Description
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of fixing 12V batteries in a motor vehicle.
[0002] Nowadays, 12V automotive batteries, of standard European format, are fixed either by their base, with a fixing flange resting on the heel-shaped area of the battery, or by the top of the battery with a fixing flange surrounding the upper part of the battery and fixed by means of nuts and tie rods tightened on a support.
[0003] However, it is important that the battery mounting flange does not rest on certain areas of the upper part, particularly on certain so-called "fragile" areas of the battery cover which generally have degassing systems.
[0004] So there is always some clearance between the mounting flange and the fragile area of the cover.
[0005] We can refer to document FR 2 963 480 - A1 which describes a strap-type 12V battery attachment system.
[0006] We also know the documents FR2377708, US 5, 222, 711 and document US 5, 052, 198 which describe battery fixing systems.
[0007] However, such solutions are particularly bulky, especially on the sides of the 12V battery.
[0008] Furthermore, these documents do not concern the fixing of a 12V battery with dimensions that meet European standards.
[0009] The available volume laterally around the battery is increasingly reduced in current motor vehicles, so that current solutions for fixing the battery from above can no longer be implemented due to lack of space.
[0010] There is a need to reduce the dimensions of 12V battery mounts in motor vehicles.
[0011] The objective of the invention is therefore to develop a system for fixing a compact 12V battery, capable of compensating for variations in battery height.
[0012] The invention relates to a 12 V battery assembly, battery support and fixing device comprising a fixing flange surrounding at least part of the battery, and in particular its cover, and a fixing tie rod mounted between the fixing flange and the battery support and capable of transmitting a prestressing force to said fixing flange by a screw / nut system with a vertical axis.
[0013] The fixing flange comprises a box for receiving the tie rod and the tie rod comprises a first lower end fixed to the battery support and a second upper end at right angles, following the axial axis of the battery, housed in an interior housing of the box and fixed to said box by the screw / nut system.
[0014] The axis of said screw / nut system is contained within the lateral space of the battery.
[0015] Advantageously, the fixing flange includes a cutout allowing the passage of a tightening tool to tighten the fixing flange with the tie rod.
[0016] The box is presented, for example, in the form of a hollow compartment delimited at least by an upper partition, substantially flat and horizontal, and two lateral partitions, substantially flat and vertical, each extending from one end of said upper partition, the partitions delimiting between them the internal housing for receiving the tie rod.
[0017] The box may also include a lower partition, substantially horizontal and flat, connected to the side partitions.
[0018] The lower partition allows the lower part of the housing to be closed and thus reinforces the fixing flange. In addition, this lower partition prevents contact between the fixing screw and the side surface of the cover when screwing.
[0019] The box may also include a transverse partition, substantially vertical and flat, for closing the interior housing. This closing partition makes it possible to reinforce the fixing flange.
[0020] The tie rod can be mounted in the housing from below the box.
[0021] In this example, the lower side parts of the mounting flange protrude slightly by a few millimeters, laterally beyond the side surfaces of the battery and in particular the cover.
[0022] Advantageously, the upper partition of the box comprises a through hole, with a vertical axis, for receiving a fixing screw of the screw / nut system. Thus, once the fixing flange is mounted on the battery, the vertical axis of the hole is contained within the space requirement of the battery.
[0023] According to one embodiment, the screw / nut system comprises the fixing screw secured to the tie rod and a nut screwed onto said screw, said screw comprising a head of the screw fixed, for example by welding or gluing, on the lower surface of the upper right-angled end of the tie rod and a threaded portion extending through the orifice of the box beyond the upper partition and cooperating with the nut.
[0024] The tie rod is thus mounted in the box of the fixing flange by guiding the guide pins in the corresponding grooves, then the nut of the screw / nut system is screwed from above onto the threaded part of the screw until it comes to rest on the upper surface of the upper partition of the box.
[0025] In this case, it is advantageous to provide a lower partition of the box in order to protect the battery cover from the end of the screw, especially when using large screws.
[0026] According to another embodiment, the screw / nut system comprises the fixing screw and a nut secured to the tie rod, said nut being fixed, for example by welding or gluing, on the lower surface of the upper partition of the box and cooperating by screwing with the screw.
