Description

Technical field

[0001] The invention relates to a device for labeling containers with a supply unit for supplying a labeling device with a label tape for labeling containers. Technical background

[0002] A container handling system may include a labeling unit for labeling containers. For example, the labeling unit may label the containers with labels from a label roll (roll of label material).

[0003] Traditionally, the label rolls are manually reloaded by an operator. The user may also have to perform other tasks, such as cutting the label tape to the correct position, applying double-sided adhesive tape to the label tape, or feeding the label tape into an automatic application system.

[0004] DE 10 2021 125 133 A1 describes a mobile robot, a supply system, and a method for changing label rolls on a labeling unit for labeling containers. The mobile robot comprises a vehicle unit for moving the robot and a manipulator unit with a multi-axis manipulator and an associated end effector for manipulating label rolls. Because the end effector is designed to grip the label rolls and empty cores of label rolls in a load-bearing, circumferential manner, ergonomically problematic steps in reloading label rolls can be performed entirely by machine with high precision and in a material-friendly manner.

[0005] EP 3 760 550 A1 describes a transfer unit for feeding rolls of labeling material to a labeling module configured to apply labels to objects. The transfer unit has a carrier element configured to hold a plurality of rolls arranged vertically in at least one stack. The transfer unit also has a robot arm configured to pick up at least one roll at a time from the stack at a gripping station and release it at a release station.

[0006] The invention is based on the objective of creating an improved supply of label rolls to a labeling device. Summary of the invention

[0007] The problem is solved by the features of the independent claims. Advantageous further developments are specified in the dependent claims and the description.

[0008] One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a device for labeling containers (e.g., for a container handling system). The device comprises a labeling unit, preferably a rotary labeling unit, with a labeling unit for labeling the containers. The device includes a supply unit connected to the labeling unit for feeding a label tape to the labeling unit. The supply unit includes a robot cell spaced apart from the labeling unit. The robot cell has a roll storage unit for depositing label rolls. The robot cell further includes a roll pickup device for picking up and unwinding at least one label roll onto the label tape for feeding to the labeling unit. The robot cell also includes a robot (e.g., a robotic robot).(with or without collaborative functionality), preferably a multi-axis robot, particularly preferably an articulated robot. The robot is configured to automatically load the roll handling device with label rolls from the roll storage.

[0009] The device offers the advantage of enabling a very high degree of automation. The robot can advantageously perform as many tasks as possible, instead of relying on specialized automated individual devices, resulting in significant cost and flexibility benefits. Furthermore, the device's spacing ensures that access to the labeling unit is not obstructed by the robot, etc. This allows, for example, maintenance or adjustment work on the labeling unit to be carried out easily and with excellent accessibility. Unlike the prior art according to DE 10 2021 125 133 A1, it is also advantageous that the area directly in front of the labeling unit does not need to be meticulously kept clear to ensure a constant positioning space for the mobile robot. The robot cell can also advantageously enable high throughput of the supply system, which can, for example, supply more than one labeling unit. In this context, the robot cell allows, for instance, the installation of multiple roll handling devices, as there are no confined spaces like those directly at the labeling unit.

[0010] In one embodiment, the supply unit further comprises a label tape buffer, which is connected to the roll take-up device for receiving the label tape from the take-up device and to the labeling unit for feeding the label tape to the labeling unit. The label tape buffer is designed to buffer the received label tape and to release the buffered label tape for feeding to the labeling unit. Preferably, the label tape buffer can be arranged inside or outside an optional protective enclosure of the robot cell. Advantageously, this ensures a continuous supply of label tape even when, for example, two label tapes are being joined together.

[0011] In a further embodiment, the device also includes a tape guide bridge that connects the supply unit and the labeling unit for guiding the label tape to the labeling unit. Preferably, the tape guide bridge can be arranged outside of an optional protective enclosure of the robot cell. Advantageously, the tape guide bridge allows for a simple supply of the spaced-apart labeling unit without blocking the travel paths between the labeling unit and the supply unit.

[0012] In one embodiment, the robot cell is spaced at least far enough away from the labeling unit that the labeling unit can be detached from the labeling device and moved away (e.g., pushed aside). Alternatively or additionally, a minimum distance between the robot cell and the labeling unit can be ≥ 1 m, ≥ 1.5 m, ≥ 2 m, ≥ 3 m, ≥ 4 m, or ≥ 5 m. Alternatively or additionally, a walking or travel path can run between the robot cell and the labeling unit.

