Abstract
Description
Technical field
[0001] The present development relates to a motor vehicle headlight with at least one decorative element, in particular with a decorative strip or frame arranged on a headlight lens. background
[0002] Implementing design specifications in automotive exteriors requires innovative solutions, particularly regarding the attachment of different components and materials. For example, attaching a decorative element to a headlight lens proves exceptionally complex. Attaching decorative elements to a headlight often necessitates the use of special fasteners, such as brackets or clips specifically designed for the decorative element. The use of such fasteners can sometimes lead to scratches on the headlight lens, potentially damaging the lens or its coating.
[0003] Furthermore, the use of separate mounting brackets for a decorative element has a negative impact on compliance with installation or assembly tolerances, as it extends the tolerance chain. The use of separate or multiple joining or fastening parts also proves to be complex and time-consuming from an assembly perspective. Using separate mounting parts to attach a decorative element to the headlight requires handling a corresponding number of parts. Separate fastening elements, such as support elements for attaching a decorative element to the headlight or headlight housing, often lack sufficient mechanical stability and rigidity over the headlight's lifetime to permanently hold the decorative element or trim strip in the required position or shape. The rigidity of such fastening elements is limited by pedestrian safety requirements.Sufficient mechanical stiffness often cannot be achieved due to the limited installation space available.
[0004] The prior art includes DE 10 2004 025 232 A1 and DE 10 2004 026 467 A1.
[0005] The present development therefore aims to provide an improved vehicle headlight with a decorative element that is particularly easy, durable, and cost-effective to attach to the headlight. The installation space required for attaching the decorative element should be reduced to a minimum. Manufacturing and assembly costs, as well as assembly effort, should also be minimized.
[0006] This problem is solved with a motor vehicle headlight, a motor vehicle, and a method for attaching a decorative element to a motor vehicle headlight according to the features of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments are the subject of dependent claims.
[0007] In this respect, a motor vehicle headlight is provided with a headlight lens and a decorative element. The decorative element is attached directly to one of the outer surfaces of the headlight lens by adhesive. Specifically, the decorative element is fixed or can be fixed to the outer surface of the headlight lens exclusively by means of an adhesive. This direct adhesive attachment, achieved solely by means of an adhesive, creates a joint or corresponding joint area extending over a large portion of the decorative element, through which the decorative element is directly and materially bonded to the outer surface of the headlight lens.
[0008] Such a method, for example, a nearly full-surface, reciprocal adhesive bond between the decorative element and the headlight lens, enables a durable, potentially permanent, reciprocal connection between the decorative element and the headlight lens. This also ensures that the decorative element maintains an unchanged position throughout the entire lifespan of the headlight or headlight lens and is subject to no, or only minimal, deformation. Furthermore, the direct adhesive bonding of the decorative element to the outside of the headlight lens eliminates the need for separate fastening elements, such as clips or separate mechanical supports for the decorative element. This reduces the number of components required for headlight assembly, which also leads to increased efficiency in the manufacturing process.Furthermore, eliminating separate fastening elements saves weight and installation space for attaching the decorative element to the headlight lens. This reduces manufacturing costs and the weight of the headlight.
[0009] According to the invention, in its mounted position on the headlight lens, the decorative element has an inner surface facing the headlight lens and is bonded to the outer surface of the headlight lens via its inner surface. In the final mounted position, an adhesive is present between the inner surface of the decorative element and the outer surface of the headlight lens. A mutual adhesive bond between the inner surface of the decorative element and the outer surface of the headlight lens is achieved solely through this adhesive. Typically, and for the method of mounting the decorative element on the vehicle headlight, the adhesive is applied exclusively to the inner surface of the decorative element before joining the decorative element and the headlight lens. The decorative element, now coated with the adhesive, is then brought to the outer surface of the headlight lens and fixed there, for example, by pressing it into place. In the final assembly position, the decorative element and the headlight lens can be fixed and positioned relative to each other using templates provided for this purpose, until the adhesive has cured.
[0010] In a further embodiment, the decorative element features a centering receptacle on its inner surface, which corresponds to a centering projection on the outer surface of the headlight lens. The centering receptacle is precisely designed to fit the centering projection. The centering projection can be inserted into the centering receptacle to ensure correct lateral positioning of the decorative element and the headlight lens. The centering projection, which also protrudes from the outer surface of the headlight lens as a centering dome, can, for example, have a conical cross-section or at least a cross-section with a bevel in certain areas, which corresponds to or complements a conical cross-section or a corresponding bevel on the centering receptacle.
