resin material, the engagement parts that engage with the hook parts 42 of the fastening bolts 4, which are used to fasten the battery 1 by inserting and holding the battery 1 between the battery strap 3 and the battery tray, are designed as the sheet metal bracket 5, which has the U-shaped cross-section, such that it extends from the lower bottom surface 24 to each of the vertical wall surfaces 22 at the lateral positions of the battery tray 2 and has the engagement holes 53 for the fastening bolts 4, which are formed in the support parts 52, which are positioned on both sides of the same.Consequently, it is possible to reduce the weight of the battery tray 2 while ensuring sufficient strength in the engagement parts that engage with the hook parts 42 of the fastening bolts 4. Furthermore, when the battery tray structure is used according to the present embodiment, the sheet metal bracket 5, which is designed as the engagement parts that engage with the hook parts 42 of the fastening bolts 4, is free from deformation or breakage. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the nuts 9 from experiencing a reduction in their tightening capacity due to deformation in the engagement parts. It is thus possible to hold the battery 1 securely.

[0031] The exemplary embodiment of the present invention has thus been explained; however, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described above. It is possible to make various types of modifications and alterations to the present invention based on its technical concepts.
