Description

[0001] The invention relates to an arrangement for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle, in particular a toggle rod. Such connecting pieces are known from the prior art and, depending on the application, are used, among other things, as coupling rods, pendulum supports, or stabilizer links.

[0002] US Pat. No. 5,615,967 A discloses a ball joint connector comprising a metal tube with a ball joint arranged at each of its two ends. The ball joint comprises a fiber-reinforced plastic housing provided with a recess and with a ball stud partially arranged therein. A plastic plug is inserted inside the tube and is fixed against an inner shoulder provided in the tube. The inner shoulder is realized by forming a radial groove in the outer surface of the tube and is spaced so far from the end face of the tube that the plastic plug is spaced from it. This creates a cylindrical chamber in the tube, the base of which is formed by the plastic plug. The end face of the tube is bent inward so that the bent portion of the tube forms a cover for the cylindrical chamber, with an opening in the center. To secure the ball joint housing, the chamber is completely filled with plastic, which forms a single unit with the ball joint housing. Furthermore, the ball joint housing encloses the outer end of the tube and engages in the groove provided for the inner shoulder. This connection of the ball joint to the tube is very complex.

[0003] DE 100 63 928 A1 discloses a connector for creating articulated connections between vehicle components. A tube is crimped at its end. A hole is located in the crimped area, into which a ball stud housed in a spherical socket is positioned. The end of the tube and the spherical socket are overmolded with plastic, thus creating a connection between them.

[0004] Also known from DE 295 06 202 U1 is a ball joint with a supporting round tube. The ball socket of the ball joint has a shaft that is inserted into the round tube and mechanically secured there. The ball socket is made entirely of plastic, making this solution unsuitable for absorbing large forces.

[0005] The document WO 2005 / 061 911 A1 describes a ball joint in which a ball of a ball shaft is pivotally mounted in a sliding shell, wherein a housing part surrounds the sliding shell at a distance and the housing part is welded to a fastening part in the form of a rod and wherein the space between the sliding shell and the housing part is filled with plastic and the housing part is at least partially enclosed by plastic, so that the connection between the sliding shell and the housing part is established via the plastic.

[0006] The disadvantage here is the welding of the housing part surrounding the sliding shell to the fastening part.

[0007] A joint rod for vehicles with a strut body made of a formed sheet metal part, which is designed at one end to receive a ball stud mounted in a sliding shell in the form of a ring or ring section, is described in EP 1 953 012 B1. The annular end of the strut body and the sliding shell are jointly at least partially overmolded with a plastic sheath, which establishes the connection between the end of the strut body and the thin-walled sliding shell of the ball joint. The forming steps for producing the strut body with the ring section or ring formed thereon are disadvantageous.

[0008] The subsequently published document DE 10 2022 122 215 A1 discloses a generic assembly for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle. This assembly comprises an injection-molded joint housing in which a ball of a ball stud is pivotably mounted and at least partially encloses the joint. The joint housing is reinforced with a metallic insert that surrounds the ball at least in part and is inserted with at least one section into one end of a strut body of the coupling rod or joint rod. The strut body has a forming section that is molded to the insert. Forming the strut body requires increased manufacturing effort.

[0009] The also subsequently published document DE 10 2022 205 763 A1 describes a chassis component in which an insert rests against the outer contour of a connecting element and is overmolded with plastic to form a joint housing. The insert and the connecting element feature engagement contours, the production of which is also complex.

[0010] EP 3 625 065 B1 describes a joint component consisting of two half-shells connected by a web and overmolded with plastic. The production of the half-shells requires increased manufacturing effort.

[0011] The object of the invention is to develop an arrangement for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle, in particular a joint rod (also referred to as a coupling rod), which has a strut-shaped section to which a ball stud can be pivotally connected in a simple and cost-effective manner, whereby high forces or loads can be absorbed.

[0012] This problem is solved by the features of the first and second patent claims. Advantageous embodiments emerge from the subclaims.

[0013] The arrangement according to the invention for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle, in particular in the form of a coupling rod or articulated rod, is characterized in that a joint head of the ball joint produced by injection molding, which connects one end of a strut body and the ball of a ball stud or a bearing shell in which the ball of a ball stud is pivotally mounted, is reinforced with a metallic insert which surrounds the ball or the bearing shell at least in some areas, wherein the insert is inserted into one end of a strut body of the coupling rod and is a ring element made of rod material or tube with a D-shaped cross section, wherein two sections inserted into the strut body abut each other with a straight section of the D-profile and semicircular sections of the sections of the D-profile inserted into the strut body correspond to the inner diameter of the tubular strut body.