[0013] In another embodiment, the labeling device includes an additional labeling unit for labeling the containers. The supply unit is connected to this additional labeling unit for feeding it another label tape. The robot cell is positioned at a distance from the additional labeling unit and also includes an additional roll pickup device for picking up and unwinding at least one additional label roll to feed it to the additional labeling unit. The robot is configured to automatically load the additional roll pickup device with label rolls from the roll storage. Advantageously, a single robot can thus supply several labeling units with label rolls. The robot cell eliminates the need for the robot to move between two labeling units in a time-consuming and complex manner.Instead, the robot can advantageously ensure the supply of the labeling units from a single position. The robot cell can thus achieve high overall throughput for the supply system.

[0014] In one version, at least one of the following is fulfilled: - the supply device has a further label tape buffer which is connected to the further roll receiving device for receiving the further label tape from the further roll receiving device and to the further labeling unit for feeding the further label tape to the further labeling unit, wherein the further label tape buffer is designed to buffer the received further label tape and to buffer the buffered further label tape for feeding to the further labeling unit; - the device further includes an additional tape guide bridge that connects the supply unit and the additional labeling unit for guiding the additional label tape to the additional labeling unit; - the robot cell is spaced at least far enough away from the further labeling unit that the further labeling unit can be detached from the labeling device and moved away (e.g., pushed away); - a minimum distance between the robot cell and the further labeling unit is ≥ 1 m, ≥ 1.5 m, ≥ 2 m, ≥ 3 m, ≥ 4 m or ≥ 5 m; and - A walking or driving path runs between the robot cell and the further labeling unit.

[0015] In another embodiment, the roller holding device and the further roller holding device are each oriented towards the robot, preferably radially with respect to a (e.g., stationary) base of the robot, and / or equidistant from the robot. Advantageously, the robot can thus perform essentially the same movement to load the roller holding devices, so that essentially a single programming for this robot movement is sufficient to load several roller holding devices and also to cover a variety of robot cell configurations (e.g., stationary robot, robot on a linear axis, variable position of the roller holdings, different number of roller holdings, etc.). If the robot is on, for example,Since the robot base is movably mounted on a linear axis, it has a multitude of working positions, and the distance and orientation of the roller mounting devices can therefore be variable within a certain range.

[0016] In one embodiment, the roll-holding device and / or the further roll-holding device (each) has two roll holders, preferably roll plates, preferably oriented horizontally or vertically, and a connector configured to join a tape end of a label roll from one of the two roll holders to a tape beginning of a label roll from the other of the two roll holders. Preferably, the robot can further be configured to feed the tape beginning to the connector and / or to apply adhesive tape to the tape beginning. Advantageously, this enables an uninterrupted supply of label tapes as well as a secure and quick connection of the label tapes. A horizontal orientation of the roll holders can also advantageously facilitate loading by the robot.

[0017] In another embodiment, the robot cell further comprises a protective enclosure that encloses the roll storage unit, the roll picking device, and the robot. Alternatively or additionally, the robot cell also includes a system for generating at least one signal curtain, preferably a light curtain or laser curtain, for (e.g., one-sided or multi-sided) delimiting the robot cell, wherein the system for generating a signal curtain is preferably configured in front of the roll storage unit to allow access to the roll storage unit from outside the robot cell. Advantageously, the protective enclosure and / or the signal curtain can enable very high speed and dynamics of the robot, as there is no danger to persons in the vicinity. Thus, the robot cell can be operated at very high power, which, for example, can also supply more than one labeling unit. However, it is, for example,It is also possible to completely forgo a protective enclosure and signal curtains and operate the robot as a collaborative industrial robot (cobot). A signal curtain can be advantageous in simplifying the loading of the roll storage area with label rolls, for example, using a pallet truck or an automated guided vehicle (AGV).

[0018] In one embodiment, the robot cell further comprises a tool change station, which is preferably arranged within an optional protective enclosure of the robot cell. The robot is configured to perform an automatic tool change at the tool change station. Optionally, the robot can be configured to perform an automatic tool change at the tool change station between different handling tools, preferably comprising at least one roller handling tool, preferably an internal roller gripper, for handling a label roll and / or at least one tape start handling tool for handling the tape start of a label roll. Advantageously, the robot can thus utilize different gripper types and different grippers of the same type (e.g., different tape start grippers for low and high label rolls).

