Abstract
Description
AREA OF INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a partition wall for a washroom arrangement in a cabin of an aircraft, to a washroom arrangement for an aircraft cabin, to a kit for converting a washroom arrangement with two adjacent washrooms into a PRM-suitable enlarged washroom, to a cabin for an aircraft, to an aircraft and to a method for converting a washroom arrangement for an aircraft cabin. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] In addition to passenger seats, aircraft cabins are equipped with other facilities related to passenger transport. Besides galleys for preparing food and drinks for in-flight service, lavatories are also installed to provide sanitary facilities for passengers. To maximize the space available for passenger seating, lavatories are generally kept as small as possible. However, when transporting passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs), particularly those using wheelchairs, a more spacious lavatory is required. For example, WO 2011 / 101385 A2 describes a lavatory with two toilet cubicles separated by a movable partition. The partition wall can be moved into an open position, so that the two washrooms form one larger room better suited for PRM (Personal Recovery Method). However, it has become apparent that there is a growing demand for further optimization of the available space. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] Therefore, there may be a need to provide washrooms with improved use of the available space.
[0004] The object of the present invention is achieved by the subject matter of the independent claims; further embodiments are contained in the dependent claims. It should be noted that the aspects of the invention described below also apply to the partition for a lavatory arrangement in an aircraft cabin, to the lavatory arrangement for an aircraft cabin, to the kit for converting a lavatory arrangement with two adjoining lavatories into a PRM-compatible enlarged lavatory, to the cabin for an aircraft, to the aircraft, and to the method for converting a lavatory arrangement for an aircraft cabin.
[0005] According to the present invention, a partition wall is provided for a lavatory arrangement in an aircraft cabin. The partition wall comprises a primary wall panel, a secondary wall panel, and a mounting arrangement. The primary wall panel is configured to be fixedly positioned between a first and a second lavatory of a dual lavatory arrangement. The secondary wall panel is configured to be removablely positioned between the first and the second lavatory, such that in a fixed first position, the secondary wall panel and the primary wall panel provide a separation between the first and the second lavatory. The secondary wall panel is movable to a released second position outside the lavatory arrangement, in which the separation between the first and the second lavatory is eliminated. The fastening arrangement is configured to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel in the first position to at least one of the group comprising a washroom enclosure and the primary wall panel.
[0006] This allows the washroom to be easily converted while ensuring maximum space utilization within the enlarged shared washroom.
[0007] According to one example, the fastening arrangement is configured to detachably attach the secondary wall panel in the second position to, for example, a side of the washroom enclosure facing the cubicle and / or another monument inside the cubicle.
[0008] According to the present invention, a lavatory arrangement for an aircraft cabin is provided. The arrangement comprises a first lavatory accessible from an aisle area and a second lavatory accessible from the aisle area. A partition wall according to one of the above examples is arranged between the first lavatory compartment and the second lavatory compartment. In the first position, the partition wall separates the first lavatory compartment from the second lavatory compartment. In the second position, the secondary wall panel is positioned outside the first and second lavatory compartments, with the first and second lavatory compartments providing an enlarged common lavatory area in the second position.
[0009] According to one example, the first washroom is accessible from the corridor via a first door, and the second washroom is accessible from the corridor via a second door. In the second position, the secondary wall panel is arranged to extend, for example, from the washroom compartment to a monument located on the opposite side of the corridor, thus providing an additional space in front of the first or second door, separated from an adjacent corridor or seating area, with the additional space serving as an extension to the common washroom.
[0010] According to one example, the secondary wall panel is attached in the second position to an open distal edge of the first or second washroom door.
[0011] According to the present invention, a kit is also provided for converting a washroom arrangement with two adjoining washrooms into an enlarged washroom suitable for persons with reduced mobility (PRM). The kit includes a partition wall according to one of the examples above, configured to replace an existing rigid partition wall between the two adjoining washrooms. The kit also includes a primary fitting for permanently installing the primary wall panel within the washroom arrangement.
[0012] According to one example, the partition wall fastening arrangement includes at least one retaining device configured to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel in the second position to a structure such as a cubicle-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or another monument inside the cubicle.
[0013] According to the present invention, a cabin for an aircraft is also provided. The cabin has at least one passenger seating area with a plurality of passenger seats, at least one aisle area to allow movement of the passengers within the cabin, and at least one lavatory monument. The at least one lavatory monument has at least one lavatory arrangement according to one of the examples above.
