Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a connection for connecting a corrugated tube and a box-shaped protector to each other and to a cable harness.
[0002] From US patent application 2015 / 0369406 A1, a connection for joining a corrugated tube to a protector is known. The connection comprises an engagement section capable of engaging with the corrugated tube, an attachment section capable of being attached to the protector, and a projection piece that extends along the corrugated tube.
[0003] A conventional method for routing an electrical cable bundle in, for example, an automobile body, is known in which the electrical cable bundle is contained within a corrugated conduit, and the corrugated conduit is fixed to the box-shaped protector. Corrugated conduits generally have large-diameter sections and small-diameter sections arranged alternately along the axial line. When fixing such a corrugated conduit to a protector, a connector can be used to join the corrugated conduit to the protector.
[0004] For example, a conventional fitting has a tubular shape so that it can be attached to a corrugated tube, surrounding the outer surfaces of the tube. The inner circumferential surface of this fitting is ribbed to engage with projections and recesses formed by large-diameter and small-diameter sections of the corrugated tube. This fitting is attached to a protector in such a way that the fitting engages with the corrugated tube via these ribs. As a result, the corrugated tube is fixed to the protector via the fitting.
[0005] For details of the above connection-attached electrical cable, reference is made to JP 2004-006210 A and the Japanese Utility Model Registration No. JP 2 600 985 Y2.
[0006] A corrugated tube and a protector, fixed to each other via a connection as described above, are designed to prevent unintentional separation, positional deviation, etc. However, if, for example, the corrugated tube is subjected to excessive external force, the engagement between the connection and the corrugated tube may become unreliable, due to, for example, a reduction in the diameter of the corrugated tube. It is desirable to minimize the possibility of such engagement problems, as these can lead to positional deviation or separation between the corrugated tube and the protector.
[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide a connection capable of suitably joining a corrugated tube and a protector, as well as a cable harness equipped with a corrugated tube and a protector connected to each other by such a connection. This object is achieved according to the invention by a connection having the features of independent claim 1 and by a cable harness having the features of independent claim 4. Preferred embodiments are set forth in the dependent claims.
[0008] Examples of implementation can be achieved by the following points [1] to [5]: [1] A connection for joining a corrugated tube to a box-shaped protector, the connection comprising: an intervention section that is able to engage with the corrugated pipe; an attachment section capable of being attached to the protector; and a protruding piece that extends along the well pipe. [2] The connection according to point [1], wherein the connection has a ring shape that allows the corrugated pipe to be inserted into the connection; The engagement section is located on an inner surface of the connection; The attachment section is provided on an outer surface of the connection to be attached to the protector in order to create a condition by connecting an opening section of the connection and an inner space of the protector; and The protruding piece extends along the outer surfaces of the corrugated pipe from a circumferential area of the opening section of the connection. [3] The connection according to point [1] or to point [2], wherein The protruding piece has a projecting extension in one direction, separate from the corrugated pipe. [4] A wiring harness that includes: a bundle of electrical cables; a corrugated pipe that holds the bundle of electrical cables; a box-shaped protector to fix the corrugated tube; and a connector to join the corrugated tube and the protector together, The connection comprises an engagement section capable of engaging with the corrugated tube, an attachment section capable of attaching to the protector, and a projection piece that extends along the corrugated tube. [5] The wiring harness according to point [4], wherein The corrugated pipe and the protruding piece are wrapped together with a fixing tape.
[0009] According to a first aspect of the invention, relating to point [1], the connection with the corrugated tube is engaged by the engagement section. If, for example, the corrugated tube and the projecting piece that extends along the corrugated tube are wrapped together with a fastening tape, the connection and the corrugated tube can be joined more firmly than in a case where the connection and the corrugated tube are engaged only by the engagement section. As a result, even if an excessively strong external force acts on the corrugated tube, a condition in which the connection and the corrugated tube are engaged can be better maintained. The projecting piece and the corrugated tube can be fixed together by a mechanical method using a clip or the like, or with an adhesive or the like. The method for fixing the protruding piece and the corrugated tube is not limited to simply wrapping a fastening tape around both. The protruding piece and the corrugated tube can be fixed together by a mechanical method using a clip or the like, or with an adhesive or the like.
