Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a vanilla bean sales and storage container, hereinafter referred to as container, consisting of a tubular housing for holding at least one dried fermented spiced vanilla bean.
[0002] It is known to offer such spiced vanilla sticks in completely transparent clear glass tubes sealed with a plastic stopper, with usually two spiced vanilla sticks contained in such a tube.
[0003] A disadvantage of this well-known container is that the glass can break, requiring elaborate packaging for transport and storage. Furthermore, empty glass tubes can only be recycled with a high energy expenditure, namely by being melted down at very high temperatures. The small plastic stopper, on the other hand, is often discarded, thus being lost to complete recycling. Additionally, inserting the vanilla spice sticks into the thin tube requires careful handling.
[0004] The object of the invention is to provide a vanilla bean sales and storage container which is very robust, does not require elaborate cardboard or blister packaging and cannot shatter, all components are fully recyclable and which facilitates the insertion of vanilla beans.
[0005] The solution to this problem, in conjunction with the features of the preamble, is achieved according to the invention from the technical features of the characterizing part of the main claim in that the container consists of two tubular housing parts, each of which is closed at one end and is provided at their opposite ends with a closure corresponding to the end of the other housing part, and the housing parts in the assembled state have an internal length dimension which is equal to or greater than the length dimension of a spice vanilla bean.
[0006] Because the container consists of two tubular housing parts, the required total length of the container can be divided in any desired ratio. For example, both housing parts can be the same length, or they can have any other ratio, such as 1 / 3 to 2 / 3 or 1 / 4 to 3 / 4, or any other conceivable and practical ratio. This provides a multitude of possible variations of the inventive container, which can also be further adapted to the required specifications. This is by no means possible with known glass tubes with plastic stopper closures.
[0007] According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the two tubular housing parts are made of plastic, in particular of the same type of plastic. Therefore, if they are made of shatterproof plastic, they are not at risk of splintering under excessive mechanical stress, thus significantly improving safety when handling such an inventive container. Furthermore, such a container is considerably lighter than one made of glass, thus substantially reducing transport costs. It is also advantageous that such a container can be 100% recycled after emptying, enabling complete sorting by material type, and that a recycling process for plastic requires considerably less energy than that for glass.
[0008] Advantageously, the plastic used is made from completely transparent PP or PET, or from recycled R-PP or R-PET, which possess the desired properties.
[0009] The tubular housing parts can advantageously be manufactured with a circular cylindrical cross-section, but depending on requirements and visual preferences, they can also be oval-cylindrical or polygonal, and preferably straight, but also curved and / or arbitrarily shaped, for example, in the form of a vanilla bean, thus opening up a very wide range of possible design variations. Conversely, the possibility of arranging the division of the container at different positions on the container's outer shell advantageously allows the two housing parts to be either the same length or of different lengths, and the division of the container to be located at different positions.
[0010] A particularly advantageous feature of the container according to the invention is that the housing parts have corresponding ring- or disc-shaped axial or radial sealing surfaces in their end-face areas of their closure sides in order to reliably prevent the ingress of air or contaminants.
[0011] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the adjacent areas of the closure of a first, second, or third container are designed as cylindrical rings that project radially beyond the contour of the outer surfaces of the housing parts. When the container is closed, the rings abut each other at their ends, together forming a cylindrical surface for applying a novelty seal in the form of a surrounding film. Such an additional seal, which can also be designed as a label, provides enhanced airtightness of the container and also serves as a warranty seal for the consumer.
[0012] Ideally, one section of the closure consists of a sealing surface formed as the inner surface of one of the rings, while the corresponding section of the closure has several spaced-apart rings with an outer diameter matching the inner diameter of the sealing surface of the corresponding housing part. This sealing geometry, unlike the conceivable method of simply sliding two cylindrical surfaces together, creates a reduced contact area with lower friction, thus significantly improving the closure's ease of release while maintaining an airtight seal. Furthermore, this type of closure allows for high manufacturing flexibility, as the number and size of the sealing surfaces can be easily adjusted. This design also requires tighter manufacturing tolerances and enables quick and easy assembly.Disassembly is permitted, for example because no twisting movements are required to close the container; simply pressing the two housing parts together is sufficient.
