Description

[0001] The invention relates to a steam generator liquid separator for a steam generator through which a cooling medium flows vertically. A number of swirl vanes are arranged around an axis in a pipe section, each swirl vane being connected to the axis and the pipe section. The swirl vanes are shaped such that a steam flow through the pipe section is imparted with a rotational movement in addition to its longitudinal movement through the pipe section. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a steam generator liquid separator.

[0002] Liquid separators come in a wide variety of designs and are used in industry. One design, which is particularly used in steam generators for various liquids, for example in the process industry, the chemical industry, or nuclear power plants, has a cooling medium flowing through it vertically (as seen in the geodetic direction). While the cooling medium flows into the steam generator from below, it is usually still entirely in a liquid state. As the cooling medium absorbs heat, it gradually changes to a vapor state. In an area where the cooling medium should have completely changed to a vapor state, it can still happen that the steam still contains liquid or liquid droplets. These are then removed from the steam by liquid separators, thus improving the overall steam quality.

[0003] It is common knowledge that in certain nuclear power plants water is heated by nuclear fuel and then pumped around in a first circuit, the so-called primary circuit. As a heat sink in the primary circuit, several steam generators are usually used in parallel. On the one hand, the water from the primary circuit flows through them, and on the other hand, a cooling medium, usually also water, flows through them, thus cooling the primary circuit. Such heat exchangers are often arranged vertically, i.e. the water from the secondary or cooling circuit flows - viewed geodetically or in the direction of its installation - from below into a first section of the steam generator, which is defined by a tube sheet. This tube sheet is connected to a second tube sheet by a plurality of vertically arranged tubes, allowing water to flow from the first region through the tubes toward a second region in the steam generator. The water in the primary circuit flows around the plurality of tubes, thus heating the cooling medium, water, in the secondary circuit. The steam generator is designed so that the water in the region of the tubes transforms into the vapor phase and thus enters the second region of the heat exchanger as steam.

[0004] It can happen that the water in the secondary circuit does not completely transition into the steam phase, but enters the second section of the steam generator, i.e., a heat exchanger, as wet steam. To improve steam quality, it is desirable that the steam contains as little water as possible when it leaves the steam generator and is usually directed to a steam turbine. This quality improvement can be achieved, for example, by installing a liquid separator, specifically a water separator, in the second section. A so-called cyclone separator, which operates according to the centrifugal force principle and can also be designed in multiple stages, is often chosen.

[0005] In the case of a steam generator for nuclear power plants which is arranged vertically, one design provides for a two-stage water separator which is arranged in the upper region of the steam generator between an upper tube sheet and the upper outlet, namely the steam outlet of the steam generator or heat exchanger.

[0006] The second stage of the two-stage water separator comprises a number of vertically arranged tubes with a diameter large enough to accommodate a first stage of the water separator, which itself is a liquid separator or water separator. The first stage of the water separator comprises several bent metal sheets welded into the tubes. Examples of such liquid separators are shown in patent documents US 4,629,481, US 2015 / 0206606 A1, and US 2007 / 0201604 A1. The metal sheets force the steam flowing through the tubes into a helical flow, i.e., a flow with a flow component in the longitudinal direction of the tubes and a rotating flow component, i.e., a flow component that rotates around an imaginary central axis of a tube. The flow causes the centrifugal forces acting on the water droplets or water contained in the steam to disperse the droplets or water. The water is forced to the edge of the tube and returned to the area with the liquid cooling medium, namely water, in the second stage. For this purpose, for example, perforated plates are arranged above the first stage, allowing the water to pass through the holes while the steam remains in the steam generator dome. Alternatively, concentric tubes are arranged above the first stage, in which the water collects and is then returned to the area with the liquid cooling medium, namely water. In this way, the remaining steam is freed of its water content, improving the steam quality.

[0007] During operation of the steam generator, the bent plates, which are usually made of carbon steel (black steel), experience wear over time due to what is known as flow-assisted corrosion (FAC) or flow-accelerated corrosion. This causes the plates to become thinner, i.e., erode, at least in certain areas. When a certain level of wear is reached, the plates usually have to be replaced during on-site repair or maintenance work in the steam generator. Today, it is common practice for workers to enter the affected area of the steam generator through a manhole and cut, separate, or saw out the worn plates from the tubes, for example, using a cutting process.Subsequently, new bent sheets are first attached to the intended location on the pipe wall of the first stage of the water separator with spot welds, aligned repeatedly if necessary until the desired shape and position of the sheets is achieved, and then firmly connected to the pipe wall with a weld seam.