[0010] As such, the connection which has this configuration can connect the well tube and the protector more suitablely than conventional connections.
[0011] Incidentally, it is possible to use the connector in such a way that a number of connection types, differing in dimensions or internal shape, can be provided in advance, and a suitable connection can be selected according to the shapes, etc., of the corrugated conduit and the protector. Using this connector in this way makes it possible to accommodate thickness differences between corrugated conduits when fixing different conduits that vary in thickness. Thus, using a connector with this configuration eliminates the need to provide protectors for conduits of varying thicknesses, thereby reducing the manufacturing costs of the protectors (and consequently, the manufacturing costs of a cable harness).
[0012] According to the second aspect of the invention relating to point [2], an inner surface of the connection with the engagement section is provided, the attachment section is provided on an outer surface of the connection, and the projection section extends around a circumferential circumference of the opening section of the connection. With these features, the connection that can be used as described in the above statements refers to the connection having the configurations of point [1].
[0013] According to the third aspect of the invention, referring to point [3], the protruding piece and the corrugated tube can be more securely fixed together by using the projection that extends from the protruding piece. Where a fastening band is wrapped around the protruding piece and the corrugated tube, a strong fixation is achieved by hooking the fastening band onto the protruding piece.
[0014] According to a fourth aspect of the invention, relating to point [4], the connection with the corrugated tube is engaged by the engagement section. If, for example, the corrugated tube and the protruding piece that projects along the corrugated tube are wrapped together with the fastening tape, the connection and the corrugated tube can be more strongly connected to each other than in a case where the connection and the corrugated tube are engaged only by the engagement section. As a result, even if an excessively strong external force acts on the corrugated tube, a state in which the connection and the corrugated tube are engaged can be maintained more appropriately. Thus, the cable harness having this configuration can maintain a state in which the corrugated tube and the protector are appropriately connected to each other.
[0015] According to a fifth aspect of the invention, relating to point [5], the corrugated tube and the protruding piece of the connector are wrapped together with a fastening band. As a result, the connector and the corrugated tube can be more securely joined to each other than in a case where the connector and the corrugated tube engage with each other only through the engagement section. As a result, even if an excessively strong external force acts on the corrugated tube during use of the wiring harness, a state in which the connector and the corrugated tube are engaged with each other can be adequately maintained.
[0016] The invention can provide a connection capable of suitably connecting a corrugated tube and a protector, as well as a cable harness equipped with a corrugated tube and a protector connected to each other by such a connection.
[0017] The invention is briefly described above. The details of the invention will become clearer when the description of the exemplary embodiments described below is read, together with reference to the accompanying drawings. [0018] A connection 20 and a cable harness 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention are described below with reference to the drawings.
[0019] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 1, the cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment is equipped with a protector 10, which accommodates an electrical cable bundle 2, consisting of a plurality of electrical cables 2a, and a connection 20 provided at an end section of the protector 10. The connection 20 is also referred to as a protector stopper. The protector 10 is an element for routing the electrical cable bundle 2 along a predetermined route within its interior and fixes the electrical cable bundle 2 to a mounting target body, such as a vehicle body. The connection 20 is an element for fixing a corrugated tube 30, which accommodates the electrical cable bundle 2 and can be bent into a free shape, to the end section of the protector 10.
[0020] As in Fig. 1 and Fig. As shown in Figure 2, the protector 10 is equipped with a protector main body 11, in which an approximately C-shaped cross-sectional form extends in its longitudinal direction, and protector cover sections 12 that close an opening formed at one end of the protector main body 11 in a direction perpendicular to its longitudinal direction. The protector main body 11 and the protector cover sections 12 are, for example, made of synthetic resin. The protector cover sections 12 can be removed from the protector main body 11. A communication hole 13, which has a right-angled cross-section and through which the electrical cable bundle 2 is to be routed, is formed within the protector 10 by the protector main body 11 and the protector cover sections 12. The protector 10 has a predefined three-dimensional shape suitable for an arrangement through which the electrical cable bundle 2 is to be routed.
