AI Technical Summary
Wet wipes soaked with surfactant-containing solutions often develop excessive foam during production, leading to delayed film welding and perceived quality defects in packaging, which existing solutions like ethanol or silicone-based defoamers fail to adequately address.
A water-based soaking agent with at least 90% water, low concentrations of surfactants (alkyl polyglycosides, betaine, ethoxylated, or sulfo-surfactants), and minimal thickener (less than 0.1% by weight, preferably konjac gum and xanthan gum) to significantly reduce or prevent foam formation during impregnation of nonwovens.
The solution effectively minimizes foam formation during the production and packaging of wet wipes, maintaining a low viscosity and ensuring a smooth, non-foamy sensory experience, even with low thickener concentrations, which contradicts conventional expectations of thickener roles in stabilizing foam.
Description
[0001] Wet wipes are nonwoven materials impregnated with a preparation, usually a liquid, containing, among other things, a cleansing and / or conditioning ingredient. Wet wipes are now used in many areas of personal care, baby care, and even surface disinfection and cleaning, and are enjoying great popularity because they offer quick and convenient cleaning and care without the need for additional water. Typically packaged in handy units of approximately 10 to 200 wipes, wet wipes are also characterized by their portability, and this property, in particular, has made them indispensable in our increasingly mobile society.
[0002] Wet wipes soaked with an impregnating agent containing surfactants tend to foam heavily. Even during the impregnation of the wipes during production, even low surfactant concentrations can lead to excessive foaming, which prevents or, in some cases, significantly delays the sealing of the film during subsequent packaging.
[0003] Furthermore, the presence of foam in the packaging of wet wipes is often perceived by users as a quality defect, as the sensory perception when removing the wipes from the package is different than with wet wipes impregnated with a non-foaming impregnating agent. Therefore, efforts are made in the production of wet wipes to avoid foam formation when impregnating nonwovens.
[0004] DE 10 2005 016 687 A1 describes cosmetic compositions containing dehydroxanthan gum and at least 5 wt.% ethanol, which are said to be characterized by improved foaming properties. Ethanol is described in this context as a foam-reducing agent. Furthermore, ethanol reduces viscosity, which is why it is used in combination with a thickener. The impregnation of wet wipes with the described compositions is not described.
[0005] GB 2 197 789 A describes a disinfectant with a high formaldehyde content that contains a silicone oil as a defoamer. However, silicone-based defoamers have the disadvantage that they are sometimes poorly soluble in aqueous formulations and / or no longer have sufficient defoamer effect after storage at room temperature or slightly elevated temperatures. The disinfectant described is used for cleaning surgical instruments. Accordingly, the agent is not applied to the skin and is not used as an impregnating agent for wet wipes.
[0006] WO 2015 / 124303 A1 describes low-foam agrochemical compositions containing N-alkylglucamides and one or more defoamers. Due to their intended agrochemical application, the described compositions are not intended for application to the skin and are therefore not used or suitable as impregnating agents for wet wipes.
[0007] DE 10 2019 202 723 A1 describes impregnated wipes, the impregnating agent of which contains biosurfactants, particularly glycolipids and particularly preferably rhamnolipids. The use of biosurfactants is intended to prevent the pronounced foaming characteristic of conventional surfactants.
[0008] WO 2014 / 120566 A1 describes aqueous compositions that can be used as impregnating agents for wet wipes and contain a high proportion of thickener. The foaming behavior of the composition is not addressed.
[0009] EP 3 494 850 A1 describes a wet wipe impregnated with an impregnating agent, wherein the impregnating agent contains hydroxyacetophenone as the sole preservative. The impregnating agent is either an O / W emulsion or an aqueous solution. In the O / W emulsion embodiment, the impregnating agent contains 0.1-0.5 wt.% thickener; in the aqueous solution embodiment, however, the impregnating agent contains no thickener at all. A surfactant system comprising betaines and / or lauryl glucoside can optionally also be contained in the impregnating agent of D1.
[0010] EP 2 866 785 A2 / WO 2014 / 002019 A2 describes an O / W emulsion as an impregnating agent for wet wipes, containing a gemini surfactant or a phosphate ester and a gum mixture. The gum mixture can contain xanthan gum or guar gum. Disodium ethylene dicocamide PEG-15 disulfate is mentioned as the preferred gemini surfactant.
