Abstract
Description
[0001] Electronic device and method for signal transmission
[0002] The invention relates to an electronic device with an antenna arrangement, wherein the device comprises a carrier plate and the antenna arrangement has at least one asymmetrical first antenna with a first transverse axis, by which the first antenna is divided into a first section of the first antenna and into a second section of the first antenna, and an asymmetrical second antenna with a second transverse axis, by which the second antenna is divided into a third section of the second antenna and into a fourth section of the second antenna, wherein the first antenna and the second antenna are arranged in the region of a circumference of the carrier plate, and wherein in the case of the first antenna, a first feed point of the first antenna is arranged exclusively in the first section, whereby the first antenna is asymmetrical, and in the second antenna, a second feed point of the second antenna is arranged exclusively in the third section, whereby the second antenna is asymmetrical.
[0003] Electronic devices with antenna arrays often have to be installed in environments with limited space, where electromagnetic fields are present, and / or where components are subject to high mechanical stress (e.g., due to impacts). It can be important that radio signals from the antenna arrays reach different spatial areas and that stable radio communication is ensured even under adverse conditions.
[0004] EP 1 229 604 A2, for example, is known from the prior art, which discloses a radio module with a printed circuit board and an antenna, the antenna being shielded from other components of the radio module. WO 2019 / 215004 A1 also shows an electronic device with a housing and an antenna arrangement. One embodiment of the electronic device comprises a carrier plate having two antennas arranged in the region of opposite side edges of the carrier plate. Feed devices of the antenna arrangement are arranged approximately opposite one another, with an offset in the direction of the opposite side edges of the carrier plate being provided between a first feed device and a second feed device.
[0005] The invention is based on the object of providing an electronic device with antennas which is more advanced than the prior art and whose feed devices influence each other as little as possible.
[0006] According to the invention, this object is achieved with an electronic device according to claim 1, in which the first antenna and the second antenna are arranged in a section sequence along the circumference, in which the second section is arranged following the first section, the fourth section is arranged following the second section and the third section is arranged following the fourth section.
[0007] This measure ensures a sufficient distance between the first feed point and the second feed point. An area between the first antenna and the second antenna on the carrier plate is thus kept free of feed lines, etc. and can be used for other components on the carrier plate (e.g. a near-field communication antenna or electronic circuits, etc.). The area that is kept free is not affected, or only moderately affected, by currents or electromagnetic fields that are caused by feeding the first antenna and the second antenna. Arranging the first antenna and the second antenna along the circumference means that an inner area of the carrier plate can also be used for other components of the electronic device. This results in a compact electronic device whose components have only minimal interactions with one another.
[0008] The arrangement of the first antenna and the second antenna along the circumference also allows the first antenna and the second antenna to reach different spatial regions with their radiated energy. The base and top surfaces of the carrier plate can, for example, be polygonal or circular, etc., whereby the circumference can be a polygonal line or a circular line, etc.
[0009] Further advantageous embodiments of the electronic device according to the invention emerge from the subclaims.
[0010] It is advantageous, for example, if an asymmetrical third antenna is arranged in the region of the circumference, having a third transverse axis by which the third antenna is divided into a fifth section of the third antenna and a sixth section of the third antenna, wherein in the case of the third antenna a third feed point of the third antenna is arranged exclusively in the fifth section, as a result of which the third antenna is asymmetrical, and wherein the first antenna, the second antenna and the third antenna are arranged in the section sequence along the circumference, in which the sixth section is arranged following the third section and the fifth section is arranged following the sixth section.
[0011] This measure can provide advantages with regard to reduced influence of a carrier plate area by currents or electromagnetic fields from antenna feed devices, utilization of a limited installation space budget and radio-technical detection of different spatial areas, even for an antenna arrangement with three antennas. The advantages mentioned can furthermore also be used for an antenna arrangement with four antennas if an asymmetrical fourth antenna is arranged in the region of the circumference, with a fourth transverse axis, by means of which the fourth antenna is divided into a seventh section of the fourth antenna and an eighth section of the fourth antenna, wherein in the case of the fourth antenna a fourth feed point of the fourth antenna is arranged exclusively in the seventh section, as a result of which the fourth antenna is asymmetrical, wherein the first antenna, the second antenna, the third antenna and the fourth antenna are arranged in the section sequence along the circumference, in which the seventh section is arranged following the fifth section and the eighth section is arranged following the seventh section, and wherein the carrier plate has a slot between the fifth section and the seventh section.