[0011] A conical recess and a conical extension enable correct mutual alignment of the decorative element and headlight lens during the assembly process. Corresponding inclined surfaces on the inside of the centering recess and on the outside of the centering extension ensure correct positioning of the decorative element in a plane perpendicular to the surface normal of the headlight lens or perpendicular to the longitudinal extent of the centering extension.
[0012] In an alternative embodiment, the decorative element may have a centering projection on its inner side, which corresponds to or complements a centering receptacle provided on the outer side of the headlight lens. Here too, the centering projection and the centering receptacle may, as previously described, have a conical or at least partially oblique cross-section or a corresponding cross-sectional contour in order to align the decorative element relative to the headlight lens in the plane perpendicular to the longitudinal extent of the centering projection during the assembly process.
[0013] In a further embodiment, the decorative element has at least two centering receptacles or centering processes arranged at a predetermined distance from each other, which correspond to corresponding centering processes or centering receptacles on the outside of the headlight glass.
[0014] Several centering receptacles or centering projections can be formed or provided, particularly on opposite end sections of the decorative element. This allows for a particularly simple yet precise mutual alignment and fastening of the decorative element and the headlight lens.
[0015] According to the invention, the inner surface of the decorative element is essentially flat and has at least two spacers projecting from the plane of the inner surface. The spacers can be designed as rounded, approximately convex, projections that project from the flat inner surface of the decorative element and, in the mounted position on the headlight lens, come into direct contact with the headlight lens.
[0016] The rounded, roughly spherical or semi-spherical design of the spacers prevents damage or scratching of the headlight lens during the installation process. The spacers also allow for the definition and adjustment of a specific gap between the inside of the trim element and the outside of the headlight lens, ensuring sufficient space for the adhesive between these two surfaces. Furthermore, the spacers prevent a predetermined minimum distance between the inside of the trim element and the outside of the headlight lens from being undercut, which could otherwise lead to the adhesive being squeezed out during installation.
[0017] In a further embodiment, the decorative element features a longitudinally extending trim strip arranged in an edge region of the headlight lens. The trim strip can, in particular, have a longitudinally extending profile section or be designed as a longitudinally extending profile section. The trim strip is specifically arranged at the edge of the headlight lens and thus forms an edge trim for the headlight lens. With regard to its subsequent installation position on the vehicle, the decorative element typically extends along an upper and / or a lower outer edge of the externally visible area of the headlight lens.
[0018] In a further embodiment, the decorative element forms an edge-side surround for the headlight lens, comprising several adjacent legs. For example, the decorative element can form a kind of frame or a frame-like surround for the headlight lens. In some embodiments, the decorative strip can have a first leg, a second leg, and a third leg. The first and third legs can, for example, extend essentially parallel to each other. The first and third legs can be designed to be essentially straight or approximately straight. The second leg can extend between the first and third legs and thus function as a connecting leg between them.
[0019] The decorative element can form a U-shaped trim strip. In other embodiments, the trim strip can also form a closed frame that encloses the entire edge of the vehicle headlight or its lens. In a U-shaped design, the decorative element specifically includes an upper edge, a lower edge, and an outer edge of the lens located laterally to the side of the vehicle. The inner edge of the lens, located laterally to the side of the vehicle and adjacent to a radiator grille or front panel, can be free of a decorative element.
[0020] Following a further refinement, the decorative element is designed as a plastic injection-molded component. This design allows for particularly cost-effective mass production. The injection-molded plastic construction enables virtually any shape for the decorative element, adaptable to the design specifications of the vehicle headlight. The injection molding process also allows for the creation of recesses, receptacles, or projections, such as those on the inside of the decorative element, at virtually no additional cost. These features can be used, for example, to create the aforementioned centering receptacle or projection. Similarly, the inside of the decorative element can be provided with one or more recesses designed to hold adhesive during the injection molding process, eliminating the need for any separate manufacturing steps.
[0021] In a further refinement, the outer surface of the decorative element is coated with a metal finish. In particular, the outer surface can be coated with chrome, giving the decorative element a metallic appearance. Specifically, the outer surface of the decorative element can provide a certain glossy effect and thus have a metallic sheen. This gives the vehicle headlight a particularly high-quality appearance and exterior design.
