Description

FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a compact foldable clothes warmer / dryer, for warming / drying clothes, bed linen, towels, bathroom apparel and the like.BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] In countries having a relatively cold (and potentially damp) winter such as Europe it is relatively common for snow and or precipitation to be retained in clothes once these have been worn outside. Additionally in such environments upon washing clothes or towels, moisture may be retained for some time afterwards depending on the drying approach used. Further, it would be appreciated that any temperature differential between clothes and the body of a user and / or accumulated moisture can lead to discomfort when a user is using previously worn / freshly laundered clothes or towels.

[0003] Some people use heated clothes stands / racks or radiators to preheat / warm clothes or towels before use and for removal of any retained moisture. Such heated stands or racks are preferably connected to mains power for airing and heating. Typically, such stands or racks comprise a number of spaced apart bars arranged in arms at various levels to apply warmth either via convection or conduction. Due to the relatively close exposure of the electrically powered heating elements to a user such devices must comply with CE marking and GS marking requirements; which constrains design choices.

[0004] Unfortunately, these types of stands or racks can occupy a relatively large volume despite being relatively lightweight. This bulkiness has implications for transportation and storage prior to sale to the consumer, despite efforts to make them collapsible. In many cases, it is necessary for such stands or racks to be delivered to a purchaser's home or residence subsequent to the actual purchase from a shop which is inconvenient and leads to increased costs.

[0005] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide an improved clothes warmer which substantially addresses or alleviates at some of the deficiencies associated with similar prior art devices.SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0023] Various embodiments of the disclosure are discussed in detail below. While specific implementations are discussed, it should be understood that this is done for illustration purposes only. A person skilled in the relevant art will recognize that other components and configurations may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.

[0024] The present disclosure depicts an exemplary foldable heated foldable drying apparatus which may be changed from a stored state in which it occupies a small amount of space to an in use state where the maximum amount of heating / drying space is provided. The foldable drying apparatus can be electrically connected to household power to provide heating, which means that it is relatively inexpensive to run.

[0025] However, due to the folding and unfolding operations, and proximity of damp clothes / towels or the like to the electrical wires, in order to meet minimum safety requirements (including the CS and CE designations), appropriate earthing and configuration of the electrical wires within the drying apparatus must be undertaken.

[0026] Referring to Figures 1A-1C, there is depicted an exemplary embodiment of a prior art arrangement of a drying apparatus 10 as it is unfolded from a stored state (Figure 1A), through a partially unfolded state (Figure 1B) to a fully deployed unfolded operational state (Figure 1C).

[0027] It would be appreciated that although the embodiment of the foldable assembly 10 depicted in these figures comprises three pairs of arm assemblies 20a, 20b, 20c; similar embodiments comprising one, two, three or more arm assembly pairs at various levels could be provided according to the present disclosure. As depicted; each pair of arm assemblies is attached to the main vertical support frame members 40, 42 by joints 50a, 50b on each end through which electrical conductors 56 (not shown) pass to connect with the mains power supply 70.

[0028] A plurality of elongate rods 38 extend between pairs of end members 32a, 32b in each of the arm assemblies. Elongate rods contain heating wires (not visible) in electrical communication with the electrical conductors which pass through the joints 50a, 50b. Secondary vertical support members 44a, 44b are connected to by tie members 59 at the top and bottom of the warmers. The tie members 59 facilitate rotation of the bracing members 62a, 62b together with bracing members 62c, 62d which extend between the main vertical support frame members 40, 42; as depicted by the arrow "A" to an operational position.

[0029] The arm assemblies can be extended to the operational position as depicted by various arrows B in Figure 1C; or back to the storage position depicted in Figure 1A.

[0030] Referring to Figure 1D, there is depicted a partial view of an exemplary pair of arm assemblies of the prior art drying frame depicted in Figure 1A in which the covers of the end members have been removed. As depicted; the arm assembly 20a comprises a pair of arm assemblies 22a, 22b which are rotatable with respect together joint 50a during the folding between assembled states depicted.

[0031] As shown, earth plates 34a, 34b are electrically connected to each heating wire. For example, the earth plate 34a is arranged and attached to the sidewall of the transverse end member 32a. Advantageously, the ends of the rods 38 pass through corresponding apertures 37a in the earth plate 34a; and the earth plate 34b is arranged and attached to the sidewall of the transverse end member 32b. Advantageously, the ends of the rods 38 pass through corresponding apertures 37b in the earth plate 34b. Arranged in this way, the ends of the rods 38 may be deformed (for example, for a stamping or similar machine) in production so as to securely mechanically retain the end rods onto the transverse end members and the arm assembly as a whole in a stable and stronger configuration.