[0013] In an advantageous further development of this variant, the opposing end faces of the closure rings are equipped with radially inwardly tapering chamfers. When the container is closed, these chamfers form a groove with the corresponding chamfer of the other housing part. This groove is spanned by the groove seal, which can be solid or perforated and can be permanently separated by a fingernail, a technical aid, or by twisting the two housing parts relative to each other. The closure areas, in this and other snap-together embodiments, do not necessarily have to be cylindrical in cross-section; they can also be oval-cylindrical or polygonal, such as square or even polygonal. This possibility expands the range of conceivable variants by a multitude of possible embodiments.
[0014] In a further advantageous embodiment of this closure, it has at least one inwardly directed locking ring with a convex surface on an end ring around the lateral surface of one end of a housing part, as well as one or more spaced-apart outwardly directed annular grooves with concave groove surfaces at the cylindrical end of the other housing part for receiving the convex locking ring, so that both ends can be easily pressed together and thus a positive locking and sealing is created, which can be easily broken open again at any time by means of manual pulling or bending forces.
[0015] According to a further embodiment of the container, the adjacent areas of the closure are also cylindrical, with one end featuring a ring section projecting beyond the contour of the housing part's outer surface and incorporating at least one inwardly directed locking ring section. The other end has one or more radially outwardly directed annular grooves spaced apart around its outer surface, and both ends can be snapped together so that the locking ring sections engage in the locking grooves, allowing the closure to be manually opened again by applying slight tensile and bending forces. Compared to the aforementioned embodiment, this embodiment requires less material and can advantageously be sealed airtight and dirt-tight, at least around the closure area, using a simple shrink-wrap seal.
[0016] According to a further advantageous embodiment of a container, the closure area has external threaded sections whose threads extend outwards from the outer surface of the housing part. Similarly, the opposing housing part has an annular section projecting beyond the contour of its outer surface, with an internal thread or threaded sections, and a snap ring with inwardly directed locking lugs, which is molded onto the annular section via thin snap tabs. These locking lugs engage behind a circumferential locking ring at the end of the external thread or threaded sections furthest from the opening, thus forming a tamper-evident seal. This variant allows for easy opening and secure closing via the threaded closure and provides optimal air sealing through increased contact pressure of the thread against the existing sealing surfaces.Furthermore, it provides high mechanical strength of the connection, for example against buckling, as well as a familiar original seal via a snap ring, which is also understandable for the end user, as this is one of the most common types of closure.
[0017] In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the closure area of a container is designed as a mutually rotationally aligned closure about a central longitudinal axis of the housing parts, which can be easily broken open by means of manual rotational forces, wherein one end of a housing part has a ring section projecting beyond the contour of its lateral surface with several wedge recesses or other concave recesses directed inwards into the housing part, forming ramp geometries, and in front of it a snap ring with inwards directed locking lugs, and the end of the other housing part has radially projecting cams with which the housing parts align themselves mutually when they are forced together by the cams running onto the wedge recesses.Behind the cams, a circumferential outer locking ring is injection-molded for locking behind an inner locking ring of the ring section, and behind the outer locking ring, a further retaining ring for the inner locking lugs of the snap ring is molded. This embodiment of the container also allows for quick and easy assembly and disassembly and is even simpler and more cost-effective to manufacture than the aforementioned variant. It is also advantageously equipped with a known original seal via a snap ring, with the ramp geometry being particularly beneficial in facilitating the simplified breaking of the original seal by twisting the housing parts against each other.