[0014] An alternative embodiment of the arrangement for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle in the form of a coupling rod or articulated rod is characterized in that a joint housing of a ball joint produced by injection molding, which at least partially encloses a ball of a ball stud or a bearing shell in which the ball of a ball stud is pivotally mounted, is reinforced with a metallic insert which surrounds the ball or the bearing shell at least in some regions and which is inserted with at least one section into one end of a strut body of the coupling rod or articulated rod, wherein the ring element is designed in the manner of a pin eyelet with a shaft as a section and an annular closed or circumferentially open eyelet as an annular region, wherein the shaft engages in the strut body.

[0015] The solution is simple and cost-effective to produce.

[0016] By inserting the insert into the end of the strut body and subsequently overmolding it with plastic, significantly higher forces can be absorbed than with conventional solutions, while still providing a lightweight solution.

[0017] Preferably, the insert is designed in the form of a single-part or multi-part ring element which has at least one section which engages in one end of the strut body, wherein a region of the ring element which surrounds the ball or the bearing shell at least in part extends outside the strut body, and wherein the ball or the bearing shell at least in part, the surrounding region of the ring element at least in part and the region of the strut body adjoining this at least in part are overmolded with plastic and are thus connected to one another.

[0018] The area surrounding the ball or the bearing shell can, for example, be hook-shaped, eyelet-shaped, ring-shaped or ring-section-shaped.

[0019] Furthermore, it is advantageous if the section of the ring element engaging in the strut body has an outer contour that corresponds to the inner contour of the strut body.

[0020] However, it may also be possible for the outer contour of the section engaging in the strut body to be smaller on the circumference than the inner contour of the strut body. In this case, for example, an intermediate element can be arranged between the outer contour of the section and the inner contour of the strut body and / or the strut body can be formed radially inwards onto the outer contour of the section.

[0021] In general, it is also possible to fix the strut body and the section of the insert / ring element that engages in the strut body together in order to ensure positional stability until the overmolding with plastic. For this purpose, for example, at least one circumferential recess can be introduced into the strut body, which is formed into the engaging section of the ring element.

[0022] In a preferred variant, the ring element is designed in the manner of a split pin, which has two straight parallel or almost parallel sections which are inserted into the strut body, wherein the annular surrounding region of the ring element extends between the two sections outside the strut body.

[0023] Alternatively, the ring element can also be designed in the manner of a pin eyelet with a shaft and an annular closed or circumferentially open eyelet, wherein the shaft engages in the strut body.

[0024] According to a further variant of the invention, the ring element can also be designed in two parts, wherein each section which engages in the strut body is followed by a region which is bent outwards and optionally inwards again outside the strut body, wherein the ends of the bent regions are spaced apart from one another.

[0025] It is according to the invention that the ring element consists of rod material with a D-shaped cross section, so that the two sections inserted into the strut body abut one another with the straight region of the D-profile and the semicircular regions of the D-profile essentially correspond to the inner diameter of the tubular strut body.

[0026] The ring element can also have a round or rectangular cross-section and / or be made of solid material or be hollow.

[0027] In order to increase the adhesion of the plastic, the strut body and / or the ring element can be provided with a profile, at least in part, at least in the area that is overmolded with plastic.

[0028] The strut body and / or the ring element can have one or more knurled areas or other structured areas such as grooves, notches and the like to ensure that the plastic connects securely to them.

[0029] In the solution according to the invention, the joint housing of the ball joint, which is produced by injection molding and encloses the ball or the bearing shell of the ball of a ball stud, is reinforced for the first time with an annular metallic insert which is inserted into the strut body of the coupling rod.

[0030] The solution according to the invention provides an arrangement for the articulated connection of components arranged in the chassis of a motor vehicle, thus providing a joint assembly with a hybrid design that can be used, for example, in a coupling rod, a toggle rod, or a stabilizer bar. It is particularly suitable for heavy loads while being comparatively lightweight. This creates a cost-effective alternative to the conventional rod-and-ring design.

[0031] The advantages continue to be the feasible lightweight construction, the cost-effective design and the possibility of use for a stabilizer. - Reinforcement of the plastic body, - Pipe closed with “insert”, - no plastic can flow in, - Plastic is held on pipe by knurling - Knurl transfers force to plastic radial and axial forces are absorbed

[0032] The invention is explained in more detail below using exemplary embodiments and associated drawings.

