Abstract
Description
[0001] Valve for aerosol containers and aerosol containers with valve
[0002] The invention relates to a valve for aerosol containers for dispensing and dosing an aerosol from an aerosol container and to an aerosol container having a corresponding valve.
[0003] Many designs of valves for aerosol containers are already known, which generally seal the aerosol line from the container interior to the nozzle arranged in a spray head in a basic state and open this line when pressure is applied to the spray head, so that the aerosol is released.
[0004] The basic state of the valve is usually maintained by means of a spring element that positions an outlet element relative to a sealing element in such a way that the aerosol line is sealed.
[0005] In known embodiments of such valves for aerosol containers, the spring element is often implemented as a compression spring made of metal.
[0006] When recycling recyclable materials, it is important to ensure the highest possible degree of recyclability that the materials can be separated as effectively as possible, ideally enabling further processing of the materials. To achieve this, the material to be recycled is pre-sorted using magnets / electromagnets, and plastic packaging, for example, is sorted using near-infrared radiation (NIR radiation) based on its reflectance. Furthermore, in the interest of recyclability, it is generally desirable to use as few different materials as possible in a packaging, such as a valve for an aerosol container or an aerosol container with such a valve.
[0007] It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an improved valve for aerosol containers.
[0008] This object is achieved according to the invention by a valve for aerosol containers according to patent claim 1.
[0009] It is further an object of the invention to provide an improved aerosol container with a valve.
[0010] This object is achieved according to the invention by an aerosol container according to patent claim 16.
[0011] Advantageous embodiments of the invention are claimed in the dependent claims.
[0012] The features of a valve for aerosol containers and of an aerosol container disclosed below are part of the invention in all executable combinations.
[0013] A valve according to the invention for aerosol containers comprises a fastening element for fastening the valve to an aerosol container, a valve housing, an outlet element, a spring element and at least one sealing element.
[0014] In embodiments of the invention, the fastening element is designed, for example, as a screw ring with a screw thread or preferably as a clamping ring.
[0015] The fastening element allows for a secure connection of the valve to the aerosol container without welding or gluing. Thus, no manipulation of the aerosol container is required during assembly of the valve according to the invention.
[0016] When the fastening element is designed as a clamping ring, non-destructive disassembly or manipulation of an aerosol container equipped with a corresponding valve according to the invention is prevented, thus ensuring any necessary product safety. In embodiments of the valve for aerosol containers according to the invention, the valve has a two-part fastening element comprising an inner clamping ring and an outer clamping ring. The two-part design of the fastening element with a thinner inner clamping ring, which is therefore correspondingly more flexible, and a dimensionally stable outer clamping ring enables improved securing of the valve to an aerosol container.
[0017] In particularly preferred embodiments of the invention, the fastening element formed from a clamping ring and a tensioning ring is manufactured in one piece, for example, by injection molding. The manufactured fastening element then consists of a clamping ring arranged below and a tensioning ring arranged above, with the clamping ring and tensioning ring being connected to one another via a connecting element, for example, designed as a connecting ring.
[0018] The connecting element is designed in such a way that the clamping ring can be pushed downwards over the clamping ring when the valve is mounted to fix it on an aerosol container.
[0019] For this purpose, in embodiments of the invention, the connecting element is designed to be flexible or breakable during the assembly process. In embodiments with a connecting element designed to break during the assembly process, a fastening element made in one piece from a clamping ring and a tension ring is thus transformed into a two-part fastening element.
[0020] In embodiments of the invention, the connecting element is designed as a short, circumferential ring with or without recesses, which only connects the clamping ring and tensioning ring parts arranged directly next to one another.
[0021] In other embodiments of the invention, the connecting element is designed to be folded over during the assembly process, so that in the assembled state it is arranged in the radial direction between the clamping ring and the tensioning ring.
[0022] The design of the fastening element consisting of a one-piece clamping ring and tension ring, the method for manufacturing such a fastening element, and the method for mounting a valve on a container resulting from the use of such a fastening element can also be used for other valve and / or container designs, regardless of the other features of a valve or container explained in this document. In embodiments of the invention, the valve housing comprises a lower housing part and an upper housing part, which can be connected to one another or are connected to one another when the valve is assembled.
