Description

[0001] The invention relates to a fan assembly for a vehicle according to claim 1, as well as a motor vehicle according to claim 8 and a method according to claim 9.

[0002] The invention relates to a fan assembly for a motor vehicle, comprising: - a frame with a mounting section - a first mounting element and a second mounting element mounted on the mounting portion in the frame; and - a sealing device.

[0003] Fan assemblies are located in vehicles, particularly motor vehicles, for example, in the front of the vehicle behind a radiator grille visible from the outside, with the radiator grille forming part of the vehicle's exterior silhouette. Fan assemblies are often used in a vehicle's thermal management system. Fan assemblies that incorporate two heat exchangers as built-in elements are known from industrial practice.

[0004] DE 10 2005 039 091 A1 discloses a mounting support system, in particular a front-end module, comprising a mounting support frame in which at least one heat exchanger is held. To create a mounting support system that simplifies the installation of the heat exchanger in the mounting support frame, at least one combination profile element is arranged between the mounting support frame and the heat exchanger. This combination profile element has a form-fitting region through which a complementarily designed bearing region of the heat exchanger is mounted in the mounting support frame.

[0005] DE 199 18 167 B4 relates to a sealing element for sealing the space between a heat exchanger of a heating and / or air conditioning system of a motor vehicle and a housing of the system, wherein the sealing element consists of a particle foam. In order to provide an improved sealing element for a heat exchanger of a heating and / or air conditioning system, which is particularly inexpensive to manufacture and can be installed in a very simple manner, wherein the sealing element should not only seal against leakage air, but ideally also have other properties, such as temperature and sound insulation, and which should be as resistant to microorganisms as possible and be inexpensive, easy and quick to install as a mass product, it is proposed that the sealing element have individual sections, and that adjacent sections are each connected to one another via a film hinge.

[0006] Compared to previously known fan assemblies, the invention is based on the object of solving the following problem with the simplest and most cost-effective means possible: For efficient cooling, the use of multi-stage cooling with two heat exchangers is recommended. At the same time, bypasses or backflows should be prevented to reduce the drag coefficient and ensure safe and efficient operation of the heat exchangers, thus achieving a reduction in emissions classified as harmful, especially carbon dioxide emissions. A fan assembly should be easy to install and error-free. The seals located in the mounting section should be positioned in such a way that they at least tightly, preferably completely, seal gaps or openings.

[0007] According to claim 1, the above object is achieved by providing a flow-restricting seal with two sealing bodies which seal the installation elements both against the frame and against each other, wherein the sealing bodies are connected to each other by means of a joint so that the sealing bodies can be pivoted relative to each other during assembly from an assembly position in which the first installation element can be mounted in the frame to an end position in which the fan assembly is mounted.

[0008] Advantageous further developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

[0009] The invention relates to a fan assembly for a vehicle, which has at least the following components: - a frame with a mounting section; - a first mounting element and a second mounting element mounted on the mounting portion in the frame; and - a structurally integrated sealing device comprising a first sealing body and a second sealing body, wherein the first installation element is sealed from the first sealing body to the mounting section of the frame.

[0010] The fan assembly is characterized in particular in that the second sealing body in the region of the mounting section of the frame seals the second installation element to the first installation element.

[0011] The fan assembly can be used in a passenger car or other vehicle. Preferably, the vehicle has a radiator opening oriented in the direction of travel, allowing airflow through the fan assembly.

[0012] The frame of the fan assembly is, for example, a part of the vehicle frame of the vehicle or a separate component that can be fastened to the vehicle, preferably to the vehicle frame.

[0013] The term structurally unitary is to be understood in this case as meaning that the two sealing bodies are in direct connection with one another, for example, are formed integrally with one another, are connected to one another via a press fit or via a joint, are preferably made from a common one-piece base material or are cast in one piece, preferably without any further processing.

[0014] The second sealing body seals the second installation element to the first installation element in the region of the first mounting section. The first sealing body extends along the mounting section of the frame, as claimed, to seal it against the first installation element. For example, both sealing bodies extend parallel in a longitudinal direction, for example, in an installation situation in a vehicle, at least approximately parallel to the vertical axis of the vehicle. In some installation situations, the longitudinal direction is tilted relative to the vertical axis in the direction of travel, for example, by approximately 15°.