[0018] According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the closure of a further variant of the container is equipped with a mechanical tamper-evident lock, which consists of a tear-off tab hinged to a ring section via a film strip and a connecting piece spaced apart from the housing part, as well as an angled locking recess open at the end face for the connecting piece. The locking recess has a spring hook which, upon initial closure and axial engagement of the connecting piece into the locking recess, is designed to retract elastically and subsequently locks the housing parts in a form-fitting manner, preventing them from being pulled apart. To overcome the tamper-evident seal and open the container, the tear-off tab, together with the connecting piece, can be torn off the outer surface of the housing part. This creates a tamper-evident lock that is easily recognizable and operable by every consumer.
[0019] Another preferred embodiment of the invention features end faces of the two housing parts that are identical and are provided around their circumference with claw-shaped internal and external threaded sections as well as free sections, so that the two housing parts can be placed together with their end faces and screwed together in opposite directions for closure. This results in easy and quick assembly and disassembly, with the thread pitch enabling a mechanically stable quick-release fastener. A particularly noteworthy advantage of this embodiment is its simple and cost-effective manufacturing, since each container consists of two identical housing parts, thus making their production significantly more cost-effective, as only a single injection mold is required for both housing parts.

[0021] The container 1-8 consists of two tubular housing parts 10-20, each closed at one end and provided at their opposite end with a closure 21-26 corresponding to the end of the other housing part 10-20, and which in the assembled state have an internal length dimension which is equal to or greater than the length dimension of a spice vanilla bean.
[0022] The tubular housing parts 10-20 are made of plastic, in particular of clear and completely transparent PP or PET, or also of recycled R-PP or R-PET, and are designed as injection-molded parts. The tubular housing parts 10-20 can have a circular cylindrical cross-section, or an oval cylindrical or polygonal cross-section, and can be straight or curved and / or shaped as desired or in the form of a vanilla bean. The figures only show tubular housing parts 10-20 that are hollow cylindrical and straight.
[0023] The closure 21-26 of the two housing parts 10-20 can be arranged in the center of a container 1-8, as is the case, for example, in the Fig. 1 is shown or also in the upper third, as in Fig. 2 shown or in the lower quarter, as in Fig. Figure 3 shows. In all other figures shown, the closures 22-26 are arranged in the middle of a container 4-8, and these may also be arranged at different positions on the body of the container 1-8.
[0024] Because the closure 21-26 of a container 1-8 can be arranged in different positions, the two housing parts 10-20 can be of the same or different lengths. All housing parts 10-20 have corresponding circumferential axial and / or radial sealing surfaces 27-46 in the area of their closure 21-26.
[0025] A container 1, 2, 3, as it is in the Fig. As shown in Figures 1-3, the container 1-3 has contours in the area of the closure 21 formed as cylindrical rings 9, which project from a lateral surface of the housing parts 10-15. When the container 1-3 is closed, the cylindrical rings 9 abut each other at their ends, together forming a cylindrical surface for applying a novelty seal 47 in the form of a foil arranged around it. The rings 9 of the closure 21 facing each other have chamfers which, when the container 1-3 is closed, form a groove 48 with the chamfer of the respective other housing part 10-15. In its new state, this groove is spanned by the novelty seal 47, which is either closed or perforated and can be permanently separated by means of a fingernail, a technical aid, or by twisting the two housing parts 10-15 relative to each other. Fig. 5 is shown in an enlarged sectional view.
[0026] The cylindrical ring 9 of the closure 21 of the container 1-3 has an inwardly directed locking ring 49 with a convex surface at its end face, and the opposite closure side of the housing part 11 has a cylindrical extension extending in front of the ring 9 towards the housing part 10, which has one or more spaced-apart, outwardly directed annular grooves 50 with concave surfaces for receiving the locking ring 49, so that the two housing parts 10; 11; 12; 13; 14; 15 can be snapped together at any angle of rotation about their longitudinal axes without generating a mutual rotational movement. The container 1-3 is then opened by means of manual pulling and / or bending forces.