[0008] A disadvantage of the current technology is that replacement is comparatively time-consuming. Furthermore, it is difficult to weld the new sheets into the exact geometric position so that the bent sheets can achieve their maximum physical water separation effect. Furthermore, there is a risk of deformation of the sheets when welding them freehand to the pipe wall with a weld seam.

[0009] Based on this prior art, the object of the invention is to provide a steam generator liquid separator that can be manufactured comparatively quickly and also has a lower risk of deformation during production. It is also an object to provide a method for manufacturing a steam generator liquid separator.

[0010] The problem is solved by a steam generator water separator or steam generator water separator for a steam generator through which steam flows vertically, wherein a number of swirl vanes are arranged around an axis in a pipe section, wherein each swirl vane is connected to the axis and the pipe section, wherein the swirl vanes are shaped such that a steam flow through the pipe section is set into a rotational movement in addition to its longitudinal movement through the pipe section. The steam generator water separator is characterized in that the pipe section has a plurality of pipe sections, that the axis has a plurality of axis sections, that each swirl vane is connected to a pipe section and to an axis section to form a water separator section, that the axis sections are releasably connected to an axis section holder in a form-fitting manner, and that the positive connection holds them in their structurally intended position.

[0011] The basic idea of the invention is therefore that the swirl vanes no longer have to be attached to an existing pipe wall, as was previously the case, which has the disadvantages mentioned above. Now, each baffle plate is already connected to a pipe section and an axle section. Once the axle sections are attached to their axle section holder, the pipe sections are joined together to form the pipe section. This advantageously avoids the time-consuming positioning and fixing, for example by attaching the swirl vanes to the pipe wall. This is particularly advantageous if the steam generator water separator is manufactured on a construction site and not in a workshop. It is especially advantageous if the steam generator water separator is manufactured on site in a replacement situation. This means that if a liquid separator ora water separator in a steam generator needs to be replaced, and a new liquid separator replaces the worn-out old one. As a rule, the steam generator water separator cannot then be installed as a complete unit in the steam generator, as the dimensions of a steam generator water separator are usually too large to access a steam generator dome, for example through a manhole. A swirl plate with a pipe section and an axle section already attached to it is dimensioned to fit through a manhole of the steam generator in question. In the dome inside the steam generator, the individual swirl plates and their axle sections are detachably connected to the axle section holder in a form-fitting manner. This also forms a pipe section from the pipe sections. This makes it particularly easy to produce a steam generator water separator that is already positioned in a pipe section. This significantly reduces the manufacturing time for a steam generator water separator. Furthermore, manual positioning of the swirl vanes on the pipe wall is eliminated, preventing quality-impairing deformation caused by on-site welding of the swirl vanes to a pipe wall in the steam generator.

[0012] The steam generator water separator is particularly advantageous when used as a replacement steam generator water separator in an environment where people are at risk, such as a nuclear power plant steam generator. Persons are only allowed to be there for a limited time, so that the steam generator water separator—in this case, a nuclear power plant steam generator water separator—can be manufactured and replaced as quickly as possible.

[0013] A further development of the steam generator water separator provides that a first end element is connected to a first end face of the axle section holder and a second end element is connected to a second end face of the axle section holder, that each end element has a circular groove whose open side points towards the respective end face, that a radially outer groove wall of the grooves engages over a portion of the axle sections. It is advantageous here that the individual axial ends of the axle sections of one end face are located in a groove of a end element. The axially outer groove wall thus engages over the axial ends. In this way, the axial ends are particularly well protected against the force exerted by a steam flow through the steam generator water separator. Wear is correspondingly minimized.

[0014] A particularly simple way to connect the end elements to the end faces is characterized by the end elements being screwed into the end face of the axle section holder. For this purpose, an end element, for example, has an external thread that is screwed into a corresponding internal thread on the axle section holder.

