Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a cutting device for seals with a housing, in particular for automatic seals for doors or the like.

[0002] Seals with housings are widely used, particularly on doors, to seal gaps, for example between a floor and the bottom of a door leaf, against drafts, smoke, and / or noise. An automatic door seal for doors is known, for example, from document DE 20 2013 104 777 U1.

[0003] Despite all the standardization, doors come in different widths. Especially in older buildings, you often find doors with individual widths that don't conform to any of today's standards.

[0004] Seals with housings are manufactured in various lengths. It is common practice to select the length of the seals to correspond to the widths of the door leaves specified in the standards.

[0005] If a seal with a housing, especially an automatic seal, is to be mounted on a door leaf with a width for which no seal of the appropriate length is manufactured, the seal with the next greatest length is selected and used from among the manufactured seals. The selected seal is then cut to length so that its length matches the width of the door leaf.

[0006] This shortening of the seals is currently done manually, either at the manufacturer of the seals, if they are ordered accordingly, in a door factory or on the construction site by the installer of the seal.

[0007] Shortening the seal on-site by a trained technician is a quick way to achieve a properly functioning and shortened seal. However, there is no guarantee that every technician is adequately trained to perform the shortening correctly. Therefore, problems can arise after shortening.

[0008] Shortening the seal at the manufacturer, on the other hand, is time-consuming, especially if, after delivery of the seal to the fitter, it turns out, for example during the planned installation, that the seal needs to be shortened.

[0009] Shortening the seals in the door factory is also time-consuming, as manually shortening them is disruptive in a largely automated manufacturing process.

[0010] Therefore, there is a need to shorten seals with housings quickly and reliably.

[0011] Document DE 10 2005 044 496 A1 describes a cutting device for glazing beads or corresponding rod profiles. a clamping assembly for clamping a housing of a seal in the region of its first end, a second clamping assembly for clamping a housing of a seal in the region of its second end and a saw for shortening the housing of the seal, wherein the second clamping assembly is linearly displaceable relative to the first clamping assembly and to the first saw, is known.

[0012] Glazing beads are seals with a retaining profile and a sealing profile, which are used to hold glass panes in windows, as can be seen, for example, in Figure 21 of document DE 10 2005 044 496 A1.

[0013] Using the familiar cutting device, the retaining profile and the sealing profile are cut to the desired length in a single operation with the saw. This ensures that the retaining profile and the sealing profile are the same length.

[0014] In contrast, seals used to close the gap between a door leaf and the floor typically have different lengths: the retaining profile and the sealing profile are not the same. Instead, the sealing profile usually extends beyond the retaining profile to which it is attached. This extension ensures that, when the door is closed, the sealing profile fits snugly against the door frame, preventing any gap between the seal and the frame. The retaining profile, however, does not rest against the door frame, as this would hinder or even prevent the door from opening and closing.

[0015] Shortening a seal in a single operation using only one saw, as is done with the cutting device known from document DE 10 2005 044 496 A1, is not practical for a seal intended to seal the gap between a door leaf and a floor. Instead, the shortening could be carried out in two operations: first, either the sealing profile or the retaining profile would be shortened, and then the other profile would be shortened in a second operation, taking precautions to ensure that only one of the profiles is shortened in each operation.

[0016] However, this approach has disadvantages, as the retaining profile of seals used to close the gap between a door leaf and the floor is usually made of aluminum, which leaves shavings when sawed. These shavings adhere to the saw and can contaminate the elastomeric sealing profile when cut, or, even worse, partially or completely penetrate the profile. This can impair the sealing function and also lead to scratches on parts that come into contact with the profile, such as the floor or the door frame.

[0017] The inventors have dedicated themselves to this problem.

[0018] This problem is solved according to the invention by a cutting device which has a cutting assembly for cutting the sealing profile of an inserted seal.

[0019] Such a cutting device can be set up, for example, at a seal manufacturer, a door factory, or at another processor or wholesaler, in order to cut seals to a desired size quickly, reliably and at short notice.

[0020] The clamping assemblies can have clamping jaws, a first of which is a stationary clamping jaw and a second of which is movable relative to the stationary jaw. Advantageously, each clamping device has a drive with which the movable clamping jaw can be moved against the stationary clamping jaw to clamp a housing or seal in the cutting device. The drive can be, in particular, an electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic drive. The clamping assemblies can have an input for a power supply to the drive. Furthermore, an input for connection to a control system can be provided, via which the clamping assemblies, and in particular the movement of the movable clamping jaw, are controlled.

[0021] The cutting device can be designed so that the housing is at the bottom and the sealing profile is at the top.

