Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials.
[0002] In particular, the present invention relates to a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials of the type usable in pharmaceutical or chemical plants for temporarily connecting two containment chambers to enable the transfer of material from a source container to a destination container.
[0003] In particular, the containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials is designed to allow the transfer of material and prevent the leakage of the same material into the external environment or, conversely, contamination of the material from the external environment.
[0004] As is well known, in chemical and pharmaceutical plants there are sealing elements made of elastic material, in this case seals, which are arranged in connecting sections of pipes or devices through which the treated material passes.
[0005] To date, devices of various types are used, such as caps, guillotine gates or butterfly valves, around which a seal is usually mounted to ensure sealing and prevent the leakage of material into the environment during transfer.
[0006] In this case, the butterfly valves comprise a pair of sections adapted to be coupled to respective containers and coupled to each other by seals, and a closure arranged inside the line for the transfer (represented by the coupling of the two sections) of material and characterized by a disc that rotates around its own axis perpendicular to the direction of material flow.
[0007] More specifically, the disc is adapted to move from a flow-blocking position to a position where it allows the passage of material through a section of pipe.
[0008] This type of known equipment represents a good solution to enable the transfer of materials from an output container to an arrival container, but is certainly not without disadvantages.
[0009] A major disadvantage is the fact that the disc is located inside the pipe and therefore (even if it is prepared for the passage of material) has a section inside the pipe that blocks the passage of part of the transferred material.
[0010] In this way, part of the material deposited on the disc will penetrate the seals of the device during the transition from the open design to the blocking design.
[0011] Therefore, when the device is dismantled, part of the material to be transferred is released into the environment.
[0012] This inevitably leads to pollution of the environment.
[0013] Another important disadvantage is that the loss of this material results in an economic loss due to the high cost of the materials involved in the transfer process as well as the cost of subsequent treatment of the waste product in controlled landfills.
[0014] In this context, valves are known in which the closure is characterized by a cylindrical body having an internal gap and adapted to change from a blocking configuration (in which the gap develops in a direction transverse to the direction of material flow) to an open configuration (in which the gap develops in a direction parallel to the direction of material flow). The cylindrical closure is enclosed in a detachable structure in which a first housing (comprising a first closure part) is connectable to a second housing (comprising a second closure part) by a tongue-and-groove connection.
[0015] Although these known devices represent a good solution to solve the above-mentioned problem with regard to butterfly valves, they are not free from significant disadvantages.
[0016] A first disadvantage of these known devices is that they are not always easy and inexpensive to manufacture and often require a large number of components due to the particular cylindrical shape of the closure, which requires a complex technology for the tongue and groove connection between the first and second housings.
[0017] Another disadvantage of the known devices is that they cannot always guarantee an optimal level of security.
[0018] Another disadvantage of the known devices is the fact that they do not always guarantee adequate user-friendliness.
[0019] Therefore, the technical problem underlying this invention is to propose a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials that is capable of eliminating the disadvantages of the known technology.
[0020] In particular, the object of this invention is to provide a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials in order to significantly limit the risk of release of harmful substances into the external environment.
[0021] Another object of the present invention is to provide a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials that is simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
[0022] Another object of the present invention is to provide a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials that ensures optimal quality efficiency.
[0023] A further object of the present invention is to provide a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials that ensures simple and practical use. According to the invention, these and other objects are achieved by a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials that comprises the technical features described in the appended claims.
[0024] The technical features of the invention within the scope of these objects are clearly described in the appended claims, and its advantages will become apparent from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings, which represent an exemplary and non-limiting embodiment. [0025] With reference to the accompanying figures, reference numeral 1 denotes as a whole a containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials, manufactured according to the present invention, hereinafter also referred to simply as valve 1.
[0026] The flap 1 according to the invention comprises a first block 2 and a second block 3 which are stably connectable in a removable manner and which, when connected, develop along an axis X.
[0027] The first block 2 comprises a first 21 housing. Advantageously, the first 21 housing has a substantially circular cross-section. Advantageously, the first 21 housing is made of metallic material.
[0028] According to further embodiments, the first 21 housing is made of plastic.
[0029] The first block 2 further comprises a first 22 closure portion disposed internally on the first 21 housing and formed at least partially opposite a first inner cavity 20 of the first block 2.
