[0001] The present disclosure claims priority from Chinese patent application No. 202410821915.2, filed on June 24, 2024, entitled “FASTENER”, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. TECHNICAL AREA

[0002] The present disclosure relates to a fastening element for a vehicle, a fastening arrangement comprising the fastening element, and a vehicle comprising the fastening arrangement. BACKGROUND

[0003] During the vehicle assembly process, fasteners can connect multiple components, such as the interior components, frame, and body panels of a vehicle. Typically, a first component is initially connected to the fastener to form a pre-assembled unit. This unit is then fitted into a corresponding hole or groove on the second component, thus connecting the first and second components. SUMMARY OF THE REVELATION

[0004] The inventor of the present disclosure has, after a long period of observation and testing, found that with some existing fasteners, due to design features and / or tolerances arising from manufacturing and / or assembly processes, it can be difficult to connect the fastener to the first component and / or to achieve an effective seal between them.

[0005] According to a first aspect of the present disclosure, a fastening element is provided for connecting to a first component and a second component. The fastening element comprises a support section and a first connecting section. The support section is essentially plate-shaped. The first connecting section extends substantially along an axis of the fastening element and comprises a side wall section and a sealing section. The side wall section extends from an edge of the support section in a direction away from the support section. The sealing section extends from an outside surface of the side wall section away from the side wall section and in the direction of the support section without exceeding the support section. The sealing section extends continuously in the circumferential direction of the side wall section. The sealing section is elastic.

[0006] In some embodiments, the sealing section comprises a base connected to the side wall section and a distal end extending away from the side wall section. The thickness of the sealing section gradually decreases from the base towards the distal end.

[0007] In some embodiments, the sealing section comprises a radially outer surface and a radially inner surface. The radially outer surface extends obliquely outward toward the support section and away from the axis, or runs substantially parallel to the axis. The radially inner surface extends obliquely outward toward the support section and away from the axis.

[0008] In some embodiments, the first connecting section comprises a plurality of sealing sections. The plurality of sealing sections are arranged spaced apart along the axis.

[0009] In some embodiments, the side wall section preferably extends obliquely outwards in a direction away from the support section and away from the axis.

[0010] In some embodiments, the fastening element further comprises a second connecting section. The second connecting section is connected to the support section and extends substantially along the axis. The support section has opposing first and second sides, with the first connecting section located on the first side, the second connecting section located on the second side, and the second connecting section configured to interact with the support section to clamp the first and second components.

[0011] In some embodiments, the fastening element is formed in one piece from a thermoplastic material.

[0012] According to a second aspect of the present disclosure, a fastening arrangement is provided for attachment to a second component. The fastening arrangement comprises the fastening element according to the first aspect and a first component. The first component is connected to the fastening element and includes a sealing counterpart. The fastening arrangement has a fastened state in which the sealing counterpart presses against the sealing component to elastically deform the sealing component, thereby forming a seal between the fastening element and the first component.

[0017] The following describes various specific embodiments of the present disclosure with reference to the drawings that form part of this patent specification. It is understood that, although terms such as "front," "rear," "upper / upper / upper," "lower / lower / lower," "left," "right," "top," and "bottom" are used in the present disclosure to describe components and elements in various examples, these terms are used here only for the sake of clarity and are determined based on the exemplary orientations shown in the accompanying drawings. Since the arrangements disclosed in the present disclosure can exist in several directions in the embodiments, these directional indications are merely illustrative and should not be considered as limitations.

[0018] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a fastening element for connecting a first component and a second component, such as connecting an interior trim panel of a vehicle to a sheet metal part, and which is capable of forming a seal between the fastening element and the first component.

[0019] The Fig. Figures 1A to 1D show the specific structure of a fastening element 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. 1A is a perspective view of the fastening element 100 from a perspective, Fig. 1B is a perspective view of the fastening element 100 of Fig. 1A from a different perspective, Fig. 1C is a front view of the fastener 100 from Fig. 1A and Fig. 1D is a sectional view of the fastener 100 from Fig. 1A along line AA from Fig. 1C.

[0020] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the fastening element 100 comprises a support section 110, a first connecting section 150, a second connecting section 130, and an actuating section 180. The support section 110 is essentially circular and has a central axis X1 of the fastening element 100 as its axis. In the axial direction of the support section 110, it has opposing first and second sides 111 and 112, the surfaces of which both extend radially with respect to the support section 110. The first connecting section 150 is located on the first side 111. The first connecting section 150 is connected to the circumferential edge 113 of the support section 110 and extends essentially along the central axis X1 away from the support section 110.The second connecting section 130 is connected to a central area of the second side 112 of the support section 110 and extends substantially along the central axis X1 from both the support section 110 and the first connecting section 150. The actuating section 180 is connected to the first side 111 of the support section 110 and is surrounded by the first connecting section 150. In some embodiments, the fastening element 100 is formed in one piece from a thermoplastic material.