[0023] For equipping aerosol containers with the corresponding valves, which is done regularly when the containers are filled with the respective product, the valves are preferably provided fully pre-assembled.
[0024] In embodiments of the invention, the valve housing is dimensioned and shaped such that it can be inserted into the neck of an aerosol container, at least with the lower housing part.
[0025] The valve interior is formed within the valve housing. In most embodiments of the invention, an outlet element protrudes from the top of the valve, into which an aerosol line is integrated.
[0026] Furthermore, a first sealing element is arranged in or on the valve interior. This sealing element is positioned between an inlet opening—in most embodiments of the invention, located on the underside of the valve—which connects the valve interior to the interior of the aerosol container when mounted on an aerosol container, and the aerosol channel in the outlet element. The first sealing element is designed to seal the aerosol line of the outlet element in a basic state.
[0027] In embodiments of the invention, the valve has a retaining element for holding the first sealing element in a defined position. This prevents the sealing element from shifting together with the outlet element when the valve is actuated. In alternative embodiments of the invention, the first sealing element is fixed in the defined position by adhesive bonding. In embodiments of the invention, the first sealing element is additionally or solely fixed in the defined position on the housing by a positive fit, for example, by a profile extending around the outside of the sealing element.
[0028] In other embodiments of the invention, at least the first sealing element is formed as a sealing element molded onto the valve housing. This fixes the position of the sealing element on the at least one respective component of the valve, so that slippage of the sealing element is impossible either during assembly of the valve or during use. For example, a riser tube can be connected to the inlet opening of the valve, which extends deeper into the interior of a connected aerosol container. As an alternative to a riser tube, a plastic bag, in which the aerosol or another fluid can be stored, can be connected to the inlet opening.
[0029] In preferred embodiments of the invention, the valve has a second sealing element which is arranged on the valve housing in such a way that, when the valve is mounted on an aerosol container, it is positioned between the valve housing and the neck of the aerosol container, so that a seal is realized between the valve housing and the aerosol container.
[0030] Preferably, the valve housing can be pressed onto the second sealing element by means of the fastening element, so that the space between the valve housing and the neck of the aerosol container can be securely sealed by the first sealing element.
[0031] In embodiments of the invention, the second sealing element is designed as a sealing element injection-molded onto the valve housing.
[0032] In embodiments of the invention, it is contemplated to combine the first and second sealing elements into a single sealing element which realizes the respective sealing functions.
[0033] The basic state of the valve is maintained by means of a spring element arranged in the valve interior, which positions the outlet element accordingly relative to the second sealing element.
[0034] From the closed basic state, the valve can be brought into the open state by pressure on the outlet element into the valve housing, wherein the outlet element is positioned relative to the first sealing element in such a way that the inlet opening is conductively connected to the aerosol line of the outlet element.
[0035] In preferred embodiments, the first sealing element is arranged between the outlet element, which is movable relative to the valve housing, and the valve housing in such a way that any gap that may be present between the outlet element and the valve housing is sealed.
[0036] According to the invention, the spring element is made of a thermoplastic. Preferably, the spring element is made of a fully recyclable thermoplastic.
[0037] Particularly preferably, the spring element is made of at least one thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). This material offers suitable properties, particularly with regard to a disc spring as a spring geometry, in terms of the required spring force and compatibility with the valve geometry.
[0038] In preferred embodiments of the invention, the spring element is designed as a disc spring. A disc spring is a spring washer with a conical basic shape.
[0039] In preferred embodiments of the invention, the spring element designed as a disc spring has a diameter of between approximately 12 mm and 20 mm and a height of between approximately 3 mm and 10 mm in a relaxed state.
[0040] It is important in embodiments of the invention with a disc spring without fluid opening(s) that the diameter of the disc spring, even in the compressed state, is smaller than the inner diameter of the valve housing so that the aerosol can always flow past the outside of the spring element.
[0041] In embodiments of the invention, alternatively or in addition to the corresponding dimensioning of the spring element, openings and / or recesses are realized in the body of the spring element in such a way that an aerosol can flow from the inlet opening to the aerosol channel in the outlet element regardless of the degree of compression of the spring element.
[0042] In the case of a spring element designed as a disc spring, such openings and / or recesses can be arranged in the casing.