[0012] By means of the slot acting as an air gap, which is led, for example, to an edge of the carrier plate, an electromagnetic decoupling is achieved between the fifth section with the third feed point of the third antenna and the seventh section with the fourth feed point of the fourth antenna.
[0013] The slot can, for example, be L-shaped. With an L-shaped slot, a favorable positioning of the slot relative to the individual antenna feed devices can be achieved, particularly with angled antennas. However, even with parallel antenna arrangements, advantages with regard to strong electromagnetic decoupling between the antennas can be realized, for example, due to a two-dimensional air gap.
[0014] An alternative antenna arrangement with four antennas, by means of which the above-mentioned advantages can also be used, is achieved if an asymmetric fourth antenna is arranged in the region of the circumference, with a fourth transverse axis, by which the fourth antenna is divided into a seventh section of the fourth antenna and an eighth section of the fourth antenna, wherein in the fourth antenna a fourth feed point of the fourth antenna is arranged exclusively in the seventh section, whereby the fourth antenna is asymmetric, wherein the first antenna, the second antenna, the third antenna and the fourth antenna are arranged in the section order along the circumference, in which the eighth section is arranged following the fifth section and the seventh section is arranged following the eighth section, and wherein the support plate has a slot between the first section and the seventh section.,
[0015] Since the first section with the first feed point and the seventh section with the fourth feed point face each other in the aforementioned alternative antenna arrangement, the slot, which extends, for example, to the edge of the carrier plate, is arranged as an electromagnetically decoupling air gap between the first section and the seventh section in this alternative antenna arrangement. The slot can, for example, be L-shaped.
[0016] It can also be helpful with regard to an efficient use of space on the carrier plate if the carrier plate is polygonal in shape, wherein at least a first longitudinal axis of the first antenna is aligned parallel or approximately parallel to a first edge of the carrier plate.
[0017] At least the first antenna can, for example, be integrated into the carrier plate (e.g., into the first edge), thereby providing high resistance to mechanical stress (e.g., shocks and / or vibrations).
[0018] Radio communication by means of the electronic device over short distances is made possible if a near-field communication antenna is arranged on the carrier plate, between the first antenna and the second antenna, adjacent to the periphery.
[0019] Furthermore, the additional arrangement of the near-field communication antenna complements the antenna arrangement, enabling high availability and high data security. This measure allows the near-field communication antenna to utilize the area on the carrier plate that is kept clear and not, or only moderately, influenced by currents or electromagnetic fields in a space-efficient manner.
[0020] A space-saving and at the same time electrical interference-reducing antenna design is achieved if at least the first antenna and the second antenna delimit a mounting area of the carrier plate, wherein the mounting area is designed as a ground plane.
[0021] In connection with the mounting area delimited at least by the first antenna and the second antenna, it is helpful if at least the first antenna is connected to a radio front end via a first line, wherein the first line is guided in an edge region of the mounting area and the radio front end is arranged on the mounting area.
[0022] This avoids routing the first cable over a central area of the assembly area.
[0023] A preferred solution is obtained if at least the first antenna is designed as a capacitively coupled, planar monopole antenna.
[0024] Due to its radiation characteristics, a capacitively coupled, planar monopole antenna is particularly suitable for applications requiring different polarizations and / or for irradiating different spatial directions. A favorable solution is achieved if the carrier plate is enclosed in a housing made of electrically insulating material.
[0025] In comparison to an electrically conductive housing, this measure ensures that, for example, no openings need to be provided in the housing through which antenna radiation is guided into the environment of the housing.
[0026] A particularly stable and low-interference radio communication is made possible by a method for signal transmission by means of at least one first electronic device according to the invention with a first antenna arrangement acting as a transmitter and a second electronic device according to the invention with a second antenna arrangement acting as a receiver, with at least four radio channels between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement, if first information, by means of which transmitting antennas of the first antenna arrangement from which the first information is transmitted can be identified, is transmitted from the first antenna arrangement to the second antenna arrangement by means of a first signal transmission, reception powers relating to the first signal transmission that can be assigned to the transmitting antennas and received by receiving antennas of the second antenna arrangement are measured and compared with one another, and that combination of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas for which a reception power relating to the first signal transmission is greatest is selected for radio communication between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement, wherein at least one second piece of information, by means of which a transmitting antenna assigned to the selected combination can be identified, is transmitted from the second antenna arrangement to the first antenna arrangement by means of a second signal transmission. Radio channels are radio connections between antennas of the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement, each in one direction. If the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement each have, for example, two transmitting and receiving antennas, four radio channels can be used for the method. If the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement each comprise, for example, four transmitting and receiving antennas,so the procedure can be carried out on the basis of sixteen radio channels etc .,
[0027] A deteriorating transmission quality in radio communication can be effectively treated if a reception power measurement and a reception power comparison as well as a selection of a combination of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas are triggered again when a signal transmission quality in radio communication between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement falls below a defined quality limit.