[0032] The arm assemblies have a ring portion 51 which receives the spigot portion (not shown) of the central portion 53a of the joint 50a. Conductors 54 (comprising active, neutral, earth 54a, 54b, 54c ), 56 (comprising active, neutral, earth 54a, 54b, 54c ) pass through the joint 50a; and are held by that joint so that folding between the assembled states depicted in Figures 1A-1C does not abrade the conductors.

[0033] Referring to Figure 1E, there is depicted an exemplary front perspective view of the prior art joint about which the pair of arm assemblies 20a, 20b, 20c rotate; and through which two sets of conductors 54, 56 (not shown) may extend. The conductors have been removed for clarity. As depicted; the joint 50a includes a spigot portion 52 extending from a mounting portion or plate 55.

[0034] The spigot portion 52 includes passages 54a,54b for receiving the conductors. Each pair of arm assemblies are therefore able to pivot with respect to each other for transitioning between the stored state and operational state; and the conductors are not exposed to a potential abrading surface which could remove some of the insulation of the electrical conductor and thereby compromise safety over repeated operation. The joint maintains the set of electrical conductors spaced apart from each other and therefore avoids this fraying / roughening which could take place over cycles of folding and folding between a storage position and an operational position.

[0035] Advantageously, and in contrast to the arrangement depicted in Figures 1A-1E, the exemplary foldable heating drying apparatus of the present disclosure may be assembled initially from a compact transportation state; to an intermediate assembled storage state.

[0036] The compact foldable heating / drying apparatus may thereafter be folded and unfolded between the intermediate storage state and a fully assembled operational state as further depicted herein in the present disclosure. Similarly in such arrangements the electrical conductors contained within the frame are protected from contact with the operator; and from abrasion and the like at all operational stages.

[0037] Referring to Figure 2A, there is depicted an operational state of the compact foldable clothes warmer 110 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. It would be appreciated that this operational state is attained by similar operations as that depicted in Figure 1B and described herein.

[0038] That is, as depicted the foldable assembly comprises three pairs of arm assemblies 120a, 120b, 120c each located at different heights. These arm assemblies are supported on main vertical frame support members 140 by joints 150a, 150b, 150c; with similar joints supporting the arm assemblies on vertical support frame member 142 on the other end of the arm assemblies. The arm assemblies include elongate rods 138 through which electrical conductors 156 (not shown) pass to connect with the mains power supply.

[0039] It would be appreciated that the main visible difference between the embodiment of the prior art depicted in Figure 1C, and that depicted in Figure 2A lies in the construction of the main support frame members support frame members 140, 142. However, in the embodiments depicted in Figures 2A-9C, there are additional connections between the elongate segments of the vertical support members as is described further herein.

[0040] As depicted, main vertical support frame members 140,142 comprise a plurality of elongate segments. In this case, a main vertical support frame member 142 comprises three elongate segments 170a, 172a, 174a. Similarly, a main vertical support frame member 140 comprises elongate segments 170b, 172b, and 174b. In the arrangement depicted, the elongate segments have a longitudinal axis which is substantially aligned when the clothes warmer is operational. As depicted, the longitudinal axis of the elongate segments is essentially aligned and coaxial in each vertical support frame member 140,142.

[0041] In this embodiment, support plates 180 secure adjacent elongate segments in the operational configuration depicted in Figure 2A. It would be appreciated that such support plates 180 would be installed by the user in their own home in the initial assembly phase. Such support plates could be screwed or otherwise attached to secure the elongate segments of the main support poles together in the operational state depicted.

[0042] Referring to Figure 2B, there is depicted an exemplary compact arrangement of the heated foldable drying apparatus of the present disclosure. As depicted, it can be seen that the elongate segments 170a, 172a and 174a of the vertical support member 142 and corresponding elongate segments of the other vertical support member 140 no longer have their longitudinal axis substantially aligned with each other. Instead, in this arrangement, the elongate segments are arranged to substantially be supported such that the longitudinal axis of each segment is spaced apart from the longitudinal axis of an adjacent elongate segment. An exemplary description of the various arrangements is described further herein.

[0043] In the configuration depicted in Figure 2B, it would be appreciated that the drying apparatus 110 occupies a relatively limited volume; much less than the "storage" state of the embodiment depicted in Figure 1A.