[0014] According to the present invention, an aircraft is also provided. The aircraft has a fuselage and a cabin space arranged within the fuselage. Within the cabin space, i) at least one lavatory arrangement according to one of the above examples or ii) an aircraft cabin according to one of the above examples is provided.
[0015] According to the present invention, a method for converting a washroom arrangement for an aircraft cabin is also provided. The method comprises the following steps: - Arranging a washroom layout comprising a first washroom accessible from a corridor area via a first door, and a second washroom accessible from the corridor area via a second door; a partition wall is arranged between the first washroom and the second washroom; - Release of a fastening arrangement that detachably fastens the secondary wall panel in the first position to at least one of the group comprising: a washroom enclosure and the primary wall panel; and - Moving a secondary wall panel of the partition from a first position in which the partition separates the first washroom from the second washroom to a second position in which the secondary wall panel is located outside the first and second washrooms, with the second position providing an enlarged common washroom for the first and second washrooms.
[0016] According to one aspect, the present invention relates to the conversion of a partition between two adjacent lavatories in an aircraft to provide a larger, shared lavatory. The partition is a movable wall that fulfills two different functions at two different locations.
[0017] According to one aspect, a double washroom with two toilet cubicles is provided, which can be converted into a larger washroom with more space by moving part of a partition wall between the two toilet cubicles outside the washroom and enclosing a corridor outside the washroom to make this space usable as additional private space. This not only provides the space of the two toilet cubicles for passengers with reduced mobility, for example, but also creates additional space.
[0018] One technical advantage is that no special folding mechanism is required for the partition within the washroom. Furthermore, the free movement of the wall panel outside the washroom prevents it from obstructing objects and space inside. The removable partition panel can be fitted with a relatively simple removal mechanism.
[0019] One economic advantage is that the removable partition creates additional private space in the aircraft when used in PRM mode. Current aircraft layouts can be maintained without sacrificing seating for a PRM-compliant lavatory, even while complying with DOT2 regulations.
[0020] The removable wall panel is easy for staff to use and provides a more stable, reliable and lighter solution compared to folding or sliding mechanisms.
[0021] According to one approach, a partition separating two adjacent washrooms can be partially or completely detached from the washroom enclosure and moved outside the washroom. Outside the washroom, it could be attached on one side to the open washroom door and on the other side of a corridor to another cabin module, such as a partition, galley, or washroom. The result of this "stowed" position of the partition is additional private space, which is advantageous for PRM (Personalized Rescue Management) use.
[0022] As an option, the removable partition can be fitted with a hinge to make it foldable for easier handling and to compensate for tolerances in "visual barrier" mode.
[0023] According to one design principle, a washroom partition wall consists of two panels, one of which is removable. In a first, common scenario, the partition wall is closed, creating two separate washrooms. In this state, the second wall panel is attached to the washroom enclosure. In a transitional state, the second wall panel is detached from the washroom enclosure, folded, and removed from the washroom. In a second state, the second wall panel is detached from the washroom enclosure and attached to an open washroom door on one side and to a cabin module on the outside, such as a partition wall, a galley, or another washroom. For use by people with reduced mobility, both washroom doors can be closed, or one of them can be opened.
[0024] These and other aspects of the present invention are illustrated and explained with reference to the embodiments described below. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0025] Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below with reference to the following drawings: Fig. Figure 1a schematically shows a horizontal section of an example of a partition wall for a lavatory layout in an aircraft cabin. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EXECUTION FORMS
[0026] Certain embodiments are now described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, the same reference numerals for identical elements are used across different drawings. The concepts defined in the description, such as detailed constructions and elements, serve to provide a comprehensive understanding of the exemplary embodiments. Furthermore, known functions or constructions are not described in detail, as this would clutter the embodiments with unnecessary details. Additionally, expressions such as "at least one of" when preceding a list of elements refer to the entire list of elements and not to the individual elements within it.