[0021] As described in detail below, when using the fastening element 100 to connect the first and second components, the fastening element 100 is first pre-assembled on the first component 210 to form a fastening arrangement 400 (as in Fig. 4A). This fastening assembly 400 is then mounted onto the second component 220 (as shown in the Fig. 5B and Fig. (5C shown), whereby the first component 210 and the second component 220 are firmly connected via the fastener 100. The first connecting section 150 is designed to interact with corresponding parts of the first component 210 to form a seal between the fastener 100 and the first component 210. The second connecting section 130 is designed to be inserted into corresponding bores or slots in the first component 210 and the second component 220 and, in conjunction with the support section 110, to clamp the first component 210 and the second component 220 together. The actuating section 180 is designed to interact with a driving tool (not shown) to actuate (e.g., rotate) the fastener 100.

[0022] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the first connecting section 150 comprises a side wall section 151 and a sealing section 152. The side wall section 151 is connected to the circumferential edge 113 of the support section 110 and extends obliquely outwards from the support section 110 and away from the central axis X1.

[0023] In the illustrated embodiment, the support section 110 is essentially circular plate-shaped, and the side wall section 151 of the first connecting section 150 is essentially hollow and frustoconical. In other embodiments not shown, the side wall section can run essentially parallel to the central axis and form a hollow cylindrical shape, or the support section and the first connecting section can be designed in other shapes.

[0024] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the sealing section 152 is connected to the radially outer side of the side wall section 151 and extends away from the side wall section 151 and towards the support section 110. The sealing section 152 extends continuously around the circumference of the side wall section 151 and is elastic and capable of deforming under pressure to interact with corresponding parts of the first component 210 to form a seal, as will be explained in more detail later. A gap exists between the sealing section 152 and the second side 112 of the support section 110 in the direction of the central axis X1. In other words, the sealing section 152 does not extend beyond the support section 110.

[0025] The sealing section 152 comprises a base 153 connected to the side wall section 151 and a pointed end 154 distal to the side wall section 151. The thickness of the sealing section 152 gradually decreases from the base 153 towards the pointed end 154 to facilitate deformation. In the illustrated embodiment, the radially outer surface 155 of the sealing section 152 extends substantially parallel to the direction of the central axis X1, while the radially inner surface 156 extends obliquely outward towards the support section 110 and away from the central axis X1. In other embodiments not shown, both the radially outer surface 155 and the radially inner surface 156 of the sealing section 152 can extend obliquely outward towards the support section 110 and away from the central axis X1.

[0026] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, in the illustrated embodiment the first connecting section 150 comprises two sealing sections 152 spaced apart in the direction of the central axis X1. In other embodiments not shown, only one sealing section 152 or more than two sealing sections 152 may be provided.

[0027] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the second connecting section 130 comprises a main body section 160, a foot section 140, and two arm sections 170. The main body section 160 extends substantially along the central axis X1 and has axially opposite ends. One end is connected to the support section 110 and the arm sections 170, while the other end is connected to the foot section 140. The arm sections 170 extend from one end of the main body section 160 away from the support section 110.

[0028] As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the foot section 140 comprises two projections 141 that bulge outward away from the central axis X1 with respect to the main body section 160. Each projection 141 has a substantially wedge-shaped structure and includes an inclined surface 142 that is obliquely opposite the support section 110. The thicker and thinner sides of each projection 141 are located on opposite sides of the central axis X1 when viewed from a lateral side of the fastening element 100. The foot section 140 is substantially rotationally symmetric about the central axis X1, with the two projections 141 being located on opposite sides of the foot section 140 and their inclined surfaces 142 having different orientations. The inclined surfaces 142 are designed to work together with the support section 110 to clamp the first component 210 and the second component 220 together, as will be explained in more detail later.

[0029] The arm sections 170 are used to hold the fastening element 100 within the first component 210, as will be explained in more detail later. As in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1A to 1D, the two arm sections 170 are arranged symmetrically around the central axis X1 of the fastening element 100 and offset circumferentially from the two projections 141. Each arm section 170 comprises a fixed section 171 and a movable section 172. The fixed section 171 is connected to the main body section 160. The movable section 172 is spaced from the main body section 160 by a gap and can be deflected towards and away from the main body section 160.