[0022] The second clamping assembly is movable relative to the first clamping assembly and the saw, allowing it to be adjusted to the desired length of the seal so that the seal to be cut can be held at both ends. The second clamping assembly can be mounted on a carriage or be part of a carriage that is linearly guided and movable. The cutting device can have a rail guide or a shaft guide. The guide can consist of rails or shafts through which the carriage is guided. Furthermore, a drive mechanism can be provided to move the carriage. The drive mechanism can include a spindle driven by a motor, which interacts with a spindle nut in the carriage. The carriage can be connected to a drag chain, over which lines, for example supply lines or control lines, are routed to the second clamping assembly or to other assemblies mounted on the carriage.

[0023] A cutting device according to the invention can have a first sensor assembly with which the width of the housing of a seal inserted into the cutting device can be detected. The sensor assembly can have a sensor that is arranged on one of the clamping jaws of the first or second clamping assemblies.

[0024] A cutting device according to the invention can have a stop against which a housing of a seal inserted into the cutting device is placed in order to determine the position of the housing in the cutting device. The stop is advantageously provided on the carriage.

[0025] A cutting device according to the invention can have a second sensor assembly with which the length of the housing of the seal inserted into the cutting device can be detected, in particular when the housing of this seal is in contact with the stop.

[0026] Length can be measured directly or indirectly.

[0027] With a direct measurement, the length of the seal inserted into the cutting device can be recorded immediately.

[0028] An indirect measurement can be carried out by recording where the end of the seal to be shortened is located, assuming that the other end is in contact with the stop.

[0029] For indirect measurement, a second sensor assembly can comprise a displacement sensor and a photoelectric sensor. The displacement sensor could detect the movement of the carriage. The photoelectric sensor could be located in the area of the first clamping device or the saw. It is positioned so that the housing can detect a seal inserted into the cutting device, as described below.

[0030] First, with the cart in a known starting position, at a known distance from the light barrier, a seal is inserted into the cutting device, resting against the stop. The cart can then move the seal lengthwise towards the light barrier. The light beam from the light barrier, initially not deflected by the seal, detects the seal as soon as it is pushed into the beam. The distance traveled by the cart then allows the length of the inserted seal to be calculated.

[0031] A cutting device according to the invention can have a third sensor assembly with which the stroke at a first end of an automatic seal inserted into the cutting device can be detected. Alternatively or additionally to the third sensor assembly, a cutting device can have a fourth sensor assembly with which the stroke at a second end of an automatic seal inserted into the cutting device can be detected. By detecting the stroke that an automatic seal executes when actuated, it can be checked whether the sealing strip of the actuated automatic seal is in the intended position. If the sealing strip of an actuated seal is not in the intended position, the seal can be rejected. If two sensor assemblies are provided, it can additionally be determined whether the sealing strip moves parallel to the housing or whether it becomes misaligned relative to the housing. The degree of this misalignment can also be determined. Knowing the degree of misalignment allows a decision to be made as to whether it is acceptable or whether the seal must be rejected due to excessive misalignment. The third and / or fourth sensor assembly can, for example, include a distance sensor positioned above the area where the seal is inserted.

[0032] A cutting device according to the invention can include an actuating assembly with which an automatic seal inserted into the cutting device can be actuated. Actuating the automatic seal is necessary, for example, to determine the stroke of the sealing strip of the seal. Actuating it is also useful for performing a functional test of the seal. The actuating assembly can include a linear actuator, for example, a pneumatic cylinder, which is connected to a pin. The pin can be pushed by the actuator onto a trigger of the inserted automatic seal to actuate it. The linear actuator could also be connected to a pull element with which the trigger can be pulled if the inserted automatic seal is a pull-trigger seal and not a push-trigger seal. The actuating assembly can include an input for supplying power to the actuator.Furthermore, an input for connection to a control unit can be provided, via which the actuating assembly, in particular the movement of the pin or pull element, is controlled. Before the seal is actuated, it is preferably clamped by means of the first and / or second clamping assembly.

[0033] A cutting device according to the invention can include a positioning assembly with which a sealing strip of an automatic seal inserted into the cutting device can be positioned relative to its housing. This is advantageous because there are seals whose sealing strip is, for example, slightly displaceable in the longitudinal direction relative to the seal housing for design reasons. In order for the sealing strip, in particular the retaining strip that holds the sealing profile and is connected to the housing via a movement mechanism, to be cut at a desired point in such an automatic seal, it is important to bring the sealing strip into the desired position relative to the housing and hold it there.