[0019] In another embodiment, the robot is a stationary robot, or the robot is movable within the robot cell, preferably along a linear axis and / or guided by rails.

[0020] In one embodiment, the roll holder can also be manually loaded with a label roll. Preferably, the robot cell can further include an (obstacle-free) personnel movement area located between the roll storage and the roll holder, allowing an operator to manually load the roll holder with a label roll (e.g., when the robot is defective, undergoing maintenance, or deactivated).

[0021] In one embodiment, the robot cell further comprises a (e.g., stationary or robot-borne) testing device (e.g., comprising a camera, a capacitive sensor, and / or an ultrasonic sensor) which is, for example, arranged within the protective enclosure and / or configured to test label rolls, preferably with respect to at least one of: - one winding direction, - a position and / or state of a tape start; - one type, - a diameter, - a deviation from a specified roll parameter (e.g., label overhang above core, dimensions, weight, etc.), and - damage.

[0022] In another embodiment, the robot cell further comprises a label roll buffer for temporarily storing inspected label rolls, which is preferably arranged within an optional protective enclosure of the robot cell. This advantageously allows for the temporary storage of inspected label rolls.

[0023] In one embodiment, the robot is configured to turn a label roll based on the winding direction of the respective label roll, which is previously detected by a testing device. Advantageously, this allows the robot to ensure that the label roll is fed to the roll receiving device with the correct winding direction, without requiring any special measures to ensure that the label rolls are already placed on the roll tray in the correct orientation.

[0024] In another embodiment, the robot has an adhesive tape dispenser for dispensing, preferably double-sided, adhesive tape for joining label strips. Advantageously, a single tape dispenser can thus be used for multiple connectors of the roll-holding devices. This can be particularly advantageous in combination with several roll-holding devices arranged in a defined manner relative to the robot, as it significantly reduces the programming effort required for the robot.

[0025] In one embodiment, the robot cell further comprises a detection device (e.g., comprising the system for generating at least one signal curtain) configured to detect a user intrusion into the robot cell, and when the intrusion is detected: - (e.g., only) to stop the robot or to switch the robot's operation from an autonomous operating mode to a cooperative operating mode; and / or - to allow the roller intake device to continue running.

[0026] This allows, advantageously, only the robot to be stopped or switched to a user-safe mode when entering the cell. The roller picking device(s) and any connectors can continue operating without modification, as they pose no danger to the operator. This prevents an immediate production interruption when entering the robot cell. Alternatively, the robot can be operated as a cobot, allowing work to continue at a reduced speed, even with the robot cell's safety enclosure open.

[0027] Preferably, the supply system can be modular, and / or the at least one roller handling device and the robot each have their own control unit. Advantageously, this modularity allows for the construction of different supply systems with varying levels of automation. Preferably, there is no central control cabinet in the robot cell. Instead, each component can have its own control unit, which advantageously improves modularity and simplifies subsequent modifications or retrofits.

[0028] Another aspect of the present disclosure relates to a container treatment plant (e.g., for tempering, manufacturing, cleaning, coating, testing, filling, closing, pasteurizing, labeling, printing, marking, laser marking, and / or packaging containers for liquid or pasty media, preferably beverages, liquid food products, or products from the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries). The container treatment plant may include the labeling device as disclosed herein.

[0029] For example, the containers can be designed as bottles, cans, canisters, cartons, vials, tubes, etc.

[0030] Preferably, the term "control device" can refer to electronics (e.g., implemented as a driver circuit or with microprocessor(s) and data storage) and / or mechanical, pneumatic, and / or hydraulic control systems, which, depending on their design, can perform control tasks, regulation tasks, and / or processing tasks. Although the term "control" is used here, it can also appropriately encompass or refer to "regulation" or "control with feedback" and / or "processing."

[0031] The previously described preferred embodiments and features of the invention can be combined with one another in any way. Brief description of the characters

[0033] The embodiments shown in the figures correspond at least partially, so that similar or identical parts are provided with the same reference numerals and for their explanation reference is also made to the description of the other embodiments or figures in order to avoid repetition. Detailed description of exemplary embodiments

[0034] The Fig. Figure 1 shows a device 10 for labeling containers. The device 10 comprises a labeling unit 12 and a supply unit 24. The device 10 can be incorporated into a container treatment plant.

