Description

Drive beltTechnical Field

[0001] The present utility model relates to a drive belt, in particular a multi-wedge drive belt.Background Art

[0002] Annular drive belts, especially multi-wedge belts, are often used in motor vehicle accessory systems to transmit motive power. A structure of a drive belt comprises a belt back layer and profile layer, for example a multi-wedge layer, mainly formed of rubber, and a cord layer located between the belt back layer and profile layer. Accessory systems, such as a drive belt and belt wheel, are cooperatively used to transmit motive power.

[0003] When a drive belt of a conventional back rubber structure is used on village gravel roads, foreign matter readily enters a wheel groove of a belt wheel, with the result that a belt wedge shape deforms, and after a long time, the belt wedge shape tears, and thus the belt back tears, finally resulting in the belt rupturing, and entering and damaging another component of an accessory system.

[0004] In order to improve anti-tear performance of a belt back of a multi-wedge belt in a process of motive power transmission, a knitted fabric, such as dipped and scraped canvas, is generally added to a belt back face in the prior art, and thus anti-tear performance of the belt is ensured, however, the structural design of a product using canvas as the belt back has poor economic performance, a belt back friction coefficient is low, and the dipping and scraping process on canvas uses a large amount of volatile solvent, which is not environmentally friendly.

[0005] For this reason, the present utility model needs to propose a new technical solution to solve at least one of the many technical problems mentioned above.

[0006] Summary of the Utility Model

[0007] Based on the prior art, an object of the present utility model lies in: improving anti-tear performance of a belt back of a drive belt, while reducing costs.

[0008] To achieve the above technical objective, the present utility model proposes a drive belt, which sequentially comprises, from an outer peripheral face to an inner peripheral face, a rubber layer, a cord fabric layer, a buffer layer, a cord layer and a profile layer, the cord fabric layer being formed by interweaving warp yarn and weft yarn, wherein warp density is 150 threads / 10 centimeters to 210 threads / 10 centimeters, warp twist rate is 150 turns / meter to 700 turns / meter, and the thickness of the cord fabric layer is 0.20 mm to 0.40 mm.

[0009] The cord fabric is a machine-woven fabric of interwoven closely arranged thick warp yarn and sparsely arranged thin weft yarn. The warp yarn is used for bearing a load, and the material of the warp yarn may be cotton, viscose fiber, polyamide fiber, nylon, polypropylene fiber, aramid fiber, carbon fiber, PEN or a mixed material of the above materials. The weft yarn is used for fixing the position of the warp yarn in the process of treating the cord fabric; for example, in rubber application, calendering and sticking processing, the thinner weft yarn may prevent the warp yarn from becoming misaligned. Once the warp yarn is fixed in the rubber, the weft yarn no longer has an effect. The weft yarn is a stretchier material, such as a core spun yarn, a yarn core being nylon or polyester undrawn fiber, and an outer layer being cotton fiber.

[0010] The applicant, through a large amount of experiments and research, unintentionally discovered that using a cord fabric having a warp density of 150 to 210 threads / 10 centimeters and warp twist rate of 150 to 700 turns / meter, and the thickness of the cord fabric being 0.20 mm to 0.40 mm, and sticking or embedding a rubber layer and buffer layer on a top surface and a bottom surface of the cord fabric on two sides thereof, to form a belt back layer in the drive belt, can effectively improve anti-tear performance of the belt back of the drive belt, while improving a transmission friction coefficient of the back face, and reducing belt costs.

[0011] Preferably, thermal shrinkage of the warp yarn is 1.9%to 4.3%, as measured  under conditions of 175℃, 500 mN and 3 min, and a single thread of the warp yarn has a tensile strength of ≧ 35 N and an elongation at break of 16%to 26%. Thus, good deformation resistance and breakage resistance are achieved.

[0012] Also preferably, elongation under constant load of the warp yarn is 5.5 to 15.5%, and adhesive force at 20℃ ≧ 40 N / 5 mm.

[0013] Preferably, the warp yarn is made of nylon 66.

[0014] Preferably, weft density is 6 threads / 10 centimeters to 10 threads / 10 centimeters.

[0015] Preferably, the weft yarn is a core spun yarn, a yarn core being made of nylon 66 and an outer layer being cotton fiber.

[0016] When yarn cores of the warp yarn and weft yarn of the cord fabric are both made of nylon 66, a belt back of a drive belt obtained has especially good anti-tear performance, and has good economic benefits.

[0017] Also preferably, the warp yarn and weft yarn are dipped before being interwoven into cord fabric, and the amount of applied adhesive of the formed cord fabric is 1.5 to 10.5%.