[0027] The tie rod is mounted in the box of the fixing flange by guiding the guide pins into the corresponding grooves, then the screw of the screw / nut system is screwed from above onto the nut until the screw head rests on the upper surface of the upper partition of the box.
[0028] Thanks to the fixing of the nut on the tie rod, the screw is housed in the box and therefore does not extend beyond the said box.
[0029] According to the invention, the box comprises means for guiding the tie rod in the interior housing cooperating with corresponding guide studs provided on said tie rod.
[0030] According to one embodiment, the means for guiding the box comprise at least two zones stamped towards the outside of the box, respectively forming a substantially vertical groove.
[0031] According to another embodiment, the guiding means of the box comprise two additional zones stamped towards the outside of the box respectively forming a substantially horizontal groove extended by the substantially vertical groove.
[0032] The tie rod can be mounted in the housing from the lateral side of the box, following a first horizontal movement then a second vertical movement.
[0033] In this example, the lower side parts of the fixing flange do not protrude laterally beyond the side surfaces of the battery and in particular the cover, which allows for a reduced size of the fixing flange.
[0034] The guiding means are, for example, made on each of the side partitions of the box.
[0035] The tie rod can be mounted in the housing from below the box.
[0036] In this example, the lower side parts of the fixing flange do not protrude laterally beyond the side surfaces of the battery and in particular the cover, which allows for a reduced size of the fixing flange.
[0037] Advantageously, the tie rod comprises a substantially vertical and flat central portion extending between the battery support and the fixing flange, the central portion comprising the first lower end, curved outwards in the form of a hook, fixed to the battery support, in particular in a suitable notch, and the second upper end at right angles extending along the axial axis towards the battery.
[0038] For example, the second upper end of the tie rod comprises, on each of its lateral sides, a guide stud cooperating with the corresponding guide groove.
[0039] The tie rod may also comprise a reinforcing means in the form of a reinforcing bracket, for example comprising one or two reinforcing brackets connecting the second upper end to the central portion.
[0040] The central portion of the tie rod advantageously comprises a reinforcement extending in the opposite direction to the battery. Said reinforcement is, for example, in the form of a stamping creating an excess thickness of the central portion directed in the opposite direction to the battery.
[0041] The tie rod can be covered with an insulating coating. This prevents any risk of short circuit with the battery.
[0042] According to one embodiment, the fixing device comprises an electrically insulating device mounted between the fixing flange and the tie rod, at the level of the screw / nut system and comprises a through hole for the passage of the screw.
[0043] The insulating device is, for example, mounted between the upper surface of the upper partition of the box and the tightening nut or screw. In the latter example, the insulating device comprises a vertical conduit inserted into the hole in the box and in which the through hole is made.
[0044] The tie rod may also include, near its lower end, a transverse lug capable of cooperating with a vertical retaining tab provided on the battery support.
[0045] This way, the tie rod is held and cannot fall horizontally, making it easier to install the fixing device.
[0046] For example, the fixing flange comprises an upper central portion, substantially horizontal and flat, arranged above the battery, and in particular the central surface of the battery cover, while leaving a vertical clearance with the upper surface of the battery. The fixing flange further comprises a vertical portion extending from each of the ends of the central portion vertically towards a corresponding lateral surface of the battery cover, each of the vertical portions being extended by a lower lateral portion, substantially horizontal and flat, resting on a lateral surface of the cover, the receiving box of the tie rod being produced on each of the lower lateral portions of the fixing flange.
[0047] Thus, the offset along the vertical axis between the upper central part and the lower lateral parts corresponds to the offset along the vertical axis between the central surface and the lateral surfaces of the cover.
[0048] The cutout is, for example, made in the upper central part and the vertical part of the fixing flange.
[0049] The fixing flange is made, for example, by stamping a metal sheet.
[0050] The tie rod is made, for example, by stamping a metal sheet.
[0051] According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising a 12V battery comprising a battery support and a device for fixing the battery to the battery support as described previously.