[0021] The communication hole 13, formed within the protector, is, as necessary, separated by subdivisions 15 that are continuous in one laying direction. In this example, the communication hole 13 is divided into three sections at one end (right end in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) subdivided by the protector 10. The protector main body 11 is a modular body that has a predetermined shape. Several protector cover sections 12 are attached to the protector main body 11. The protector 10 is, at the other end (left end in Fig. 2), with a connection attachment section 14, for attaching the connection 20.
[0022] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, the connection-mounting section 14 has a base surface 14a and a pair of side surfaces 14b, which are opposite each other and connected to each other by the base surface 14a. The base surface 14a is formed with a projection 144. An outer side surface of the connection-mounting section 14 is formed with a pair of guides 141, which are L-shaped in cross-section. Sliding spaces 142 are formed within the respective guides 141, that is, in such sides that they are opposite each other. The connection 20 is attached to the connection-mounting section 14 configured in this way.
[0023] The connection 20 is equipped with a connection main body 21 and a connection cover section 23. The connection main body 21 holds the corrugated tube 30, and the connection cover section 23 prevents the corrugated tube held by the connection main body 21 from falling off. The connection main body 21 and the connection cover section 23, which are connected to each other by a thin section 24 that acts as a suspension, form a modular unit, made, for example, of synthetic resin.
[0024] The connecting main body 21 has an approximately rectangular outer shape and defines an interior space 22, which at one end (on the top side in Fig. 3) is open. Alternatively, the connection 20 can be formed by shaping the main connection body 21 and the connection cover section 23 as separate bodies, so that these can be attached to and separated from each other.
[0025] Fig. 4A is a perspective view showing a connection 20A in an open state, for a corrugated pipe that has a small diameter, and Fig. 4B is a perspective view showing connection 20B in an open state for a large-diameter corrugated pipe. Connections 20A and 20B are shown in [reference missing]. Fig. 4A and Fig. 4B, which are identical except that the corrugated pipes 30, which are to be held by them, differ in the outer diameters of the large-diameter and small-diameter sections, are assigned the same reference numerals for their identical or associated sections, and redundant descriptions are avoided. Connections 20A and 20B are generally referred to as "Connection 20", except in special cases where they are to be distinguished from one another.
[0026] As in Fig. 3, Fig. 4A and Fig. As shown in Figure 4B, the aforementioned thin section 24 is provided on one side of the opening end of the main connecting body 21, and a locking section 211 for closing and locking the connecting cover section 23 is provided on the other side of the opening end of the main connecting body 21. Several groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b are formed in the interior space 22 of the main connecting body 21, such that they are arranged in the laying direction of the corrugated pipe 30. Each of the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b consists of two main body ribs 25.
[0027] Each main body rib 25 has a semicircular curved section 261 and a pair of straight sections 262 that are continuous with the curved section 261 and are opposite each other. The inner diameter of the curved section 261 and the distance between the pair of straight sections 262 is larger than the outer diameter of the small-diameter sections 33 of the corrugated tube 30 to be held, and smaller than the outer diameter of the large-diameter sections 32 of the corrugated tube 30.
[0028] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, each main body rib 25 is approximately V-shaped in cross-section, such that it narrows towards the center of the inner space 22, and has a pair of inclined surfaces 251 and 252. The groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b are arranged at such an interval that a large-diameter section 32 of the corrugated tube 30 (that is, two upright surfaces 321 of the large-diameter section 32 are in contact with it) is accommodated between the inner inclined surfaces 251 of the inner main body ribs 25.
[0029] The inclined surfaces 251 or 252 of each main body rib 25 of the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b are in elastic line contact with the associated edge between an outer circumferential surface 322 and an erected surface 321 of the large diameter section 32. This structure suppresses movement of the corrugated tube 30 with respect to the connection 20 in the longitudinal direction of the corrugated tube 30.
[0030] Back to Fig. 3. The connecting cover section 23 is an element for covering the open end of the connecting main body 21 and is rotatably mounted by the thin section 24, which is provided between the connecting main body 21 and the connecting cover section 23. The tip of the connecting cover section 23, opposite the thin section 24, is formed with a nail 231 to be locked to the locking section 211 of the connecting main body 21 when the connecting cover section 23 is closed.