[0044] Not shown are intermediate assembly states such as those depicted in Figures 1A and 1B, however a person skilled in the art would be appreciated that aside from the additional steps of assembling the elongate segments together as will be described further herein, similar assembly in a similar operational state of unfolding arm assemblies would also be expected for the embodiments of the present disclosure described herein.

[0045] Referring now to Figure 3A, there is depicted an exemplary cross-sectional view of an embodiment of an exemplary structural arrangement by which adjacent elongate segments of the main vertical support frame may be moved between the compact configuration depicted in Figure 2B and the assembled configuration depicted in Figure 2A.

[0046] As depicted, the set of electrical conductors 190 and ground wire 192 extend inside a spanning member 200. The spanning member 200 is configured to provide relative rotation of elongate segments 170a, 172a with respect to each other. Receiving bosses 202, 204 moulded on the spanning member receive corresponding bosses 173,171 extending from the seat collar 196 with collar portions 196a, 196b, 196c, 196d (as shown in Figure 3C in detail) received inside the metal tubes 198 of the elongate segments 170a, 170b.

[0047] In addition to providing relative rotation of the elongate segments with respect to each other, the spanning member is configured to provide a passageway or pathway 206 by which the electrical conductors 190 and wire 192 extend in such a way that the connectors and wire retain the ability for limited relative movement during rotation. As depicted this passageway 206 is formed by moulding a plurality of ribs 208 and winding the ground wire 192 and electrical conductors 190 about and around the ribs 208 and bosses 202, 204.

[0048] Referring now to Figure 3B, there is depicted the partial cross-sectional view of the elongate segments 170a and 172a of Figure 3A in a partially assembled state n a partially unfolded position. It would be appreciated that the passageway defined by the spanning member 200 means that the set of electrical conductors 190 and wire 192 shown are not placed under tension during the unfolding operation.

[0049] Referring to Figure 3C, there is depicted an exploded exemplary perspective view of the components of the elongate segments 170a, 170b in a vertical orientation. Advantageously, as depicted, the ground wire 192 and set of conductors 190 can be received in a sheath 193 that may then be received in a passageway defined in the spanning member 200 between ribs and protrusions formed in each of the two parts of the spanning member 200a, 200b.

[0050] Bosses 202, 204 of the spanning member comprise bosses 202a, 204a formed on portions of a first part of the spanning member 202a; when combined with complementary bosses 202b, 204b formed on the other spanning member part 200b.

[0051] Spanning member bosses enclose corresponding bosses protruding from the collar portions 196a, 196b, which essentially act as an axle about which the collars (and elongate segments rotate). Similar / shorter bosses (not shown) may also protrude from the collar portions 196c,196d.

[0052] As shown, the collar portions may be affixed in position for initial assembly through the use of a mounting plate 182 or the like and a screw or other fixation elements secured through the tube 198, collar portions 196a, 196b, 196c, 196d and mounting plate 182.

[0053] Referring now to Figure 4A, there is depicted a second embodiment of an arrangement of the compact heated foldable drying apparatus according to the present disclosure 210.

[0054] As depicted, vertical support members 240 comprise a plurality of elongate segments 270a, 272a, 274a and vertical support member corresponding vertical support member 242 comprises elongate segments 270b, 272b, 274b. Similarly, as depicted in Figure 2A, elongate bars 238 retain electrical conductors / heating wires therein.

[0055] Again, the foldable assembly comprises three pairs of arm assemblies 220a, 220b, 220c are each located at different heights. These arm assemblies are supported on main vertical frame support member 240 by joints 250a, 250b, 250c; and similarly supported on vertical frame support member 242 by similar joints (not shown). The arm assemblies include elongate rods 238 through which electrical conductors (not shown) pass to connect with the mains power supply.

[0056] It would be appreciated that the main visible difference between the embodiment of the prior art depicted in Figure 1C, and that depicted in Figure 4A lies in the construction of the main support frame members 240, 242 (in particular the elongate segments therein and connection therebetween) as will be discussed further herein.

[0057] Referring to Figure 4B, there is depicted a partially assembled embodiment of the compact heated foldable drying apparatus depicted in Figure 4A. This state is a transitional state between the fully operational state depicted in Figure 4A and the compact state depicted in Figure 4C.

[0058] The various elongate segments 270a, 272a, 274a are shown in a partially extended state for understanding, so as to expose spanning members 300 not otherwise visible in this state.