[0018] Preferably, the buffer layer is made from rubber, the cord fabric layer and the cord layer are embedded in the buffer layer respectively on two sides. The cord layer is composed of multiple cords which extend in a longitudinal direction of the drive belt and are spaced apart from each other, and the cords may be polyester, nylon, aramid fiber, glass fiber, carbon fiber or a mixed material of the above materials.

[0019] Preferably, the rubber layer is adhered to the cord fabric layer by means of laminating.

[0020] Preferably, the buffer layer is adhered to the cord fabric layer by means of laminating or skimming.

[0021] Here, the rubber material of the rubber layer and the buffer layer may be the same or may be different. The rubber material may be chosen from natural rubber (NR) , ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, chloroprene rubber (CR) , hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) , nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) , cis-polybutadiene rubber (BR) , styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) , etc. The rubber layer and buffer layer may be adhered to the top side and the bottom side of cord fabric, respectively, by means of double-sided laminating, or may be adhered to top and bottom sides of the cord fabric by means of skimming on one side and laminating on one side. Said two means, with respect to dipping and scraping in a conventional canvas processing process, greatly reduce an amount of solvent used, and are thus more environmentally friendly.

[0022] Preferably, the profile layer is made of rubber, and the surface thereof is provided with at least 3 wedge shapes extending in the longitudinal direction of the drive belt. The wedge shapes may be designed in accordance with standards GBT16588 and GB13552, for example using PH, PJ, PK, PL and PM wedge shapes.

[0023] Preferably, a PK wedge shape is used for the wedge shape, for example, for motor vehicle accessory system applications, wherein the wedge height is at least 1.6 mm and at most 3.0 mm, and the number of wedge shapes is preferably 3 -15. Regarding this, the total thickness of the rubber layer, cord fabric layer and buffer layer is 0.8 mm to 1.4 mm.

[0024] Depending on the belt application scenario, short fibers, such as cotton fibers, nylon short fibers, aramid short fibers, etc., may be added to the rubber of the rubber layer, buffer layer and / or profile layer, to enhance the transverse rigidity of the belt.

[0025] Preferably, a fiber covering layer is stuck to a surface of the profile layer, the fiber covering layer being a fabric layer, preferably a knitted fabric layer, or a cotton fiber layer formed of cotton fibers of length 0.5 mm -3.0 mm. Having short cotton fibers or fabric attached to the surface of the profile layer helps to  improve the friction coefficient of the belt surface; this surface contacts the driving and driven belt wheels in the process of motive power transmission, transmitting the load torque of the accessory system, and thus helps to resist slippage between the belt and the belt wheels.

[0026] Advantages of the present utility model lie in: improving anti-tear performance of a back part of a belt, preventing early failure from tearing of a back face of the belt caused when the belt is used on a bad gravel road; improving a transmission friction coefficient of the back face of the belt, without damaging an accessory system; reducing belt costs; and reducing volatile solvent use, which is more green and environmentally friendly.Brief Description of the Drawings

[0037] To enable those skilled in the art to better understand the technical solution of  the present utility model, the technical solution of the present utility model is described clearly and completely below in conjunction with embodiments and comparative examples. Obviously, the embodiments described are some, not all, of the embodiments of the present utility model. All other embodiments obtained by those skilled in the art based on the embodiments in the present utility model without creative effort shall fall within the scope of protection of the present utility model.

[0038] Figs. 1 and 2 respectively show the same embodiment of the drive belt structure of the present utility model in a transverse cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the drive belt and in a longitudinal cross section parallel to the longitudinal direction of the drive belt. Said drive belt is provided with a belt back layer at an outer periphery, a profile layer 15 at an inner periphery, and a cord layer 13 located between the two. The belt back layer is composed of a rubber layer 11 of a back face, a buffer layer 14 for bonding the cord layer 13 and also made of rubber, and a cord fabric layer 12 located between the rubber layer and the buffer layer. The cord layer 13 is composed of multiple cords which extend in the longitudinal direction of the drive belt and are spaced apart from each other, and is enclosed in the rubber of the buffer layer 14.

[0039] The drive belt shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is an annular multi-wedge belt. The inner periphery of the profile layer 15 is provided with 6 wedge-shaped profiles which extend in the longitudinal direction of the drive belt, and these wedge shapes are arranged side by side in the width direction of the belt. The wedge shape is a PK wedge shape designed in accordance with standard GBT16588 / GB13552. In some embodiments, the drive belt may have another number of wedge shapes as required. A fiber covering layer 16 is further stuck to a surface of the profile layer 15, and is composed of short cotton fibers with lengths of 0.5 mm to 3 mm. In some embodiments, the fiber covering layer also may be composed of a polyester-cotton mixed-spun canvas.

[0040] The cord fabric layer 12 is formed by interweaving warp yarn and weft yarn, wherein the warp yarn is made of nylon 66, and the weft yarn is a core spun yarn comprising a yarn core, made of nylon 66, and a cotton fiber outer layer.