[0015] The two sealing bodies are spaced apart from each other in a functional sealing direction, for example, orthogonal to the longitudinal direction. The two sealing bodies arranged in the region of the mounting section are arranged along the functional sealing direction in such a way that they seal gaps or passages at least strongly, preferably completely. For example, a bypass flow in the sealed area is reduced by at least 80%, preferably by at least 90%, compared to previously known embodiments without sealing.

[0016] For example, the sealing bodies are both arranged on the same side of the installation elements and adjacent to the same side segment of the frame forming the mounting section.

[0017] According to the invention, the sealing bodies are connected to one another by means of a joint, so that the sealing bodies can be pivoted relative to one another during assembly from an assembly position in which the first installation element can be mounted in the frame to an end position in which the fan assembly is mounted.

[0018] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the second sealing body can be releasably fixed in the mounting position, preferably on the frame.

[0019] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the second sealing body can be fixed in the final position, preferably on the frame.

[0020] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the joint comprises at least one opening through which a connecting piece of the first installation element and / or of the second installation element can be passed, at least in the assembly position and / or in the end position.

[0021] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the frame comprises a first fastening means and the sealing device on the first sealing body comprises a complementary second fastening means, by means of which the sealing device is fastened to the frame in a predetermined sealing position.

[0022] The sealing position is the position in which the first sealing body is arranged relative to the frame in the final assembly position.

[0023] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the first sealing body and the second sealing body are formed together in one piece.

[0024] In an advantageous embodiment of the fan assembly, the sealing device consists of a foamed plastic.

[0025] The sealing device preferably consists of a thermoplastic foam, particularly preferably expanded polystyrene (EPS). Alternatively, the sealing device consists, for example, of expanded polypropylene (EPP), expanded polyethylene copolymer, expanded polyethylene (EPE), or expanded polyurethane (e.g., PUR foam).

[0026] According to a further aspect, a motor vehicle is proposed which has at least one drive motor, at least one left drive wheel which can be driven by means of the drive motor to propel the motor vehicle, and a fan assembly according to an embodiment as described above.

[0027] According to a further aspect, a method for assembling a fan assembly according to an embodiment as described above is proposed, which comprises the following steps in the order mentioned: a. Mounting the sealing device in the frame of the fan assembly so that the first sealing body rests against the frame; b. Mounting the first mounting element to the mounting portion of the frame; c. pivoting the second sealing body around the joint so that the second sealing body rests against the first installation element in the region of the mounting section; d. Mounting the second installation element in the frame so that the second installation element rests against the second sealing body.

[0029] Fig. Figure 1 shows a sealing device 10 of a fan assembly 100 according to the invention. The fan assembly 100 can be used in a passenger car or another vehicle. Preferably, it is a vehicle that has a radiator opening oriented in the direction of travel.

[0030] The sealing device 10 comprises a first sealing body 11 and a second sealing body 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the two sealing bodies 11, 12 are pivotally connected to one another via a joint 13. The first sealing body 11 forms a first sealing surface 14 and a second sealing surface 15, which in the illustrated embodiment are arranged on opposite sides of the first sealing body 11, wherein a further, as shown, facing away, first sealing surface 14 is formed, so that the first sealing body 11 in an assembled state rests sealingly against the frame 30 by means of two first sealing surfaces 14 (compare, for example, Fig. 2 to Fig. 13). The third sealing surface 16 and the fourth sealing surface 17 are formed on opposite sides of the second sealing body 12.

[0031] When mounted in a fan assembly 100 according to the invention, the sealing device 10 is inserted into the frame 30 along a mounting direction MD. The sealing device 10 extends with its longitudinal extent along a longitudinal direction LD, which in the mounted state runs parallel to the mounting section 4 of the frame 30. According to Fig. 7 to Fig. 13, the longitudinal extension extends along a vertical side segment 35. In the illustrated embodiment, the longitudinal direction LD runs orthogonally to the assembly direction MD. Thus, during assembly, the two sealing surfaces 14, 15 of the first sealing body 11 are pushed against the frame 30 in the assembly direction MD and in a transverse direction TD, which runs orthogonally to the assembly direction MD and the longitudinal direction LD.

[0032] Fig. 2 to Fig. 6 show a cross-sectional view of a fan assembly 100 with a sealing device 10, which, for example, Fig. 1, along the direction shown in Fig. 1 shown section line CL.