[0030] The first 22 closure portion has an engagement surface 221.
[0031] Advantageously, the engagement surface 221 is flat.
[0032] Alternatively, the surface 221 is irregular, i.e., not planar.
[0033] With particular reference to the illustrated Fig. 6, the first closure portion 22 includes a centering diameter 223 obtained on the engagement surface 221.
[0034] The diameter 223 is adapted to protrude from the engagement surface 221.
[0035] The first 22 closure portion comprises a blocking protrusion 224 formed on and projecting from the centering diameter 223.
[0036] In particular, with reference to the illustrated Fig. 7, the second closure portion 32 comprises a cavity 323.
[0037] This cavity 323 is essentially maintained on the surface 322 (defined below).
[0038] The cavity 323 has a first section 324 formed opposite the centering diameter 223 and a second section 325 formed opposite the blocking elevation 224.
[0039] This structure allows for an optimal tongue and groove connection between the first 22 and the second 32 locking section both in terms of centering and in terms of blocking mutual rotations.
[0040] The first 22 closure section also has a gap 222.
[0041] Advantageously, the gap 222 extends through the first 22 closure portion from one end to the opposite end.
[0042] Advantageously, the gap 222 also defines a cylindrical opening.
[0043] The first block 2 also comprises movement means 23 connected to the first closure portion 22 and adapted to move it in rotation about an axis Y transverse to the axis X. Advantageously, the movement means 23 comprise a lever 231 and a screw 232 adapted to connect the first closure portion 22 to the lever 231.
[0044] Advantageously, the movement means 23 comprise, with reference to the Fig. 20-23 a blocking / releasing pin 233 which is designed to change from a rotation-blocking position of the first locking portion 22 when the first 2 and second 3 blocks are not connected to a rotation-releasing position of the first locking portion 22 when the first 2 and second 3 blocks are connected.
[0045] The presence of such a blocking / release pin 233 makes it possible to eliminate or at least limit the risk of possible leaks and material losses when the flap 1 is not fully assembled.
[0046] Advantageously, the movement means 23 comprise a spring connected to the pin 233 and designed to keep the pin 233 in the blocking position as long as no opposing forces act on it, that is to say as long as the two blocks, first 2 and second 3, are not connected.
[0047] On the other hand, when the two blocks, first 2 and second 3, are connected, the action of the spring is overcome by a counterforce applied by a portion of the second 3 block, which implies a displacement of the pin 233 into the release position and offers the possibility of rotating the lever 231.
[0048] According to the Fig. In the embodiment shown in Figures 20 to 25, the pin 233 integrated in the lever 231 is adapted to be inserted into a cavity 235.
[0049] With particular reference to the attached Fig. 24 and Fig. 25, the cavity 235 is maintained on the first housing 21 and has a first portion 236 with an enlarged diameter and a second portion 237 with a restricted diameter.
[0050] The pin 233 is adapted to be inserted into the first enlarged diameter portion 236 of the cavity 235.
[0051] This pin 233 has a first portion with a diameter that is less than or equal to that of the first portion 236 of the cavity 235 and greater than the restricted diameter of the second portion 237.
[0052] The pin 233 further has a second portion having a diameter less than or equal to that of the second portion 237.
[0053] As already mentioned, the first portion of the pin 233 has a diameter which is larger than that of the second portion 237 of restricted diameter of the cavity 235, and therefore, even when the pin 233 is inserted into the cavity 235 by means of its first portion, the pin 233 remains restricted to the first portion 236 of the cavity 235 and prevents rotation of the lever 231, which essentially results in Fig. 21 visible blocking design.
[0054] With reference to the attached Fig. 21 and Fig. 23, the movement means 23 comprise a longitudinal pin 234 which develops in a direction substantially parallel to the axis X.
[0055] This pin 234 is designed to abut against the pin 233 (transverse to it) when the first 2 and the second 3 blocks are connected.
[0056] So if the first and second blocks 2 and 3 are connected (as shown in the attached Fig. 22 and Fig. 23), the longitudinal pin 234 exerts a horizontal thrust on the pin 233, which leads to a displacement of the latter, so that the pin 233 itself is introduced into the cavity 235 only by means of the second section having a diameter less than or equal to that of the second part 237.