[0022] In a further embodiment of the vehicle headlight, the decorative element has at least one adhesive receptacle on its inner surface, designed as a recess. This adhesive receptacle can be designed as a recess relative to the essentially flat inner surface. In particular, the recess can be configured as a kind of pocket into which the adhesive for attaching the decorative element to the headlight lens can be applied and held.
[0023] A recessed area and adhesive receptacle allow for an increase in the amount of adhesive used to attach the decorative element. This recessed area increases the total amount of adhesive required to fix and secure the decorative element to the headlight lens, resulting in a better and more durable attachment.
[0024] In a further embodiment, at least one projection rising from the plane of the headlight lens is formed on the outer surface of the lens. When the decorative element is mounted on the headlight lens, this projection rests within at least one adhesive receptacle. The projection can extend, in particular, parallel to the surface normal of a light-emitting surface of the headlight lens. It does not necessarily have to lie in the plane of the headlight lens. The projection can be provided or formed, in particular, in an edge region of the headlight lens that is recessed relative to the light-emitting surface. The projection can be formed integrally with the headlight lens. It can be designed as a single component of the headlight lens.
[0025] The headlight lens can be made of injection-molded plastic. In particular, the headlight lens can be made of polycarbonate. This allows for the integration of a mounting bracket for installation in or at the edge of the headlight lens. In other embodiments, the headlight lens, or the disc covering the headlight on the outside, is made of a glass material.
[0026] The extension of the headlight lens allows for an increase in the mutual contact surfaces of the headlight lens that are either encased in adhesive or come into contact with adhesive. The extension typically has opposing side flanges that, in the final assembly state, are at least partially encased in adhesive. These side flanges of the extension thus form an adhesive surface that, in the final assembly state, lies within the adhesive receptacle.
[0027] During assembly, it is specifically intended that at least one extension formed on the headlight lens is pressed into the adhesive-filled receptacle on the inside of the decorative element. The receptacle can be completely or partially filled with adhesive before or during the assembly process. Upon reaching the final assembly position and when the extension rising from the headlight lens is immersed, only the amount of adhesive corresponding to the volume of the extension is displaced from or within the receptacle.
[0028] Advantageously, several adhesive receptacles, each designed as a recess and spaced apart, are provided on the inside of the decorative element, corresponding to corresponding projections on the headlight lens. The adhesive receptacles and their corresponding projections can be staggered and spaced apart, particularly in the edge area of the headlight lens and along the length of the decorative element.
[0029] The specific number and geometric design of the adhesive receptacles and corresponding extensions define the holding force for the decorative element on the headlight lens for the respective adhesive. By varying the number and / or geometries of extensions and complementary or corresponding adhesive receptacles on the headlight lens side and on the decorative element side, the required holding and adhesive forces for the respective decorative element can be adjusted and, if necessary, modified as needed.
[0030] In a further embodiment, at least one extension has a longitudinal extent along the decorative element that is greater than its height along, or substantially parallel to, the surface normal of the headlight lens. In particular, the at least one extension can be designed as a kind of blade, extending as a longitudinal ridge with an approximately constant cross-sectional profile along the longitudinal direction of the outer edge of the headlight lens. The longitudinal extent of the extension typically coincides with, or runs parallel to, the longitudinal extent of the respective decorative element or a section thereof.
[0031] In a further design of the vehicle headlight, the headlight lens or transparent headlight disc has a substantially flat or convexly curved light-emitting surface adjacent to the edge. With respect to the surface normal of the light-emitting surface, the edge is stepped and recessed. In other words, one outer surface of the edge is recessed relative to the outer surface of the light-emitting surface. Such a stepped or staggered design of the edge is advantageous for a flush mounting of the decorative element with the light-emitting surface.
[0032] In a further design of the vehicle headlight, the outer surface of the decorative element is flush with the outer surface of the light-emitting surface. In this respect, the outer surface of the decorative element forms an essentially flush extension of the light-emitting surface. This can be achieved in particular by the recessed and stepped design of the edge of the headlight lens, to which the decorative element is, or will be, adhesively attached.
[0033] According to another aspect, the present development concerns a motor vehicle with a body on which at least one previously described headlight is mounted. Typically, this headlight is a front headlight. In addition to the lens, the headlight typically comprises a housing and at least one light source located inside the housing. The light emitted by the light source can propagate through the lens and typically illuminate an area in front of the vehicle as needed.
