Abstract
Description
Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to a method for applying an adhesive, according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a method is known from document US 6 802 904 B2.
[0002] Similar methods are also known, for example, from DE 199 18 741 A1, EP 3406 409 A1 or IT MO20 100 290. State of the art
[0003] Application methods, which usually involve adhesive application rollers, require contact between the edgebanding to be coated and the adhesive. Since the edgebanding is typically moved past the adhesive application unit in the feed direction during such processes, it must be ensured that a fed edgebanding strip is coated only on the section intended for bonding to the workpiece. Furthermore, a mechanism must always be in place to prevent the edgebanding from contacting the adhesive application unit if adhesive application is not desired. Finally, edgebanding is a component subject to tolerances and can exhibit varying thicknesses along its length. When feeding an edgeband to an adhesive application roller, variations in thickness along the length of the edgeband can lead to different amounts of adhesive being applied locally. This, too, must be avoided.
[0004] An arrangement that avoids the temporary application of adhesive to an edgeband is known from EP 3 533 573 A1. This arrangement includes a pivoting device that can be pivoted with a section between the edgeband and the adhesive application roller. However, a disadvantage of this design is that the feed of the edgeband must be interrupted to actuate the pivoting device. The invention
[0005] The object of the present invention is to provide a method for applying an adhesive to an edge banding in which the described disadvantages do not occur and with which tolerance-related changes in the thickness of the edge banding can also be compensated.
[0006] This problem is solved by a method for applying an adhesive to an edge band with the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments are found in the dependent claims.
[0007] The inventive method for applying an adhesive to an edge band can be carried out, in particular, using the adhesive application arrangement described below. The following steps are performed in the method: a. Providing an edge band, b. Changing the distance between the adhesive application device and the edge band, such that the edge band is moved into the effective area of the adhesive application device for the desired coating, c. Ending the coating process by moving the edge band out of the effective area of the adhesive application device.
[0008] The movement of the edge band into the working area of the adhesive application device is carried out via a control device, in particular a control roller, which is moved via an adjustment axis controlled by a machine control.
[0009] According to the invention, the thickness of the supplied edgeband is determined to control the adjustment axis for moving the control device. In this way, the control device can be readjusted via the controlled adjustment axis as needed to compensate for any changes in thickness.
[0010] An adhesive application arrangement usable within the framework of the inventive method for applying an adhesive, in particular a glue or hot melt adhesive, to edgebands comprises an adhesive supply device that provides an adhesive to an adhesive application device arranged in the area of the adhesive supply device. Furthermore, the adhesive application arrangement includes an edgeband guiding device designed to move the edgeband into the effective area of the adhesive application device for adhesive application. In this context, the effective area is understood to be the area in which the adhesive application device is enabled to coat at least a section of the edgeband with adhesive. The edgeband guiding device further comprises at least one control device, in particular a control roller, which is designed to bear against the side of the edgeband not to be coated with adhesive. This allows the edgeband to be guided between the at least one control device and the adhesive application device. The control device thus primarily serves to hold the edgeband in a defined relative position to the adhesive application device.
[0011] Furthermore, such an adhesive application arrangement includes a machine control system, wherein the at least one control roller is mounted on a movable unit which can be moved towards or away from the adhesive application device along an adjustment axis in one direction via an adjustment device controlled by the machine control system. The presence of the controlled adjustment axis allows the edgeband thickness to be taken into account by adjusting or regulating the distance between the at least one control roller and the adhesive application device, depending on the currently measured thickness. For this purpose, a corresponding measuring device for measuring the edgeband thickness can be provided on the adhesive application arrangement according to the invention. These movements cannot be performed with simple actuating cylinders, as these only allow two different settings (forward and backward).
[0012] In principle, the invention is independent of the type of adhesive application device. Preferably, this is an adhesive application roller or an adhesive application nozzle. Other forms of adhesive application device are also conceivable.
[0013] If it is provided that the adhesive application device is an adhesive application roller, according to a particular embodiment of the present invention it may be provided that the axis of rotation of at least one control device designed as a control roller runs parallel to the axis of rotation of the adhesive application roller.