[0027] Fig. Figures 1a and 1b schematically show an example of a partition 10 for a lavatory arrangement in an aircraft cabin. The partition 10 comprises a primary wall panel 12, a secondary wall panel 14, and a mounting assembly 16. The primary wall panel 12 is configured to be fixedly positioned between a first lavatory L1 and a second lavatory L2 of a dual lavatory arrangement. The secondary wall panel 14 is configured to be removablely positioned between the first and second lavatories L1 and L2, such that in a fixed first position P1, the secondary wall panel 14 and the primary wall panel 12 provide separation between the first and second lavatories L1 and L2. The secondary wall panel 14 is movable to a released second position P2 outside the lavatory arrangement, in which the separation between the first and second lavatories L1 and L2 is removed. The fastening arrangement 16 is configured to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel 14 in the first position P1 to at least one of the group consisting of: a washroom enclosure and the primary wall panel 12.
[0028] Fig. Figures 1a / 1b show a horizontal section of partition wall 10. For better understanding, the washroom arrangement with the first and second washrooms L1, L2 is also shown.
[0029] Fig. Figure 1a shows the secondary wall panel 14 in the fixed first position P1.
[0030] Fig. Figure 1b shows the secondary wall panel 14 in the released second position P2 outside the washroom arrangement; the separation of the adjacent washrooms is eliminated, and an enlarged shared washroom LC is provided. An intermediate position during the free movement of the secondary wall panel 14 from the first position P1 to the second position P2 is also shown with a dashed line.
[0031] The term “primary wall panel” refers to a portion of the partition wall 10 that is configured to remain in place. The primary wall panel 12 may also be referred to as the main wall section, fixed wall panel, or fixed wall section.
[0032] The term “secondary wall panel” refers to a portion of the partition wall 10 that is configured to be temporarily removed. The secondary wall panel 14 may also be referred to as a movable wall section, movable wall panel, or movable wall segment.
[0033] The term “fastening assembly” refers to the fittings and connection interfaces arranged for fastening and releasing the secondary wall panel. The fastening assembly 16 can also be referred to as a removable fastening assembly. The fastening assembly 16 has latches, bolts, screws, or other removable or releasable fasteners to hold the secondary wall panel 14 in the first position P1.
[0034] Partition wall 10 can also be referred to as a dividing wall or partition wall. Partition wall 10 can also be referred to as a movable, bi-functional partition wall.
[0035] The secondary wall panel 14 provides a removable partition for washroom monuments.
[0036] In one option of the example from Fig. 1. The fastening arrangement 16 is configured to mount the secondary wall panel 14 in the second position P2 on at least one of the group comprising: a cabin-facing side of the washroom enclosure and another monument inside the cabin (see also Fig. 6a-c) to be detachably attached.
[0037] The secondary wall panel 14 thus partially encloses, or at least separates, an additional space in front of the washroom for use by a PRM when the washroom is in use.
[0038] Furthermore, in one example, the fastening arrangement 16 is configured to detachably connect the secondary wall panel 14 at one end to the side of the washroom enclosure facing the cubicle or to another monument within the cubicle, perpendicular to the aisle in front of the washroom. In another example, the fastening arrangement 16 is configured to detachably connect the secondary wall panel 14 at its other end to the other side, i.e., to the monument or to the side of the washroom enclosure facing the cubicle.
[0039] The connection of the secondary wall panel 14 to the washroom enclosure can be made either directly outside the washroom enclosure or indirectly via a bridge element, such as an open washroom door.
[0040] In one option, the secondary wall panel 14 is symmetrical along a vertical axis. The term "symmetrical" refers to similar lateral connection and fastening interfaces. In another option, the term "symmetrical" refers to similar connection interfaces for fastening in the first position. This allows the secondary wall panel 14 to be mounted in either orientation and facilitates modifications when converting the washroom from the second scenario, e.g., an enlarged shared washroom with or without a separate room in front of the doorway, to the first scenario, e.g., dual washroom use. In yet another option, the term "symmetrical" also refers to similar connection interfaces for mounting in the second position.
[0041] Fig. Figure 2a shows another example of the partition wall 10 in the first position P1. The secondary wall panel 14 has a first panel segment 20 and a second panel segment 22. The first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are movably connected to each other.
[0042] Fig. 2b shows the example from Fig. 2a with the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 of the secondary wall panel 14 in the second position P2. Additionally, an intermediate position during the free movement of the secondary wall panel 14 from the first position P1 to the second position P2 is also shown with a dashed line.
[0043] The term "panel segments" refers to parts of the secondary wall panel 14 that form the removable part of the partition wall 10. In one option, more than two, i.e., three, four, five or more panel segments are provided.