[0033] Fig. Figure 2 shows a schematic view of a fan assembly 100 according to the invention in cross section. The sealing device 10 comprised by the fan assembly 100 can be Fig. 1. The sealing device 10 seals the gaps between the frame 30, a first installation element 40, and a second installation element 41. A preferred embodiment is shown in which the first installation element 40 and the second installation element 41 are heat exchangers. Such heat exchangers have, for example, a fluid line for a liquid cooling fluid, along which the air flow AS can be guided in a heat-transfer manner.

[0034] The frame 30 of the fan assembly 100 is, for example, a part of the vehicle frame of the vehicle or a separate component that can be fastened to the vehicle, preferably the vehicle frame. Preferably, the frame 30 circumferentially encloses an installation receptacle 36 (see Fig. 7) for receiving the installation elements 40, 41, so that the frame 30 spans an installation plane which preferably extends orthogonally to the direction of travel. In the illustrated embodiment, the frame 30 has two complementary surfaces, each designed to sealingly engage a first sealing surface 14 of the first sealing body 11. The frame 30 comprises a frame wall 33 and a frame shoulder 34. The frame shoulder 34 forms a stop along the installation direction MD, up to which stop the sealing device 10 can be inserted into the frame 30, and which forms a surface complementary to one of the first sealing surfaces 14, against which the corresponding first sealing surface 14 bears sealingly. The frame wall 33 extends orthogonally to the frame shoulder 34 and defines the position of the sealing device 10 in the transverse direction TD.The frame wall 33 forms a complementary surface to the further first sealing surface 14 of the first sealing body 11, against which it rests in a sealing manner.

[0035] The installation elements 40, 41 can be mounted on the frame 30, i.e., can be secured in a desired position. For this purpose, at least one mounting section 31, preferably several mounting sections 31, is provided on the frame 30. Particularly preferably, two mounting sections 31 are formed on two opposite sides of the frame 30.

[0036] A complementary surface of the first installation element 40, facing in the assembly direction, rests against the second sealing surface 15 of the first sealing body 11. On a side of the first installation element 40 facing opposite the assembly direction, a complementary surface to the third sealing surface 16 of the second sealing body 12 is arranged. The fourth sealing surface 17, arranged on the opposite side of the second sealing body 12, sealingly rests against a complementary surface of the second installation element 41, facing in the assembly direction.

[0037] The two sealing bodies 11, 12 of the sealing device 10 are connected to each other via the joint 13. The joint 13 is, for example, a solid-body joint or a film hinge, as shown. The joint 13 can be formed by a thinning of the material between the two sealing bodies 11, 12. For example, the joint 13 is formed by a wedge-shaped groove 18. By pivoting, the second sealing body 12 can be pivoted relative to the first sealing body 11 from an assembly position to an end position.

[0038] When the second sealing body 12 is in the assembly position, the first installation element 40 can be inserted into the frame 30 and mounted on the mounting section 31. When the first installation element 40 is mounted in the frame 30, the second sealing body 12 can be pivoted into the end position. In the end position, the second sealing body 12 rests against the first installation element 40. In the illustrated end position, the sealing device 10 encloses the first installation element 40 on three sides and has a U-shaped cross-section. The first sealing body 11 and second sealing body 12 can preferably be pivoted relative to one another through an angle A of at least 90° or at least 180°.

[0039] Alternatively, the first sealing body 11 and the second sealing body 12 are designed as separate components, and the second sealing body 12 is only installed once the first installation element 40 is mounted in the frame 30. In such an embodiment, the second sealing body 12 can be installed directly in the final position. For example, the second sealing body 12 can be connected to the first sealing body 11 via a plug-in connection.

[0040] The second installation element 41 is also pushed into the frame 30 in the assembly direction MD and connected there to the first installation element 40 or the frame 30. The second installation element 41 is preferably connected to the first installation element 40 via a locking connection 45. The locking connection 45 can be designed such that the insertion movement of the second installation element 41 is superimposed by a pivoting movement in order to fasten the second installation element 41 to the first installation element 40. Due to the contact of the fourth sealing surface 17 of the second sealing body 12 against the complementary surface of the second installation element 41, the second sealing body 12 is held in a form-fitting manner in the end position between the first installation element 40 and the second installation element 41 and cannot be pivoted back from the end position.

