Description

The invention relates to a wound dressing

[0001] In the treatment of illnesses or post-operative care, it may be necessary to insert a tube into the patient's body so that it protrudes from an incision. Depending on the type of treatment, this tube may be referred to as a catheter, drain, or cannula.

[0002] To protect the wound area formed by the incision and, if applicable, the area around it from infection, and preferably to support wound healing, it is known to use wound dressings that are placed around the tubing. These dressings can consist of, for example, gauze, non-woven fabric, or a foam material. After application, the dressing and the end of the tubing are preferably covered with a liquid-tight covering, such as a waterproof bandage.

[0003] One disadvantage of these well-known wound dressings is that they can slip during application and therefore no longer reliably perform their function.

[0004] Furthermore, the wound dressing must be changed regularly by the patient or a healthcare professional. Especially when the patient performs the change themselves, applying the standard wound dressings and covering them with a cover is cumbersome, as the various components – the wound dressing, the end of the tubing, and the cover – may need to be aligned with one hand.

[0005] The present invention is therefore based on the objective of creating a wound dressing that reduces and preferably eliminates the disadvantages of the prior art.

[0006] The problem is solved by a wound dressing with the features of claim 1. Advantageous further developments are described in the dependent claims, the description, and the figures.

[0007] According to the invention, the wound dressing for treating an incision with a tubing end comprises an absorbent body with a top and a bottom. The bottom is the side of the absorbent body that, when applied to the patient, faces the patient's skin where the incision is located. The absorbent body also has a height that is the difference between the top and bottom surfaces and is less than its width and length. A slit is provided in the absorbent body. The length of the absorbent body is the dimension in which the slit is oriented. The width of the absorbent body is the dimension that is perpendicular to its length and height.

[0008] Because the wound dressing has a slit, it is also called a slit dressing. The slit extends from one edge of the absorbent core towards the center of the core to an inner end of the slit.

[0009] The slot extends over the entire height of the absorbent core. The slot can be created by a simple cut into the absorbent core. In this case, the slot width is zero, meaning that the two slot surfaces extending in the direction of the slot are abutting each other in their initial state. The initial state here refers to the state of the wound dressing before the tubing end is inserted into it. According to an alternative embodiment, however, the slot can also have a width greater than zero. In this case, the slot width in its initial state can correspond to the diameter of the tubing. One or more additional cuts can be provided at the inner end of the slot. These additional cuts can, for example, form a Y-shape or a cross shape with the slot. The inclusion of additional cuts is particularly advantageous in the embodiment where the slot width is zero. These additional cuts allow the hose end to be securely held in the slot, especially at the inner end of the slot.

[0010] According to the invention, the slot extends from an edge of the absorption body towards the center of the absorption body's surface to the inner end of the slot. The center of the surface is defined as the center of the top and bottom surfaces of the absorption body. The edge of the absorption body where the beginning of the slot is located is hereinafter also referred to as the slot edge of the absorption body. The slot is preferably a straight slot. By positioning the beginning of the slot at the slot edge of the absorption body, the tubing can be inserted into the slot above this beginning and moved to the inner end of the slot.

[0011] According to the invention, the absorbent body has an adhesive surface on its underside for attaching the wound dressing to the patient's skin. The adhesive surface can be applied to or embedded in the underside of the absorbent body. This adhesive surface, which secures the wound dressing to the patient's skin, prevents the dressing from falling off or slipping after application. In particular, it prevents the dressing from slipping relative to the tubing.

[0012] The adhesive surface is located on the underside of the absorption body between the edge opposite the slot edge and the inner end of the slot. The adhesive surface terminates at a distance from the inner end of the slot. This prevents adhesive from the adhesive surface from coming into contact with the cut surface, thus protecting it.

[0013] According to the invention, the absorbent body has a fixing element on its upper surface for securing the end of the tubing. This fixing element is an adhesive element and will be referred to as such in the following. The tubing end can be fixed via the adhesive element. For this purpose, either the end of the tubing itself, a valve optionally provided at the end, and / or a portion of the tubing in front of the end can be held against the wound dressing by the adhesive element. Since the fixing element is an adhesive element, the tubing end can be fixed in a simple manner, in particular without separate fastening steps. Rather, the tubing end and / or a portion of the tubing in front of the end simply needs to be brought into contact with the adhesive element and, if necessary, pressed onto it to achieve fixation.