[0044] In one example, the secondary wall panel 14 has three or more panel segments that are connected to each other, for example, by pivots.
[0045] In a first option, the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are permanently connected when the secondary wall panel 14 is moved from the first position P1 to the second position P2 and vice versa.
[0046] In one example, the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are connected to each other in a foldable manner, e.g. by a vertical hinge connection.
[0047] The term “vertical hinge connection” refers to a connection that allows movement around a vertical axis when the secondary wall panel 14 is arranged vertically, as in the first position P1.
[0048] In a second option, the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are detachably attached to each other, so that when the secondary wall panel 14 is moved from the first position P1 to the second position P2 and vice versa, the two or more panel segments are handled separately.
[0049] In one example, the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are detachably connected along a vertical axis.
[0050] According to an example, the first panel segment 20 and the second panel segment 22 are symmetrical along a vertical axis of the vertical hinge.
[0051] The term "symmetrical" refers to similar dimensions to allow for folding. In one option, "symmetrical" refers to similar connection interfaces for assembly in the first position. In another option, "symmetrical" also refers to similar connection interfaces for assembly in the second position.
[0052] The term "vertical axis" refers to a virtual line that can coincide with the pivot / rotation axis.
[0053] Fig. 3 and Fig. Figure 4 shows a horizontal section or a top view of an example of a lavatory arrangement 100 for an aircraft cabin. The arrangement 100 has a first lavatory 102 and a second lavatory 104. The first lavatory 102 is accessible from an aisle 106. The second lavatory 104 is also accessible from the aisle 106. An example of the partition 10, as shown in one of the examples above, is arranged between the first lavatory 102 and the second lavatory 104. In the first position P1, the partition 10 separates the first lavatory 102 from the second lavatory 104. In the second position P2, the secondary wall panel is positioned outside the first lavatory compartment 102 and outside the second lavatory compartment 104. In the second position P2, the first lavatory compartment 102 and the second lavatory compartment 104 provide an enlarged common lavatory 108.
[0054] As an example, both washrooms are designed with a toilet and a sink. However, other washroom configurations are also possible.
[0055] In the example of Fig. In section 3, the secondary wall panel 14 is provided as a single panel segment. The second position P2 of the secondary wall panel 14 outside the washroom is shown with a dashed line.
[0056] In the example of Fig. In section 4, the secondary wall panel 14 is provided as a dual panel segment. The second position P2 of the secondary wall panel 14 outside the washroom is also shown with a dashed line.
[0057] The washroom configuration 100 serves as a bi-functional washroom. In one scenario, the washroom configuration 100 provides a dual washroom for individual use by two passengers. In a second scenario, the washroom configuration 100 provides a single washroom for use by only one passenger, for example, a passenger / person with reduced mobility.
[0058] In one option, the two washroom compartments are designed so that the toilets are offset from each other in their distance to the entrance side.
[0059] In one example, the at least one corridor area 106 has at least one corridor arranged longitudinally. The first and second washroom compartments are accessible from the corridor.
[0060] One example provides for an entry zone located next to an aircraft door (see also Fig. 6a-c); the entry zone has an entry corridor. The first and second washroom compartments are accessible from the entry corridor.
[0061] For example, the enlarged shared washroom is designed for use by passengers with reduced mobility.
[0062] The term "washroom compartment" refers to an enclosed space containing washroom facilities such as a toilet, urinal, sink, mirror, and / or waste bin. The washroom compartment may also be called a washroom, toilet room, restroom, or passenger service area. It may also be referred to as a toilet room.
[0063] The term "aisle area" refers to parts of the cabin designated for passenger and crew access, movement on board, and the movement of service equipment such as serving carts. The aisle area typically adjoins seating areas with passenger seats. The aisle area may also be referred to as a corridor layout.
[0064] The term "partition wall" refers to a wall that separates the spaces of the first and second washroom compartments, i.e., the first and second toilet cubicles. Initially used as a partition, the wall acts as a divider. Once removed, it functions as an integrator or connector, joining the two smaller washroom compartments to create a larger, shared space. The partition wall is thus a bi-functional washroom wall. The term "bi-functional" refers to the wall's ability to be moved between two positions to serve two different purposes.
[0065] The term "first position" refers to a primary or main position for using the washrooms. The first position, P1, can also be described as a dual toilet usage position.