[0037] Preferably, the labeling device 12 can be a rotary labeling device. A drive of the labeling device 12 can rotate a carousel of the labeling device 12. Containers can be held and labeled at intervals along the circumference of the carousel in processing stations. Alternatively, the labeling device 12 can be designed, for example, as a linear labeling device, e.g., with only one processing station or with several processing stations arranged side by side and / or one behind the other in a row.

[0038] Preferably, the labeling device 12 can be connected to at least one further container handling device by means of a container conveyor system 18. The container conveyor system 18 can, for example, have at least one transport star wheel and / or at least one linear conveyor.

[0039] Preferably, the labeling device 12 can be connected to the supply device 24 via at least one (label) tape guide bridge 20, 22. A (unwound) label tape can be fed from the supply device 24 to the labeling device 12 via the at least one tape guide bridge 20, 22.

[0040] Specifically, at least one labeling unit 14, 16 can be connected to the supply unit 24 via at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22. At least one label belt can be guided from the supply unit 24 to the at least one labeling unit via the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22. For example, a first labeling unit 14 can be connected to the supply unit 24 via a first belt guide bridge 20. A second labeling unit 16 can be connected to the supply unit 24 via a second belt guide bridge 22.

[0041] Preferably, the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22 can extend at a height higher than the at least one labeling unit 14, 16. The at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22 can be passed under by the respective labeling unit 14, 16 during coupling and uncoupling. It is also possible, for example, for a user to walk under the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22 or for an automated guided vehicle (AGV) to pass under the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22. For example, the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22 can extend at a height of ≥ 1.50 m, ≥ 2.0 m, or ≥ 2.5 m.

[0042] Preferably, the at least one belt guide bridge 20, 22 extends substantially in a straight line between the respective labeling unit 14, 16 and the supply unit 24.

[0043] The tape guide bridge 20, 22 can, for example, be tunnel-shaped or channel-shaped. Preferably, the tape guide bridge 20, 22 can have a sliding surface for supporting a label tape in a sliding manner and / or lateral guide elements for guiding the label tape laterally.

[0044] The belt guide bridge 20, 22 can at least partially bridge a gap between the at least one labeling unit 14, 16 and the supply unit 24. For example, the belt guide bridge 20, 22 can have a length in a range between 1 m and 10 m.

[0045] The Fig. 1 and Fig. Figure 2 shows the supply unit 24. The supply unit 24 supplies the labeling unit 12 with at least one label tape for labeling containers.

[0046] It is possible that supply unit 24 supplies at least one additional labeling unit with at least one additional label tape for labeling containers.

[0047] The supply unit 24 comprises a robot cell 26 with a roll storage unit 34, at least one roll handling device 36, 38 and a robot 52. Optionally, the robot cell 26 may also include, for example, a protective enclosure 28, at least one label tape buffer 48, 50, a personnel movement area 46, a tool changing station 64, a testing device 68 and / or a label roll buffer 70.

[0048] The robot cell 26 is arranged at a distance from the at least one labeling unit 14, 16. Preferably, there is sufficient space between the robot cell 26 and the at least one labeling unit 14, 16 for at least one person to be present and / or to allow the at least one labeling unit 14, 16 to be attached and detached. For example, a minimum distance between the robot cell 26 and the at least one labeling unit 14, 16 can be ≥ 1 m, ≥ 1.5 m, ≥ 2 m, ≥ 3 m, ≥ 4 m or ≥ 5 m.

[0049] The (physical) protective enclosure 28 of the robot cell 26 can enclose the roll storage 34, the at least one roll holding device 36, 38, and the robot 52, and optionally the personnel movement area 46, the tool changing station 64, the testing device 68, and / or the label roll buffer 70. Preferably, the protective enclosure 28 completely encloses the roll storage 34, the at least one roll holding device 36, 38, and the robot 52, and optionally the personnel movement area 46, the tool changing station 64, the testing device 68, and / or the label roll buffer 70. The robot cell 26 and / or the protective enclosure 28 can, for example, be rectangular / box-shaped.

[0050] The protective enclosure 28 can, for example, include a protective fence or a protective wall.

[0051] Preferably, the protective enclosure 28 can have at least one door 30 for entering the robot cell 26 or the protective enclosure 28. The door 30 can, for example, be integrated into the protective enclosure 28.