[0034] A cutting device according to the invention can have a peeling and pulling assembly with which a sealing profile can be at least partially peeled off and pulled onto the rest of the inserted seal. This may be necessary if the sealing profile is to be cut separately from the housing or the housing and the retaining strip.

[0035] A cutting device according to the invention can have a printer with which the housing of an inserted seal can be printed, for example to mark the seal.

[0036] A cutting device according to the invention can include a cutting assembly for cutting the sealing profile of an inserted seal. The sealing profile can then be shortened separately from the housing, or from the housing and the retaining strip, if necessary.

[0037] A cutting device according to the invention can have a third clamping assembly with which the housing of an inserted seal can be clamped. Unlike the first and second clamping assemblies, the third clamping assembly allows the housing to be clamped advantageously in a vertical direction. Preferably, the third clamping assembly has a slotted punch which, on both sides of the point where the housing is cut, presses the housing from above against a bed on which the housing rests. The saw blade can then penetrate the slot of the punch from below during the cutting process. Thus, with a saw blade operating from below, the housing can be clamped directly in the area of the cutting point or the saw blade.

[0038] A cutting device according to the invention can include a display and operating assembly.

[0039] A cutting device according to the invention can have a control unit which is connected to the other assemblies in order to receive sensor signals from them and / or transmit them to the control signals.

[0040] A seal inserted into a cutting device according to the invention, in particular an automatic seal, can be shortened by a method comprising the following steps: Adjusting the distance of the second clamping assembly from the first clamping assembly and the saw, clamping the housing of the seal using the first clamping assembly and the second clamping assembly, and sawing the seal using the saw.

[0041] The seal can be measured using at least one of the sensor assemblies before sawing. A functional test can also be performed before sawing. Measurements can also be taken during the functional test.

[0042] Further features and advantages of the present invention will become clear from the following description of preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying figures. [0043] The cutting device A is used to shorten automatic seals D.

[0044] The automatic door seals D are placed in the cutting device A according to the invention. There, they are clamped and shortened. Preferably, the seal D is measured and subjected to a functional test after clamping and before cutting. Depending on the seal D, it may be necessary to cut an outer profile or housing D1 of the seal and an inner profile or retaining rail D2 of the seal separately from the sealing profile D3 of the seal. In this case, at least in the area of the seal D where it is to be shortened, the sealing profile D3 and the retaining rail D2 or the housing D1 must be separated from each other before they are cut separately. After cutting, the sealing profile D3 and the retaining rail D2 must then be rejoined. Some seals D must be cut in the actuated state, while others must be cut in the disacted state.Furthermore, the retaining rail D2 and the housing D1 may need to be in a specific position relative to each other during the shortening process. It may also be desirable to label the shortened seal D. Afterwards, the seal D can be subjected to another functional test and measured before being removed from the cutting device A.

[0045] For the activities briefly described above, the cutting device A comprises various assemblies 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Some of these assemblies are optionally provided in the cutting device A and can also be omitted in a device according to the invention. Some assemblies can also be used independently of the cutting task, for example, in the production of automatic seals D. Some assemblies could also be provided in other devices.

[0046] The cutting device A comprises a machine cabinet 10 with several cabinet compartments 101, 102, 103. Control assemblies are arranged in cabinet compartment 101, which control or regulate the other assemblies of the device A. The cabinet 10 also includes a worktable 104, which separates a cabinet compartment 102 above the worktable 104, forming a work area 102, from a cabinet compartment 105 below the worktable. Both the work area 102 and the cabinet compartment 105 below the worktable 104 contain assemblies or parts of assemblies of the cutting device A.

[0047] The cabinet compartments 101, 102, and 103 are separated from each other and from the surroundings by side walls 105, rear walls 105, front walls 105, and / or doors. The doors can be opened, in particular the door 106 to the work area. When the door 106 to the work area is open, a shortened seal D can be removed from the work area 102, and a seal to be shortened can be inserted into the work area 102. The door to the work area 102 is a lift door 106, which can be slid downwards to open in front of the cabinet compartment 103 under the worktable 104. The cabinet compartment 103 under the worktable 104 and the cabinet compartment 101 for the control modules have hinged doors. These are located at the front for the cabinet compartment 103 under the worktable 104 and on the side for the cabinet compartment 101 containing the control modules.

[0048] A display and operating unit 2 for the control units is arranged in the wall on the front of cabinet compartment 101. This unit allows the cutting device A to be set up, adjusted, and operated. The display and operating unit 2 allows the status of individual units or the status of the device A as a whole to be displayed and adjusted.

