AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing ink fountain linings in printing presses face manufacturing complexity due to complex cutting lines and poor functional reliability, particularly at the corners where gaps can form, allowing ink penetration.

Method used

A set of three separate film pieces - a square base film piece and two mirror-symmetrical triangular protective film pieces - with simplified cutting lines and secure fitting mechanisms, ensuring precise alignment and tension distribution.

Benefits of technology

Facilitates easy manufacturing, reduces production costs, and ensures reliable, gap-free fitting, preventing ink penetration at corners.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to the lining of an ink fountain of a printing press.

[0002] Printing press ink fountains are lined with disposable film to facilitate cleaning. Some films cover only the bottom of the fountain. Others cover both the bottom and the sides of the fountain.

[0003] Such a film is described in JP3933247 B2. This prior art film consists of a single piece and has a rectangular section for the ink fountain base and triangular sections for the side walls. When the film is inserted into the ink fountain, its triangular side wall sections are bent upward from the square bottom section.

[0004] The connection of the base section to the side wall sections via the folds is disadvantageous in terms of production and function of the film: This connection results in complex cutting lines when punching out the film and requires a complex punching tool. This connection also results in poor functional reliability. If the film is not folded precisely along the fold lines or not positioned precisely in the ink fountain, a gap can appear between the film and the side walls, into which ink can penetrate. This danger is particularly present in the corners between the side walls and the ink fountain base.

[0005] The invention is based on the object of creating an ink fountain lining that is easy to manufacture and functionally reliable.

[0006] This object is achieved by a set of foil pieces according to claim 1 and a combination according to claim 6.

[0007] Advantageous further developments are mentioned in the subclaims and result from the following description of an embodiment and the associated drawing.

[0008] In this shows: Figure 1: a set of foil pieces, Figure 2: the set of foil pieces in a paint box in a sectional view and Figure 3: the set of foil pieces in the paint box in a three-dimensional view.

[0009] In Figure 1 A set of film pieces is shown, consisting of three separate pieces. The set of film pieces includes a base film piece 4, which is essentially square. Furthermore, the set of film pieces includes two protective film pieces 5, 6, which are mirror-symmetrical to one another and each of which has a substantially triangular cutting line 12.

[0010] In Figure 21 shows an ink fountain 1 with an ink fountain base 2 and a side wall 3. In addition to the side wall 3, the ink fountain 1 has another side wall at its other end, which is not shown in the drawing. Between the two side walls, the ink stored in the ink fountain 1 is located in a space defined by the two side walls, the base 2, and an ink fountain roller against which the ink fountain 1 rests. The ink fountain roller is not shown in the drawing.

[0011] The ink fountain is lined with the bottom film piece 4 and the two protective film pieces 5, 6. The bottom film piece 4 covers the bottom 2 and the protective film piece 6 covers the inner surface of the side wall 3. The protective film piece 6 ( Figure 1 ) covers the inner surface of the other side wall, which is not shown in the drawing.

[0012] In Figure 3It can be seen that the protective film piece 5 has a lower cut edge 7, which runs parallel to the bottom 2 of the ink fountain 1. The cut edge 7 is part of the cutting line 12.

[0013] In addition, the protective film piece 5 has an upper folding line 8, depending on the installation or use, at which a strip-shaped section of the protective film piece 5 is bent. The strip-shaped section is bent along the folding line 8 at a right angle to the remaining protective film piece 5 and is in Figure 1 not visible. The strip-shaped section is a clamping section 9, which, depending on the installation or use, rests on a roof surface 10 of the covered side wall 3 and is pressed against the roof surface 10 by at least one clamping screw 11.

[0014] One advantage of the film piece set is the simplicity of the cutting lines for pieces 4, 5, and 6 of the film piece set. The cutting line for the base film piece 4 is square and thus comparatively simple, and the punching tool used to punch out the base film piece 4 or cut it from roll material already cut to the appropriate width is correspondingly simple and cost-effective. Although the cutting lines 12 of the two protective film pieces 5, 6 are somewhat more complicated than those for the base film piece 4, they are relatively easy to produce due to the comparatively small size of the protective film pieces 5, 6.

[0015] A further advantage of the film piece set is that, due to the separation of the protective film pieces 5, 6 from the base film piece 4, tensions in the base film piece 4 are not transferred to the protective film pieces 5, 6. For example, the often unavoidable bulging of the base film piece 4 is not transferred to the protective film pieces 5, 6.

[0016] The requirements for dimensional accuracy during the production of the base film piece 4 are also lower due to the piece separation, because manufacturing inaccuracies can be compensated for in the area of the cut edges 7. Thus, dimensional inaccuracies of the base film piece 4 cannot lead to positioning inaccuracies of the protective film pieces 5, 6. Neither the tension of the base film piece 4 nor its dimensional inaccuracies can lead to the protective film pieces 5, 6 not being correctly positioned and tightly fitting against the inner surfaces of the side walls. This is particularly necessary for the area of the corner angle between the respective side wall 3 and the base 2, where the cut edge 7 is located. List of reference symbols