[0034] In another respect, the present development concerns a method for mounting a previously described motor vehicle headlight. The method is characterized by the fact that, on the one hand, a headlight lens and, on the other hand, a decorative element are provided. An adhesive is then applied to the inner surface of the decorative element, followed immediately by the adhesive bonding of the decorative element to the outer surface of the headlight lens. All previously described features, effects, and advantages relating to the motor vehicle headlight and the motor vehicle apply equally to the method for its mounting; and vice versa. Brief description of the characters
[0035] Further objectives, features, and advantageous embodiments of the present development are explained in the following description of an exemplary implementation. These will show: Fig. 1 a schematic side view of a motor vehicle, Fig. 2 a schematic top view of a headlight, Fig. 3 an inside view of a decorative element to be attached to the headlight lens, Fig. 4 a schematic representation of the in Fig. 2 headlight glass shown with a decorative element attached to it according to Fig. 3 , Fig. 5 a cross-section AA according to Fig. 2 , Fig. 6 a cross-section BB according to Fig. 2 , Fig. 7 a cross-section CC according to Fig. 3 , Fig. 8 a cross-section DD according to Fig. 3 , Fig. 9 a cross-section EE according to Fig. 4 , Fig. 10 an enlarged view of a in Fig. 2 The extension shown in the lower right and Fig. 11 a flowchart of a method for mounting the motor vehicle headlight. Detailed description
[0036] The in Fig. 1 The motor vehicle 1 shown has a motor vehicle body 2 with an interior 3 functioning as a passenger compartment. The motor vehicle 1 also has two motor vehicle headlights 5 at its front end, i.e., at its front. Fig. 2 A motor vehicle headlight 5 is schematically indicated. The motor vehicle headlight 5 has a headlight housing 8, shown only with dashed lines, which, in relation to its later installation position on the motor vehicle 1 in the direction of travel, is provided with a headlight lens 6 or with a corresponding transparent disc. At least one light source is located in the interior of the headlight housing 8 (not shown). The light emitted by the light source can propagate through the headlight lens 6 and, in particular, illuminate the area in front of the motor vehicle.
[0037] The illustrated embodiment relates to a headlight. However, the present development is not limited to headlights; it can equally apply to any other lighting devices, such as a reversing light, a taillight, or similar lighting arrangements on the exterior of a motor vehicle.
[0038] In Fig. 2 The headlight lens 6 is shown schematically only as a slightly curved disc. The headlight lens has, in particular, a rim 7 pointing in the direction of travel, to which a decorative element 10 is to be attached, as is the case, for example, in Fig. 4 The decorative element 10 is designed here as a decorative strip 11 or as a frame 12. The decorative element 10 has several legs 13, 15, 17, which form a kind of U-shaped decorative element 10. The decorative element 10 has a first leg 13, which extends along a lower edge area 7 of the headlight lens 6. A third leg 17 adjoins this, which is located in the Fig. 4 The final assembly position shown extends along an outer edge area 7 of the headlight glass 6 lying in the transverse direction (y) of the vehicle.
[0039] A second leg 15 is attached to the end of the third leg 17 facing away from the first leg 13, extending along an upper edge region 7 of the headlight lens 6. In the illustrated embodiment, the first leg 13 and the second leg 15 extend essentially parallel to each other. The legs 13, 17, 15 are formed in one piece or are an integral part of a U-shaped decorative frame, which can be adhesively attached to an outer surface 9 of the headlight lens 6 in a single assembly step using an adhesive. An adhesive, not explicitly shown here, is provided for this adhesive attachment, by which the decorative element 10 can be attached to the outer surface 9 of the headlight lens 6 exclusively, i.e., solely by means of the adhesive.
[0040] The decorative element 10 has an inner surface 16 facing the headlight lens 6 in the mounting position, which in Fig. 3 As shown, the decorative element 10 has an outer surface 14 opposite it. The outer surface 14 is preferably provided with a coating 18. The coating 18 can be, in particular, a metal coating, for example, a chrome coating. It gives the decorative element a metallic, shiny appearance.
[0041] On the inner surface 16, several recesses or cup-shaped receptacles 20, 21, 22 are provided. These receptacles 20, 21, 22 function as adhesive receptacles. The adhesive provided for the bonding can be positioned in the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22. In other words, all or only some of the receptacles 20, 21, 22 can be filled either completely or partially with the adhesive. Furthermore, a centering receptacle 24 is provided on the inner surface 16, preferably at a free end or at opposite free ends of the decorative element 10. This centering receptacle is designed or configured to be complementary to or corresponding with a centering projection 34 on the outer surface 9 of the headlight lens 6.