[0011] WO 2014 / 173639 A1 describes impregnating agents for wet wipes that contain glucomannan, xanthan gum, carrageenan and optionally surfactants and have a viscosity of 0.8-7.0 Pas. Object of the invention
[0012] It is the object of the present invention to provide an alternative impregnating agent for nonwovens and a wet wipe impregnated therewith, wherein the impregnating agent, despite a surfactant content, is characterized by a significantly reduced and preferably completely prevented foam formation during the production of the impregnating agent and the impregnation of the nonwoven. General description of the invention
[0013] The invention solves this problem with the features of the claims and in particular with an impregnating agent for wet wipes, which is a water-based composition containing at least 90% by weight of water, based on the total weight of the composition, as well as at least one surfactant and at least one thickener, wherein the proportion of thickener contained in the composition is a maximum of 0.1% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the at least one surfactant is selected from the group consisting of alkyl polyglycosides, betaine surfactants, ethoxylated surfactants, sulfo surfactants and quaternary ammonium compounds, and wherein the dynamic viscosity of the composition at 20 °C is a maximum of 12 mPas, measured with a DIN measuring system 11 according to ISO 53019 at a temperature of 293.15 K and at a speed of 1000 rpm.
[0014] A sulfo-surfactant is a surfactant that has at least one sulfonic acid group (-SO 3 H).
[0015] For the purposes of the invention, a wet wipe is understood to be a nonwoven fabric that has been contacted or impregnated with a liquid or semi-liquid composition. In addition to the classic impregnated rectangular or square nonwoven fabrics, non-rectangular nonwoven fabrics, such as round or oval pads that have been contacted or impregnated with a liquid or semi-liquid composition, are also referred to as wet wipes for the purposes of the invention.
[0016] The water-based impregnating agent according to the invention contains at least 90% by weight of water. However, it is preferred that the proportion of water in the composition be even greater, in particular >93% by weight, >94% by weight, >95% by weight, >96% by weight, >97% by weight, or >98% by weight, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.
[0017] According to the invention, the impregnating agent contains at least one surfactant, which is preferably a vegetable surfactant. The surfactant content in conventional impregnating agents is responsible for their tendency to foam when impregnating nonwovens. However, in the impregnating agent according to the invention, foam formation during impregnating nonwovens is significantly reduced or even completely eliminated by a low thickener content also contained in the impregnating agent.
[0018] For the purposes of the invention, a thickener is understood to mean a hydrophilic gelling agent. According to the invention, the proportion of thickener in the impregnating agent is very low and is in particular less than 0.1 wt. %, preferably less than 0.08 wt. %, even more preferably less than 0.07 wt. %, and most preferably less than 0.06 wt. It has been found that even at the aforementioned very low concentrations of thickener, such as xanthan gum and / or konjac gum, in the impregnating agent, there is no significant sensory increase in viscosity, but foam formation is nevertheless significantly reduced. This is surprising, since one would actually expect the exact opposite, namely a stabilization of the foam through a proportion of thickener. A stabilizing effect of thickeners on foam is described, for example, in US20100055266A1 and also in US20140287980A1.
[0019] The proportion of surfactant contained in the impregnating agent according to the invention is preferably < 1 wt.%, in particular < 0.7 wt.%, < 0.6 wt.% or < 0.5 wt.%, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.
[0020] According to one embodiment, the impregnating agent according to the invention contains one or more surfactants which are independently selected from the group consisting of coco-glucoside, cocamidopropyl betaine, caprylyl / capryl glucoside, polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, C9-C11 fatty alcohol ethoxylate, sodium lauryl sulfate; sodium lauryl ether sulfate, benzalkonium chloride and dodecylammonium chloride.
[0021] The at least one thickener contained in the impregnating agent according to the invention can be selected in particular from the group consisting of konjac gum, xanthan gum, guar, cellulose, and derivatives of konjac gum, xanthan gum, guar, and cellulose. Two or more thickeners contained in the impregnating agent according to the invention can also be selected independently from the aforementioned group.