[0049] A first clamping assembly 31 is provided on the worktable, with which the seal D can be clamped in the area of the end to be shortened. This first clamping assembly 31 has a stationary clamping jaw 311 and a movable clamping jaw 312, between which the housing D1 of the seal D1 can be clamped. The figures show the first clamping assembly 31 with the clamping jaws 311 and 312 open, between which a seal D can be inserted into or removed from the first clamping assembly 31.

[0050] A second clamping assembly 32 for clamping the seal D is arranged to be linearly displaceable on a carriage 41. The carriage 41 is displaceable in a slot of the worktable 14 by means of a shaft guide 42. Guide shafts 421 are arranged under the worktable 14, which interact with linear bearings 422 on the carriage 41. Furthermore, a drive 43 is provided for moving the carriage 41.

[0051] The second clamping assembly 32 also has a stationary clamping jaw 321 and a movable clamping jaw 322, between which the housing D1 of the seal D can be clamped.

[0052] The figures show the first clamping assembly 31 and the second clamping assembly 32 with open clamping jaws 311, 312, 321, 322, between which a seal can be inserted into or removed from the first and second clamping assembly 31, 32.

[0053] A third clamping assembly 33 is arranged near the first clamping assembly 31. The third clamping assembly 33 has a movable plunger 331, which can be lowered from above onto an end of a seal D protruding from the first clamping assembly 31, pressing it against the worktable 14. The plunger has a slot through which a saw blade 51 of a saw 5 can be guided. The third clamping assembly 33 prevents the machined or to-be-machined end of the seal D from being subjected to disruptive vibrations during the cutting process.

[0054] Various sensor assemblies 6 are provided in both the area of the first clamping assembly 31 and the area of the second clamping assembly 32. A first sensor assembly 61, mounted on the carriage, measures the width of the inserted seal D. A second sensor assembly 62 in the area of the first clamping assembly measures the length of the seal, which must be in contact with a stop 7 in the area of the second clamping assembly 32 for this to be possible.

[0055] A third and a fourth sensor assembly 63, 64 can be used to detect the stroke that can be achieved with a seal D when it is triggered. The third sensor assembly 63 is located in the area of the first clamping assembly 31, and the fourth sensor assembly 64 is located in the area of the second clamping assembly 32 on the carriage 41. By evaluating the stroke values supplied by the third and fourth sensor assemblies 63, 64, which can differ at the various ends of the seal D, it can be determined whether the sealing strip D2, D3 of the seal D is sufficiently parallel to the housing D1 of the seal D in the triggered state. If there is too great a deviation from a predefined value, the seal D can be rejected.

[0056] The seal D can be triggered manually to measure the stroke or to perform a functional test. However, it is simpler to trigger the seal using an actuating assembly 8. This assembly is located on the carriage 41 in the area of the second clamping assembly 32. The actuating assembly 8 has a pin 81 connected to a drive, which can be pressed against a trigger D4 of the seal D by means of the drive. It is possible that the actuating assembly 8 is designed to actuate a pull-triggered seal. In this case, the actuating assembly 8 must have an element by which the trigger can be pulled.

[0057] Furthermore, the cutting device A shown in the figures has a positioning assembly 9. Similar to the actuating assembly, this has a pin 91 connected to a drive, with which the sealing strip can be moved and positioned relative to the housing D1 when the seal D is actuated or not actuated.

[0058] The cutting device A shown in the figures also includes a pull-off and pull-on assembly 11, with which a sealing profile D3 of the seal D can be at least partially pulled off a retaining strip D2 so that the retaining strip D2 and the sealing profile D3 can be cut separately. This can be useful, for example, if the sealing profile D3 is to have a projection relative to the retaining strip D2 and the housing D1. The sealing profile D3 can then be cut less than the housing D1 and the retaining strip D2. Another reason for cutting the sealing profile D3 separately on the one hand and the housing D1 and the retaining strip D2 on the other hand may be that different tools are required for each.

[0059] The pull-off and pull-off assembly 11 comprises a gripping device 111, rollers and discs 112, which are attached to a multi-axis robot 113. The gripping device 111, which is similar to pliers, can, in particular when the seal D is actuated, grasp the sealing profile D3 at one end of the seal D and pull the gripping device 111 away from the retaining strip D2 towards the other end of the seal D.

[0060] The rollers and washers 112 serve to reattach the sealing profile D3 to the retaining strip D2 of the actuated seal D. The rollers 112 move along the seal D and press protruding retaining structures of the sealing profile D3 into receiving channels of the retaining strip D2. The washers 112 ensure that the edges of the seal D are positioned within the housing D1 of the seal D, so that when the actuating mechanism of the seal D4 is released, i.e., when the seal D changes from an actuated to a disactuated state, the sealing strip D2, D3 can be retracted back into the housing D1 without any problems caused by the sealing profile D3.

