Abstract

A fuel cell comprises a membrane electrode assembly, pairs of gas diffusion layers arranged such that the membrane electrode assembly is spaced between them, and pairs of separators arranged such that the pairs of gas diffusion layers are spaced between them. At least one of the separators in a pair has, on a surface facing the gas diffusion layer, a flow path component that causes a reactant gas to flow within it, and a fin component located adjacent to the flow path component and in contact with the gas diffusion layer. The flow path component has a base surface spaced from the gas diffusion layer and a side section connecting the base surface and the fin component. The side section has a groove extending from a junction between the side section and the fin component toward the base surface.