[0022] Regardless of whether the impregnating agent according to the invention contains one thickener or two thickeners or more thickeners, these are in particular selected from the group consisting of Konjac Gum, Amorphallus Konjac Root Extract, Xanthan Gum, Dehydroxanthan Gum, Hydroxypropyl Xanthan Gum, Guar, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Hydrolyzed Guar, Carboxymethylhydroxypropyl Guar, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Cellulose, C12-C16 Alkoxyhydroxypropyl-ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, C12-C16 Alkyl-PEG-2-hydroxypropylhydroxyethyl-ethylcellulose, Butoxyhydroxypropylcetyl-hydroxyethylcellulose, Carboxymethyl-hydroxyethylcellulose, Carboxymethyl-cellulose acetate butyrate, Calcium carboxymethylcellulose, Cellulose acetate propionate carboxylate, Cetylhydroxyethylcellulose, Cellulose succinate, Cellulose Gum, Croscarmellose, Ethylcellulose, Hydroxybutylmethylcellulose, Hydrolyzed Cellulose Gum, hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl-ethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose,Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose stearoxyether, hydroxypropylcellulose stearyl carbamate, hydroxypropylcellulose, methyl hydroxyethylcellulose, methyl ethylcellulose, microbial cellulose, methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, oxidized cellulose, sodium stearoxy-PGhydroxyethylcellulosesulfonate, sodium salts of oxidized cellulose and sodium cellulose sulfate.
[0023] According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the impregnating agent contains at least 90% by weight of water, preferably at least 93% by weight of water and most preferably at least 95% by weight of water, in each case based on the total weight of the composition forming the impregnating agent, and furthermore at least one surfactant and a combination of konjac gum and xanthan gum as thickener, wherein the total proportion of thickener in the composition forming the impregnating agent is at most and in particular less than 0.1% by weight, preferably less than 0.07% by weight and particularly preferably less than 0.05% by weight, in each case based on the total weight of the composition.
[0024] In general, the impregnating agent according to the invention optionally contains, in addition to water, one or more surfactants, and one or more thickeners, other ingredients. The selection of ingredients can be adapted to various applications, particularly for cosmetic or cleaning applications, including the disinfection of skin or surfaces.
[0025] As an impregnating agent for cosmetic applications, the composition in particular also contains one or more ingredients that are independently selected from the group comprising or consisting of skin-care active ingredients, humectants, buffers, compounds with preservative properties, solvents, and perfume. As an impregnating agent for cleaning and, in particular, disinfecting applications, the composition preferably also contains one or more ingredients that are independently selected from the group comprising or consisting of antimicrobial active ingredients, biocidal active ingredients, humectants, skin-care active ingredients, buffers, compounds with preservative properties, solvents, and alcohols.
[0026] According to one embodiment, the composition forming the impregnating agent according to the invention contains humectants selected from the group consisting of glycerin and glucose. The total proportion of humectant is preferably 0.5-1.0 wt.%, based on the total weight of the composition.
[0027] According to one embodiment, the composition forming the impregnating agent according to the invention contains preservatives selected from the group consisting of sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and ethanol.
[0028] According to one embodiment, the composition forming the impregnating agent according to the invention contains one or more skin care active ingredients selected from the group consisting of Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract, ethylhexylglycerin, allantoin, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, lactic acid and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice.
[0029] The invention further relates to a wet wipe comprising or consisting of a nonwoven fabric impregnated with an impregnating agent according to the invention.
[0030] According to one embodiment, the nonwoven fabric contained in a wet wipe according to the invention consists of viscose fibers and / or lyocell fibers and / or PET fibers, ie it can either consist of 100% viscose fibers, lyocell fibers or PET fibers, or consist of mixed fibers thereof.
[0031] Optionally, the nonwoven fabric also contains microfibers and / or cotton fibers, for example in a proportion of up to 20% by weight each, in particular 0.1 - 5.0% by weight.
[0032] According to a preferred embodiment, the nonwoven fabric contained in the wet wipe according to the invention consists of viscose fibers and / or lyocell fibers and / or PET fibers and / or hemp fibers and / or cellulose fibers and / or flax fibers, and optionally additionally of 0.1 - 20.0 wt.% microfibers and / or 0.1 - 20.0 wt.% cotton fibers.

[0036] The invention further relates to a method for producing a wet wipe, comprising applying an impregnating agent to a nonwoven fabric, wherein the impregnating agent is a water-based composition containing at least 90% by weight of water, based on the total weight of the composition, as well as at least one surfactant and at least one thickener, wherein the proportion of thickener contained in the composition is at most 0.1% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, and wherein the viscosity of the composition at 20 °C is at most 12 mPas, in particular 8-12 mPas.