[0057] In this design, the pin 233 is no longer restricted to the first portion 236 of the cavity 235 and can thus also move along the second portion 237 with a restricted diameter.
[0058] This allows the lever 231 to rotate about the Y axis. In other words, this enables the rotation of the first locking portion 22 about the Y axis to be unlocked.
[0059] The first block 2 further comprises first connecting means 24 adapted to fix the first block 2 to the second block 3.
[0060] With reference to Fig. 2, the first connecting means 24 have a plurality of engagement cavities 241.
[0061] These first connecting means 24 define with the engagement surface 221 a contact surface of the first block 2 with the second block 3.
[0062] The said second block 3 comprises a second 31 housing.
[0063] With reference to the Fig. 14 and Fig. 15, the second 31 housing comprises second connecting means 34 adapted to fix the second 3 block to the first block 2.
[0064] Advantageously, the second connecting means 34 comprise a plurality of tabs 341. These tabs 341 comprise an end portion 341a fixed to the second housing 31 and a raised portion 341b.
[0065] Advantageously, the tabs 341 are designed to engage in the cavities 241.
[0066] Advantageously, the portion 341b is raised relative to the second housing 31 by a portion which substantially coincides with the thickness of the contact surface proximal to the cavities 241, ie with the thickness of the retaining portion 242 indicated below.
[0067] The connecting means 34 further comprise a rotary element 342 adapted to cause a rotation R of the second block 3 about the axis X such that the tabs 341 are moved from a first insertion position ( Fig. 16 and Fig. 17) into the cavities 241 to a second position ( Fig. 18 and Fig. 19) in which a retaining portion 242 of the first connecting means 24 is inserted between the raised portion 341b and the second housing 31, so that the tabs 341 are prevented from sliding along a direction parallel to the axis X.
[0068] More specifically, when the tabs 341 are in the said second position, the first 2 and the second 3 blocks are stably connected to each other.
[0069] In particular, the first 2 and the second 3 blocks can be stably connected by mutual rotation around the X axis.
[0070] With reference to Fig. 7, the second block 3 further comprises a second locking portion 32 stably connected in a removable manner to the engagement surface 221 of the first locking portion 22.
[0071] Advantageously, the second 32 closure section has, with reference to Fig. 7 a surface 322 adapted to engage the surface 221 of the first 22 closure portion.
[0072] The second 32 closure portion is adapted to be arranged in a respective second inner cavity 30 of the second 3 block.
[0073] First 22 and second 32 closure sections define a closure element 4.
[0074] The first 22 and the second 32 closure sections are fixedly arranged within the respective first 2 and second 3 blocks, even if the latter are separated.
[0075] This property makes the first 2 and the second 3 blocks airtight, even when separated from each other.
[0076] The closure element 4 is adapted to be arranged in a first closed position when the gap 222 is arranged in a direction transverse to the axis X.
[0077] The closure element 4 is adapted to be arranged in a second opening position when the gap 222 is arranged in a direction parallel to the axis X.
[0078] The closure element 4 is essentially spherical.
[0079] Due to the spherical design of the closure element 4, the process for a stable connection between the first 2 and the second 3 blocks can be carried out by mutual rotation. This optimizes the tightness of the valve used.
[0080] Such a type of connection by rotation is not possible with known valves which have a cylindrical closure element arranged in a seat designed opposite thereto.
[0081] Indeed, a cylindrical configuration or in any case any other non-spherical shape of the closure and the seat in which it is arranged would not allow mutual rotation of the two blocks due to the non-radial development (of the closure and the seat) along the main axis of the valve.
[0082] The closure element 4 thus has a substantially spherical configuration in which the first closure section 22 has a larger dimension than that of the second closure section 32.
[0083] Essentially, the first 22 closure portion covers a dimension that is greater than 50% of the total dimension of the closure element 4 and the second 32 closure portion covers a dimension that is less than 50% of the total dimension of the closure element.
[0084] Indeed, as explained above, the first 22 closure portion includes within its interior the gap 222.
[0085] The engagement surface 221 is arranged outside the central plane of the closure element 4. In particular, the central plane of the closure element 4 is understood to be the plane that coincides with the development axis of the gap 222. Advantageously, the flap 1 according to the invention comprises a first 25 and a second 35 opening, which are arranged respectively on the first 2 and second 3 blocks.