[0052] Preferably, the robot cell 26 can have a system 32 for generating at least one signal curtain. The signal curtain can be, for example, a light curtain or a laser curtain. A signal curtain can be arranged or generated, for example, such that the roller storage tray 34 is accessible from outside the robot cell 26. Preferably, the signal curtain can be generated directly next to (in front of) the roller storage tray 34.

[0053] Preferably, the system 32 can generate at least one further signal curtain, which is arranged such that the tool changing station 64, the testing device 68 and / or the label roll buffer 70 is accessible from outside the robot cell 26. Preferably, the signal curtain can be generated directly next to (in front of) the tool changing station 64, the testing device 68 and / or the label roll buffer 70.

[0054] Intrusion into robot cell 26 by a user can be detected by a detection device. For example, system 32 can be part of the detection device. Alternatively or additionally, the detection device can, for example, monitor the closed state of door 30. Alternatively or additionally, the detection device can, for example, perform interior monitoring of robot cell 26, preferably using cameras.

[0055] If the detection device detects an intrusion into the robot cell 26, the detection device can preferably only stop the robot 52 and allow other devices of the robot cell 26 to continue running, e.g., the at least one roller handling device 36, 38 and optionally their connector 44. It is also possible for the detection device to switch an operating mode of the robot 52 from an autonomous operating mode, in which the robot 52 loads the at least one roller handling device 36, 38 fully autonomously and at high speed, etc., to a cooperative operating mode, in which the robot 52 is operated as a cobot.

[0056] The roll storage unit 34 can be arranged within the optional protective enclosure 28. For example, the roll storage unit 34 can be configured as a worktable on which label rolls can be placed, or as a conveyor on which label rolls are placed. However, it is also possible, for example, that the roll storage unit 34 is simply a pallet position for placing a pallet loaded with label rolls or another storage location for at least one label roll.

[0057] The roll tray 34 can be manually refilled with label rolls by a user, for example, using a pallet jack or forklift. Alternatively or additionally, refilling the label rolls at the roll tray can be automated, for example, using an automated guided vehicle (AGV). Preferably, the roll tray can be accessed by the user, the pallet jack, the forklift, and / or the automated guided vehicle through a signal curtain of the system 32.

[0058] The roll tray 34 can be positioned within the robot 52's range of motion. The robot 52 can pick up a label roll positioned on the roll tray 34.

[0059] The at least one roll holding device 36, 38 can be arranged within the optional protective housing 28. The at least one roll holding device 36, 38 is designed to hold at least one label roll and to unwind the at least one held label roll into a label strip for feeding to the labeling device 12.

[0060] Preferably, several, e.g., two, roll-holding devices 36, 38 can be included. For example, a roll-holding device 36 can be connected to the labeling unit 14 for feeding a label tape to the labeling unit 14, e.g., via the tape guide bridge 20. Another roll-holding device 38 can be connected to the further labeling unit 16 for feeding a label tape to the further labeling unit 16, e.g., via the further tape guide bridge 22.

[0061] Preferably, the roller holding devices 36, 38 can each be oriented towards the robot 52. Particularly preferably, the roller holding devices 36, 38 can each be oriented radially with respect to a base of the robot 52 (in Fig. 2 is shown only as an example for the roller holding device 36). Alternatively or additionally, it is possible, for example, that the roller holding devices 36, 38 are each arranged equidistant from the robot 52.

[0062] Preferably, a roller holding device 36, 38 each has a first roller holding 40 and a second roller holding 42 and optionally a connector 44.

[0063] The roll holders 40, 42 can each hold a roll of labels, e.g., transferred from the robot 52.

[0064] The roller mounts 40, 42 are preferably oriented horizontally. Alternatively, the roller mounts 40, 42 can be oriented vertically, for example.

[0065] Preferably, the roller receptacles 40, 42 can be designed as so-called roller plates. Alternatively, the roller receptacles 40, 42 can be designed, for example, as drawers.

[0066] The connector 44 can be configured to connect a tape end of a label roll on the roll holder 40 with a tape beginning of another label roll on the roll holder 42 (and vice versa).

[0067] The connector 44 can, for example, be designed as an adhesive connector. The adhesive connector can bond the beginning and end of the tape together, e.g., by applying spray adhesive or adhesive tape. Preferably, the adhesive tape is double-sided. The adhesive tape can, for example, be applied by the connector 44 itself and may already be applied to the end or beginning of the tape, e.g., by the robot 52.