[0031] The surface of the connecting cover section 23, which is opposite the connecting main body 21, is formed with groups of cover ribs 27a and 27b, such that these face the respective groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b of the connecting main body 21. Each of the groups of cover ribs 27a and 27b has two cover ribs 27 and serves to hold the corrugated tube 30, which is placed in the connecting main body 21, so that the corrugated tube 30 does not protrude from the inner space 22.
[0032] Each cover rib 27 of the groups of cover ribs 27a and 27b is cut in an arc shape suitable for holding the outer diameters of the large-diameter sections 32 and the small-diameter sections 33 of the corrugated tube 30 by the connection 20. The section shape of each cover rib 27 is formed in the same way as that of each main body rib 25.
[0033] When the connection 20 is closed by placing the connection cover section 23 onto the connection main body 21, the groups of cover ribs 27a and 27b come approximately continuously with the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b and these come around to keep the corrugated tube 30 in cooperation.
[0034] The connecting main body 21 is provided with an end plate 29, which has an end surface that is opposite the protector 10 of the connecting main body 21. The end plate 29 is a plate element and its outer circumferential section 291 projects outwards. A cutout 42 is formed in the connecting main body 21 between the group of main body ribs 25a and 25b. The cutout 42 is occupied by the projection 144 of the connecting attachment section 14 of the protector 10. The connection 20 is positioned such that the outer circumferential section 291 of the end plate 29 passes through the sliding spaces 142 of the connecting attachment section 14, which is guided by the guides 141 (see also Fig. 5), and the projection 144 of the connection attachment section 14 is inserted into the cutout 42. As a result, the connection 20 is held securely by the connection attachment section 14.
[0035] A projecting section 28 extends from the end plate 29 of the connecting main body 21 to the side opposite the protector 10. The projecting section 28 is designed to correspond to a portion of the U-shaped curved section 261 of each main body rib 25 (in this example, half of the U-shaped curved section 261, that is, one-quarter of the circumference). The projecting section 28 has an inner circumferential surface 282 that shares the axial line with the corrugated tube 30, which is held by itself, and has the same diameter as the large-diameter sections 32 of the corrugated tube 30.
[0036] Thus, the inner circumferential surface 282 of the projection piece 28 is in contact with the outer surfaces 322 of the large-diameter sections 32 of the corrugated tube 30. There are no special restrictions on the size of the projection piece 28; for example, the projection piece 28 can correspond to the entirety of the U-shaped curved section 261 of each main body rib 25 (that is, half the circumference).
[0037] Fig. Figure 5 is a sectional view showing how the corrugated pipe 30 is held by the connection 20. As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, an adhesive tape 41 is wound together around the protruding piece 28 and the corrugated tube 30, after the corrugated tube 30 has been held by the connection 20. The protruding piece length L1 is longer than the width B of the adhesive tape 41. The tip of the outer circumferential surface of the protruding piece 28 is formed with a projection 281 that extends outwards. As a result, when wound together around the protruding piece 28 and the corrugated tube 30, the adhesive tape 41 is less inclined to fall off the protruding piece 28. Furthermore, the projection 281 prevents the adhesive tape 41 from slipping off the protruding piece 28 after it has been wound.
[0038] The electrical cable bundle 2, guided through the protector 10, is received in the inner space 31 of the corrugated tube 30. The corrugated tube 30 is made of a resin and configured such that the large-diameter sections 32, which have a large outer diameter, and the small-diameter sections 33, which have a small diameter, are arranged continuously and alternately in the longitudinal direction. Thus, each small-diameter section 33 is positioned between upright surfaces 321 of the adjacent large-diameter sections 32.
[0039] A slot 34 is formed in the corrugated tube 30 along a surface line (see Fig. 3) Where the slot 34 of the corrugated tube 30 is normally closed, when the corrugated tube is deformed so that large-diameter sections 32 and small-diameter sections 33 are enlarged in diameter, in a section that includes the slot 34, the slot 34 is open, and the electrical cable bundles 2, consisting of a plurality of electrical cables 2a, can easily be inserted into the interior space 31 through this slot. The corrugated tube 30 is set into the connection 20 so that small-diameter sections 33 correspond to the respective groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b.