[0061] Furthermore, a printhead 121 of a printer 12 is provided between the clamping assemblies, with which something, for example a label, can be printed onto the housing D1 of the seal D. This label could be indicating the length of the shortened seal D.

[0062] A cutting assembly 13 is provided on the worktable in the area of the first clamping assembly 31. This assembly can be used to cut a sealing profile D3 separated from the retaining strip D2. The cutting assembly 13 has a drive and a rotatable blade 131, which can be set in rotation by the drive. The drive is mounted on a carriage 132, which is movable transversely to the slot in the worktable. The cutting assembly 13 also has a cover 133. In a parked position of the movable drive, the rotatable blade 131 is located in the cover 133. When the blade 131 is used for cutting, the carriage 132 with the drive can be moved so that the rotatable blade 131 comes into a working position in which the sealing profile D3 can be cut with the blade 131.Preferably, the cover 133 is pivotably mounted on the work table 104 and coupled to the carriage 132 in such a way that as soon as the carriage 132 is moved into the working position, the cover 133 folds away, thus releasing the rotatable knife 131.

[0063] A circular saw 5 is pivotably mounted in the cabinet compartment beneath the worktable 104. The circular saw 5 is mounted on a swiveling table 52, which is pivotally mounted on a part of a frame 54 in the device A via two pivot bearings 53. The swiveling table 52 can be pivoted upwards, for example, to shorten a seal, by means of a linear drive 55. In its upward-pivoting position, part of a saw blade 51 of the circular saw 5 penetrates a slot in the worktable 104 from below, so that a seal located on or above the worktable 104 can be shortened by means of the saw blade 51. The drawing shows the circular saw 5 in its lowered position.

[0064] The worktable 104 is equipped with covers 56 that protect the saw blade 51, thus preventing objects or even body parts from accidentally coming into contact with the saw blade 51. Only the area where the saw blade 51 cuts the seal D remains free of the covers 56. A cover 57 is also provided under the worktable 104, which protects the saw blade 51. The cover 57 under the worktable 104 has a split base. Two sections of the split base are at an angle of 80° to 110° to each other. A slot is provided between them, through which chips can fall into a collection container 58 located below the slot.

[0065] The circular saw 51 can be used to shorten the housing D1 and the retaining rail D2 and, depending on the design of the seal or the setting of the cutting device, also the sealing profile D3.

[0066] A seal can be shortened using the cutting device, for example, as follows: After an operator has entered the desired seal length on the display and control unit 2, the cutting device A's control unit can determine which seal D should be used to produce the shortened seal. The determined seal D is displayed on the display and control unit 2. The carriage 41 is moved to the position where the stop 7 is a distance from the point where the saw blade 51 cuts the seal D that corresponds to the length of the inserted seal D to be shortened. The first and second clamping units 31, 32 are open.

[0067] The control unit now opens the lifting door 106 to the work area 104. The operator inserts the seal D into the first and second clamping assemblies 31, 32, so that the housing rests against the stop 7. The width and length of the inserted seal D are measured.

[0068] The measurement results are used to check whether the inserted seal corresponds to the seal requested by the control system.

[0069] Then the lifting door 106 closes and the further processing begins. The carriage 41 is moved to a position in which the stop 7 is at a distance from the point where the saw blade 51 cuts, a distance which is determined by the length of the desired seal D.

[0070] A functional test of seal D is then performed. For this purpose, seal D is actuated using actuating assembly 8. Using positioning assembly 9, the sealing strip D2 of the actuated seal D is moved to the desired position relative to housing D1 for shortening. Simultaneously, the stroke and the smoothness of the movement of sealing strip D2 are checked. If any irregularities are detected, or if the wrong seal D has been inserted, further processing is aborted, and the operator is instructed to remove the seal D and insert a new one.

[0071] Then the seal D is clamped using the first, second and third clamping assembly 31, 32, 33.

[0072] If the measurements and the functional test show that the seal D is in good working order, the circular saw 5 is put into operation. The swiveling table 52, on which the motor of the saw 5 is mounted, is pivoted upwards by means of the linear drive 55, so that the saw blade 51 penetrates the designated slot from below. The saw blade 51 begins to shorten the seal D, specifically the housing D1, the retaining strip D2, and, if applicable, the sealing profile D3. After the seal D has been shortened, the circular saw 5 is pivoted downwards. Another functional test is performed. The clamping assemblies 31, 32, and 33 release the seal D, the lifting door 106 opens, and the seal D can be removed.