[0014] The adhesive element extends in a direction parallel to the slot direction on the upper surface of the absorption body. Preferably, the center line of the adhesive element lies in the direction of the slot. The adhesive element is located between the inner end of the slot and the edge opposite the slot edge. This allows the end of the tubing, which has been pushed through the slot to the inner end, to be bent and thus easily brought into contact with the adhesive element.

[0015] The wound dressing according to the invention has a number of advantages. In particular, the wound dressing according to the invention combines absorption with fixation of the tubing and partial adhesion to the patient's skin. In addition, dressing changes are facilitated and the risk of infection is reduced, since the required manipulation is minimal.

[0016] According to a preferred embodiment, the absorbent core consists of a foam material. Preferably, the absorbent core consists of polyurethane (PU) foam. Particularly preferably, the absorbent core has a height, which can also be referred to as thickness, that is greater than 3 mm, preferably greater than 4 mm, for example, 5 mm. Due to its greater thickness and the preferably soft absorbent material, such as PU foam, the absorbent core forms a cushioning pad between the skin and the end of the tubing protruding from the incision. This reduces localized pressure on the skin and friction against the skin, thus improving the patient's comfort. Furthermore, PU foam is easy to work with; in particular, the slit can be easily created.

[0017] In a preferred embodiment, the adhesive element is a silicone adhesive strip. The silicone adhesive strip can be applied to the top surface of the absorption body. Preferably, the silicone adhesive strip is integrated into the absorption body.

[0018] According to a preferred embodiment, the adhesive element has a width that is less than the width of the absorption body. The width of the adhesive element is preferably greater than the diameter of a hose to be fixed with the adhesive element. For example, the width of the adhesive element can be 10 mm. By making the width of the adhesive element less than the width of the absorption body, the unwanted adhesion of objects or particles in the area of the adhesive element not covered by the hose can be minimized.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the adhesive element ends at a distance from the inner end of the slot. This prevents the adhesive from entering the slot and the cutting edge.

[0020] According to one embodiment, the adhesive surface on the underside of the absorption body is a silicone strip or hydrogel strip.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the adhesive surface extends across the entire width of the absorbent body. This maximizes the area over which the wound dressing is bonded to the skin. The adhesive surface can have a constant length across its width. Alternatively, the length of the adhesive surface can vary across the width and be particularly greater towards the edges. This allows the adhesive surface to be further enlarged while still maintaining a reliable distance from the inner end of the slot and thus also from the incision point.

[0022] According to a preferred embodiment, the length of the absorption body is greater than its width. The elongated design of the absorption body allows its size to be kept small while still providing a sufficient surface area, particularly in the longitudinal direction, to which the hose can be attached.

[0023] The present invention is not limited to exact dimensions of the wound dressing or its components.

[0024] Preferably, the absorption body has a height that is less than its width and length. The length is preferably greater than the width. The length of the slot can be less than the length of the fixing element. The adhesive surface can extend across the entire width of the absorption body. Furthermore, the adhesive surface can begin at the edge opposite the cut edge. The length of the adhesive surface can, for example, be one-third of the length of the absorption body.

[0025] The invention will now be described again with reference to the accompanying figures, the embodiments shown being non-limiting. The figures show: Fig. 1a a schematic, perspective top view of a first embodiment of the wound dressing; Fig. 1b a schematic, perspective bottom view of the first embodiment according to Fig. 1a; Fig. 2. Schematic top view, side view and bottom view of the first embodiment; Fig. 3 a schematic perspective view of a second embodiment of the wound dressing with inserted catheter; Fig. 4a a schematic, perspective top view of a third embodiment of the wound dressing; and Fig. 4b a schematic, perspective bottom view of the third embodiment according to Fig. 4a.

[0026] The figures are not to scale. Identical elements within the figures are marked with the same reference symbols and may only be described once.

[0027] In the Fig. 1a and Fig. Figure 1b shows a first embodiment of the wound dressing 1 according to the invention. The wound dressing 1 has an absorbent body 10. As can be seen from Fig. 2. The absorption body 10 has a height H that is less than its width B and length L. Its length L is greater than its width B. For example, the absorption body 10 could have the following dimensions. L = 100mm B = 40mm H = 5mm

[0028] However, the present invention is not limited to these dimensions.

[0029] A longitudinal slot 100 is provided in the absorption body 10. The slot 100 extends over the height H of the absorption body 10 and runs longitudinally from an edge side, in particular an end face of the absorption body 10, which is referred to as the slot edge side. In the embodiment shown, two additional slots 101 are provided at the inner end of the slot 100, which together with the slot form a Y-shape.