[0068] Alternatively, connector 44 can be designed, for example, as a weld connector. The weld connector can thermally or ultrasonically weld the beginning and end of the strip together.

[0069] Preferably, the roll holders 40 and 42 can be loaded not only by the robot 52 with a label roll each, but also manually by a user. For this purpose, the user can, for example, remain and move around in a specially designated personnel movement area 46 within the robot cell 26. It is also possible for the user to operate, for example, the connector 44 from within the personnel movement area 46.

[0070] The person movement area 46 can preferably be arranged between the roll storage 34 and the at least one roll picking device 36, 38. Preferably, the robot 52 is stopped (e.g., by the detection device) when a person is in the person movement area 46. Alternatively, the robot 52 can be operated, for example, in such a way that it does not intervene in the person movement area 46 when a person is in the person movement area 46, or that it cooperates with a person in the person movement area 46 in a collaborative operating mode.

[0071] The at least one label tape buffer 48, 50 is designed to receive and buffer one label tape from at least one of the roll receiving devices 36, 38 and to release the buffered label tape. The released label tape can be fed to the labeling device 12.

[0072] For example, a label tape buffer 48 can receive a label tape unwound from the roll receiving device 36, buffer and unbuffer it, and feed it to the labeling unit 14, preferably via the tape guide bridge 20. Another label tape buffer 50 can receive a label tape unwound from the other roll receiving device 36, buffer and unbuffer it, and feed it to the other labeling unit 16, preferably via the other tape guide bridge 22.

[0073] It is possible that the at least one label tape buffer 48, 50 is arranged inside or outside the optional protective enclosure 28. Accordingly, the at least one label tape buffer 48, 50 may or may not be part of the robot cell 26.

[0074] The robot 52 can be arranged within the optional protective enclosure 28. The robot 52 is designed to automatically load the at least one roll holder 36, 38 with label rolls from the roll storage 34. The robot 52 can, for example, load the at least one roll holder 36, 38 directly from the roll storage 34. Alternatively, the robot 52 can load a label roll into the at least one roll holder 36, 38 only after, for example, inspection and / or turning and / or intermediate storage.

[0075] Preferably, robot 52 is a multi-axis robot, and especially preferably an articulated robot. The articulated robot could be, for example, a 5-axis, 6-axis, or 7-axis articulated robot. Other robot types are also conceivable.

[0076] Robot 52 can be an industrial robot without collaborative functionality. Alternatively, robot 52 can be, for example, a collaborative industrial robot (cobot) that can collaborate with a user. For example, robot 52 lifts and moves the label tapes to the at least one roll pickup device 36, 38, and a user operates the connector 44.

[0077] Preferably, the robot base of the robot 52 can be mounted in the robot cell 26 in such a way that it can be easily replaced or adapted using adapter plates. This preferably allows for the use of different robot types or manufacturers. Preferably, the robot 52 can be replaced using simple handling equipment, such as pallet trucks. For example, a (cost-effective) robot 52 with a low payload capacity can be used if only relatively light label rolls need to be moved. Should an upgrade to a robot 52 with a higher payload capacity be desired, a simple conversion is possible due to the design of the robot base. Preferably, the robot controller (control cabinet) is designed so that it does not need to be replaced.

[0078] Preferably, the robot 52 is arranged stationary in the robot cell 26. For example, the robot 52 can be arranged at a central position or in a central area within the robot cell 26, as shown in the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 is shown.

[0079] However, it is also possible for the robot 52 to be movable within the robot cell 26, preferably along a linear axis and / or guided by rails. For example, a rail can run diagonally through the robot cell 26 or centrally between two opposite sides of the robot cell 26.

[0080] The robot 52 can have a roll handling tool 54 for handling a label roll (see also Fig. 3) The handling tool 54 can pick up and place a roll of labels. The handling tool 54 is preferably pneumatically driven.

[0081] The handling tool 54 can be structurally adapted to the roll holders 40, 42, so that the handling tool 54 can transfer a label roll to a respective roll holder 40, 42 as desired. For example, the handling tool 54 can be adapted to a respective clamping shaft of the roll holders 40, 42.

[0082] Preferably, the handling tool 54 is designed as a roll gripper. Preferably, the roll gripper is designed as an internal gripper, e.g., a centric gripper, for gripping the respective label roll from the inside of the roll core. Optionally, the roll gripper can also include a clamping device 56. The clamping device 56 can secure the internally gripped label roll from the outside by gently clamping it. Preferably, the clamping device can be used for label rolls that tend to telescoping and / or to secure loose tape ends.