[0043] The thickness of the material of a spring element designed as a disc spring when made of thermoplastic material in embodiments of the invention is preferably between about 0.5 mm and 2 mm, particularly preferably between about 0.75 and 1.5 mm.
[0044] Particularly with regard to the use of a disc spring, the valve according to the invention, in embodiments of the invention, has a rib-like structure at the bottom of the valve interior. This ensures that aerosol flow through the valve interior is always possible and that the valve cannot be completely closed by the spring element. In embodiments of the invention with a disc spring with at least one fluid opening, the rib-like structure is merely optional.
[0045] Particularly preferred, especially when using a disc spring as the spring element, is a mechanical stop in the base area of the valve interior below the disc spring, preventing the disc spring from being completely flattened. If a disc spring is flattened, there is a risk that the ends will fold over when the spring is released, causing the spring to reverse.
[0046] In advantageous embodiments of the invention, the mechanical stop is realized by the contour of the rib-like structure at the bottom of the valve interior in such a way that at least one of the ribs rises towards the center of the valve interior.
[0047] In preferred embodiments of the invention, the entire valve is made of thermoplastics.
[0048] Particularly preferably, the entire valve is made of fully recyclable thermoplastics, in particular polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), polyamide (PA) or polyoxymethylene (POM).
[0049] In embodiments of the invention, the spring element is made of TPE and the valve housing and the fastening element are made of PET.
[0050] In preferred embodiments of the invention, all external components of the valve are made of PET, so that a reliable assignment to the PET group is possible in the recycling process.
[0051] Components made of a plastic other than PET can be separated from the PET components during the recycling process using a float-sink process for shredded plastic flakes. Lightweight plastics with a density of less than 1.0 g / cm3 float to the surface and can be skimmed off.
[0052] Therefore, in embodiments of the invention, in addition to PET, only plastics with a density of less than 1.0 g / cm3 are preferably used for components of the valve according to the invention. In preferred embodiments, the valve according to the invention is designed on its upper side for connection to a spray head.
[0053] In addition to the improved usability of the materials of the valve according to the invention and the aerosol container according to the invention, the invention enables simplified and more cost-effective production and assembly by reducing the number of components used.
[0054] Valves according to the invention can be implemented to fit all spray heads for aerosol containers available on the market.
[0055] An aerosol container according to the invention has a valve according to the invention.
[0056] Furthermore, in preferred embodiments, an aerosol container according to the invention has a connecting structure on the outside in the neck region into which the fastening element of the valve can engage for connection to the aerosol container.
[0057] A particularly suitable connecting structure, for example, is one which forms securing elements that project outwards from the neck of the aerosol container, at least in some areas, behind which the fastening element can engage.
[0058] Particularly preferably, the connecting structure is formed by at least one rib running around the outside of the neck.
[0059] A connecting structure surrounding the outside of the neck further stabilizes the container opening, eliminating the need for additional stabilizing elements such as metal rings that are otherwise routinely used. A correspondingly designed connecting structure also eliminates the need for post-treatment of the aerosol containers to stabilize and increase heat resistance, such as crystallization of the neck area, thus enabling simplified and more cost-effective production of the aerosol containers.

[0077] Figure 15: a perspective view of an embodiment of a holding element.
[0078] Figure 1 shows a sectional view of an embodiment of a valve (1) for an aerosol container (17) according to the invention, mounted on an aerosol container (17). The valve (1) has a valve housing (2) composed of an upper housing part (2a) and a lower housing part (2b). The valve interior (3), in which a spring element (4) is arranged, is formed in the valve housing (2).
[0079] A second sealing element (5) is arranged between the valve housing (2) and the neck of the aerosol container (17), which in the embodiment shown is designed as an annular seal. In the embodiment shown, this second sealing element (5) is arranged such that it simultaneously seals any gap between the upper housing part (2a) and the lower housing part (2b), as well as any gap between the valve housing (2) and the neck of the aerosol container (17).
[0080] The spring element (4) is designed as a disc spring and resiliently holds the outlet element (7) in its home position without the application of external force. In this home position, a first sealing element (8), which in the illustrated embodiment is also designed as an annular seal, seals off an aerosol line (9) provided in the outlet element (7), so that no aerosol can flow from the interior of the aerosol container (17) into the aerosol line (9) via the inlet opening (10) located on the underside of the valve (1).