[0059] Furthermore, a person skilled in the art would appreciate that the customer may store the heated foldable drying apparatus in a state similar to that depicted in Figure 4B under a bed in the horizontal configuration depicted or for in a cupboard or behind a door in a more vertical orientation.

[0060] Referring now to Figure 4C, there is depicted an exemplary compact heated foldable drying apparatus in the most compact state. It can be seen that the elongate segments 270a, 272a and 274a are arranged such that the axis of each segment is spaced apart in the stacked arrangement depicted. The elongate segments of the other vertical support member 242 are similarly stacked. Advantageously, the compact clothes warmer may be purchased by the customer in this state for initial assembly, which reduces the space required in shipping and storage of the unit.

[0061] In this embodiment, the spanning member 300 is configured to be both slidably and rotatably received by the supporting collars 296 which are inserted inside the main tubes 298 of the support member as can be appreciated by reference to Figures 4D, 4E and 5A-5C. In particular, in the state depicted in Figure 4D, the collar portions 296a, 296b, and 296c, 296d abut each other, and the protrusions (bosses) of the spanning member are received in respective grooves or slots 301a, 301b defined in the collar portions.

[0062] The protrusions of the spanning member slide in the grooves 301a, 301b formed in the collars along the longitudinal axis so that they are spaced apart as depicted in Figure 4E. In this state, the parts of the grooved regions of the collars are shaped and configured to permit the elongate members to rotate relative to the spanning member in the direction marked by the arrows and thereby attain the compact state depicted in Figure 4C.

[0063] As can be appreciated with respect to the partial cross-sectional view of depicted in Figure 5A, and in the partial cross-sectional view of the elongate segments arranged in a vertical orientation and depicted in Figure 5B; during rotation of the elongate segments between a compact configuration and an assembled configuration, the set of electrical conductors 290 and the ground wire 292 are not subjected to any axial tension. Instead, the set of electrical conductors 290 and ground wire 292 and are loosely retained in a passageway defined in the spanning member 300.

[0064] As depicted, the set of electrical conductors 290 and ground wire 292 extend inside spanning member 300. The spanning member 200 is configured to provide relative rotation of each elongate segment 270a, 272a with respect to each other. Bosses 302, 304 moulded on the spanning member receive and rotate about in formations such as an elongate slots or grooves 301a, 301b or other regions. The collars 296 are received in the metal tubes 298 which make up the elongate segments 270a, 272a.

[0065] The collars 296 may further comprise a tab 303a which projects into a corresponding recess or track 303b defined in the spanning member for guiding the collars on the spanning member 300 when moving in a longitudinal direction; which enables subsequent rotation of the spanning member 300 between the fully operational state and the compact state.

[0066] In addition to providing relative rotation of the elongate segments with respect to each other when the spanning member is fully extended, the spanning member 300 defines a passageway or pathway 306 by which the connectors 290 and ground wire 292 extend in such a way that the connectors and wire retain the ability for limited movement during relative rotation; but are not subjected to significant tension. In the embodiment depicted this passageway 306 is formed by moulding a plurality of ribs 308 and winding the ground wire 292 and electrical conductors 290 about and around the bosses 302, 304. Other arrangements of such formations would also be possible without restriction; as long as they provide limited movement for the connectors in the passageway and prevent the operator from contacting the electrical conductor.

[0067] Referring to Figure 5C, there is depicted an exploded perspective view of the components of Figure 5A and Figure 5B. It can be seen that each collar portion 296a, 296b, 296c, 296d, may be manufactured separately and assembled together and inserted into the tube portions 298 of the elongate segments to form collars 296.

[0068] As shown, the collars may be affixed in position for initial assembly through the use of a mounting plate 282 or the like and a screw or other fixation elements secured through the tube, collar portions and mounting plate.

[0069] Referring now to Figure 6A, there is depicted a third embodiment of an arrangement of the compact heated foldable drying apparatus according to the present disclosure 310.

[0070] As depicted, vertical support member 340 comprises a plurality of elongate segments 370a, 372a, 374a and corresponding vertical support member 342 comprises elongate segments 370b, 372b, 374b. Similarly, as depicted in Figure 2A and Figure 4A elongate bars 338 retain electrical conductors / heating wires therein.

[0071] Again, the foldable assembly comprises three pairs of arm assemblies 320a, 320b, 320c; each located at different heights. These arm assemblies are supported on main vertical frame support members 342 by joints. The arm assemblies include elongate rods 338 through which electrical conductors (not shown) pass to connect with the mains power supply.