[0083] It is possible that the handling tool 54 or the robot 52 has at least one sensor. For example, it may include a camera 58 for detecting the position of a label roll to be picked up, e.g., on the roll tray 34. Alternatively or additionally, it may include, for example, at least one distance sensor 60 for detecting the distance and / or orientation of a label roll to be picked up or already picked up.

[0084] Preferably, the sensors of the robot 52 can also be used during the commissioning of the supply unit 24, e.g., to determine the position of one or more components (e.g., roller storage 34; roller holding device 36, 38; roller holders 40, 42 and / or connector 44, etc.). This advantageously eliminates the need for complex adjustment and calibration during commissioning.

[0085] Preferably, the robot 52 can be configured to turn a label roll using the handling tool 54. Preferably, the label roll can thus be turned as needed so that one winding direction of the label roll corresponds to a desired winding direction for the at least one roll receiving device 36, 38.

[0086] Preferably, the robot 52 can automatically handle the roller handling tool 54 (see Fig. 3) by a tape start handling tool 62 (see Fig. 4) exchange and vice versa. The robot 52 can have an automatic tool changing system, preferably a gripper changing system, for changing between the roller handling tool 54 and the belt start handling tool 62. It could also be possible to change between different sizes and / or versions of the same gripper type, e.g., for easy retrofitting.

[0087] Preferably, the robot 52 can change the handling tools 54 and 62 at a tool changing station 64 (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) The tool changing station 64 can be located within the optional protective enclosure 28. The handling tool 54 or 62 not currently in use by the robot 52 can be placed by the robot 52 at the tool changing station 64. Later, this placed handling tool 54 or 62 can be picked up again by the robot 52 from the tool changing station 64, in exchange for the other handling tool 54 or 62.

[0088] However, it is also possible in principle for the robot 52 to carry both handling tools 54, 62 simultaneously, e.g. as a combination gripper (not shown in the figures).

[0089] The example in Fig. The tape start handling tool 62 shown in Figure 4 is designed for handling the tape start of a label roll. With the handling tool 62, the tape start of a label roll, which is held by a roll receiving device 36, 38, can be guided to the connector 44.

[0090] Optionally, the handling tool 62 can cut the beginning of a label roll if, for example, the connector 44 does not have such functionality.

[0091] Optionally, the handling tool 62 can apply an adhesive or tape to the beginning of a label roll if, for example, the connector 44 does not have such functionality and the robot 52 does not have a tape dispenser.

[0092] Optionally, the handling tool can detect 62 cut marks on the label tape if, for example, the connector 44 does not have a tape dispenser with such functionality.

[0093] The handling tool 62 is preferably designed as a belt gripper. For example, the handling tool 62 can have a bellows suction gripper or a clamping device for securely picking up the belt start.

[0094] It is possible that the handling tool 62 has a device to pick up and dispose of the outer layer of tape unwound from the label roll.

[0095] Preferably, the robot 52 can have an adhesive tape dispenser 66 (see Fig. 3 and Fig. 4) The adhesive tape dispenser 66 can be configured to dispense an adhesive tape, preferably double-sided, for joining label strips.

[0096] For example, the beginning of a label roll, which is held in a roll holder 36, 38, can be guided by the handling tool 62 to the tape dispenser 66 for applying the tape to the beginning of the roll. The precise positioning of the tape can be achieved, for example, by aligning the beginning of the roll using the cut marks of the label tape detected by the tape dispenser 66's cut mark sensors.

[0097] The treated tape start can then be guided by the handling tool 62 to the connector 44, which connects the tape start to a tape end of another, used or partially used label roll.

[0098] Preferably, the tape dispenser 66 can be the only tape dispenser of the supply unit 24. The tape from the tape dispenser 66 can therefore be used for all connectors 44 or roll holders 36, 38. Alternatively, for example, there could be one tape dispenser per connector 44.

[0099] With renewed reference to the Fig. 1 and Fig. Figure 2 shows that the test device 68 can, for example, be a stationary test device. Alternatively, the test device 68 can, for example, be mounted on the robot 52.

[0100] The test device 68 can be configured to check a label roll with respect to a winding direction, a position of a tape start, a condition of a tape start (preliminary check to see if the tape start can be successfully picked up (thus avoiding a time-critical disruption later during roll change)), a type, a diameter, a deviation from a specified roll parameter (e.g., label overhang above core, dimensions, weight, etc.) and / or damage.

