Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a device for installing a roof window in a roof structure with an insulating frame made of insulating material, comprising a base frame and an adapter frame mounted on the base frame in a joining direction.
[0002] When installing roof windows in a roof structure, it is necessary to seal and insulate the transition between the roof window and the surrounding roof structure to create a watertight seal. Insulation frames are known from DE20203854U1, which consist of several frame sections glued together. The individual frame sections have different heights and widths, allowing them to be adapted to the specific roof structure. The insulation frame is selected according to the roof and counter batten height and screwed to the intended roof window before installation on the roof structure. A disadvantage of this system is that the individual frame sections must be precisely positioned on top of each other when gluing and held in this position while the adhesive cures. Furthermore, the use of adhesive results in a delay in the installation process if the insulation frame needs to be adjusted to the specific conditions of the roof structure during installation.
[0003] The invention is therefore based on the objective of providing a device for installing a roof window in a roof structure, which can be adapted to the conditions of a roof structure in a convenient and time-saving manner without impairing the insulation and sealing properties.
[0004] The invention solves the problem by providing that the contact surfaces of the base frame and adapter frame comprise a stop section and a sealing section that is at least partially circumferential and inclined relative to the stop section.
[0005] Due to the mutually inclined stop and sealing sections, not only can the adapter frame be easily aligned according to a predetermined target position, but an extended migration path with increased flow resistance is also created along the interface surfaces, so that sufficient insulation and sealing effect can be achieved even without adhesive bonding. While the stop section, preferably running transversely to the joining direction, creates a positive fit between the base and adapter frames in the joining direction, the sealing section, inclined towards the stop sections, forms a positive fit transversely to the joining direction. This allows the base frame and adapter frame to be assembled more quickly and in a manner readily apparent to the installer, enabling convenient adaptation of the device to the specific conditions of a roof structure without the need for manual repositioning during the gluing process and without compromising the insulation and sealing properties. To further facilitate alignment, the sealing section can have at least two sealing surfaces that fix the adapter frame relative to the base frame transversely to the joining direction in at least two different spatial directions. For this purpose, each sealing surface can form a stop in one of these spatial directions. In a preferred embodiment, at least four, preferably eight, sealing surfaces are provided, arranged in pairs opposite each other with respect to a spatial axis extending transversely to the joining direction.
[0006] To enable space-saving transport to the installation site, the adapter frame and / or the base frame can include several frame struts perpendicular to the joining direction, namely adapter frame struts or base frame struts. This can be particularly advantageous when the geometry of the roof structure and the windows is unknown and the required length, width, and height of the insulation frame can only be determined during installation. Preferably, the adapter frame struts and / or the base frame struts are mitered.
[0007] To further facilitate on-site assembly, particularly in the case of individual frame struts, it is advantageous for the frame struts to have snap-fit connections at their mutual end sections. Such snap-fit connections can be provided, in particular, at the end sections of adjacent base frame or adapter frame struts, wherein the snap-fit connections comprise at least two interlocking locking elements, each connected to one of the adjacent frame struts. The frame struts can have receptacles, in particular milled recesses, at their mutual end sections for inserting the locking elements. These receptacles are, in particular, blind holes in the core of the respective frame strut.
[0008] To further enhance the insulating and sealing effect of a device according to the invention, it is proposed that the sealing section run transversely to the stop section. This results in increased flow resistance with respect to the migration path for liquids and gases, without negatively affecting the joining behavior due to resulting undercuts. This means that the sealing surfaces of the sealing section are also oriented transversely to the stop surfaces of the stop section, with the sealing surfaces thus running in the joining direction and the stop surfaces perpendicular to the joining direction.
[0009] A particularly stable connection with advantageous sealing and insulating properties can be achieved between the base frame and the adapter frame when the mating surfaces of the base frame and adapter frame form a tongue-and-groove joint. The groove base or the end face of the tongue forms the stop surfaces of the stop section, while the tongue and groove walls form the sealing surfaces of the sealing section. This results in at least four, and in particular at least eight, sealing surfaces, which are arranged in pairs opposite each other with respect to a spatial axis running transversely to the joining direction. The tongue-and-groove joint can be designed such that not only a positive fit but also a frictional fit is achieved between the tongue and groove, allowing the adapter frame to be fixed to the base frame not only transversely to the joining direction but also in the joining direction.
[0010] To ensure high thermal and chemical resistance and low water absorption, the insulation frame can be made, at least in sections, from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Preferably, the PET is derived from recycled materials and is foamed, so that the insulation frame not only has high thermal and chemical resistance, but is also lightweight and sustainable.
[0011] For convenient alignment of the roof windows within the insulation frame, the adapter frame may be designed to have an adjustment recess. A window inserted into the adapter frame can thus be precisely aligned before being permanently attached to the insulation frame by engaging the window's mounting tabs in the adjustment recesses and moving them within these recesses for fine-tuning.
[0012] The invention also relates to a system for installing a roof window in a roof structure with a device according to the invention, wherein the system comprises several adapter frames having different heights in the joining direction. Such a system enables the installer to select the appropriate adapter frame for the respective roof structure from several available adapter frames of different heights.
[0013] The invention further relates to a method for installing an insulation frame in a roof structure, wherein a base frame of the insulation frame is first attached to the roof structure, after which an adapter frame selected from a series of adapter frames with differing heights in the joining direction is placed onto the base frame. The base frame can be assembled from individual frame members, namely base frame members, before being attached to the roof structure. The base frame members can be connected using snap-fit connections, which is particularly time-saving and convenient. The selected adapter frame can be placed onto the base frame, and the adapter frame can either be formed in one piece or can also comprise several frame members, namely adapter frame members, which can likewise be connected to each other via plug-in or snap-fit connections.