[0072] It would be appreciated that the main visible difference between the embodiment of the prior art depicted in Figure 1C, and that depicted in Figure 6A lies in the attachment plate 376 which secures the elongate segments together to form the main support frame members 340, 342 as will be discussed further herein.

[0073] Referring to Figure 6B, there is depicted a partially assembled embodiment of the compact heated foldable drying apparatus depicted in Figure 6A. This state is a transitional state between the fully operational state depicted in Figure 6A and the compact state depicted in Figure 6C. The various elongate segments 370a, 372a, 374a are shown.

[0074] Furthermore, a person skilled in the art would appreciate that the customer may store the heated foldable drying apparatus in a state similar to that depicted in Figure 6B under a bed in the horizontal configuration depicted or for in a cupboard or behind a door in a more vertical orientation once assembled together from the most compact configuration shown in Figure 6C.

[0075] Referring now to Figure 6C, there is depicted an exemplary compact heated foldable drying apparatus 310 in the most compact state. It can be seen that the elongate segments 370a, 372, 372a of vertical support member 340 are arranged such that the axis of each segment is spaced apart in the stacked arrangement depicted. The elongate segments of the other vertical support member 342 are similarly stacked.

[0076] Figures 7A and 7B depict an embodiment of the joint between adjacent elongate segments of the embodiment of the compact clothes warmer of Figures 6A-6C in an assembled state in which the longitudinal axis of each elongate segment is substantially aligned. Conversely Figures 8A, 8B depict the same joint in the most compact configuration.

[0077] As depicted in Figures 7A, 7B and Figure 8B; a collar 402 is made up of complementary sections 404a, 404b affixed about the external portions of the main tubes 398 about the joints thereof by a customer in an initial assembly operation.

[0078] As depicted in these figures and Figure 8A, a spanning member 400 extends between the tubes 398 of adjacent elongate segments 370a, 372a. A ground wire 392 and electrical conductors 390 are received in a sleeve 408. The sleeve 408 may be clamped at one end between clamp halves 396a, 396b and at the other end by clamp halves 396c, 396d. These clamp halves may be secured together and attached to the tubes (e.g. by screws, not shown); to thereby retain the sleeve 408 in movement of the elongate segments with respect to each other from the compact state to the partially assembled state. The electrical conductors 390 and ground wire 392 contained in the sleeve are in this way prevented from abrasion and rubbing in the folding and unfolding operation.

[0079] Advantageously, the spanning member 400 comprises a centre part 401 and a first side leaf 402a and second side leaf 402b hingedly attached to the centre part. Each leaf 402a, 402b is then attached to an elongate segment of the pair of elongate segments (e.g. by press fit and / or screw attachment). This enables the relative movement of one elongate segment with respect to the adjacent segment between the folded configuration depicted in Figures 8A, 8B and the unfolded configuration depicted in Figure 7A / Figure 7B - i.e., between the state in which the longitudinal axis of adjacent segments is offset from each other and wherein the longitudinal axis of adjacent elongate segments is substantially in alignment.

[0080] Advantageously the spanning member 400 further includes a first clamp (comprising clamp halves 396a, 396b ) for frictional engagement of a flexible member in one of the pair of elongate segments and a second clamp (comprising clamp halves 396c, 396d ) for frictional engagement of the sleeve 408 in the other of the pair of elongate segments. Preferably, the sleeve 408 defines a passageway between elongate segments in which the electrical cables 390 and ground wire 392 may be received. The first and second clamp halves 396a,396b, 396c, 396d may be received in an aperture of the spanning member as depicted. Advantageously, the sleeve 408 may be a spiral metallic conduit which is clamped in place as depicted in Figures 7A-7B and 8A-8B.

[0081] The electrical conductors 390 and ground wire 392 may also be enclosed by thermoplastic tubing 407 as depicted; which is then encased by sleeve 408.

[0082] Alternatively, the sleeve 408 may simply be a flexible plastic thermoplastic heatshrink or similar casing such as that depicted in Figure 8C, retained by the electrical connectors and passing through holes or apertures in collars which extend about the elongate members.

[0083] This may be facilitated as shown without the assistance of a clamps.

[0084] Optionally, a holding portion may also be provided which extends from the central portion 401 of the spanning member for retaining the sleeve.

[0085] The collar halves 404a, 404b may together form the collar 402 for maintaining the spanning member 400 in connection with the tubes 398 of the elongate sections 370a, 372a as shown.