[0086] Advantageously, the first 25 and second 35 mouths can also be connected to the respective containers.
[0087] In particular, they are adapted to be connected to an output container and an arrival container in order to enable, via the flap 1, the transfer of pharmaceutical material from this output container to this arrival container.
[0088] In particular, the first 25 and second 35 mouths together with the gap 222 further define a channel for transferring pharmaceutical material when the closure element 4 is in said opening position.
[0089] Advantageously, when the closure element 4 is in said open position, the transfer channel is completely free of stress. Advantageously, when the closure element 4 is in said open position, the engagement surface 221 is also positioned outside the transfer channel.
[0090] That is, when the closure element 4 is in said open position, the surface 221 is located in an area inaccessible to the pharmaceutical material adapted to traverse the transfer channel itself. This provides the important advantage of significantly reducing the possibility of any part of the pharmaceutical material being inserted into assembly elements such as said engagement surface 221.
[0091] If the closure element 4 is in the mentioned closed position, the transfer channel is blocked.
[0092] Advantageously, the first 2 block comprises a first support element 27 which is arranged inserted between the first 21 housing and at least a first portion of the closure element 4.
[0093] With reference to Fig. 5, the first support element 27 is designed such that it defines the first inner cavity 20, which is formed opposite to the at least one first portion of the closure element 4.
[0094] Advantageously, the second 3 block comprises a second support element 37 which is arranged inserted between the second 31 housing and at least a second portion of the closure element 4.
[0095] With reference to Fig. 5, the second support element 37 is designed such that the second inner cavity 30, which is formed opposite to the at least one second portion of the closure element 4, is defined.
[0096] More specifically, when the closure element 4 is in the closed position, the at least one first closure element section 4 coincides with the first closure section 22 and the at least one second closure element section 4 coincides with the second closure section 32.
[0097] With reference to Fig. 5, the first 27 and second 37 support elements define in their interior a substantially spherical empty space 40 adapted to contain the closure element 4.
[0098] This empty space 40 is thus formed opposite to the closure element 4.
[0099] The flap 1 according to the invention comprises a first 26 pin which is fixed to the first housing and is adapted to change from a blocking position in which the first 26 pin prevents the rotation of the lever 231 about the axis Y, to a release position for which the rotation of the lever 231 about the axis Y is permitted.
[0100] When the first pin 26 is in the release position, ie when the lever 231 can be rotated about the axis Y, the first locking portion 22 can also rotate about the axis Y (following the rotation of the lever 231).
[0101] With reference to the Fig. 3 and 8 to 10, the flap 1 according to the invention comprises a plurality of hook pins 38 of the second closure section 32. These hook pins 38 are arranged such that the second support element 37 and the second closure section 32 are firmly connected to one another.
[0102] The structure of the hook pins 38 is of the compact type to maximize the contact surface with the second support member 37 and reduce the bending moment.
[0103] These hook pins 38 are adapted to move from a blocking position PB2 ( Fig. 9), in which the hook pins 38 are inserted into the respective grooves 321 of the second locking portion 32 to secure it within the second 3 block, into a release position PS2 ( Fig. 10) in which the second closure section is free to rotate about this axis Y.
[0104] More specifically, when the pin 26 is in the release position and the pins 38 are in the PS2 position, the closure element 4 is free to rotate about the Y axis.
[0105] Advantageously, the flap 1 according to the invention comprises means for blocking / unblocking the relative rotation of the second housing 31 with respect to the rest of the second block 3 about the axis X.
[0106] With reference to the attached Fig. 11 to 13, these first blocking / releasing means comprise a pin 36 and a spring 33 which is fixed at a separate first end to the pin 36 and at a separate second end to the second housing 31.
[0107] The pin 36 is adapted to slide into a cavity 39 maintained on the second support element 37.
[0108] The cavity 39 has a first portion 391 and a second portion 392 with a restricted diameter.
[0109] Advantageously, the pin 36 has a first portion with a diameter substantially equal to that of the first section 391 of the cavity 39 and a second portion with a restricted diameter substantially equal to (or smaller than) that of the second section 392 of the cavity 39.
[0110] Basically, when the first 2 and the second 3 blocks are not connected, the pin 36 has the first portion inserted into the first section 391 of the cavity 39.