[0052] Advantageously, the battery comprises a lower part housed in the battery holder and an upper part covered by a protective cover comprising a central, substantially horizontal, so-called "fragile" surface, covering sensitive elements of the battery and on which it is important not to transmit forces and two lateral surfaces, substantially horizontal, extending laterally on either side of the central surface and connected respectively to the central surface by a substantially vertical surface. Each of the vertical parts of the fixing flange bears axially on the corresponding vertical surface of the cover and each of the lower lateral parts of the fixing flange bears on the lateral surface of the cover.
[0053] Other aims, characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description, given solely by way of non-limiting example, and made with reference to the appended drawings in which: there figure 1 represents in perspective a battery fixed on a battery support by a fixing device according to an embodiment of the invention; the figure 2 illustrates a detail of the figure 1 ; THE figures 3a, 3b et 3c illustrate a fixing flange of a fixing device according to different embodiments; the figure 4a represents a tie rod of a fixing device according to one embodiment; the figure 4b represents the assembly of a fixing flange with the tie rod of the figure 4a ; there figure 5a represents a tie rod of a fixing device according to another embodiment; the figure 5b represents the assembly of a fixing flange with the tie rod of the figure 5a ; THE figures 6a et 6b are sectional views of the tie rod according to the figure 5a according to two embodiments; the figure 7a represents a sectional view of the assembly of a fixing flange with the tie rod of the figure 4a comprising an electrical insulation device; the figure 7b represents a sectional view of the assembly of a fixing flange with the tie rod of the figure 5a comprising an electrical insulation device; and the figures 8a et 8b respectively represent a front view and a side view of the lower end of a tie rod according to the invention fixed to the battery support.
[0054] As illustrated on the figure 1 , a 12V battery, referenced 10 as a whole, is intended to be integrated into a vehicle (not shown) requiring the use of a 12V battery, such as, for example, a motor vehicle, a maritime vehicle, an aircraft, a train, etc.
[0055] The battery 10 comprises a body 12 of generally parallelepipedal shape comprising a lower part 12a and an upper part 12b. The upper part 12b of the battery is covered by a protective cover 14. The cover 14 comprises a substantially horizontal central surface 14a called “fragile”, covering sensitive elements of the battery 10 and onto which it is important not to transmit forces. The cover 14 further comprises two substantially horizontal lateral surfaces 14b, 14c extending laterally on either side of the central surface 14a. The lateral surfaces 14b, 14c are arranged horizontally below the central surface 14a, so that the central surface 14a is connected respectively to the lateral surfaces 14b, 14c by a substantially vertical surface 14d, 14e extending vertically towards the lower part 12a of the battery 10.
[0056] The battery 10 is arranged in a battery support 16 of generally parallelepiped shape delimiting a cavity 16a for housing the lower part 12a of the battery 10.
[0057] In order to prevent any movement of the battery 10 in the vehicle, and in particular in the battery support 16, a fixing device 20 surrounds said battery 10 to fix it to said battery support 16.
[0058] As illustrated on the figures 1 et 2 , the device 20 for fixing the battery 10 on the battery support 16 comprises a fixing flange 22 surrounding a part of the cover 14 and a fixing tie rod 24 mounted between the fixing flange 22 and the battery support 16 and capable of transmitting a prestressing force to said fixing flange 22.
[0059] The fixing flange 22 is symmetrical with respect to the axis of symmetry of the battery 10. For the sake of clarity, only a part of the fixing flange 22 will be described in the remainder of the description.
[0060] The fixing flange 22 comprises a substantially horizontal and flat upper central part 26, arranged above the central surface 14a of the cover 14 of the battery 10, while leaving a vertical clearance ΔZ between said central surface 14a and said upper central part 26.
[0061] The fixing flange 22 further comprises a vertical portion 28 extending from each of the ends of the central portion 26 vertically towards the lateral surface 14b, 14c of the cover 14.
[0062] Each of the vertical parts 28 of the fixing flange 22 is extended by a lower lateral part 30, substantially horizontal and flat, resting on the lateral surface 14b, 14c of the cover 14.
[0063] Thus, the offset along the vertical axis Z between the upper central part 26 and the lower lateral parts 30 follows the offset along the vertical axis Z between the central surface 14a and the lateral surfaces 14b, 14c of the cover 14.
[0064] Each lower lateral part 30 of the fixing flange 22 comprises a box 32 for receiving the tie rod 24.