[0041] An air flow AS flows through both installation elements 40, 41. The air flow AS can be actively conveyed by a fan module and / or passively conveyed by the relative speed of the vehicle to the ambient air. To convey the air flow AS, the fan module preferably comprises a propeller, as shown. The air flow AS is guided past the fluid lines of the installation elements 40, 41 in both installation elements 40, 41, transferring heat. The fluid lines each have two fluid connections 43, namely an inlet connection and an outlet connection.

[0042] The first sealing body 11 is fastened to the frame 30 via a first fastening means 32 of the frame 30 and a second fastening means 20 of the first sealing body 11. The first fastening means 32 is formed integrally with the frame 30, and the second fastening means 20 is formed integrally with the first sealing body 11. In the illustrated embodiment, the first fastening means 32 are designed as ribs, and the second fastening means 20 are designed as groove-shaped, complementary receptacles for the ribs. In an alternative, the fastening means 32, 20 are designed, for example, as pins or other projections and complementary receptacles.

[0043] In the illustrated embodiment, the mounting direction MD corresponds to a direction of travel in which a vehicle in which the fan assembly 100 is installed moves in a regular forward travel.

[0044] Fig. 3 shows a fan assembly 100 according to the invention after an assembly step a., in which the sealing device 10 was inserted into the frame 30. The second sealing body 12 is arranged in the assembly position relative to the first sealing body 11, so that a first installation element 40 can be mounted in the frame 30. Preferably, an angle A between the second sealing body 12 and an adjacent portion of the first sealing body 11 in the assembly position is more than 180°, 225° as shown.

[0045] Fig. 4 shows the fan assembly 100 from Fig. 2, wherein a further assembly step b. was performed. As shown, the first installation element 40 is now mounted in the frame 30 and has been pushed past the second sealing body 12 to the second sealing surface 15 and mounted on the frame 30.

[0046] Fig. Figure 5 shows a further assembly step c., in which the second sealing body 12 is pivoted from the assembly position to the final position so that the third sealing surface 16 rests against the first installation element 40. The angle A between the second sealing body 12 and the adjacent section of the first sealing body 11 is 90°. Accordingly, the second sealing body 12 was pivoted by 135°.

[0047] Fig. 6 shows a further assembly step d., in which the second installation element 41 is inserted into the frame 30 so that it rests against the fourth sealing surface 17. The second installation element 41 is attached either to the frame 30 or to the first installation element 40. For example, this is done via a positive locking connection 45. In a preferred embodiment, the insertion movement of the second installation element 41 is superimposed by a pivoting movement.

[0048] Fig. 7 shows a section of a frame 30 for a fan assembly 100 according to the invention. The frame 30 shown has a rectangular basic shape when viewed in the assembly direction MD. The rectangle is formed by four side segments 35, two of which are arranged parallel to each other and orthogonal to the other two side segments 35. The assembly section 31 shown is formed by the left side segment 35, which, as shown, extends along the longitudinal direction LD. The frame 30 comprises the frame wall 33 (for example, according to Fig. 2), which circumferentially encompasses and forms the installation receptacle 36 for the installation elements 40, 41. In order to define the position of the sealing device 10 and the installation elements 40, 41 in the assembly direction MD during assembly, the frame shoulder 34 is provided, which, when viewed in the assembly direction MD, extends from one end of the frame wall 33 at a right angle inwards into the installation receptacle 36.

[0049] Fig. 8 shows the assembly step a. based on the perspective view from Fig. 7. Accordingly, with regard to step a., reference is made to the explanations to Fig. 3. The second sealing body 12 is in a starting position. In the starting position, the second sealing body 12 extends away from the first sealing body 11 along the transverse direction TD. This embodiment is particularly easy to manufacture and assemble, since the sealing device 10 is manufactured in one piece and the joint 13 is formed via a groove 18 in the webs.

[0050] Fig. 9 shows the fan assembly 100 after completion of step a. Accordingly, the sealing device 10 is in a sealing position and is held in place by the fastening means 32, 20. The first sealing body 11 of the sealing device 10 extends from a lower one of the side segments 35 to an upper one of the side segments 35 along the lateral side segment 35 or the mounting section 31 formed by the side segment 35. The second sealing body 12 of the sealing device 10 is still in a starting position.