[0037] The nonwoven fabric used in the process according to the invention and the impregnating agent used in the process according to the invention are as described above with reference to the impregnating agent and the wet wipe, respectively. Detailed description of the invention
[0038] The invention will now be described in more detail by means of embodiments and with reference to the figures, which in the Figure 1 the influence of a thickener combination of Konjac Gum and Xanthan Gum on the foaming behavior of an embodiment of an impregnating agent according to the invention, in which Figure 2 the influence of a thickener combination of Konjac Gum and Xanthan Gum on the foaming behavior of another embodiment of an impregnating agent according to the invention, and in the Figure 3 show the influence of hydroxyethylcellulose as a thickener on the foaming behavior of another embodiment of an impregnating agent according to the invention. Example 1: Investigation of the influence of the thickener content in the impregnating agent according to the invention on its foaming behavior
[0039] To investigate the influence of the thickener content in a surfactant-containing impregnating agent, four impregnating agents were prepared with the compositions listed in Tables 1 to 4. The four impregnating agents were impregnating agents for wet wipes for cosmetic applications, each of which also contained humectants, buffers, preservatives, solvents, and a skin-care active ingredient.
[0040] The four impregnating agents differ in the proportion of thickener they contain:
[0041] The impregnating agent 1 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.04 wt.% konjac gum and 0.008 wt.% xanthan gum (see Table 1).
[0042] The impregnating agent 2 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.02 wt.% konjac gum and 0.004 wt.% xanthan gum (see Table 2).
[0043] The impregnating agent 3 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.01 wt.% konjac gum and 0.002 wt.% xanthan gum (see Table 3).
[0044] The impregnating agent 4 (non-inventive impregnating agent) contained neither konjac gum nor xanthan gum (see Table 4).
[0045] With the exception of the thickener content, all four impregnating agents contained the same compositions, with a lower thickener content being compensated by adding an appropriate amount of water. Table 1: Composition of impregnating agent 1 (impregnating agent according to the invention) with 0.04 wt.% Konjac Gum and 0.008 wt.% Xanthan Gum as thickener Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 97,2330 Glycerin 1,0325 Citric acid 0,4600 Cocoglucoside 0,4240 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3000 Perfume 0,1489 Konjac Gum 0,0400 Xanthan Gum 0,0080 Dipropylene glycol 0,0011 Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract 0,0005 Table 2: Composition of impregnating agent 2 (impregnating agent according to the invention) with 0.02 wt.% Konjac Gum and 0.004 wt.% Xanthan Gum as thickener Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 97,2570 Glycerin 1,0325 Citric acid 0,4600 Cocoglucoside 0,4240 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3000 Perfume 0,1489 Konjac Gum 0,0200 Xanthan Gum 0,0040 Dipropylene glycol 0,0011 Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract 0,0005 Table 3: Composition of impregnating agent 3 (impregnating agent according to the invention) with 0.01 wt.% Konjac Gum and 0.002 wt.% Xanthan Gum as thickener Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 97,2690 Glycerin 1,0325 Citric acid 0,4600 Cocoglucoside 0,4240 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3000 Perfume 0,1489 Konjac Gum 0,0100 Xanthan Gum 0,0020 Dipropylene glycol 0,0011 Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract 0,0005 Table 4: Composition of impregnating agent 4 (non-inventive impregnating agent) without a thickener content Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 97,2810 Glycerin 1,0325 Citric acid 0,4600 Cocoglucoside 0,4240 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3000 Perfume 0,1489 Konjac Gum 0,0000 Xanthan Gum 0,0000 Dipropylene glycol 0,0011 Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract 0,0005
[0046] The viscosity of each of the four impregnating agents was measured using a DIN 11 measuring system according to ISO 53019 at a temperature of 293.15 K and a rotational speed of 1000 rpm. The determined viscosities are listed in Table 5 below. Table 5: Viscosities of impregnating agents 1, 2, 3 and 4 Impregnating agent (TM) Viscosity [mPas] TM1 7 TM2 5 TM3 4 TM4 4
[0047] The viscosity values listed in Table 5 show that all three impregnating agents according to the invention (TM1, TM2, TM3), as well as the non-inventive impregnating agent TM4, exhibited a very low viscosity of 4 to 7 mPas. This is generally advantageous for impregnating nonwovens, although the respective impregnating agent should also exhibit good foaming behavior to be suitable for impregnating nonwovens, i.e., the impregnating agent should be characterized by low foam formation.