[0015] A further alternative of the steam generator water separator is characterized in that each axle section has a molding, that the axle section holder has guide grooves arranged in the longitudinal direction of the axle section holder on its radially outer surface, and that a form-fitting connection is established between each axle section and the axle section holder by means of a molding-guide groove combination. In this way, a particularly simple form-fitting connection between the axle sections and the axle section holder is possible. Preferred form-fitting shapes are, for example, dovetail-shaped or mushroom-head-shaped grooves in the axle section holder with correspondingly shaped moldings on the axle sections. It is also within the concept of the invention that the grooves or moldings are also arranged on the respective other component in order to produce such a molding-guide groove combination.

[0016] Another variant of the steam generator water separator provides for adjacent components such as axle sections, pipe sections, axle section holders, and / or end elements to be permanently connected to one another by means of securing means. The connection of two adjacent components to secure their position or to prevent the component from becoming loose from its position can be achieved using a variety of technical options, for example, using spot welds, weld seams, adhesives, bolts, or rivets. A particularly simple, time-saving, and at the same time secure securing option for use in a replacement situation or within a steam generator is the use of spot welds or weld seams that connect two adjacent components.

[0017] The object is also achieved by a steam generator through which steam flows vertically, comprising a primary water separator arranged in a geodetically upper dome region, wherein the primary water separator has a number of vertically extending pipe sections, wherein a steam generator water separator according to one of the preceding claims is arranged in at least some of the pipe sections. The steam generator predetermines a specific installation situation for the steam generator water separator, in particular in a nuclear power plant. This means that the steam generator water separator is manufactured only in the confined spatial conditions of the steam generator dome. Accordingly, the advantages described above are of particular importance when manufacturing the steam generator water separator within a steam generator dome.

[0018] For particularly simple production of the steam generator with a steam generator water separator, the dome area is provided with a manhole, and the dimensions and shape of the components (axle sections, pipe sections, axle section holders, and / or end elements) are adapted to the clear width of the manhole, allowing these components to be inserted into the dome area from outside the dome area. In this way, a steam generator water separator can be manufactured and inserted into its designated installation location in the steam generator using just a few components prefabricated with the appropriate precision in a workshop.

[0019] A preferred variant of the steam generator is its use as a nuclear power plant steam generator.

[0020] The object is also achieved by a method for producing a steam generator water separator according to the invention, comprising the following method steps Connecting the first end element to the axle section holder. Form-fitting connection of the axle sections of the water separator sections to the axle section holder, so that the pipe section is formed by the pipe sections and so that the swirl plates are arranged at their structurally intended positions. Connecting the second end element to the axle section holder, so that the axial positions of the axle sections are fixed between the first and the second end element.

[0021] In this way, a steam generator water separator is manufactured particularly easily and quickly using only a few process steps according to the invention. Particularly in the case of on-site production, i.e., production that does not take place in a workshop environment, the process steps according to the invention ensure a high quality of a steam generator water separator, while the swirl vanes are exposed to little or no risk of deformation or mispositioning during production.

[0022] The method according to the invention for producing a steam generator water separator can also comprise the following subsequent additional process step: Attaching the securing devices to adjacent components of the components axle sections, pipe sections, axle section holders and / or end elements.

[0023] In this process variant, the position and connection of adjacent components are additionally ensured by the securing devices.

[0024] Thus, in the method for manufacturing a steam generator water separator, securing can be achieved by connecting adjacent components of the components, such as axle sections, pipe sections, axle section holders and / or end elements, to one another by means of welding spots or weld seams as securing means.

[0025] Another process variant for producing a steam generator water separator in a dome area of a steam generator provides the following additional step: Inserting the components axle sections, pipe sections, axle section holders and / or end elements through the manhole into the dome area.

[0026] This process variant aims at producing a steam generator water separator in a special installation situation, which usually has to be carried out as quickly as possible, whereby the quality of the steam generator water separator must not suffer.

[0027] Further advantageous design options can be found in the other dependent claims.

[0028] The invention, further embodiments and further advantages will be described in more detail with reference to the exemplary embodiments shown in the drawings.

[0029] It shows Fig. 1 is an exploded view of an embodiment of a water separator, Fig. 2 is a 3-D drawing of the assembled water separator, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a steam generator with installed water separators.