[0066] The term "second position" refers to a secondary or additional position for using the washrooms. The second position, P2, can also be referred to as the PRM toilet usage position.
[0067] The term "shared washroom" refers to the enlarged toilet room in which both toilets are enclosed, but only one is actually usable.
[0068] The term "outside the washroom arrangement" refers to the fact that the secondary wall panel is moved out of the interior and in front of the enclosure of the washroom arrangement.
[0069] In the second position P2, the bi-functional partition wall is moved to a position outside the washroom arrangement 100.
[0070] The enlarged shared lavatory is configured for use by passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), such as wheelchair users. For a PRM to use the lavatory, transfers from their wheelchair to a toilet seat and back to their wheelchair must be possible. In addition to extra grab bars and handholds throughout the cabin, more space must be provided for this scenario. Space for an attendant may also be required for a PRM to use the lavatory.
[0071] To save space, the washroom compartments are configured for standard use, allowing for a space-saving arrangement. However, these are too small for PRM use. To provide larger washroom compartments suitable for PRM use, two washroom compartments will be connected by removing the partition wall. Instead of folding and storing the wall sections within the washroom, the wall will be removed from the washroom compartment and reattached in a different position. This will maximize the available space within the washroom compartment.
[0072] The enlarged shared washroom allows for the use of a wheelchair. Furthermore, the enlarged shared washroom offers space for an accompanying person.
[0073] In one option, at least one of the first and second washroom compartments has a toilet.
[0074] In one example, the first washroom has a toilet; the second washroom may have additional equipment such as a sink, a urinal, a table, or the like.
[0075] In another example, the first washroom has a toilet and the second washroom also has a toilet.
[0076] Additionally, the first or second washroom, or both, may have a washbasin. Optionally, a urinal may be provided in addition to a toilet in one or both of the first and second washrooms.
[0077] Fig. Figure 5 schematically shows an example of a kit 50 for converting a washroom arrangement with two adjoining washrooms into a PRM-compliant enlarged washroom. The kit 50 includes an example of the partition wall 10 according to one of the examples above, configured to replace an existing rigid partition between the two adjoining washrooms. Furthermore, the kit includes a primary fitting 52 for permanently installing the primary wall panel 10 in the washroom arrangement.
[0078] The term “primary fitting” refers to the arrangement of fittings and connection interfaces that provide the fastening of the primary wall panel.
[0079] In one option, the kit 50 includes the secondary wall panel 14, while the primary wall panel is provided by an existing panel segment of the washroom partition.
[0080] Kit 50 allows a fixed wall to be replaced, transforming the washroom into a larger space, at least temporarily, to accommodate an assisted PRM transfer from a wheelchair to a toilet seat. Kit 50 can be offered as a retrofit kit or as a modification during cabin installation.
[0081] The removable partition wall can be completely detached from the washroom enclosure and moved outside the washroom. This movable wall panel serves as a visual barrier outside the washroom, creating additional privacy in front of the washroom structure.
[0082] In one option of the example from Fig. 5 The fastening arrangement 16 of the partition 10 has at least one retaining device 54 configured to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel 14 in the second position P2 to a cabin-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or another monument inside the cabin.
[0083] The term "holding device" refers to an arrangement of fittings and connection interfaces that provide the movable fastening of the secondary wall panel.
[0084] The retaining device includes, for example, latches, bolts, screws, or other releasable or removable fasteners to hold the secondary wall panel in the second position. In one example, the retaining device is configured to be attached to the secondary wall panel 14. In another example, the retaining device is configured to be attached to the cubicle-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or another monument within the cubicle. In yet another example, the retaining device is configured to be attached to both the secondary wall panel 14 and the cubicle structure in the form of the cubicle-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or another monument within the cubicle.
[0085] The Fig. 6a, Fig. 6b and Fig. Figure 6c shows another example of the washroom arrangement 100.
[0086] In Fig. 6a, the secondary wall panel 14 is located outside the washroom compartment in a corridor area in front of the washrooms. Fig. 6b, the secondary wall panel 14 is temporarily attached to a monument or other fixed structure perpendicular to the passageway. Fig. 6c The secondary wall panel 14 is also temporarily attached to the monument or other fixed structure, while a washroom door is open and connected to the fixed wall segment 14 with its free door leaf end. An anteroom is enclosed, providing additional space for the user of the washroom, e.g., a PRM passenger.
