AI Technical Summary
Existing methods for attaching a lens to a motor vehicle headlight housing using vibration welding face challenges in tight spaces, such as tail lights, where dividers or panels obstruct light distribution, leading to undesirable false light due to the required minimum distance in spatial planes.
A method involving a motor vehicle headlight housing with first and second light modules, a diaphragm, and a cover lens with projection sections and an opaque section, allowing for assembly adjustments using screws to prevent light coupling during initial positioning and ensuring proper light distribution upon vibration welding.
Enables accurate light distribution and attachment of the lens to the headlight housing without interference, maintaining the intended light functions even in constrained spaces by controlling light coupling through mechanical and optical separation.

Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a method for fastening a cover lens for a motor vehicle headlight to a motor vehicle headlight housing.
[0002] The prior art method for attaching a cover lens for a motor vehicle headlight to a dedicated headlight housing is vibration welding, whereby a minimum distance must be maintained in all spatial planes between parts not to be welded. Such a method is known from US 2017 / 234503 A.
[0003] In particular, headlights which are intended to produce at least two lighting functions or light distributions are designed in such a way that, in the best case, a chamber which is at least optically closed is provided for each lighting function.
[0004] However, the above-mentioned condition regarding vibration welding creates a problem when headlights have limited installation space, such as rear lights intended to generate one or more indicator light distributions. This is especially true for dividers or panels intended to separate the individual light modules for generating the light distributions or lighting functions. Due to the minimum distance required during vibration welding, this can no longer fulfill its function. This results in unwanted, inaccurate light.
[0005] It is an object of the invention to provide an improved method for fastening a cover lens for a motor vehicle headlight to a motor vehicle headlight housing.
[0006] This task is solved by the fact that the procedure mentioned comprises the following steps in chronological order: a. Providing a motor vehicle headlight housing, wherein the following is arranged in the motor vehicle headlight housing: a first light module, which contributes to generating a first light distribution, a second light module, which contributes to generating a second light distribution, a cover plate, which is arranged between the first and second light modules, wherein the cover plate is arranged in such a way that the direct coupling of light emitted by one of the light modules into another light module is prevented, a holding body, on which the first and second light modules and the cover plate are arranged, wherein the holding body, the first and second light modules and the cover plate form an assembly, and wherein the assembly can be brought into an assembly position in the motor vehicle headlight housing and into an end position deviating from the assembly position, and providing a cover plate, which has a first projection section and a second projection section, which first and second projection sections are at least partially translucent, wherein the first projection section is assigned to the first light module and, in combination with the first light module, is configured to generate the first light distribution, and wherein the second projection section is assigned to the second light module and, in combination with the second light module, is configured to generate the second light distribution, wherein the cover plate has an opaque section which is arranged between the first and second projection sections and is configured to optically and spatially separate the first and second projection sections from one another, so that the light coupled into one projection section is prevented from coupling into the other projection section,b. Transferring the assembly into the assembly position with respect to the motor vehicle headlight housing, wherein in the assembly position the assembly is pre-positioned such that the cover is free from mechanical contact with the opaque portion of the cover during the subsequent fixing of the cover lens in a fixing position on the motor vehicle headlight housing according to step c). c. Transferring the cover lens to the motor vehicle headlight housing into the fixing position and then fixing the cover lens to the motor vehicle headlight housing by means of vibration welding. d. Transferring the assembly into the final position, wherein in the final position the assembly is arranged such that the cover extends continuously to the opaque portion and is in mechanical contact with the opaque portion of the cover lens.so that coupling of light from one light module into a projection section of the cover plate assigned to the other light module is prevented.
[0007] It may be provided that the transfer of the assembly into the assembly position in step b) and into the final position in step c) is carried out using adjusting screws.
[0008] It may be provided that the adjusting screws are accessible from outside the vehicle headlight housing.

[0011] Furthermore, the motor vehicle headlight housing comprises 200 an aperture 230 which is located between the first and second light module 210 , 220 is arranged, whereby the aperture230 is arranged in such a way that the direct coupling of one of the light modules 210 , 220 emitting light into another light module is prevented.
[0012] In addition, a holding body is provided on which the first and second light module 210 , 220 and the aperture 230 are arranged, wherein the holding body, the first and second light modules 210 , 220 and the aperture 230 form an assembly, and wherein the assembly in the motor vehicle headlight housing 200 into an assembly position P1 and in a position different from the mounting position P1 different end position P2 can be brought.
[0013] Furthermore, a cover plate 100 provided, which has a first projection section 110 and a second projection section 120 which first and second projection section 110, 120 are at least partially translucent, wherein the first projection section 110 the first light module 210 and in combination with the first light module 210 is arranged to generate the first light distribution, and wherein the second projection section 120 the second light module 220 and in combination with the second light module 220 is set up to generate the second light distribution.
[0014] The cover plate 100 also has an opaque section 130 which is located between the first and second projection section 110 , 120 is arranged and arranged to form the first and second projection sections 110 , 120to separate them optically and spatially from each other so that the light coupled into one projection section is prevented from coupling into the other projection section.
[0015] In a next step b) the assembly is mounted in relation to the motor vehicle headlight housing 200 into the assembly position P1 transferred, which mounting position P1 in Fig. 1 is shown, where in the mounting position P1 the assembly is pre-positioned in such a way that the aperture 230 during the subsequent fixing of the cover lens according to step c) 100 in a fixing position on the motor vehicle headlight housing 200 free from mechanical contact with the opaque section 230 the cover lens 100 is, ie the aperture 230 does not reach the opaque section 130 the cover lens 100 , if the cover lens 100for fixing to the vehicle headlight housing 200 is applied.
[0016] The cover plate is then 100 in a step c) to the motor vehicle headlight housing 200 into the fixing position and then connected to the vehicle headlight housing 200 fixed by vibration welding.
[0017] In a subsequent step d) the assembly is moved to the final position P2 transferred, which final position P2 in Fig. 2 is shown, where in the final position P2 the assembly is arranged in such a way that the aperture 230 extending to the opaque section 130 and in mechanical contact with the opaque section 130 the cover plate, so that coupling of light from one light module into a projection section assigned to the other light module 110 , 120the cover lens 100 is prevented.