[0081] A riser tube (20) is attached to the inlet opening (10) which protrudes downwards from the valve (1) in the manner of a pin and extends deeper into the aerosol container (17).
[0082] The outlet element (7), or star, is pin-shaped and hollow in some areas. It has a plate (11) that surrounds the body in the valve interior (3). The first sealing element (8) is arranged between this plate (11) and the upper housing part (2a) in such a way that any gap between the outlet element (7) and the upper housing part (2a) is sealed.
[0083] Below the plate (11) of the outlet element (7), the spring element (4) rests with the top side of the cone on the outlet element (7), which extends through the opening (19) of the spring element (4) through the latter.
[0084] The outlet element (7) is centered at its lower end by means of a centering element (12) and is guided in its movement.
[0085] In preferred embodiments of the invention, the outlet element (7) has a rib-like structure in the region of the lower end with ribs extending in the longitudinal direction of the outlet element (7). This prevents the inlet opening from being closed by the lower end of the outlet element being pushed far into the valve.
[0086] At the bottom of the valve interior (3), a rib-like structure (13) is formed on the surface of the housing lower part (2b), which forms channels (14) below the spring element (4) that run radially outwards from the center in the region of the inlet opening (10).
[0087] The height of the ribs (13) is increased towards the center so that a mechanical stop for the disc spring and the disc (11) of the outlet element (7) is realized and a free flow path from the inlet opening (10) into the valve interior (3) is always maintained for the aerosol.
[0088] The valve housing (2) is secured to the opening of the aerosol container (17) by means of a fastening element (6) designed as a clamping ring. The clamping ring engages with projections behind corresponding notches of the connecting structure (18) on the outside of the neck of the aerosol container (17), thereby positively connecting the valve (1) to the aerosol container (17). The clamping ring presses against the upper housing section (2a) of the valve (1) from above.
[0089] The connecting structure (18) is realized as a rib running around the outside of the neck of the aerosol container (17), which has on its upper side a sliding surface sloping outwards and an edge adjoining the smooth surface, behind which the rib ends.
[0090] A spray head (15) is mounted on the valve (1). It has a nozzle (not shown) for discharging the aerosol, which is connected to the aerosol line of the outlet element (7). The spray head (15) is connected to the outlet element (7) via a pressure plate, so that pressure from above on the spray head (15) can be transferred to the outlet element (7) to move it relative to the first sealing element (8) into the open position of the valve (1).
[0091] In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, a detachable closure cap (16) is fitted onto the spray head (15). This closure cap (16) is optional and not part of the invention in all embodiments. Figure 2 shows another embodiment of a valve (1) according to the invention. The first sealing element (8) is located in an annular recess formed in the upper housing section (2a), which adjoins the opening for the outlet element (7) on the inside.
[0092] The fastening element (6) is designed as a two-part fastening element (6) consisting of a clamping ring (23) and a tensioning ring (21).
[0093] The first sealing element (8) has an adapted sealing geometry with a banana-shaped cross-section. This feature is independent of the other design features of this embodiment of the invention.
[0094] Figure 3 shows a detailed view of the realization of the first sealing element (8).
[0095] Figure 4 shows a sectional view of the housing upper part (2a) in embodiments of the invention. The second sealing element (5) and the first sealing element (8) are injection-molded onto the housing upper part (2a), so that they are fixedly arranged on the housing upper part (2a) without adhesives, retaining elements, or other connecting techniques.
[0096] With regard to the method for producing such a housing upper part (2a) in an injection molding process, a first injection point (25) for the fixed part of the housing upper part (2a) and a second injection point (26) for the material of the second sealing element (5) and the first sealing element (8) as well as two overflow openings (27) are shown.
[0097] In the embodiment of the invention shown, the first sealing element (8) and the second sealing element (5) are formed integrally with one another.
[0098] However, the corresponding method is also suitable for embodiments with separate sealing elements (5, 8) due to the use of at least two injection points (26) for the material of the sealing elements (5, 8).
[0099] An opening (24) for the outlet element (7) is arranged centrally in the upper part of the housing (2a).