[0030] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 1D, the outer surface of the arm section 170, furthest from the central axis X1, comprises an upper recess 173, a transition section 175, a lower recess 177, and a stop surface 178, which are arranged substantially from top to bottom along the central axis X1. The stop surface 178 extends substantially transversely to the central axis X1 near the free end of the arm section 170 and faces the support section 110. The lower recess 177 is formed between the stop surface 178 and the transition section 175. The upper recess 173 is formed between the support section 110 and the transition section 175. The upper recess 173 includes an upper guide surface 174. The upper guide surface 174 extends obliquely from the upper end of the transition section 175 toward the support section 110 and toward the central axis X1. The lower recess 177 includes a lower guide surface 176.The lower guide surface 176 extends from the lower end of the transition section 175 obliquely away from the support section 110 and in the direction of the central axis X1.

[0031] As described in detail below, once the fastening element 100 has been pre-assembled into the first component 210, it can move axially relative to the first component 210 when the second connecting section 130 is subjected to a corresponding external force. The upper guide surface 174 and the lower guide surface 176 guide corresponding counter-sections of the first component 210 into movement between the upper recess 173 and the lower recess 177. The stop surface 178 prevents the fastening element 100 from detaching from the first component 210.

[0032] Fig. Figure 2 is an exploded view of fastener 100. Fig. 1A with the first component 210 and the second component 220. In one embodiment of the present disclosure, the first component 210 is a vehicle door module and the second component 220 is a vehicle door sheet metal part. To clarify the fastening element 100 of the present disclosure, the structures of the first component 210 and the second component 220 are shown in simplified form in the figures.

[0033] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 2, the fastener 100 is used to connect the first component 210 to the second component 220. The first component 210 has a substantially rectangular first opening 211. The second component 220 has a substantially rectangular second opening 221. To connect the first component 210 and the second component 220, the fastener 100 is first inserted into the first opening 211 of the first component 210, so that the fastener 100 is pre-assembled on the first component 210. The fastener 100, now connected to the first component 210, is then inserted into the second opening 221 of the second component 220.The fastening element 100 is then rotated so that the two inclined surfaces 142 of the foot section 140 rest against the second component 220, thereby firmly connecting the first component 210 and the second component 220 to each other via the fastening element 100.

[0034] Fig. 3A is a perspective view of the first component 210 of Fig. 2 from one perspective. Fig. 3B is a perspective view of the first component 210 in Fig. 3A from a different perspective. As in the Fig. 3A and Fig. As shown in Figure 3B, the first component 210 is essentially plate-shaped and has opposing first and second sides 311, 312. The first opening 211 is essentially rectangular and penetrates the first and second sides 311, 312. The first side 311 includes a flange section 320 that surrounds the first opening 211, which is raised above the surface of the first side 311. The first opening 211 has two longitudinally extending long sides 321 and two laterally extending short sides 323. When the fastener 100 is inserted into the first opening 211, the two long sides 321 each correspond to the two arm sections 170 of the fastener 100.

[0035] The first component 210 further comprises two receiving sections 336, each arranged on the two long sides 321 and connected to the first opening 211. The receiving sections 336 are recessed from the end face of the flange section 320 towards the second side 312 and spaced apart from the second side 312. The receiving sections 336 are designed to receive the arm sections 170 of the fastening element 100. A connecting counterpart 341 is formed between the underside of each receiving section 336 and the second side 312. The connecting counterpart 341 can engage in the upper recess 173 and the lower recess 177 of the arm section 170.

[0036] The first component 210 also includes a sealing counter-section 350, which is connected to the second side 312 of the first component 210 and arranged around the first opening 211. The inner side of the sealing counter-section 350 facing the first opening 211 has an annular wall 351. The size and shape of the annular wall 351 correspond to those of the side wall section 151 of the first connecting section 150 of the fastening element 100. Thus, when the fastening element 100 connects the first component 210 and the second component 220, a small gap is formed between the annular wall 351 and the side wall section 151 of the first connecting section 150, and the sealing counterpart section 350 compresses the sealing section 152 of the first connecting section 150, causing it to deform elastically, thereby forming a seal between the first connecting section 150 and the sealing counterpart section 350.

[0037] Fig. 4A is a sectional view of a fastening arrangement 400, which is formed by pre-assembling the fastening element 100 of Fig. 1A was formed with the first component 210, in a state in which the fastening element 100 is located in a first position within the first component 210. Fig. 4B is a sectional view of the fastening arrangement 400 of Fig. 4A in a different state in which the fastening element 100 is located in a second position within the first component 210.

[0038] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 4A, when the fastener 100 is inserted from the second side 312 of the first component 210 into the first opening 211 of the first component 210 and reaches its first position relative to the first component 210, the first connecting section 150 of the fastener 100 engages in the sealing counterpart 350 of the first component 210. The two connecting counterparts 341 of the first component 210 are each held in the two upper recesses 173 of the fastener 100. The second connecting section 130 of the fastener 100 extends beyond the first side 311 of the first component 210.