[0041] The rubber layer 11 and buffer layer 14 are adhered to the top side and the bottom side of cord fabric by means of double-sided laminating, wherein the buffer layer 14 is adhered to the cord layer 13, with good adhesion performance, and the rubber layer 11 acts as a belt back face, contacts a tensioner wheel or idler wheel in a pulley system, and has good bending, wear resistance and aging resistance performances. Alternatively, the rubber layer 11 is adhered to an outer side of the cord fabric by means of laminating, to form a wear resistant belt back face, and the buffer layer 14 is adhered to an inner side of the cord fabric by means of skimming, and has good calendering flow performance. Laminating and skimming may be implemented using a calender or rubber sheet sticking device. Rubber compound, in a skimming process and subsequent drive belt vulcanization process, enters the cord fabric layer and cord layer and thus tightly adheres to same.

[0042] Rubber compound of the rubber layer 11 and buffer layer 14 may be the same according to application scenarios, for example both being EPDM; or may be different, for example two types of EPDM which are mixed with different formulas. In some embodiments, according to belt application scenarios, short fibers may be added to the rubber in one, two or all three of the rubber layer 11, buffer layer 14 and profile layer 15.

[0043] According to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a belt back layer structure is adjusted and a drive belt of examples 1 to 5 is made; see Table 1. In addition, a drive belt of comparative examples 1 to 8 is produced, and a belt back layer structure or parameters thereof are different to the embodiment of the present utility model mentioned above; see Table 2.

[0044] Table 1: examples 1 to 5

[0045] Remarks: EPDM1 and EPDM2 are different types of EPDM rubber compound  obtained by mixing different rubber formulas.

[0046] Table 2: Comparative examples 1 to 8

[0047] Remarks: EPDM1 and EPDM2 are different types of EPDM rubber compound obtained by mixing different rubber formulas. EPDM3 is EPDM rubber compound containing fibers, and acts as belt back rubber compound. EPDM4 is an EPDM rubber obtained by mixing with another rubber formula, and acts as buffer layer rubber compound.

[0048] The following properties of the drive belts obtained by examples 1 to 5 and comparative examples 1 to 8 have been tested.

[0049] - Belt back anti-tear performance: the belt being mounted on a stand of a 5-wheel arrangement, wherein the rotation speed of a driving wheel is 5000 rpm / min, the torque is 6 Nm, and hub load is 500 N. A belt back tearing situation of the belt running on the stand is tested every 4 hours; if a belt back circumferential tear length > 50%of the total length then the judgment is failure; moreover, there are no abnormalities such as belt breaking, wedge loss and wedge face cracking. Test results are calculated on an hourly basis, and the longer the duration means the better the anti-tear performance.

[0050] - Belt back wear resistance: performed according to SAE J2432-2015 standard 7.0.

[0051] - Stand life: simulating operating life of a belt in an automobile accessory system, testing performed according to SAE J2432-2015 standard 3.0, the test temperature being 130±5℃. Test results are calculated on an hourly basis, and the longer the duration means the better the dynamic high-temperature durability.

[0052] - At the same time, the economic performance of the belt is assessed, an excessively high cost being not up to standard.

[0053] All the test results are listed in Table 3.

[0054] Table 3: Test results

[0055] According to the results of Table 3, it can be seen that the drive belts obtained according to examples 1 to 5 simultaneously have good belt back anti-tear performance and belt back wear resistance, and the dynamic high-temperature durability and belt economic performance are both up to standard.

[0056] In the drive belt obtained according to comparative example 1, the cord fabric thickness is too thin and the warp twist rate is too high, the warp yarn strength is insufficient, and the belt back anti-tear performance is poorer. In the drive belt obtained according to comparative example 2, the cord fabric thickness is too thick and the warp twist rate is too low, and bending performance of the belt back is poor, with the result that the dynamic high-temperature durability is poorer. In the drive belt obtained according to comparative example 3, thermal shrinkage of the warp yarn is too high, with the result that the belt easily  deforms, thus affecting the belt back anti-tear performance and dynamic high-temperature durability. The drive belts obtained according to comparative examples 4 and 5 have poor anti-tear performance since the belt back is a back rubber structure. The belt back of the drive belts obtained according to comparative examples 6 and 7 is a canvas structure, and in a scenario with no buffer rubber (comparative example 6) , none of the economic performance, belt back anti-tear performance, belt back wear resistance and dynamic high-temperature durability is up to standard; in a scenario in which buffer rubber is added (comparative example 7) , although belt back anti-tear performance and wear resistance, and dynamic high-temperature durability are enhanced, the resulting belt cost of the canvas structure is still relatively high. The belt back of the drive belt obtained according to comparative example 8 is a non-woven fabric structure, and the belt back anti-tear performance is poorer.