[0042] The cross-sectional geometry of the centering extension 34 corresponds to the cross-sectional geometry of the centering receptacle 24. In the final assembly position, the inner volume or interior space of the centering receptacle 24 is almost completely filled by the centering extension 34. As can be seen in particular in the cross-section of the Fig. 5 und 7 As shown, the centering process 34 has an external bevel 35 which corresponds to a complementary or corresponding bevel 25 on an inner side of the centering receptacle 24. Thus, the centering receptacle 24 and the centering process 34 together can have a conical or at least partially inclined cross-sectional profile, which allows for correct positioning perpendicular to the longitudinal extent of the centering process 34 when it is inserted into the centering receptacle.
[0043] Several spacers 26 are formed on the underside, i.e., on the inner surface 16 of the decorative element 10. These protrude or project at least slightly from the essentially flat inner surface 16 of the decorative element 10. The spacers can have an outwardly curved or convex cross-sectional contour and prevent the otherwise planar inner surface 16 of the decorative element 10 from directly contacting the outer surface 9 of the headlight lens 6. By means of the spacers 26, which can be integrally formed with the decorative element, the decorative element 10 can be adhesively fixed to the outer surface 9 of the headlight lens 6 while maintaining a predetermined gap.
[0044] For the adhesive attachment of the decorative element 10 to the headlight lens 6, several projections 30, 31, 32 are provided on the side of the headlight lens 6, particularly in an edge region 7, extending away from the plane of the edge region 7. The projections 30, 31, 32 have a geometry corresponding to the respective adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22. However, the volume or displacement of the projections 30, 31, 32 is less than the size or volume of the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22.
[0045] The adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22, which are at least partially filled with adhesive, can receive the respective extensions 30, 31, 32 provided for this purpose. Thus, during an adhesive joining operation of the decorative element 10 and the headlight lens 6, the extensions 30, 31, 32 can be inserted into the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22, which are at least partially filled with adhesive. In this process, the extensions can, for example, Fig. 10 The side cheeks 36 or end cheeks 38 of each extension 30, 31, 32 shown come into at least partial contact with the adhesive. The extension of the extensions 30, 31, 32 and the formation of the opposing side cheeks 36 or end cheeks 38 increase the effective bonding surface provided on the side of the headlight lens 6. This effectively improves adhesive adhesion.
[0046] In the example of the Fig. 2 and 3 The figure shows that the geometries of the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22 as well as the geometries of the corresponding extensions 30, 31, 32 can vary. Thus, different adhesive forces can be achieved between the decorative element 10 and the headlight lens 6.
[0047] In Fig. 9 The schematic representation shows that the edge area 7 of the headlight lens 6, intended for the attachment and arrangement of the decorative element 10, is stepped or recessed relative to a light-emitting surface 4 of the headlight lens. The offset can essentially correspond to the height of the decorative element 10, so that upon reaching the Fig. 9 In the final assembly position shown in the cross-section, an outer surface 14 of the decorative element 10 is essentially flush with the light emission surface 4 of the headlight lens 6 adjacent to it laterally. It is further conceivable and intended that, unlike in Fig. 9 The decorative element 10, with its outer surface 14, is shown to fit seamlessly and largely without joints against the light emission surface 4 of the headlight glass.
[0048] In Fig. 11 Finally, a flowchart for the assembly process of the motor vehicle headlight 5 is schematically shown. In a first step 100, both the decorative element 10 and the headlight lens 6 are prepared. In the subsequent step 102, the adhesive is applied to the inner surface 16 of the decorative element 10. Preferably, the adhesive is placed into the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22 provided for this purpose. In a subsequent step 104, the decorative element 10 is pressed against the outer surface 9 of the headlight lens, whereby the projections 30, 31, 32 of the headlight lens 6 are at least partially immersed in the adhesive located in the adhesive receptacles 20, 21, 22. Once a final assembly position is reached, the decorative element 10 and the headlight lens 6 can be fixed to each other, at least temporarily, for example by means of suitable templates, until the adhesive has cured.
[0049] The illustrated embodiments merely demonstrate possible configurations of the development, for which numerous further variants are conceivable during development. The exemplary embodiments shown are in no way to be interpreted as limiting with regard to the scope, applicability, or configuration possibilities of the development. The present description merely shows the person skilled in the art one or a few possible implementation(s) of an embodiment. Thus, a wide variety of modifications can be made to the function and arrangement of the described elements without departing from the scope of protection defined by the following claims.