[0040] Next, the manufacturing process of cable harness 1 will be described.
[0041] First, an electrical cable bundle 2, which is a bundle of a plurality of electrical cables 2a, is received in the corrugated tube 30. At this point, the electrical cable bundle 2 is received in the corrugated tube 30 such that a section of the electrical cable bundle 2, longer than or equal to the section to be received in the protector 10, plus a section protruding from the other end of the protector 10, is located outside the corrugated tube 30. If a section to be stored in the corrugated tube 30 is long, or if a component such as a connector, including terminals, etc., is attached to the end of the electrical cable 2, this section of the electrical cable bundle 2 can be inserted into the corrugated tube 30 through its slot 34 (see Fig. 3).
[0042] Then the connection 20 is attached to the end section of the corrugated tube 30. The large-diameter section 32 of the end section of the corrugated tube 30 is pressed between the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b of the connecting main body 21, so that the small-diameter sections 33 of the end section are opposite the two respective groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b. At this point, the corrugated tube 30 is pressed into the curved sections 261 of the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b.
[0043] The connecting cover section 23 is then placed onto the connecting main body 21, and the nail 231 is hooked in, thereby fixing it to the locking section 211 of the connecting main body 21. Next, an adhesive tape 41 is wrapped around both the projecting piece 28 of the connection 20 and the outer surfaces 322, in contact with the projecting piece 28 of the corrugated tube 30, thus fixing the connection 20 and the corrugated tube 30 to each other. The step of wrapping the adhesive tape 41 around the projecting piece 28 and the corrugated tube 30 can be carried out after the connection 20 has been attached to the protector 10.
[0044] Subsequently, the protector cover sections 12 of the protector 10 are opened, and the section protruding from the corrugated tube 30 of the electrical cable bundle 2 is routed along a predetermined path, and an end section of the electrical cable 2 is led out of the other end of the protector 10. Then, the connection 20, to which the corrugated tube 30 is attached, is attached to the connection mounting section 14 of the protector 10. At this point, the outer circumferential section 291 of the end plate 29 of the connection 20 is inserted from above into the sliding spaces 142 of the connection mounting section 14 of the protector 10 until the projection 144 of the connection mounting section 14 is inserted into the cutout 42 of the connection 20. Connection 20 is therefore attached to protector 10.
[0045] Finally, the protector cover sections 12 are attached to the protector main body 11 and fixed to the latter by fastening devices such as screws. At this point, the connection 20 can be prevented from falling off because a connection press section 221, opposite the connection mounting section 14 of the protector main body 11, presses the connection 20, which is attached to the connection mounting section 14, against the connection mounting section 14 of the protector cover sections 12 (see Fig. 6) Instead of screws, a locking section can be used to lock the protector cover sections 12 to the protector main body 11 as the fastening devices. As a further alternative, an element such as a strap can be used to fix the protector cover sections 12 to the protector main body 11.
[0046] As described above, since the connection 20, according to the exemplary embodiment, can engage with outer surfaces 322 of the corrugated tube 30, and the inner space 31 of the corrugated tube 30 can communicate with the communication hole 13 of the protector 10, the electrical cable bundle 2, which is partially enclosed and thus protected in the inner space 31 of the corrugated tube 30, can be guided in the protector 10. Since an adhesive tape 41 is wrapped around both sides of the corrugated tube 30 and the projecting section 28, which projects parallel to the corrugated tube 30, the connection 20 and the corrugated tube 30 can be more strongly bonded to each other than in a case where the connection 20 and the corrugated tube 30 are only engaged by the main body ribs 25. As a result, even if an excessively strong external force acts on the corrugated pipe 30, a state in which the connection 20 and the corrugated pipe 30 are engaged with each other can be appropriately maintained.
[0047] The connection 20 according to the exemplary embodiment can accommodate a plurality of types of corrugated tubes 30, which differ from one another in external dimensions or cross-sections, by providing in advance a plurality of types of connections 20, which differ from one another in the opening dimensions or opening shape of the inner space 22, and selectively using one of these, that is, attaching it to the protector 10. Thus, the connection 20 according to the exemplary embodiment can accommodate different types of electrical cables 2a, differing from one another in number or thickness, which form the electrical cable bundle 2, and different types of electrical cable bundles 2, which differ from one another in cross-sectional shape, etc.