[0048] To investigate the foaming behavior of impregnating agent 1, 60 g of the impregnating agent was transferred to a 250 mL measuring cylinder. The measuring cylinder was sealed with a stopper and then shaken manually for 30 seconds. The hand secured the stopper while the forearm performed the shaking motion at a frequency of 1.5-2 up-and-down movements per second. After 30 seconds of standing time, the foam volume was determined. This was calculated as the height of the foam in the measuring cylinder minus the liquid height.
[0049] The foaming behavior of impregnating agents 2, 3 and 4 was determined in an analogous manner. The results of the tests are summarized in Table 6 below and in the Figure 1 shown graphically. Table 6: To compare the foaming behavior of impregnating agents 1, 2, 3 and 4, foam volume determined after 30 seconds of standing time Impregnating agent (TM) Foam volume [mL] TM1 90 TM2 110 TM3 130 TM4 170
[0050] From the results shown in Table 6 and in the Figure 1The results listed clearly show that the thickener content in the impregnating agent has a positive effect on the foaming behavior of the impregnating agent, significantly reducing it. The reduction in foaming behavior is greatest at the highest thickener content (in TM 1), amounting to approximately 47% compared to the corresponding impregnating agent without any thickener content (TM 4). However, even a comparatively low thickener content, which amounts to only 0.012% (in TM3), already results in a foam reduction of approximately 24% compared to the corresponding impregnating agent without any thickener content (TM 4). Example 2: Investigation of the influence of the thickener content in another impregnating agent according to the invention on its foaming behavior
[0051] To further investigate the influence of the thickener content in a surfactant-containing impregnating agent, three additional impregnating agents were prepared with the compositions listed in Tables 7 to 9. These three impregnating agents were impregnating agents for wet wipes for cosmetic applications, which, in addition to surfactants, also contained humectants, buffers, preservatives, solvents, and several skin-care active ingredients.
[0052] The three impregnating agents differ in the proportion of thickener they contain:
[0053] The impregnating agent 5 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.04 wt.% konjac gum and 0.008 wt.% xanthan gum (see Table 7).
[0054] The impregnating agent 6 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.02 wt.% konjac gum and 0.004 wt.% xanthan gum (see Table 8).
[0055] The impregnating agent 7 (non-inventive impregnating agent) contained neither konjac gum nor xanthan gum (see Table 9).
[0056] With the exception of the thickener content, all three impregnating agents contained the same compositions, with a lower thickener content being compensated by adding an appropriate amount of water. Table 7: Composition of impregnating agent 5 (impregnating agent according to the invention) with 0.04 wt.% Konjac Gum and 0.008 wt.% Xanthan Gum as thickener Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 96,5869 Propylene glycol 0,8134 Glycerin 0,7960 Citric acid 0,4601 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3004 Cocamidopropyl Betaine 0,1600 Perfume 0,1500 Ethylhexylglycerin 0,1000 Allantoin 0,1000 Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice 0,0971 Konjac Gum 0,0400 Sodium chloride 0,0260 Xanthan Gum 0,0080 Caprylyl / Caprylglucoside 0,0060 Butylene glycol 0,0015 Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract 0,0015 glucose 0,0004 Lactic acid 0,0004 Potassium sorbate 0,0003 Table 8: Composition of impregnating agent 6 (impregnating agent according to the invention) with 0.02 wt.% Konjac Gum and 0.004 wt.% Xanthan Gum as thickener Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 96,6109 Propylene glycol 0,8134 Glycerin 0,7960 Citric acid 0,4601 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3004 Cocamidopropyl Betaine 0,1600 Perfume 0,1500 Ethylhexylglycerin 0,1000 Allantoin 0,1000 Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice 0,0971 Konjac Gum 0,0200 Sodium chloride 0,0260 Xanthan Gum 0,0040 Caprylyl / Caprylglucoside 0,0060 Butylene glycol 0,0015 Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract 0,0015 glucose 0,0004 Lactic acid 0,0004 Potassium sorbate 0,0003 Table 9: Composition of impregnating agent 7 (non-inventive impregnating agent) without a thickener content Ingredient Portion / [Wt.%] Water 96,6349 Propylene glycol 0,8134 Glycerin 0,7960 Citric acid 0,4601 Sodium citrate 0,3520 Sodium benzoate 0,3004 Cocamidopropyl Betaine 0,1600 Perfume 0,1500 Ethylhexylglycerin 0,1000 Allantoin 0,1000 Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice 0,0971 Konjac Gum 0,0000 Sodium chloride 0,0260 Xanthan Gum 0,0000 Caprylyl / Caprylglucoside 0,0060 Butylene glycol 0,0015 Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract 0,0015 glucose 0,0004 Lactic acid 0,0004 Potassium sorbate 0,0003
[0057] To investigate the foaming behavior of impregnating agent 5, 60 g of the impregnating agent was transferred to a 250 mL measuring cylinder.
