AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing parcel sorting installations face issues with unpredictable package behavior during transport, leading to potential damage and mechanical failure due to shocks and deformations between pushers and buckets, resulting in costly repairs and shutdowns.

Method used

A mechanical fuse is integrated into the shoe pushers of the feed conveyor, designed to break under excessive force, directing the failure to a replaceable part rather than the expensive internal mechanics, with features like an openwork body, fins for weakness points, and a sensor to detect breakage and stop the conveyor.

Benefits of technology

The solution effectively reduces package damage and prevents costly mechanical failures by allowing the pusher to break under stress, ensuring the internal mechanics remain intact and facilitating easy maintenance by automatically stopping the conveyor upon detection of breakage.

Abstract

The invention relates to a sorting installation (1) for parcels (2), comprising a sorting conveyor (3) having receptacles (4) that are each designed to convey and sort a parcel into an appropriate sorting outlet, and a supply conveyor (6) that is designed to convey the parcels in a particular conveying direction (D1) and to supply parcels to the receptacles of the sorting conveyor, the supply conveyor comprising push-shoe (10) pushers (9) that are designed to move in the particular conveying direction next to and synchronously with the receptacles of the sorting conveyor and to move transversely to the particular conveying direction so as to push each parcel into a receptacle of the sorting conveyor, the pusher according to the invention forming a mechanical fuse designed to break with the push-shoe beyond a certain pushing force on a parcel.