[0065] Three examples of box 32 are illustrated on the figures 3a, 3c, et 3c .
[0066] On the figure 3a , the box 32 is in the form of a hollow compartment delimited by an upper partition 34, substantially flat and horizontal, and two lateral partitions 36, 38, substantially flat and vertical, each extending from one end of said upper partition 34. The partitions 34, 36, 38 delimit between them a housing 32a in which the tie rod 24 is inserted.
[0067] The upper partition 34 comprises an orifice 34a, of axis Z1-Z1', passing through, capable of receiving a fixing screw 17 of a screw / nut system 18 which will be described later. Once the fixing flange 22 is mounted on the battery 10, the axis Z1-Z1' of the orifice 34a is contained within the space occupied by the battery 10.
[0068] Each of the side partitions 36, 38 comprises a guide means 36a, 38a for the tie rod 24. As illustrated in the figure 3a , the guide means 36a, 38a are in the form of a zone stamped towards the outside of the box 32 forming a vertical groove on the corresponding lateral partition 36, 38.
[0069] In this example, the tie rod 24 is mounted in the housing 32a from below the box 32.
[0070] In this example, the lower lateral parts 30 of the fixing flange 22 do not protrude laterally beyond the lateral surfaces 14b, 14c of the cover 14, which makes it possible to have a reduced size of the fixing flange 22.
[0071] The method of realization of the figure 3b , in which the same elements bear the same references, differs from the embodiment of the figure 3a only by the fact that the box 32 comprises a lower partition 40, substantially horizontal and flat, connected to the lateral partitions 36, 38. The lower partition 40 allows the lower part of the housing 32a to be closed and thus to reinforce the fixing flange 22. In addition, this lower partition 40 makes it possible to avoid contact of the fixing screw 17 with the lateral surface 14b, 14c of the cover 14 when screwing said fixing screw 17.
[0072] In this embodiment, the guide means are in the form of a first horizontal access groove 36b, 38b, extended by the second vertical groove 36a, 38a extending towards the upper partition 34. The tie rod 24 is mounted in the housing 32a by the lateral side of the box 32, following a first horizontal movement then a second vertical movement.
[0073] In this example, the lower lateral parts 30 of the fixing flange 22 do not protrude laterally beyond the lateral surfaces 14b, 14c of the cover 14, which makes it possible to have a reduced size of the fixing flange 22.
[0074] The method of realization of the figure 3c , in which the same elements bear the same references, differs from the embodiment of the figure 3a solely by the fact that the box comprises a transverse partition 42, substantially vertical and flat, for closing the housing 32a. This closing partition 42 makes it possible to reinforce the fixing flange 22.
[0075] In this example, the box 34 has no lower partition and the tie rod 24 is mounted in the housing 32a from below the box 32.
[0076] In this example, the lower lateral parts 30 of the fixing flange 22 protrude slightly by a few millimeters, laterally beyond the lateral surfaces 14b, 14c of the cover 14.
[0077] In all the illustrated embodiments, the fixing flange 22 comprises a cutout 22a made in the upper central part 26 and the vertical part 28 in order to allow the passage of a tightening tool 1 visible on the figures 4b And 5b , to tighten the fixing flange 22 with the tie rod 24.
[0078] The fixing flange 22 is produced, for example, by stamping a metal sheet.
[0079] The tie rod 24 is produced, for example, by stamping a metal sheet.
[0080] The tie rod 24 comprises a substantially vertical and flat central portion 44, extending between the battery support 16 and the fixing flange 22.
[0081] The central portion 44 comprises a first lower end 46, curved outwards in the form of a hook, fixed to the battery support 16, in particular in a suitable notch 16b. The central portion 44 of the tie rod 24 further comprises a second upper end 48 at right angles extending along the axis XX' towards the battery 10.
[0082] The second upper end 48 is intended to be housed in the internal housing 32a of the box 32 and is fixed to said box 32 by the screw / nut system 18, the axis Z1-Z1' of said screw / nut system 18 being contained in the lateral space of the battery 10.
[0083] As illustrated, the second upper end 48 of the tie rod 24 comprises, on each of its lateral sides, a guide stud 48a cooperating with the corresponding guide groove 36a, 38a; 36b, 38b.