[0028] The quality threshold can, for example, be a signal strength threshold.
[0029] An inappropriate selection of a combination of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas based on statistical outliers is avoided if the combination of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas for which a received power is greatest is selected based on a series of received power measurements.
[0030] A reduction in storage requirements is achieved if a defined number of received power measurement results is saved, whereby those received power measurement results with the highest received power are saved, and whereby if this defined number is exceeded, the oldest received power measurement result is deleted from the saved received power measurement results. For example, the combination of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas for which the received power is highest can be that combination for which received power measurement results are saved most frequently or, e.g. if received power measurement results relating to different combinations of the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas are saved with equal frequency, etc., for which the received power is statistically highest (e.g. for which a received power mean value or a received power median is highest, etc.).
[0031] Unwanted interactions between individual radio channels are avoided if the radio communication between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement is carried out on a frame-based basis, for which purpose at least one data packet to be transmitted between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement is exclusively assigned its own time slot.
[0032] This measure ensures that the data packet is transmitted without interference. This enables the transmission of security-relevant information, which requires a particularly high level of reliability.
[0033] The invention is explained in more detail below using exemplary embodiments.
[0034] Examples include:
[0035] Fig. 1: A schematic plan view of an exemplary embodiment of an electronic device with a carrier plate and an antenna arrangement arranged on the carrier plate, which comprises four capacitively coupled, planar monopole antennas and a near-field communication antenna, and
[0036] Fig. 2: A flowchart of an exemplary embodiment of a method for signal transmission according to the invention.
[0037] Fig. 1 shows a schematic floor plan of an exemplary embodiment of an electronic device with a carrier plate 1 and an antenna arrangement arranged on the carrier plate 1.
[0038] The antenna arrangement has an asymmetrical first antenna 2 with a first transverse axis 6, by which the first antenna 2 is divided into a first section 10 and a second section 11, an asymmetrical second antenna 3 with a second transverse axis 7, by which the second antenna 3 is divided into a third section 12 and a fourth section 13, an asymmetrical third antenna 4 with a third transverse axis 8, by which the third antenna 4 is divided into a fifth section 14 and a sixth section 15, and an asymmetrical fourth antenna 5 with a fourth transverse axis 9, by which the fourth antenna 5 is divided into a seventh section 16 and an eighth section 17.
[0039] The first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4, and the fourth antenna 5 are arranged in the region of a circumference 18 of the carrier plate 1 and delimit a mounting surface 19 of the carrier plate 1, which is designed as a ground surface. The mounting surface 19 is designed as a large-area copper surface connected to a ground potential, on which a microprocessor 20 and mounting elements are arranged, wherein the mounting elements form parts of an electronic circuit.
[0040] The carrier plate is polygonal, with a first longitudinal axis 21 and a first radiator 22 of the first antenna 2 being aligned parallel to a first edge 23 of the carrier plate 1. Longitudinal axes and radiators of the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5 are aligned parallel to further edges of the carrier plate 1. The first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5, which are designed as capacitively coupled, planar monopole antennas, are integrated into the carrier plate 1 in regions of the first edge 23 and the further edges, for which purpose copper structures on two copper layers are provided on the first edge 23 and the further edges.
[0041] The first radiator 22 and the further radiators emit antenna radiation in directions which are directed from the carrier plate
[0042] 1 point the way .
[0043] The first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5 are asymmetrical with respect to the arrangement of their components. For example, a first feed point 24 of the first antenna
[0044] 2 is arranged in the first section 10 , while the second section 11 has no feed point etc .
[0045] A second feed point 25 of the second antenna 3 is arranged in the third section 12, a third feed point 26 of the third antenna 4 in the fifth section 14 and a fourth feed point 27 of the fourth antenna 5 in the seventh section 16.