[0051] Fig. 10 shows a step e., in which the second sealing body 12 is pivoted relative to the first sealing body 11 into a mounting position. In this case, the second sealing body 12 is pivoted about a pivot axis running along the longitudinal direction LD. The pivot axis is formed by a joint 13, which in the present case is formed by webs which form a film hinge via a thinning of the material. The webs connect the first sealing body 11 and the second sealing body 12 and are spaced from one another such that the openings 19 located therebetween are designed and arranged to leave the mounting means 44 of the frame 30 accessible on the mounting section 31 and in the following steps (cf. Fig. 11 and Fig. 12) To pass through connecting pieces 42 of the installation elements 40, 41.

[0052] A connecting piece 42 according to such an embodiment is, for example, a fluid connection 43, a snap-in connection 45, or a mounting means 44 of the installation elements 40, 41 for mounting the first or second installation element to the mounting section 31 of the frame 30. The joint 13 is accordingly interrupted at one or more points by one or more openings 19 along the longitudinal extent of the sealing device 10, so that the connecting pieces 42 can be guided through the openings 19 in the direction of the frame 30, in the direction of the other installation element 40, 41, and / or in the direction of another fluid connection 43.

[0053] For mounting the first installation element 5, the second sealing body 12 can be fixed in such a way that it is held in the mounting position. After mounting the first installation element 5, the second sealing body 12 can be released from the mounting position in order to pivot it into the end position. Preferably, the second sealing body 12 can be releasably fixed to the frame 30 in the mounting position, particularly preferably by clamping or by means of a fixing means. Thus, the first installation element 5 can be mounted in the frame 30 without the second sealing body 12 having to be manually held in the mounting position. This embodiment offers the advantage of enabling particularly simple mounting of the installation elements 5, 6 and the sealing device 10 in the frame 30.

[0054] Fig. 11 shows step b, in which the first installation element 5 is inserted into the frame 30 and mounted there on the mounting section 31. In this regard, reference is made to the explanations for Fig. 4. As shown, the mounting means 44 of the first installation element 5 are visible, by means of which the installation element 40 is mounted on the frame 30, in this case on complementary mounting means 44 formed by the mounting section 31.

[0055] The first installation element 40 and / or the second installation element 41 (compare Fig. 13) preferably have an approximately plate-like shape and extend along the installation plane spanned by the frame 30. Installation elements 40, 41 with such a plate-like shape have a short depth extension, for example in the direction of travel, compared to the extension along the installation plane. Preferably, one of the installation elements 40, 41, in the preferred embodiment shown, the first installation element 40, has a shorter extension along the longitudinal direction LD in the installation plane than the other installation element 40, 41.

[0056] Fig. 12 shows step c, in which the second sealing body 12 is pivoted from the assembly position to the final position. Reference is made to the explanations for Fig. 5. The second sealing body 12 is pivoted again about the pivot axis along the longitudinal direction LD. The pivoting direction is opposite to the direction of the pivoting movement performed in step e.

[0057] For mounting the second installation element 41, the second sealing body 12 can be fixed in such a way that it is held in the end position. The second sealing body 12 no longer needs to be moved from the end position during the illustrated assembly method of the fan assembly 100. Optionally, the second sealing body 12 can nevertheless be releasably fixed in the end position so that, for example, the first installation element 40 can be removed during maintenance. Fixing the second sealing body 12 in the end position makes it possible to mount the second installation element 41 in the frame 3 without manually holding the second sealing body 12 in the end position. Preferably, the second sealing body 12 is fixed to the frame 30 in the end position by clamping or by means of a fixing means. This embodiment offers the advantage of enabling particularly simple mounting of the installation elements 40, 41 and the sealing device 10 in the frame 30.

[0058] Fig. Figure 13 shows step d., in which the second mounting element 41 is inserted and mounted into the frame 30. Reference is made to the explanations for Fig. 6.

[0059] A sealing device 10 is also preferably mounted in the same manner on the opposite right-hand side segment 35 (not shown). All assembly steps can also be performed simultaneously or staggered on the right-hand side segment 35. Accordingly, two of the four side segments 35 of the frame 30 are preferably provided with a sealing device 10. Alternatively, the sealing device 10 can extend circumferentially along the frame 30.

[0060] The proposed method is used for assembly, i.e., the assembly of the fan assembly 100 described above. For example, this involves pre-assembly, in which the fan assembly 100 is pre-assembled and then installed as a separate component in the vehicle. Alternatively, the fan assembly 100 is mounted directly in the vehicle or the vehicle frame; for example, the frame 30 of the fan assembly 100 is part of the vehicle frame.