[0084] The tie rod 24 also comprises, without limitation, a reinforcing means 48b in the form of a reinforcing bracket.
[0085] As illustrated, the reinforcing means 48b comprises two reinforcing brackets each connecting one side of the second upper end 48 to the central portion 44. Alternatively, it could be provided that the reinforcing means comprises a single bracket, for example located in the center of the second upper end 48.
[0086] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures 4a et 4b , the screw 17 of the screw / nut system 18 is integral with the tie rod 24. The screw 17 comprises a head of the screw 17 fixed, for example by welding or gluing, on the lower surface of the upper end at right angles 48 of the tie rod 24 and a threaded part 17b extending through the orifice 34a of the box 32 beyond the upper partition 34.
[0087] The tie rod 24 is mounted in the box 32 of the fixing flange 22 by guiding the guide studs 48a in the corresponding grooves 36a, 38a; 36b, 38b. Then, a nut 19 of the screw / nut system 18 is screwed from above onto the threaded part 17b of the screw 17 until it comes to bear on the upper surface of the upper partition 34 of the box 32.
[0088] The embodiment illustrated on the figures 5a et 5b , in which the same elements bear the same references, differs from the method of realization of the figures 4a et 4b solely by the fact that it is the nut 19 of the screw / nut system 18 which is integral with the tie rod 24. The nut 19 is fixed, for example by welding or gluing, on the lower surface of the upper end at right angles 48 of the tie rod 24.
[0089] The tie rod 24 is mounted in the box 32 of the fixing flange 22 by guiding the guide studs 48a in the corresponding grooves 36a, 38a; 36b, 38b. Then, the screw 17 of the screw / nut system 18 is screwed from above onto the nut 19 until the screw head 17a comes to bear on the upper surface of the upper partition 34 of the box 32.
[0090] Thanks to the fixing of the nut 19 on the tie rod 24, the screw 17 is housed in the box 32 and therefore does not extend beyond said box 32.
[0091] In this case, it is advantageous to provide a lower partition 40 of the box 32 in order to protect the cover 14 of the battery 10 from the end of the screw 17, in particular when using large screws.
[0092] The central portion 44 of the tie rod 24, seen in section on the figure 6a , comprises a reinforcement 44a extending towards the opposite of the outer face of the battery 10. The reinforcement 44a is presented here, in the form of a stamping creating an excess thickness of the central portion 44 directed towards the opposite of the outer face of the battery 10.
[0093] In the embodiment illustrated in the figure 6b , in which the same elements bear the same references, the tie rod 24 is covered with an insulating coating 50. Thus, any risk of short circuit with the battery 10 is avoided.
[0094] As illustrated on the figures 7a et 7b , in which the same elements bear the same references, an electrically insulating device 52 is mounted between the fixing flange 22 and the tie rod 24, at the level of the screw / nut system 18 and comprises a through hole 52a for the passage of the screw 17.
[0095] In the embodiment illustrated in the figure 7a , in which the screw 17 is integral with the tie rod 24, relating to the embodiment of the figures 4a et 4b , the insulating device 52 is mounted between the upper surface of the upper partition 34 of the box 32 and the clamping nut 19.
[0096] In the embodiment illustrated in the figure 7b , in which the nut 19 is integral with the tie rod 24, relating to the embodiment of the figures 5a et 5b , the insulating device 52 is mounted between the upper surface of the upper partition 34 of the box 32 and the screw 17. In this example, the insulating device 52 comprises a vertical conduit 52b inserted into the orifice 34a of the box 32 and in which the through orifice 52a is made.
[0097] In the embodiment illustrated in the figures 8a et 8b , in which the same elements bear the same references, the central portion 44 of the tie rod 24 comprises, near its lower end 46, a transverse lug 49 capable of cooperating with a vertical holding tab 16c provided on the battery support 16.
[0098] Thus, the tie rod 24 is retained and cannot fall horizontally, which facilitates the mounting of the fixing device 20.
[0099] Thanks to the present invention, the device for fixing the battery to the battery support is particularly compact and does not protrude or only slightly exceeds the lateral dimensions of the battery.