[0030] Fig. 1shows an exploded view of a water separator 10 as an exemplary embodiment of a steam generator liquid separator intended for installation as a replacement liquid separator in a primary steam generator of a nuclear power plant. In the selected example, the liquid medium flowing through the steam generator is water, which is heated to steam as it flows through the steam generator. The water separator 10 shown has a first 12, a second 14, a third 16, and a fourth water separator section 18, all of which have a similar structure. The water separator sections 12, 14, 16, and 18 are arranged symmetrically around a holder whose central axis is located in the longitudinal direction on an imaginary axis of symmetry of the water separator 10. The holder has an axis section holder 20, a first end element 22, and a second connection element 24.

[0031] The structure of a water separator section will be explained in more detail below using the first water separator section 12 as an example.

[0032] The first water separator section 12 has a curved first swirl plate 26, to which a first axle section 28 is attached on the side facing the axle section holder 20. A first pipe section 30 is connected to the first swirl plate 26 on the side facing away from the axle section holder 20. In the selected embodiment, the water separator 10 has exactly four water separator sections, which have an identical structure with pipe sections 30, swirl plates 26, and axle sections 28. The four pipe sections 28 form a complete pipe section after the water separator 10 is assembled. In the exemplary embodiment, each pipe section 30 has a circumferential portion of the pipe wall on the pipe section of a quarter, or 90°. In the selected example, the axle sections 28 also have a circumferential portion of a quarter, or 90°, and when assembled, form an axle pipe section. The first axle section 28 has, on its side facing the axle section holder 20, a dovetail-shaped projection 32 that extends over the entire length of a longitudinal extension of the first axle section 28 of the first water separator section 12. A total of four dovetail-shaped grooves are provided in the axle section holder 20 along its longitudinal extension, the dimensions of which are adapted to the projections on the axle sections. For example, the first projection 32 can be inserted into a first groove in the longitudinal direction and is thus positively connected to the axle section holder 20. The process of inserting the projections into the grooves is indicated in this figure by several lines 42. The lengths of the axle section holder 20 and the axle sections 28 are coordinated with one another, i.e., the same length in the selected example.

[0033] In addition, the first end element 22 has a thread 36 on its end face facing the axle section holder 20, which thread can be screwed into a corresponding counter-thread on a first end face 38 of the axle section holder 20. However, the counter-thread is not visible in this view. In addition, a first circular groove 40 is machined into the material of the first connection element 22 on the first end face 38, wherein the clear width of the first circular groove 40 is adapted to the radial thickness of the material of the axle sections. In this way, the area of the axle sections that is arranged in the circular groove after assembly is positioned and fixed. Another end face of the first end element 22 is designed with a flow-optimized shape so that steam that impinges on the other end face is guided around the first end element 22 and the holder as a whole with the least possible pressure loss.

[0034] In addition, the second end element 24 has an external thread 44 on its end face facing the axle section holder 20, which can be screwed into an internal thread 46 in a second end face 48 of the axle section holder 20. A second circular groove 50 is provided on this end face of the second end element 24, which has a similar design and function to the first circular groove 40. The areas of the axle sections 28 located there in the assembled state of the water separator 10 are also positioned and fixed in the second circular groove 50. Another end face of the second end element 24 is designed as the diffuser element 52, which results in a further minimization of the pressure loss in the steam flow across the water separator 10.

[0035] The first 22 and the second end element 24 fix all water separator sections 12, 14, 16, 18 in a structurally predetermined axial and radial position on or on the axle section holder 20.

[0036] Fig. 2 shows a 3-D view of the assembled water separator 10, which is why the same reference numerals are used for the same components as in the description of the Fig. 1 . In the Fig. 2It is clearly visible that the pipe sections 30 of the individual water separator sections 12, 14, 16, 18 together form a pipe section in which the swirl plates 26 are arranged. The figure also shows that adjacent components, for example the first pipe section 30 of the first water separator section 12 and the adjacent pipe section 30 of the second water separator section 14, form a common abutting surface 54 at which they are in contact and at which the two components can be welded together by means of a weld seam as a securing means.