Fig. 28 Ring element 2 with two sections 2.1, 2.2, which are laterally adjacent to the strut body 1 in longitudinal section, Fig. 29 Ring element 2 after Fig. 27 in side view, Fig. 30 wound ring element 2 with a spring-like wound section into which the strut body 1 is inserted. Fig. 31 starting semi-finished product 2A preformed from a sheet, Fig. 32 Ring element 2 bent from the starting semi-finished product 2A in three-dimensional view, Fig. 33 Ring element 2 bent from the starting semi-finished product 2A in plan view, Fig. 34 Section DD according to Fig. 33.

[0034] Fig. 1 shows a tubular strut body 1 with a round cross-section, into whose open end a ring element 2 with two parallel and adjacent sections 2.1, 2.2 engages. The ring element 2 has a D-shaped cross-section, see also Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. The tubular strut body 1 is provided with a profile 3 in the form of knurling in two areas on the circumference.

[0035] The ring element 2 is also provided with a profiling 4 in its annular area 2.3.

[0036] Furthermore, the ring element 2 has a substantially straight side 2a and a semicircular side 2b in cross section.

[0037] The straight side 2a of the ring element 2 is directed radially inwards in the ring-shaped area 2.3 ( Fig. 1).

[0038] The two straight sides 2a of sections 2.1, 2.2 lie against each other in the strut body 1 and the two semicircular sides 2b lie against the inner diameter d1 of the strut body 1 (here a tube) according to Fig. 2 on.

[0039] Fig. Figure 3 shows a section of a D-shaped starting wire for the ring element 2. The straight side 2a and the curved side 2b are visible. The width b essentially corresponds to the inner diameter d1 of the tubular strut body 1, and the height h corresponds to half the inner diameter.

[0040] Another variant is in Fig. 4 in plan view and in Fig. 5 in section BB. This is shown in one end of the here also as in Fig. 1 tubular strut body 1 engaging ring element 2 consists of a wire with a round cross-section and has a hook-shaped bent ring-shaped area 2.3.

[0041] The outer diameter D2 of the section 2.1 engaging the strut body 1 is smaller than the inner diameter d1 of the strut body 1. The distance between them is compensated by a sleeve 5. The annular region 2.3 has an inner diameter d2.3 that is larger than the diameter DK of the ball (not shown) or of the bearing shell when it surrounds the ball, indicated by dashed lines.

[0042] Fig. 6 shows a variant in which the ring element 2 is not formed in one piece, but consists of two parts 2.3.1 and 2.3.2, which are formed in the shape of ring segments in the annular region 2.3 and thus partially surround the diameter DK indicated by the dashed line at a distance. Part 2.3.1 engages in the tubular strut body 1 with a straight section 2.1 and part 2.3.2 with a straight section 2.2. At their ends facing away from the strut body 1, the two parts 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 are spaced apart from each other by a distance c, which is preferably smaller than the diameter DK of the ball or an outer diameter of the bearing shell. Fig. Figure 7 shows a variant in which the annular region 2.3 is also not closed. For this purpose, a rod- or tubular semi-finished product 2B was provided with a cut 2S along its longitudinal axis (see illustration A), and the resulting cut region was then bent open to form the annular region 2.3 (see illustration B). The remaining, uncut, straight section 2.1 is then inserted into the strut body (not shown here).

[0043] Fig. Figure 8 shows a variant of a ring element 2 with a D-shaped hollow profile, which has an annular region 2.3 and two sections 2.1, 2.2 that abut one another and are inserted into a strut body (not shown here) with a circular hollow profile. The D-shaped hollow profile reduces the weight of the ring element 2.

[0044] Fig. 9 shows the longitudinal section through a strut body 1 with a ring element 2 according to Fig. 1 to 3.

[0045] The cross section of a strut body 1 made of a tube with a rectangular / square profile and with engaging sections 2.1, 2.2 of a ring element 2 made of rectangular flat material is shown in Fig. 10. Outside the pipe extends similar to the Fig. 1, Fig. 7, Fig. 8 between sections 2.1, 2.2 the annular area 2.3 of the ring element 2, not visible here.

[0046] Fig. 11 shows the cross-section of a strut body 1 made of a U-profile with engaging sections 2.1, 2.2 of a ring element 2 made of rectangular flat material, which protrude in height above the open U-profile of the strut body 1 and Fig. 12 shows a similar variant, in which the ring element 2 is also made of a rectangular profile, but does not extend beyond the open side of the U-profile. It is possible to bend the protruding edges of the U-profile over the engaging sections 2.1, 2.2 of the ring element 2, as indicated by the thick arrows.