[0046] Thus, only the first section 10, the third section 12, the fifth section 14 and the seventh section 16 have feed points (the second section 11, the fourth section 13, the sixth section 15 and the eighth section 17 are free of feed points), whereby the first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5 are asymmetrical.
[0047] The first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5 are arranged in a section sequence along the circumference 18, in which the second section 11 is arranged following the first section 10, the fourth section 13 following the second section 11, the third section 12 following the fourth section 13, the sixth section 15 following the third section 12, the fifth section 14 following the sixth section 15, the seventh section 16 following the fifth section 14 and the eighth section 17 following the seventh section 16. The second antenna 3 is aligned at right angles to the first antenna 2, the third antenna 4 at right angles to the second antenna 3 and the fourth antenna 5 at right angles to the third antenna 4.
[0048] In a first corner region of the support plate 1, an L-shaped slot 28 is arranged in the support plate 1 between the fifth section 14 and the seventh section 16, which slot extends to an edge of the support plate 1.
[0049] According to the invention, it is also conceivable that the fourth antenna 5 is arranged, for example with respect to the fourth transverse axis 9, in a mirror image of the orientation of the fourth antenna 5 shown in Fig. 1. In the section sequence along the circumference 18, the eighth section 17 is arranged following the fifth section 14 and the seventh section 16 is arranged following the eighth section 17. With such an orientation of the fourth antenna 5, the carrier plate 1 has the slot 28 between the first section 10 and the seventh section 16.
[0050] In a second corner region of the carrier plate 1, a near-field communication antenna 29 for near-field communication, also called Near Field Communication (NFC), is arranged on the carrier plate 1 and surrounded by an electrically insulating structure of the carrier plate 1. The near-field communication antenna 29, which has a coil-like structure, is arranged between the second section 11 of the first antenna 2 and the fourth section 13 of the second antenna 3, adjacent to the circumference 18 in the second corner region.
[0051] The first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4, the fourth antenna 5 and the near-field communication antenna 29 are supplied with electricity via a battery (not shown in Fig. 1) connected to the carrier plate 1.
[0052] The first antenna 2 is connected to a radio front end 34 arranged on the component mounting area 19 via a first line 30 connected to the first feed point 24, the second antenna 3 via a second line 31 connected to the second feed point 25, the third antenna 4 via a third line 32 connected to the third feed point 26 and the fourth antenna 5 via a fourth line 33 connected to the fourth feed point 27. The radio front end 34 has an antenna switching module with which the first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5 can be activated and deactivated, i.e. switching can be carried out between the first antenna 2, the second antenna 3, the third antenna 4 and the fourth antenna 5.
[0053] The first line 30, the second line 31, the third line 32 and the fourth line 33 are designed as microstrip lines and are guided in an edge region of the component mounting area 19, partially parallel to the first edge 23 and to the other edges of the carrier plate 1.
[0054] The carrier plate 1 has, on its circumference 18, in four corner regions, a rounded first recess 35, a rounded second recess 36, a rounded third recess 37, and a rounded fourth recess 38. A first screw 39 is guided in a first sleeve 43 in the first recess 35, a second screw 40 is guided in a second sleeve 44 in the second recess 36, a third screw 41 is guided in a third sleeve 45 in the third recess 37, and a fourth screw 42 is guided in a fourth sleeve 46 in the fourth recess 38. A first housing part and a second housing part of a housing 47 made of electrically insulating material, by means of which the carrier plate 1 is housed, are connected to one another by means of the first screw 39, the second screw 40, the third screw 41, and the fourth screw 42. The housing 47 is made of plastic.
[0055] Fig. 2 shows a flow chart of an exemplary embodiment of a method for signal transmission according to the invention.
[0056] The method is carried out by means of a first electronic device having a first antenna arrangement and a second electronic device having a second antenna arrangement. The first electronic device and the second electronic device are designed as described in connection with Fig. 1.
[0057] According to the invention, it is also conceivable to integrate further electronic devices with antenna arrangements into the method and thus to form a radio network.
[0058] The first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement each have four antennas, which are designed as transmitting and receiving antennas. This allows the method to utilize a total of sixteen (four times four) radio channels. The first antenna arrangement has four first antennas, and the second antenna arrangement has four second antennas.