[0037] Fig. 3shows a sectional view through a geodetically upper part of a steam generator 60 in the primary cooling circuit of a nuclear power plant with built-in water separators 10. In the example shown, the steam generator has a height of approximately 17 m and a diameter of approximately 4 m and is flowed through from bottom to top by a cooling medium, namely water. As it flows through, the cooling medium is heated and changes into the vapor phase. The figure only shows an upper part of the steam generator 60, a so-called dome, dome area or steam generator dome 62, in which the cooling medium is already in the vapor phase. In the steam generator dome 62, a two-stage primary water separator 64 is shown, which has a plurality of vertically arranged first tubes 66, two of which can be seen in the sectional view. In each of the first tubes 66, a water separator 10 as a steam generator liquid separator according to the invention is introduced as the second stage of the two-stage primary water separator 64.For this purpose, a front end of the pipe section of the water separator 10 is connected, for example, welded, to a front end of a second pipe 68. In addition, an outer diameter of the second pipe 68 and of the water separator 10 is smaller, in the selected example 800 millimeters, but typically between 600 mm and 1100 mm, than an inside diameter of the first pipe 66. In this way, the second pipe 68 with the water separator 10 attached thereto can be inserted from below into the first pipe 66, specifically up to a position in which the pipe section of the water separator 10 is completely located in the first pipe 66. For repair or maintenance work, for example, the steam generator dome 62 is accessible by incorporating a manhole into a steam generator wall 70; this manhole is not shown in the figure, however. The manhole is closed by a manhole cover during normal operation of the steam generator 60, but can be opened temporarily for repair or maintenance work. A typical diameter for such a manhole is 500 mm to 600 mm.

[0038] One repair work that may be required on the steam generator 60 is the replacement of the water separator(s) 10. After a certain period of operation, the material of the water separator may wear out or be eroded due to exposure to steam and water droplets, so that the water separator may be destroyed or at least its function may be limited. However, replacing the original water separator with a water separator 10 is often not easily possible, since the outer diameter of the replacement water separator as water separator 10 is larger than the inside diameter of the manhole through which the water separator 10 would have to enter the steam generator dome. The water separator 10 according to the invention is particularly suitable for this application of a steam generator replacement fluid separator and is installed in the steam generator 60 as follows.A more resistant material can be selected for the water separator 10 than that of the original water separator, for example, stainless steel or high-alloy special steels with a comparatively high proportion of chromium, vanadium, or other metals. Furthermore, to increase the wear resistance of the water separator 10, plating the components, and in particular the swirl plates 26, for example, with austenitic steels, is also considered. Plasma coating of the components, and in particular the swirl plates 26, is also provided as a further alternative for increasing the wear resistance of the water separator 10.

[0039] It is assumed that the original water separator, which must be removed from the steam generator dome due to its state of wear, for example using a separation process such as sawing, cutting and welding, or cutting the original water separator from the second pipe 68 and separating the original water separator from the first pipe 66. The original water separator is then further crushed so that the individual pieces can be removed from the steam generator dome 62 through the manhole. However, the new water separator 10 cannot be inserted into the steam generator dome 62 in an assembled state. The diameter of the water separator 10 is namely larger than the clear width of the manhole. According to the invention, however, the water separator 10 has several components; in the example shown, there are seven components, each of which only has dimensions that can be moved through the manhole. In this way, all of the required components of the water separator 10 are first introduced through the manhole into the steam generator dome 62. There, in a first step, the first end element 22 with its thread 36 is screwed into the mating thread of the axle section holder 20. In a further step, the first water separator section 12 with its first formed portion 32 is inserted into the free end face of the first groove 34 and displaced in the first groove 34 until the first axle section 28 abuts a groove base of the round groove 40. This step is repeated for the second 14, the third 16, and the fourth water separator section 18 until they are arranged in their associated further grooves 34 or longitudinal grooves in the axle section holder 20 and are thus positively connected to it.In an additional work step, the second end element 24 with its external thread 44 is screwed into the internal thread 46 of the axle section holder 20 until a groove base of the second round groove 50 is clamped against the axle sections 28. In this way, the individual axle sections are held in their designed positions and clamped in place between the first end element 22 and the second end element 24. In the example shown, in a subsequent work step, all adjacent components are welded together by welds, i.e., permanently connected to one another. For example, the touching sides of the first pipe section 30 are connected to a second pipe section with a weld seam, or the first end element 22 is welded to the first axle section 28 with a weld seam.