[0047] In Fig. Figure 13 shows a three-dimensional view of the end of a strut body 1 made of a U-profile with an inserted ring element 2, whose sections 2.1, 2.2 engaging with the U-profile terminate at the open top of the U-profile. In the finished ball joint, the annular region 2.3 encloses the ball of the ball stud or the bearing shell in which the ball of the ball stud is accommodated, at a distance that is filled with plastic during injection molding (not shown here).

[0048] Fig. 14 shows an example of an end of a strut body 1 with sections 2.1, 2.2 of a ring element 2 inserted into it according to Fig. 1 in side view. The ball 6.1 of a ball stud 6, which is not supported by a bearing shell 7, is positioned in its annular area 2.3. The inner diameter d2.3 of the annular region 2.3 of the ring element 2 is larger than the diameter DK of the ball 6.1, creating a gap S or distance between them. During injection molding, the ball 6.1, the annular region 2.3 of the ring element 2, and the end of the strut body 1 are at least partially encapsulated with plastic up to the profile 3 (knurling), which also flows into the gap S. The plastic then forms the bearing for the ball 6.1 and, with the reinforcement of the annular region 2.3, the housing (not shown) of the ball joint 9.

[0049] A joint rod G with a strut body 1 and ring elements 2 inserted at both ends, in whose ring-shaped areas 2.3 the balls 6.1 of a ball pivot 6 are accommodated, is Fig. 15 shown as a principle sketch.

[0050] Each ball 6.1 is pivotally mounted in a bearing shell 7. The strut body 1 has a profile 3 at each end. By overmolding the bearing shells 7, the ring elements 2, and the respective end of the strut body 1 with plastic 8 (indicated by dashed lines), a connection is created between them, so that a ball joint 9 with a plastic joint head, reinforced with the insert in the form of the ring element 2, is formed at each end of the joint rod G. A receiving groove 8.1 for a sealing bellows (not shown here) was introduced into the plastic 8.

[0051] The two ball joints 9 are designed identically and have the same orientation in the initial position shown here as an example. It is also possible to arrange them in a different orientation relative to each other, e.g., at an angle of 45°, 90°, or 180°, depending on the application conditions. For this purpose, the two ring elements 2 with their annular regions 2.3 are arranged in the corresponding orientation relative to each other.

[0052] A three-dimensional representation of one end of a joint rod G with a ball joint 9 shows Fig. 16 and the longitudinal section CC Fig. 17. A connection was created between a strut body 1 and a ball (not shown here housed in a bearing shell) of a ball stud 6 using the overmolded plastic 8. The ball of the ball stud 6 and the bearing shell 7 in which it is housed, as well as the ring element 2, which is inserted into the strut body 1, and the end of the strut body 1 were overmolded with plastic 8, thereby forming the joint head or joint housing 9.1 of the ball joint 9, which is reinforced by the annular region 2.3 of the ring element 2.

[0053] In Fig. Figure 18 shows a further variant of a ring element 2 in the form of a pin eyelet, in which the annular region 2.3 is closed. The section 2.1 to be connected to the strut body 1 is made of solid material and is welded to the annular region 2.3. The inner diameter d1 of the strut body 1 and the outer diameter D2 of the inserted section 2.1 are designed to correspond.

[0054] After inserting section 2.1 into the end of the strut body 1, a positive connection can be created between them by one or more notches or indentations (not shown) made from the outside, so that they are fixed to each other at least axially (pull-out-proof) and if necessary also radially (twist-proof).

[0055] In Fig. 19 is the side view of the ring element 2 according to Fig. 18, from which it can be seen that the diameter D2 of section 2.2 is greater than the height h2 of the annular region 2.3.

[0056] Fig. 20 shows a variant according to Fig. 18 in the side view, from which it can be seen that the diameter D2 of the section 2.2 can also be smaller than the height h2 of the annular area 2.3.

[0057] Of course, according to a variant not shown, D2 and h2 can also be the same.

[0058] In Fig. 21 shows a tubular starting semi-finished product 2A for the production of a ring element 2. This is squeezed together in one area, as indicated by the arrows.

[0059] The resulting preformed semi-finished product 2B has a tubular section 2.1 and a squeezed area 2.3B.