[0087] In one option, the partition, when fully extended, is not connected to the cabin-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or the monument before being removably attached to the cabin-facing side of the washroom enclosure and / or the monument.
[0088] According to one example, the first washroom 102 is accessible from the corridor area via a first door 110, and the second washroom 104 is accessible from the corridor area via a second door 112. In the second position P2, the secondary wall panel 14 is arranged such that it extends from the washroom compartment 102 to a monument 114 provided on the opposite side of the corridor area 106, thus providing an additional room 116 in front of the first or second door, separated from an adjacent corridor or seating area, with the additional room serving as an extension to the common washroom.
[0089] The extension provides a kind of anteroom for the enlarged washroom compartment.
[0090] In one example, the fastening arrangement 16 is configured to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel 14 in the second position P2 to at least one of the group having a cabin-facing side of the washroom enclosure and another monument inside the cabin, so that the additional space 116 is provided in front of the first or second door 110, 112 separate from an adjacent aisle or seating area, the additional space being provided as an extension to the common washroom.
[0091] The term “removable fastening” refers to the fastening of the secondary wall panel 14 in a releasable manner in order to be able to remove the secondary wall panel 14, i.e. to move the secondary wall panel 14 from the second position P2 back to the first position P1.
[0092] The term "cabin-facing side" refers to an exterior area of the lavatory enclosure that faces the cabin interior, e.g., an aisle area adjacent to lavatory assembly 100. The aisle area, or aisle region, can be an aisle segment running perpendicular to the direction of flight, e.g., an aisle segment connecting a main aisle running in the direction of flight to an aircraft door. The aisle area, or aisle region, can also be an aisle segment running parallel to the direction of flight.
[0093] The term "other monument" refers to a different structure located within the cabin. This other monument could be another lavatory, a galley structure, a storage space, a partition, a wall behind a row of seats, or the like.
[0094] The term "door" refers to a movable part that allows access to a washroom.
[0095] For example, aisle 106 is located next to an aircraft door 118. Aisle 106 is therefore also used as an entry / exit area. However, during flight, aisle 106 can be used for other purposes.
[0096] For example, the secondary wall panel 14 can be connected to the side of the washroom enclosure facing the cubicle and to another monument inside the cubicle by at least one retaining device of the fastening arrangement 16 of the partition wall 10. The retaining device is designed to detachably fasten the secondary wall panel 14 in the second position P2 to the side of the washroom enclosure facing the cubicle and to the other monument inside the cubicle.
[0097] The secondary wall panel 14 at least partially encloses part of the corridor area 106 in front of the washroom arrangement 100, thereby providing the additional separate room as an extension to the common washroom.
[0098] For example, the additional separate room is intended as an extension to the shared washroom for use by passengers with reduced mobility.
[0099] The term "enlargement" refers to an additional part of the room that increases the available space.
[0100] The separate room is intended as a private space.
[0101] To convert from the first position P1 to the second position P2, the partition 10 is partially removed from the washroom assembly 100 into the aisle in front of the first and second doors. The movable part of the partition 10 is either completely removed and then folded up, or folded up in stages, then removed, and subsequently at least partially unfolded.
[0102] In the first position P1, the two wall panels of the partition 10 are arranged straight and form a straight wall panel. In the second position P2, the two wall panels of the partition 10 are arranged at an angle or folded, forming an angled or folded panel.
[0103] In the second position P2, the partition wall 10 extends from the washroom assembly 100 to a monument located on the opposite side of the aisle. To reach the second position P2, the secondary wall panel 14, when completely removed, is movable to a location outside the washroom. In the second position P2, the secondary wall panel 14 is connected with one vertical lateral edge to the monument perpendicular to the aisle and with the other vertical lateral edge to a section of the washroom assembly 100 located on a lateral side of the first or second door, thus providing an enlarged additional space in front of the first and second doors, separated from an adjacent aisle or seating area. This additional space serves as an extension of the common washroom.
[0104] The side of the first or second door refers to a location on one side of the door opposite a location between the two doors.
[0105] Instead of storing the movable wall panel of the partition within the washroom monument, the removed wall panel is taken out and fixed in such a way as to create additional space for the PRM attendant outside the washroom, in addition to a shared, enlarged washroom compartment.
[0106] The monument can be a partition, a galley, a washroom, or a storage space.