[0086] Referring to Figure 9A, there is depicted a further exemplary embodiment of a compact heated foldable drying apparatus 510 in the most compact state. It can be seen that the elongate segments 522a, 524a, 526a of vertical support member 520 are arranged such that the axis of each segment is spaced apart in the stacked arrangement depicted. The elongate segments of the other vertical support member 522 are similarly stacked to minimise the overall volume occupied by the apparatus.

[0087] Referring to Figure 9B, there is depicted a sectional view of an exemplary joint and surrounding portions of the foldable drying apparatus 510 depicted in Figure 9A. The tubes 498 of the adjacent elongated members 522a, 524a are connected by the joint in which the spanning member 500 receives the ground wire 492 and conductors 490. Advantageously, the ground wire 492 and conductors 490 may be sheathed in an outer wrapping such as heatshrink, plastic of similar 502.

[0088] Referring to Figure 9C, there is depicted an exemplary exploded perspective view of the components of the exemplary joint depicted in Figure 9B.

[0089] As depicted, collar portions 530a, 530b and 530c, 530d are affixed so as to extend around and about the ends of the elongate metal tubes 498 using fasteners (such as screws, not shown) which are received in holes 497 in the tubes. Collar portions 530a, 530b, 530c, 530d are affixed to each other also using fasteners (not shown) which are inserted into recesses 532b, 532d. Each fastener extends through a short boss (not shown in view of angle), said short bosses extending from collar portions 530b, 530d. These short bosses are sized to engage about complementary bosses 534a, 534c which extend from the inside of the ends of the collar portions 530a, 530c respectively. As such, collar portions 530a, 530b, 530c and 530d are secured to each other. Further fasteners (not shown) can secure the collar portions and extend through holes 539b, 539d into holes 497 defined in the elongate metal tubes 498.

[0090] As depicted, the spanning member 500 comprises complementary portions 502a, 502b which are attached on either side of the collars as depicted.

[0091] Spanning member portion 502a is attached at its end to collar portions 530c, 530a by fasteners (e.g. screws) (not shown). The fasteners attach the spanning member to the collars via a boss 522 which extends from securing elements 520c, 520a. Advantageously pins 524a, 524c extend from the securing elements 520a, 520c through corresponding slots 504a, 504c formed in spanning member portion 502a. As the spanning member rotates relative to the tubes in the assembly process; the slots 504a, 504c constrain the extent of rotation of the elongate segment 524a, 524c with respect to the spanning member portion 502a.

[0092] Optionally, formations 538c and 538a on the collar portions 530a, 530c may be received in corresponding recesses 506a, 506c in spanning member portion 502a to help facilitate this rotation of the adjacent tubes 498 relative to the spanning member portion 502a.

[0093] Advantageously, the elongate elements of the support frame may be secured in fully extended position by fasteners (not shown) which are received in holes 536a,536c.

[0094] Spanning member portion 502b is advantageously configured to receive the conductors 490 and earth wire 492 under a cover 508. Similarly, the spanning member portion 502b may be secured to the corresponding collar portions 532b, 532d using fasteners (not shown) which engage securing elements 520b, 520d with the spanning member portion 502b, and collar portions 530b, 530d (which are mounted to tubes 498 ).

[0095] Holes 509b, 509d are defined on either side of the attachment of the spanning member portion with the collars for the passage of electrical conductors 490 and ground wire 492. Holes 550b, 550d are also defined in the collar portions 530b, 530d to similarly receive the conductors. It would be appreciated that the electrical conductors do not move very much despite the relative rotation of the elongate elements in which they pass.

[0096] Accordingly, the spanning member 500 defines a passageway through which the conductors pass which is inaccessible to the user; maintains the conductors to avoid rubbing / friction being imparted when moved; and permits rotation of the adjacent tubes 490.

[0097] Securing elements 520b, 520d also comprise pins (not shown) which extend into corresponding arcuate slots 504b, 504d of the spanning member portion 502b. The extremities of these slots define the extent of travel of the spanning member relative to the elongate elements to which it is attached.

[0098] Optionally formations 538b and 538d on the collar portions may be received in corresponding recesses 506b, 506d in the spanning member portion 502b to facilitate rotation of the collar portions spanning member portion relative to the collars.

[0099] It would be appreciated that the compact foldable clothes warmer of the present disclosure provides significant volume savings in the compact state. The significant volume savings mean that it may be manufactured and shipped to the distributor in substantially less volume than the prior art embodiments depicted in Figures 1A-1E.