[0060] The top view of the preformed semi-finished product 2B is shown in Fig. 23 and the rear view in Fig. 24. The compressed section 2.3B is now bent into the annular section 2.3. It is now possible to insert the section 2.1 into the end of a hollow strut body 1, as shown in Fig. 25 or according to Fig. 26 to insert the end of the strut body 1 into the section 2.1 of the ring element 2, whereby in this variant the strut body 1 can consist of solid material or of a hollow profile.

[0061] Fig. Figure 27 shows the longitudinal section of another variant of a ring element 2, in which the strut body 1, designed as a hollow profile, has its end inserted into a bush-shaped section 2.1 of the ring element 2. The section 2.1 is welded to the annular area 2.3.

[0062] According to Fig. 28 is the longitudinal section and in Fig. 29 shows the side view of a ring element 2, which is similar to Fig. 1 is designed in a pin-shaped manner, whereby the two parallel cuts 2.1, 2.2 do not engage the strut body 1, but rather rest against its outer circumference. To prevent the plastic (not visible) from penetrating the hollow strut body 1 during injection molding, the end of the strut body 1 was sealed with a plug 10.

[0063] In Fig. 30 shows a variant of a ring element 2, in which the ring element 2 has an open annular region 2.3, to which a section 2.1 is connected, which is bent in a spiral shape. The spiral-shaped section 2.1 surrounds the end of the strut body 1, which here is made of solid material. If the strut body 1 is made of a tubular material, as in Fig. 28 the open end must also be closed to prevent the penetration of plastic.

[0064] In the Fig. 31 to 34 show a further variant of a ring element 2.

[0065] This is bent from a starting semi-finished product 2A, which is Fig. 31 and was deep-drawn from a sheet metal. It has a half-shell-shaped cross-section and features a peripheral edge-shaped region 2A.R, which has a peripheral upper edge / top side 2A.O.

[0066] This initial semi-finished product 2A is now bent in such a way that ring element 2 is created with the annular area 2.3 and the sections 2.1, 2.2 that are adjacent to one another in the area of the upper edge 2A.O, as shown in Fig. 32. Between the adjacent sections 2.1, 2.2, a cavity 2H is formed, which is open toward the annular region 2.3. A radius 2R exists between the annular region 2.3 and the respective section 2.1, 2.2.

[0067] The cavity 2H is closed at its end facing away from the annular region 2.3 by a bottom-side region 2.4.

[0068] Fig. Figure 33 shows a plan view in which the adjacent end regions 2.1, 2.2 of the ring element 2 engage the strut body 1, which is made of a hollow profile with a circular cross-section, over a length L. The radii 2R between the sections 2.1 and 2.2 and the annular region 2.3 are visible. The annular region 2.3 has an inner diameter d2.3 that is larger than the diameter DK of the ball of a ball stud (not shown), indicated by dashed lines, whereby a gap S is present between them.

[0069] Fig. 34 shows the section DD according to Fig.33, from which it can be seen that the sections 2.1, 2.2 are inserted into the strut body 1 and abut one another at the upper edges 2A.O and that a cavity 2H is formed between the sections 2.1, 2.2.

[0070] To create the connection between the ball stud (not shown) and the strut body 1, the ball stud 6 with its ball 6.1 is positioned in the annular region 2.3 of the ring element 2 accommodated in the strut body 1, and the ball 6.1, the ring element 3, and the end of the strut body 1 are overmolded with plastic. In this embodiment, the plastic flows into the cavity 2H of the ring element 2 and into the gap S, as well as into the half-shell region of the annular region 3, as indicated by the thick arrows. After the plastic has hardened, a reliable, articulated connection is created between the strut body 1 and the ball stud 6. The ring element 2 reinforces the resulting joint housing 9.1, so that large forces can be absorbed.

[0071] Of course, the ball of the ball stud can also be accommodated in a bearing shell (not shown here), the outer diameter of which is then smaller than the inner diameter of the annular area 2.3 and which is then also at least partially overmolded with plastic. Because the cavity 2H in this variant is filled with plastic, this area is additionally reinforced.

[0072] The plastic used in injection molding is preferably a polyamide (also with reinforcement, e.g. fiber reinforcement) and the ring element 2 consists of metal, e.g. aluminum or steel, in particular spring steel or a fiber-reinforced plastic, e.g. of a thermoplastic semi-finished product reinforced with continuous fibers, such as an organic sheet (fiber-matrix semi-finished product).