[0101] The test device 68 can include any suitable sensor technology for testing. For example, the test device 68 can include a camera, a capacitive sensor and / or an ultrasonic sensor.

[0102] Tested label rolls can then be placed, for example, by robot 52 onto a label roll buffer 70. From the label roll buffer 70, robot 52 can load at least one roll handling device 36, 38 with tested label rolls.

[0103] The label roll buffer 70 can be arranged within the optional protective enclosure 28. For example, the label roll buffer 70 can be designed as a worktable on which the tested label rolls can be placed. However, it is also possible, for example, that the label roll buffer 70 is simply a pallet storage location for a pallet loaded with label rolls or another storage location for at least one label roll.

[0104] The supply facility can be particularly preferably designed in a modular fashion (24).

[0105] For example, the belt guide bridge 20 and / or 22 can be constructed from several bridge segment modules. The protective enclosure 28 can be constructed from several wall modules. The roll storage 34 can, for example, be designed as a pallet storage module for a pallet truck and / or as a pallet storage module for an automated guided vehicle. The at least one roll holding device 36, 38 can each be a module. The at least one label tape buffer 48, 50 can each be a module. The robot 52 can be a module. The tool changing station 64, the adhesive tape dispenser 66, the testing device 68 and / or the label roll buffer 70 can each be a module.

[0106] Preferably, each module can have its own control unit. The control units of the modules can be distributed accordingly within the robot cell 26.

[0107] A preferred method for supplying the labeling device 12 may, for example, include one, several or all of the following process steps.

[0108] The robot 52 can pick up a label roll from the roll storage 34 using the roll handling tool 54. The robot 52 can then move the label roll to the inspection device 68. The inspection device 68 can then inspect the label roll. For example, the inspection device can detect the tape end of the label roll and / or the winding direction of the label roll. If necessary, the robot 52 can reverse the label roll using the roll handling tool 54 if the detected winding direction does not correspond to the desired winding direction. The inspected and, if necessary, reversed label roll can then be placed by the robot 52, using the roll handling tool 54, onto the label roll buffer 70 with the tape end preferably aligned as desired. The robot 52 can repeat the previous steps until the label roll buffer 70 is sufficiently filled.

[0109] If required, the robot 52 can remove an empty or partially used label roll from one of the roll holders 40 or 42. The roll core can be disposed of. A partially used label roll can be placed in a separate location.

[0110] The robot 52 can use the roll handling tool 54 to place a new label roll, e.g. from the label roll buffer 70, onto one of the roll holders 40, 42, preferably with a desired orientation of the tape start.

[0111] The robot 52 can switch from the roll handling tool 54 to the tape start handling tool 62, for example, at the tool change station 64. The tape start handling tool 62 can pick up the tape start of the label roll. If necessary, the outermost layer of label tape can be unwound from the label roll and picked up by the tape start handling tool 62. The picked-up tape start can be fed by the robot 52 to the tape dispenser 66 using the tape start handling tool 62. At the tape dispenser 66, the correct position for applying the adhesive strip can be determined by means of cut mark detection on the label tape, and the strip can then be applied. The robot 52 can then move the processed tape start to the connector 44 using the tape start handling tool 62.The label tape can be cut from the connector 44 or the tape start handling tool 62 and transferred from the tape start handling tool 62 to the connector 44. The robot 52 can dispose of the remaining label tape still attached to the tape start handling tool 62. The robot 52 can then move from the tape start handling tool 62 back to the roll handling tool 54, for example, at the tool change station 64.

[0112] The Fig. Figure 5 shows a modified 24' supply facility.

[0113] For example, the roller receptacles 40', 42' of the roller receptacle devices 36', 38' can be vertically oriented. More than two roller receptacles 40', 42' can also be included per roller receptacle device 36', 38'. Preferably, the roller receptacles 40', 42' are designed as drawers.

[0114] For example, each roll holder 36', 38' can have its own tape dispenser. The robot 52 can load one of the roll holders 40', 42' with a label roll. The robot 52, or another device, can pick up the end of this label roll and place it in a holding device on the roll holder 36', 38'. The tape can be applied to the respective roll holder 36', 38' and the tape dispenser by means of a device, without any intervention from the robot 52. The adhesive bonding can then be achieved using a connector.