[0030] A fixing element 12 is provided on the upper side of the absorption body 10. The fixing element 12 extends longitudinally along the absorption body 10 from the edge opposite the slot edge. In the illustrated embodiment, the length LS of the slot 100 is less than the length of the fixing element 12. For example, if the absorption body 10 has a length L of 100 mm, the length LS of the slot 100 can be 30 mm and the length LF of the fixing element 12 can be 60 mm.

[0031] The fixing element 12 has a width that is less than the width B of the absorption body 10. For example, if the width B of the absorption body 10 is 40 mm, the width of the fixing element 12 can be 10 mm.

[0032] As can be seen from Fig. As shown in Figure 1b, an adhesive surface 11 is arranged on the underside of the absorption body 10. In the illustrated embodiment, the adhesive surface 11 extends over the entire width B of the absorption body 10. Furthermore, in the illustrated embodiment, the adhesive surface 11 begins at the edge opposite the cut edge. The length LH of the adhesive surface 11 can, for example, be 30 mm if the length L of the absorption body 10 is 100 mm.

[0033] In Fig. Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of the wound dressing 1. Fig. Figure 3 also shows a hose line 2, at the end of which a valve 20 is provided. The wound dressing 1 is in the Fig. Figure 3 shows the state in which the hose line 2 is already inserted into the wound dressing 1.

[0034] The second embodiment of the wound dressing 1 differs from the first embodiment only in the height of the absorbent body 10, which is greater in the second embodiment than in the first. However, even in the second embodiment, the height is less than the width and length of the absorbent body 10. Furthermore, the shape of the slot 100 in the second embodiment differs from that in the first embodiment. In particular, the slot 100 is a recess with a width corresponding to the diameter of the tubing 20. In the second embodiment, the wound dressing 1, as in the first embodiment, has a fixing element 12 on the upper side of the absorbent body 10 and an adhesive surface (in Fig. 3 not visible) on the underside of the absorption body 10.

[0035] In Fig. 4a and Fig. Figure 4b shows a third embodiment of the wound dressing 1. The third embodiment differs from the first embodiment of the Fig. 1a and Fig. 1b merely by the design of the inner end of the slot 100. In the third embodiment, the additional cuts 101 form a cross shape with the slot 100.

[0036] In summary, the present invention provides a self-adhesive wound dressing with tubing fixation. The tubing can, for example, be a catheter, drain, or tracheostomy tube. Specifically, a self-adhesive slit dressing with catheter fixation is provided, which is a sterile, absorbent wound dressing with a central slit (Y- or cross-shaped) and an integrated fixation element for catheters, drains, or tracheostomy tubes.

[0037] The wound dressing according to the invention can be used advantageously, especially in the treatment of ascites or pleural effusions.

[0038] The slit dressing serves to cover and absorb secretions at the incision site, which can also be referred to as the skin penetration point, to atraumatic fixation of the inserted catheter, and to cushion and dampen between the skin and the tube.

[0039] Thanks to its adhesive surface, which can also be described as a partial adhesive surface, the dressing adheres securely to the surrounding skin without coming into contact with the incision site, such as the actual suture or catheter insertion point. This facilitates dressing changes, reduces the risk of skin irritation, and prevents complications in the wound area.

[0040] The functions of the individual components or features of the wound dressing according to the invention are described again below. Slit design: The compress can be quickly and hygienically placed around the catheter without cutting or manipulation. Absorption: The foam structure absorbs exudate and keeps the surrounding area dry. Catheter fixation: Integrated silicone adhesive strip secures the catheter, reduces movement at the entry point and facilitates wound dressing changes. Padding / Damping: The soft material layer forms a cushioning layer between the skin and the catheter, reducing pressure points and friction, thus contributing to a more comfortable wearing experience for the patient. Partial adhesive area: The dressing has strategically placed adhesive areas (e.g., silicone or hydrogel strips) along its outer edge. This ensures the dressing is securely fixed, while the central entry point remains free of adhesion. Advantage: atraumatic dressing change, as the compress is easily removable. Advantage: no contact between adhesive and suture / stoma site, thus avoiding irritation, infection or wound healing problems.

[0041] Overall, the present invention and its embodiments have the following advantages: Combines absorption, fixation, cushioning and secure, partial adhesion in one product. Easier dressing changes thanks to atraumatic adhesive strips. Protection of the entry point through an adhesive-free zone. Reduced risk of infection through less manipulation and clean sealing – cost-efficiency: combination of two products (compress + fixation plaster). Increased patient comfort through padding and reduced pressure.