[0100] Figure 5 shows a perspective view from below of a corresponding upper housing part (2a) with one-piece, injection-molded sealing elements (5, 8). The sealing elements (5, 8) are connected to one another via a casting channel (28) in order to enable one-piece production and / or production with only one common injection point (26) for the sealing elements (5, 8). Figure 6 shows an embodiment of a spring element (4) designed as a disc spring of a valve (1) according to the invention for aerosol containers (17) in a view from below. The disc spring has a circular opening (19) in the center.
[0101] Figure 7 shows the spring element (4) shown in Figure 6 in section along the axis AA. The cone of the spring element (4) has a height H, a diameter D, and a wall thickness S.
[0102] Figure 8 shows a bottom view of a further embodiment of a spring element (4) of a valve (1) according to the invention for aerosol containers (17), designed as a disc spring. The disc spring has a circular opening (19) in the center. Furthermore, the spring element (4) has four evenly spaced, radially arranged, circular fluid openings (29).
[0103] The positioning and number of fluid openings (29) may vary in other embodiments of the invention. In principle, embodiments with at least one up to any number of fluid openings (29) are conceivable.
[0104] In Figure 9, the spring element (4) shown in Figure 8 is shown in section along the axis BB.
[0105] Figure 10 shows a side view of a fastening element (6) according to the invention for a valve (1). The fastening element (6) is formed in one piece from a clamping ring (23) and a tensioning ring (21) arranged above it, wherein the tensioning ring (21) is designed to slide over the clamping ring (23).
[0106] Figure 11 shows a sectional view of the fastening element (6) shown in Figure 10. The clamping ring (23) and the tensioning ring (21) are connected to each other via a connecting element (30).
[0107] The connecting element (30) designed as a connecting ring is broken or destroyed when the clamping ring (21) is moved over the clamping ring (23) during assembly of the valve (1) on a container (17).
[0108] Figure 12 shows a detailed view of the fastening element (6) from Figure 11. Figure 13 shows a sectional view of an aerosol container (17) according to the invention having a valve (1) according to the invention according to the above description.
[0109] The aerosol container (17) has an externally circumferential connecting structure (18) in its neck area, behind which the fastening element (6) of the valve (1), designed as a clamping ring, engages.
[0110] Figure 14 shows a sectional view of an alternative embodiment of a valve (1) according to the invention. The valve (1) has a retaining element (22) for fixing the first sealing element (8) in a defined position. This position of the first sealing element (8) is defined such that, in the basic position of the valve (1), the first sealing element (8) seals the aerosol line (9) provided in the outlet element (7).
[0111] Furthermore, the illustrated embodiment of a valve (1) has a two-part fastening element (6) which has an inner clamping ring (23) and an outer clamping ring
[0112] (21). The two-part design of the fastening element (6) with an inner clamping ring (23) that is thinner in terms of material thickness and is therefore correspondingly more flexible, and a dimensionally stable outer clamping ring (21) enables improved securing of the valve (1) on an aerosol container (17).
[0113] PET is the preferred material for the holding element (22) and the clamping ring (21).
[0114] In further embodiments of the invention, the holding element (22) and the two-part design of the fastening element (6) are present or not present independently of one another.
[0115] Figure 15 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a holding element
[0116] (22). In the illustrated embodiment, the shape of the holding element (22) is adapted to be inserted into the valve interior (3) between the valve housing (2) and the spring element (4). In the embodiment shown, this is achieved by a hollow truncated cone-like base body with an inwardly curved side surface. On its upper side, the holding element (22) is designed to support the first sealing element (5), while the underside of the holding element (22) is designed to be supported on the floor of the valve interior (3). As a result, the first sealing element (5) is clamped between the holding element (22) and the valve housing (2) and fixed in the defined position. The circumferential wall of the holding element (22) has slot-like openings that extend from the underside region into the top side region, each at a distance from the respective end of the base body.A plurality of such openings are arranged at regular intervals around the circumference. In this and similar embodiments of the retaining element (22), these openings serve to ensure that a flow channel for the aerosol is always provided, regardless of the valve position, and to prevent the valve interior (3) from being undesirably sealed, for example, by a spring element (4) that fits tightly inside the retaining element (22).