[0048] By providing the projection piece 28, which projects parallel to outer surfaces 322 from the corrugated tube 30, the connection according to the embodiment can easily and reliably fix the corrugated tube 30 to the protector 10 by wrapping an adhesive tape 41 together onto the corrugated tube 30 and the projection piece 28.
[0049] In the connection 20 according to the exemplary embodiment, since each of the groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b for holding the corrugated tube 30 consists of two main body ribs 25, each main body rib 25 can be brought into elastic line contact with the associated edge between an outer circumferential surface 322 and upright surfaces 321 of a large-diameter section 32, by selecting a cross-section, cross-sectional dimensions, location, etc., of the main body rib 25 as suitable. Thus, the connection 20 according to the exemplary embodiment can elastically hold the corrugated tube 30 and provide a damping effect against vibrations, etc.
[0050] In the cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment, the projecting piece 28 of the connection 20 can engage with outer surfaces 322 of the corrugated tube 30, and the inner space 31 of the corrugated tube can communicate with the communication space 13 of the protector 10. Thus, the electrical cable bundle 2, which is protected by being partially enclosed in the inner space 31 of the corrugated tube 30, can be routed to the inner side of the protector 10.
[0051] The cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment can accommodate several types of corrugated tubes 30, which differ from one another in external dimensions or cross-sectional shapes, by providing in advance a plurality of connections 20, which differ from one another in the opening dimensions or opening shape of the inner space 22, and selectively using one of these, that is, attaching it to the protector 10. Thus, the cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment can accommodate different types of electrical cables 2a, differing from one another in number or thickness, which form the electrical cable bundle 2, and electrical cable bundles 2, which have different cross-sectional shapes, etc.
[0052] Furthermore, in the cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment, since the connection 20 has the projection 28, which projects parallel to the outer surfaces 322 of the corrugated tube 30, the corrugated tube 30 can be easily and reliably fixed to the protector 10 by wrapping an adhesive tape 41 together with the corrugated tube 30 and the projection 28. With this measure, positional displacement of the corrugated tube 30 in the radial direction within the interior space 22 of the connection 20 can be suppressed in the cable harness 1 according to the exemplary embodiment. Other examples of implementation
[0053] The invention is not limited to the above embodiment and various modifications, improvements, etc., can be made, if appropriate, within the scope of the invention. The materials, shapes, sets of dimensions, numbers, locations, etc., of the respective forming elements of the above embodiment are not limited to those disclosed, but can be determined in a suitable manner, as long as it can be implemented within the invention.
[0054] For example, in the embodiment shown, in connection 20, two groups of main body ribs 25a and 25b are arranged for pressing the corrugated tube 30 at predetermined intervals, such that each group consists of two main body ribs 25. Alternatively, as shown in Fig.As shown in Figure 7, only one group of main body ribs 25 can be provided. In this case, since outer side sloping surfaces 225 of the two main body ribs 25 are placed between upright surfaces 321 of large-diameter sections 32 of the corrugated tube 30, movement of the corrugated tube 30 in the cabling direction can be prevented.
[0055] In this embodiment, each main body rib 25 is shaped like a triangle with a sharp point. Alternatively, a right-angled rib without a sharp point can be used. In this case, it is desirable that the width of the rib be equal to the interval between the upright surfaces 321 of adjacent large-diameter sections 32 of the corrugated tube 30.
[0056] In the exemplary embodiment, the connection 20 has the main body of the connection 21 and the cover section 23 for covering the opening end of the main body of the connection 21. Alternatively, the connection 20 can be formed by two identical dividing elements, each of which has a semicircular opening.
[0057] In the exemplary embodiment, the end plate 29 of the connecting main body 21 has a projection 28 that extends on the side opposite the protector 10. Alternatively, a projection can be provided that extends into the connecting main body 21 on the side corresponding to the interior of the protector 10.