[0059] In the method, first information, by means of which the first antennas can be identified (i.e., the receiver can determine from the first information which first antenna of the first antenna arrangement the respective first information is being sent), is transmitted from all of the first antennas by means of a radio-based first signal transmission to the second antenna arrangement (first information transmission 48). The first antenna arrangement acts as a transmitter, and the first antennas function as transmitting antennas. The first information is received by the second antennas. The second antenna arrangement acts as a receiver, and the second antennas function as receiving antennas.
[0060] Reception powers relating to the first signal transmission that can be assigned to the first antennas via the first information and received by the second antennas are measured by means of the second antenna arrangement (reception power measurement 50) and compared with one another by means of the second electronic device (reception power comparison 51).
[0061] The combination of the first antennas and the second antennas for which a reception power relating to the first signal transmission is greatest is selected for a radio communication 52 between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement (antenna selection 53).
[0062] In order to activate that first antenna of the first antenna arrangement which functions as a transmitting antenna for the detected combination of the first antennas and the second antennas for which the reception power relating to the first signal transmission is greatest, for the radio communication 52 and to deactivate other first antennas for the radio communication 52, a second piece of information, by means of which the first antenna assigned to the selected combination can be identified, is transmitted from the second antenna arrangement to the first antenna arrangement by means of a radio-based second signal transmission (second information transmission 49).
[0063] With the selected combination, to which the said first antenna of the first antenna arrangement acting as a transmitting antenna and a second antenna of the second antenna arrangement acting as a receiving antenna, for which the greatest received power is measured at the second antenna arrangement, are assigned, the radio communication 52 is carried out, in which, for example, measurement data packets are transmitted from the second antenna arrangement to the first antenna arrangement.
[0064] The radio communication 52 between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement is carried out on a frame-based basis. At the beginning of each frame, the first antenna arrangement, which acts as a concentrator controlling the radio communication 52, transmits beacon data packets. Synchronization is performed using these beacon data packets. The beacon data packets include, among other things, information about upcoming transmissions between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement.
[0065] Each frame provides a defined number of downlink slots in which data packets can be transmitted from the first antenna array to the second antenna array. The downlink slots assigned to individual transmissions are determined using corresponding information in the beacon data packets.
[0066] If, in addition to the first electronic device and the second electronic device, further electronic devices are involved in the method, transmissions from the first antenna arrangement to the second antenna arrangement and to further antenna arrangements are carried out as multicast transmissions. The second antenna arrangement and the further antenna arrangements form a receiver group, which is assigned to the first antenna arrangement acting as a concentrator.
[0067] In the radio communication 52, a separate uplink slot is further provided for transmissions from the second antenna arrangement to the first antenna arrangement per frame, wherein each data packet to be transmitted from the second antenna arrangement to the first antenna arrangement is exclusively assigned its own time slot.
[0068] The received power measurement 50 and the received power comparison 51 as well as the antenna selection 53 are triggered again when a signal transmission quality in the radio communication 52 between the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement falls below a defined signal strength limit as a quality limit (limit value comparison 54). If an antenna combination changes, a first radio front end with a first antenna switching module of the first electronic device and a second radio front end with a second antenna switching module of the second electronic device (a radio front end 34 is shown by way of example in Fig. 1) set a new antenna combination of the first antenna arrangement and the second antenna arrangement based on the antenna selection 53 and the second information transmission 49, so that the radio communication 52 continues on a different radio channel.
[0069] In the method according to Fig. 2, the antenna selection 53 is not based on a single received power measurement result, but on a received power measurement series for which the received power measurement 50 and the received power comparison 51 are carried out several times. In this case, a defined number of ten received power measurement results are stored in an electronic data memory of the second electronic device, with those received power measurement results with the highest received powers being stored, and with the oldest received power measurement result being deleted from the stored received power measurement results as the eleventh received power measurement result (memory management 55).
[0070] As a combination of the first antennas and the second antennas for which the reception power is greatest, the antenna combination for which reception power measurement results are stored most frequently is generally selected during the antenna selection 53.
[0071] However, if reception power measurement results relating to different antenna combinations are stored equally frequently in the data memory, the antenna combination for which a reception power average is greatest is selected during antenna selection 53 as the combination of the first antennas and the second antennas for which the reception power is greatest.
[0072] For receiving power measurement 50, all second antennas of the second antenna arrangement have signal power probes. For processing received power measurement results, for antenna selection 53 and for antenna control, etc., the second electronic device has a microprocessor 20, as shown by way of example in Fig. 1.