[0014] Preferably, the adhesive application device can have two spaced-apart control rollers in its control unit, the axes of rotation of which are offset from each other with respect to the adjustment direction. This arrangement enables particularly optimal and precise guidance of the edge band in front of the adhesive application device.
[0015] Furthermore, the adhesive application arrangement can be designed to include a guide for the edgeband, which is particularly movable with the unit and especially designed as a control channel. Especially when the guide is designed as a control channel, the edgeband can be moved out of the effective area of the adhesive application device particularly easily by moving the entire unit using the controlled displacement axis. Advantageously, this can also be done during operation; stopping the edgeband feed is not necessary.
[0016] The guide can be designed such that an edge band guided and advanced therein is transported in a feed direction which is approximately perpendicular to the adjustment direction, and in particular also perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the adhesive application roller, provided that the adhesive application device includes an adhesive application roller. Method for implementing the invention
[0017] The invention is described below with reference to the one described in the Figures 1 and 2 The illustrated embodiment is explained in more detail. Figure 1 Figure 1 shows a schematic sectional view through an adhesive application arrangement that can be used in the method according to the invention in a first operating state in which the edge band is located outside the effective area of the adhesive application device. Figure 2 shows a to Figure 1 Similar representation of the adhesive application device in a second operating state, in which the edge band is located within the effective area of the adhesive application device.
[0018] The in the Figures 1 and 2The schematically depicted adhesive application arrangement includes an adhesive supply device 2, which may comprise an adhesive application device 1, for example in the form of an adhesive application roller 1 or an adhesive application nozzle. A fed edgeband 5, 7 is guided past the adhesive application device 1. 10 denotes the direction of rotation of the adhesive application roller 1 provided in the example shown. 11 denotes the feed direction of the edgeband 5, 7, which runs essentially at least partially parallel to direction X. 7 denotes the leading section, 5 the trailing section of the edgeband. An edgeband guide device (dashed line) serves to guide the edgeband, which includes at least one control device 3.1, 3.2, which in the example shown is designed as at least one control roller, and serves to guide the supplied edge band 7, 5 into the working area of the adhesive application device 1 and to hold it there. Furthermore, the edge band guide device has a guide 4, preferably designed as a channel, through which the edge band is guided. This guide 4 has at least one wall between the edge band 5, 7 and the adhesive application device 1, so that the edge band can be moved out of the working area of the adhesive application device 2 if necessary.
[0019] The control device 3.1, 3.2 is preferably mounted on a bearing device 8, which is preferably adjustable in a direction Y perpendicular to the axis X. The guide 4 may, but need not, also be arranged on this bearing device 8. The bearing device 8, and thus in the example shown the control device 3.1, 3.2 and also the guide 4, is guided so as to be slidable relative to a stationary base 6 and thus relocatable, as indicated by the arrow P. This relocation preferably occurs in the direction Y. The relocation is effected by a controlled adjustment axis 9, which can be controlled by a machine control system (not shown here). Furthermore, the device can have a measuring device that measures the thickness of the edge band 5, 7 or other process parameters.Depending on the thickness of the edge banding, the machine control can adjust the adjustment axis 9 accordingly, so that the edge banding 5, 7 always remains within the effective range of the adhesive application device 1 and changes in the amount of adhesive applied are avoided as far as possible.
[0020] In the Figure 1 In the illustration shown, the edge band is withdrawn from the working area of the adhesive application device 1, in which Figure 2 The edge band is positioned within the operating range of the adhesive application device 1 via the adjustment axis. If the adhesive application is to be interrupted, the control unit, together with the edge band 5, 7, can be moved away from the adhesive application device 1 via the adjustment axis 9, whereby the wall of the guide located between the adhesive application device 1 and the edge band 5, 7 ensures that the edge band can be pulled away from the adhesive application device 1.
[0021] Since the adjustment axis 9 is a controlled axis, the edgeband can be moved into or out of the effective area of the adhesive application device 1 at any time during the ongoing process. Furthermore, this makes it possible to react to tolerance-related changes in the thickness of the edgeband by adjusting the control device, thus ensuring a uniform adhesive application.