[0111] In this situation, the mutual rotation between the housing 31 and the second support element 37 is prevented because the first section of the pin has a larger diameter than the second portion 392 of the cavity 39 and thus remains limited to the first section 391.
[0112] When the first 2 and the second 3 blocks are connected, the first 2 block comes into abutment with the second portion of the pin 36, which implies the displacement of the pin 36 along a direction parallel to the axis X and compresses the spring 33.
[0113] In this case, only the second section of the pin 36 remains inserted in the cavity 39, which makes the mutual rotation between the housing 31 and the second support element 37 possible, since it has a diameter which is substantially equal to or smaller than that of the second section 392 of the cavity 39.
[0114] These blocking / unblocking means are therefore essentially of the automated type.
[0115] This makes it possible to free an operator from performing a manual operation to lock and release the rotation, since this operation is essentially automatic after the connection between the first 2 and the second 3 block.
[0116] With reference to the attached Fig. 4, the flap 1 according to the invention comprises a centering pin 51 of the closure element 4.
[0117] This centering pin 51 develops in a direction transverse to the axis X.
[0118] This allows for the optimization of the mechanics and structure of the flap 1 according to the invention. Advantageously, the flap 1 comprises a plurality of sealing O-rings adapted to be arranged between the structural components of the flap 1 itself, for example, between the first 22 and second 32 closure sections, between the first 22 closure section and the first support element 27, between the second closure section 32 and the second support element 37, between the first support element 27 and the first 21 housing, and between the second support element 37 and the second 31 housing. The presence of O-rings ensures optimal sealing in any type of environment, especially in chemically aggressive environments.
[0119] Advantageously, the closure element 4, the first 21 housing and the second 31 housing are made of metallic material.
[0120] Advantageously, the first 27 and the second 37 support elements are also made of plastic.
[0121] According to a further embodiment, the closure element 4, the first 21 housing and the second 31 housing are made of plastic.
[0122] This additional embodiment makes it possible to provide a one-way flap 1.
[0123] In use to transfer pharmaceutical material from an output container to an arrival container, a first step is provided in which a first block 2 is brought into contact with a second block 3 of the flap 1.
[0124] Advantageously, the first block 2 is adapted to be connected to an output container. Advantageously, the second block 3 is adapted to be connected to an arrival container.
[0125] This is followed by the step of releasing the pin 36 to enable the relative rotation of the second housing 31 with respect to the rest of the second block 3. This release step occurs automatically, simultaneously with the connection of the first block 2 and the second block 3. Advantageously, during the step of automatically releasing the pin 36, the hook pins 38 emerge from the grooves 321 of the second locking portion 32, allowing it to follow the rotation of the first locking portion 22.
[0126] This is followed by the step of releasing pin 26.
[0127] Advantageously, during the step of releasing the pin 26, this pin 26 changes from a blocking position of the lever 231 to a release position so that the lever 231 (and the first closure portion 22 together with it) can be rotated about an axis Y.
[0128] Advantageously, the closure element 4 is therefore free, after the step of releasing the pin 26, to rotate about the axis Y in order to change from a blocking position to an opening position and vice versa.
[0129] The containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials according to the present invention eliminates the above-mentioned disadvantages and achieves important advantages.
[0130] A first important advantage of the containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials is the fact that this valve ensures an optimal level of safety during their use and significantly limits the possibility of the release of harmful substances into the external environment.
[0131] Another advantage is the fact that the containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials is practical and economical to manufacture thanks to the significant reduction in waste it allows to achieve.
[0132] A further advantage of the containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials is the fact that the substantially spherical design of the closure element 4 makes it possible to simplify the components required for the manufacture of the valve and to further optimize its costs.
[0133] Another advantage is the fact that the containment valve for the transfer of pharmaceutical materials ensures the important feature of disassembly by combining it with a high level of safety in use, that is, this valve, once assembled, significantly reduces the risk of accidental separation between the components during use.
[0134] This is made possible by the special structure of the flap itself, which, thanks to the spherical shape of the closure element 4 and the opposing shape of the support elements 27 and 37 and of the housings 21 and 31, allows the blocks to be engaged by rotation in order to achieve optimal blocking.