[0027] Container 4, which is in the Fig. As shown in Figures 6-10, a housing part 12 also has a cylindrical ring or ring section 51, which has an inner sealing surface 35 and locking ring sections 52 that can interact with annular grooves 53 of the other housing part 13. The latter has an end-face sealing surface 34 that interacts with an end face within the ring section 51 of the casing 12 of the container 4, forming a seal 33. Likewise, the areas between the annular grooves 53 projecting from the casing surface of the housing part 13 form annular contact surfaces, which are also designed as sealing surfaces and bear against the inside of the ring section 51.
[0028] Such a container 4 can be sealed airtight with a shrink tube as a warranty seal when filled and new, which is not shown in the drawing.
[0029] One variant of the container 5 also has a ring section 54 on its housing part 14, to which a snap ring 57 is attached via thin snap tabs 56. This snap ring is equipped with inwardly directed locking lugs 58. Its closure 23 has a thread 59 on the opposite side of the housing part 14 at its end face, and behind it a circumferential locking ring 60, behind which the locking lugs 58 of the snap ring 57 engage when the container 5 is screwed together, as shown in Fig. Figure 13 shows the thread in the ring section 54, which is formed from threaded sections 55. The interior of the container 5 is sealed by the end-face contact of the housing part 15 with its end face as sealing surface 38 against an opposing inner end face as sealing surface 37 of the housing part 14 within the circumferential ring section 54.
[0030] A variant of container 6, as it appears in the Fig. As shown in Figures 14-16, the housing part 16 and 17 has a locking mechanism 24 which aligns the two housing parts 16 and 17 about their vertical axes when they are joined. One end of the housing part 17 has a ring section 61 projecting beyond the contour of its outer surface 16, with several wedge recesses 62 or other concave recesses forming ramp geometries and directed inwards into the housing part 16. A snap ring 64 with inwards-facing locking lugs 65, acting as a locking device, is molded onto the ring section 61 via thin snap tabs 63. The opposite end of the housing part 17 has radially projecting cams 66 that align the housing parts 16 and 17 when they are pressed together by running against the wedge recesses 62. Behind the cams 66 is a circumferential outer locking ring 67 for locking with the inner locking ring 68 of the ring section 61.The ramp geometry allows for simplified opening of the original seal with the snap ring 64 by rotating the two housing parts 16;17 relative to each other. This closure 24 also has sealing surfaces 39; 40 to shield against ingress of air or contaminants.
[0031] A container 7, as it is in the Fig. As shown in Figures 17-19, the device additionally features a mechanical tamper-evident seal on its closure 25, which has a tear-off tab 72. This tab is formed on a ring 70 around the housing part 19 via a film strip 69 and a connecting piece 71, by which the tear-off tab 72 is spaced apart from the housing part 19. The opposite end face of the housing part 18 has a locking recess 73 for the connecting piece 71, which additionally has a spring hook 74. Upon initial closure and axial engagement of the connecting piece 71 in the locking recess 73, the spring hook 74 is designed to retract elastically, whereupon it engages the connecting piece 71 and positively locks the housing part 18 onto the housing part 19, as shown in Figure 17-19. Fig. 19 is shown.
[0032] To open the container 7, this tear-off tab 72 must be torn off from the outer surface of the housing part 19 by grasping it with a fingertip, along with the connecting piece 71, so that the positive locking mechanism is released. This closure 25 also has sealing surfaces 41 on the end faces of the housing parts 19, and the housing part 18 has a corresponding sealing surface 42 within the circumferential ring 9. Similarly, the ring-like projections surrounding the end face of the housing part 19, together with the circumferential ring of the housing part 18, form further sealing surfaces 43; 44.
[0033] Another embodiment of container 8, as described in the Fig.Figure 20-24 shows identically designed housing parts 20, the closure 26 of which has claw-shaped inner threaded sections 76 and outer threaded sections 75, wherein for closure the outer threaded section 75 of one housing part 20 engages in the inner threaded section 76 of the other housing part 20, so that both housing parts 20 can be screwed firmly together, wherein their end faces also each have mutual sealing surfaces 45; 46 which can be clamped firmly against each other.