[0039] During the process of connecting the fastening assembly 400 to the second component 220, situations may arise in which the second connecting section 130 of the fastening element 100 is not yet aligned with the second opening 221 of the second component 220 and is blocked by the second component 220. If, in this case, a force is applied to bring the first component 210 and the second component 220 closer together, the fastening element 100 moves away from the second component 220 relative to the first component 210.

[0040] As in Fig. 4A and Fig. 4B shows that when the second connecting section 130 of the fastening element 100 is attached to the first in Fig. 4A shows the position of an upward force in the Fig. 4A and Fig. When exposed to the orientation shown in 4B, the arm sections 170 of the second connecting section 130 are pressed inwards by the connecting counterpart sections 341, enabling the transition section 175 of each arm section 170 to move upwards past the connecting counterpart section 341. This allows the fastening element 100 to Fig. The second position shown in 4B is reached. In this position, the two connecting counterparts 341 of the first component 210 are each held in the two lower recesses 177 of the fastening element 100.

[0041] It is noted that if the fastening element 100 moves away from the first position relative to the first component 210, the connecting counterpart 341 can be aligned with any position between the transition section 175 and the lower recess 177. The lower recess 177 is the furthest point that the connecting counterpart 341 can reach.

[0042] In the Fig. In the position shown in Figure 4B, the second connecting section 130 is essentially flush with the first side 311 of the first component 210, thus not impeding the joining of the first component 210 and the second component 220. When the second connecting section 130 is aligned with the second opening 221 of the second component 220, the second connecting section 130 is no longer subjected to the upward force, allowing the fastener 100 to move downward and return to the position where the upper recess 173 of the fastener 100 engages in the connecting counterpart section 341 of the first component 210. At this point, the second connecting section 130 passes through the second opening 221.

[0043] Fig. 5A is a perspective view showing the fastening arrangement 400 of Fig. 4A is inserted into the second component 220, but not yet attached. Fig. 5B is a perspective view showing the fastening arrangement 400 of Fig. 4A is attached to the second component 220. Fig. 5C is a sectional view showing the mounting arrangement 400 of Fig. 4A is attached to the second component 220.

[0044] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5A, when the fastener 100, which is already connected to the first component 210, is just being inserted into the second opening 221 of the second component 220, the inclined surfaces 142 of the fastener 100 are not yet in contact with the surface of the second component 220, and the fastener 100 has not yet locked the first component 210 and the second component 220 together. A driving tool is then used to exert a force on the actuating section 180, causing the fastener 100 to rotate counterclockwise, as indicated by arrow B in Figure 5A. Fig. 5A shown, whereby the fastening element 100 is inserted into the Fig. The first component 210 is brought into the position described in section 5B. In this position, the inclined surfaces 142 rest against the surface of the second component 220, and the first component 210 rests against the second side 112 of the support section 110. This holds the first component 210 and the second component 220 between the inclined surfaces 142 and the support section 110, thus securely connecting them via the fastener 100. Rotating the fastener 100 changes the position in which the inclined surfaces 142 contact the second component 220, thereby pressing the first component 210 and the second component 220 closer to the support section 110. This allows the angle of the fastener 100 to be adjusted to achieve a suitable clamping force between the first component 210 and the second component 220.

[0045] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, the fastening arrangement 400 is in its fastened state when the fastening element 100 securely connects the first component 210 and the second component 220. In comparison to the one shown in Figure 5, the fastening arrangement 400 is in its fastened state when the fastening element 100 securely connects the first component 210 and the second component 220. Fig.In the state shown in Figure 4A, the side wall section 151 of the first connecting section 150 of the fastening element 100 moves closer to the sealing counterpart section 350 of the first component 210, thereby forming a smaller gap between it and the annular wall 351 of the sealing counterpart section 350. The sealing counterpart section 350 of the first component 210 compresses the sealing section 152 of the first connecting section 150, causing it to deform elastically. This forms a seal between the first connecting section 150 and the sealing counterpart section 350, preventing fluid from flowing through the first opening 211 and the second opening 221 on both sides of the first component 210 and the second component 220. Furthermore, the elastic deformation of the sealing section 152 can compensate for tolerances that arise during manufacturing and / or assembly.

[0046] The present disclosure also protects a vehicle comprising the fastening element, the first component and the second component as described above, or the fastening arrangement and the second component as described above.

[0047] The first connecting section of the fastener according to embodiments of the present disclosure comprises an elastic sealing section which deforms slightly elastically under pressure from the connected component in order to form an effective tight connection between the fastener and the connected component. Additionally, the elastic deformation of the sealing section can compensate for manufacturing and / or assembly-related tolerances, thereby making the fastener and the connected component easier to manufacture and assemble.
