Abstract
Description
Technical area:
[0001] The invention relates to a device for the permanent, electrical and mechanical connection of current-carrying stranded wires, such as those used particularly in mobile pasture fences. The device utilizes thermal energy to create a positive and electrically conductive connection using a meltable, conductive connecting element (e.g., EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). State of the art:
[0002] Conductive electric fence polywires typically consist of metal wires embedded in polyethylene (PE). If damaged or torn, they must be manually reconnected using knots or mechanical connectors. Both solutions are error-prone, unreliable, and often lead to power loss or mechanical failure. A simple, robust, portable, and weatherproof connection technology is currently unknown. Object of the invention:
[0003] The object of the invention is to provide a device with which two current-carrying, preferably PE-coated strands can be permanently connected in a simple, time-saving, and user-friendly manner. The connection should be mechanically stable, electrically conductive, and protected against the effects of weather. The device should also be suitable for use under field conditions without the use of commercially available connectors or special technical skills. Solution to the task:
[0004] The task is solved by a device with the following features: 1 . One or two heatable pressing surfaces ( Fig. 1, No.1), which are connected by a hinge or a lever mechanism ( Fig. 1, No. 2) can be moved against each other so that the necessary contact pressure is created. 2. A guide device for fixing two overlapping strands within the device. 3. The task is solved by a thermally activated connecting element that can be inserted between the strands and is available in two versions depending on the strand profile: - a flat connection pad for flat strands and - cylindrical connecting sleeves for round strands. When the device is closed and heated, this connecting element softens or melts, penetrating the braided structure of the strands and partially enclosing them. After cooling, the material solidifies again, forming a mechanically stable, positive-locking, and electrically conductive connection between the strand ends. 4. In a preferred embodiment, the connecting pad can be provided with electrically conductive particles (e.g. copper, silver or graphite components) so that an electrical bridge is created between the current-carrying wires of the strands when melted. 5. The heating temperature of the device is in the range of 80 °C to 150 °C, preferably around 110 °C, so that the PE sheath is softened without damaging the metal conductors. 6. The device can be operated with a battery system ( Fig. 1, No.3), in particular a commercially available 18 V interchangeable battery. 7. The connecting element (pad) is designed as a separate consumable part and is available in different versions (conductive, non-conductive, weatherproof).
[0005] Advantages of the invention: • Quick and easy application without tools • Electrically conductive connection through mechanical contact + conductive pad if necessary • Weatherproof and mechanically stable connection • Cost-effective production • Ideal for mobile outdoor applications
Claims
[1] Portable device for connecting electrically conductive, plastic-coated strands, in particular PE-coated strands on pasture fences, characterized by , that the device has up to two heatable pressing surfaces, which are designed in such a way that their interaction under temperature and pressure causes the plastic coating to melt and at the same time a thermoreactive adhesive is activated, which penetrates into the strands and creates a semi-elastic and electrically conductive connection between the strand cores. [2] Device according to claim 1, characterized by , that the heatable pressing surfaces have a temperature control, with which an adjustable welding temperature in the range of 80 °C to 150 °C can be maintained. [3] Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the device includes an interchangeable insert pliers, which is designed to accommodate and hold both flat-profile and round-profile strands. [4] Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that it is powered by a rechargeable battery and an optical or acoustic indicator signals the completion of the welding process. [5] Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the pressing surfaces are spring-mounted, so that material tolerances of the strands are automatically compensated. [6] Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the housing is splash-proof according to protection class IP54 and enables ergonomically shaped one-handed operation.