[0058] The foaming behavior of impregnating agents 6 and 7 was determined in an analogous manner. The results of the tests are summarized in Table 10 below and in the Figure 2 shown graphically. Table 10: To compare the foaming behavior of impregnating agents 6, 7 and 8, foam volume determined after 30 seconds of standing time Impregnating agent (TM) Foam volume [mL] TM5 110 TM6 116 TM7 220
[0059] From the results shown in Table 10 and in the Figure 2The results listed clearly show that the thickener content in the impregnating agent has a positive effect on the foaming behavior of the impregnating agent by significantly reducing it. The reduction in foaming behavior is greatest at the highest thickener content (in TM 5) and amounts to 50% compared to the corresponding impregnating agent without any thickener content (TM 7). However, even a thickener content that is only half as high, which (in TM 6) amounts to only 0.024% in total, results in a foam reduction of around 47% compared to the corresponding impregnating agent without any thickener content (TM 7). From this, it is concluded that only a very small proportion of thickener in the impregnating agent is required to achieve a large foam reduction, for example by 40-50%. The proportion of thickener in the impregnating agent according to the invention should therefore in any case be < 0.1% by weight, preferably < 0.09% by weight.-%, < 0.08 wt%, < 0.07 wt%, < 0.06 wt% or < 0.05 wt%. Example 3: Investigation of the influence of the thickener content in another impregnating agent according to the invention on its foaming behavior
[0060] To further investigate the influence of the thickener content in a surfactant-containing impregnating agent, three additional impregnating agents were prepared with the compositions listed in Tables 11 to 13. These three impregnating agents were impregnating agents for disinfectant wet wipes, which, in addition to surfactants, also contained buffers, preservatives, and biocidal active ingredients. For this example, two non-inventive impregnating agents were deliberately prepared for comparison: one containing a higher proportion of thickener than the impregnating agents according to the invention, and one containing no thickener at all.
[0061] The three impregnating agents therefore differ in the proportion of thickener they contain:
[0062] The impregnating agent 8 (non-inventive impregnating agent) contained 0.2 wt.% hydroxyethylcellulose (see Table 11).
[0063] The impregnating agent 9 (impregnating agent according to the invention) contained 0.1 wt.% hydroxyethylcellulose (see Table 12).
[0064] The impregnating agent 10 (non-inventive impregnating agent) did not contain any thickener (see Table 13).
[0065] With the exception of the thickener content, all three impregnating agents contained the same compositions, with a lower thickener content being compensated by adding an appropriate amount of water. [0066] To investigate the foaming behavior of impregnating agent 8, 60 g of the impregnating agent was transferred to a 250 mL measuring cylinder.
[0067] The foaming behavior of impregnating agents 9 and 10 was determined in an analogous manner. The results of the tests are summarized in Table 14 below and in the Figure 3 shown graphically. Table 14: To compare the foaming behavior of impregnating agents 8, 9 and 10, foam volume determined after 30 seconds of standing time Impregnating agent (TM) Foam volume [mL] TM8 160 TM9 150 TM10 190
[0068] From the results shown in Table 14 and in the Figure 3The results presented clearly show that the thickener content in the impregnating agent has a positive effect on the foaming behavior of the impregnating agent, significantly reducing it (by approximately 21% in the case of TM 9). In contrast, a 0.2% hydroxyethylcellulose thickener content only results in a smaller reduction in foaming behavior of approximately 16%.
[0069] Based on the findings from the previous two examples, it is to be expected that a lower content than 0.1% thickener in the impregnating agent would show an even greater reduction in foaming behavior than observed in TM 9. However, for this example, only relatively large thickener contents were selected to demonstrate that the reduction in foaming behavior of impregnating agents found according to the invention is not more pronounced by a thickener content above a thickener content of 0.1 wt.%, but rather is less pronounced.
[0070] The features of the invention disclosed in the above description, in the figures and in the claims may be essential both individually and in any combination for the realization of the invention in its various embodiments.