[0107] In one option, the secondary wall panel 14 is temporarily locked to the monument provided on the opposite side.
[0108] The term "aisle area" refers to the space in the cabin used for the movement of passengers and crew. The aisle area refers to the main aisles, which are usually arranged longitudinally in an aircraft, for example, one, two, or more aisles separating two or more seating areas. The aisle area also refers to the transverse aisle sections that connect different main aisles or provide access to aircraft doors, galley sections and lavatories, the cockpit door, and internal stairs on board the aircraft.
[0109] In one example, the washroom door opens outwards, i.e. towards the hallway.
[0110] As an option, the restroom door opens in such a way that, in a potential emergency, it does not open against a flow of evacuated passengers, who would then run into the blocking door. Instead, the door opens in the direction of the passenger flow, so that the flow would close the restroom door again.
[0111] In another example, the washroom door is a folding door that folds inside the door opening.
[0112] In another example, the washroom door opens inwards, i.e. towards the washroom.
[0113] As an option, it shows Fig. 6c, that in the second position P2 the secondary wall panel 14 is attached to an open distal edge 120 of the first or the second door.
[0114] The term "distal edge" refers to the edge of the door that is opposite the edge connected to a door frame via hinges. The distal edge is the free end or free edge of the door when the door is open.
[0115] In one option, the secondary wall panel 14 is attached to an open distal edge of the washroom door that is farther from the outer hull structure. The door farther from the outer hull structure can be referred to as the first washroom door. The washroom door closer to the outer hull structure can be referred to as the second washroom door. The second washroom door can be opened in such a way that the second door closes the doorway of the first door.
[0116] The door may be hinged at an outer side corner section of the washroom.
[0117] In one option, the door is hinged at a central section of the washroom between the two openings for the two washroom doors.
[0118] An additional curtain segment is provided as an option to close off an area above the open door and above the secondary wall panel 14.
[0119] Fig. Figure 7 shows an example of a cabin 200 for an aircraft. The cabin 200 has at least one passenger seating area 202 with a plurality of passenger seats. The cabin 200 also has at least one aisle area 204 to allow movement of passengers within the cabin. The cabin 200 further has at least one lavatory monument 206. The at least one lavatory monument 206 has at least one example of the lavatory arrangement 100 according to one of the examples above. The lavatory arrangement 100 has an example of the partition 10 between two adjacent lavatories.
[0120] As an option, the washroom arrangement 100 is located near an aircraft door 208, for example a rear door.
[0121] The term "passenger seating area" refers to the parts of the cabin where seats are provided for passengers.
[0122] The term "aisle area" refers to the parts of the cabin that serve as corridors for movement on board the aircraft.
[0123] The term "washroom monument" refers to monuments and other arrangements in the cabin that provide toilet functions on board the aircraft.
[0124] Fig. Figure 7 also shows an example of an aircraft 300. The aircraft 300 has a fuselage 302 and a cabin compartment 304 arranged within the fuselage 302. Within the cabin compartment, at least one example of the lavatory arrangement 100 according to one of the examples above, or the aircraft cabin 200 according to the examples above, is provided.
[0125] In one option, the washroom arrangement 100 is located next to a rear door of the aircraft, e.g. near a pressure bulkhead of the fuselage.
[0126] Fig. Figure 8 shows basic steps of an example of Procedure 400 for converting a lavatory layout for an aircraft cabin. Procedure 400 includes the following steps: - In a first step 402, a washroom arrangement is arranged, comprising a first washroom accessible from a corridor area via a first door, and a second washroom accessible from the corridor area via a second door; a partition wall is arranged between the first washroom and the second washroom. - In a second step 404, a fastening arrangement is released which holds the secondary wall panel detachably in the first position on at least one of the group comprising a washroom enclosure and the primary wall panel. - In a third step 406, a secondary wall panel of the partition wall is moved from a first position, in which the partition wall separates the first washroom room from the second washroom room, to a second position, in which the secondary wall panel is located outside the first and second washroom rooms, with the second position providing an enlarged common washroom for the first washroom room and the second washroom room.
[0127] In one example of the procedure, the step of moving the partition into the second position results in at least a partial enclosure of part of the aisle area in front of the washroom arrangement, thereby providing an additional separate space as an extension to the common washroom for use by passengers with reduced mobility.
